This is no ordinary Saturday. This is the weekend of World Bee Day, our beloveds. So let us give thanks.

Bees and other pollinators, such as butterflies, bats and hummingbirds, are increasingly under threat from human activities.
Pollination is, however, a fundamental process for the survival of our ecosystems. Nearly 90% of the world’s wild flowering plant species depend, entirely, or at least in part, on animal pollination, along with more than 75% of the world’s food crops and 35% of global agricultural land. Not only do pollinators contribute directly to food security, but they are key to conserving biodiversity.
To raise awareness of the importance of pollinators, the threats they face and their contribution to sustainable development, the UN designated 20 May as World Bee Day.
The goal is to strengthen measures aimed at protecting bees and other pollinators, which would significantly contribute to solving problems related to the global food supply and eliminate hunger in developing countries.
We all depend on pollinators and it is, therefore, crucial to monitor their decline and halt the loss of biodiversity.

Now is the time to re-think how we relate to nature and pollinators and take action to support them and the livelihoods they support.
We depend on bees and other pollinators for our existence. They play a vital role in agriculture and global ecosystems by maintaining our food supply and contributing to biodiversity and other ecosystem services.
The vast majority of pollinators are wild, including over 20 000 species of bees and many types of butterflies, birds, bats and other insects. However, in many areas, bees, pollinators, and many other insects are declining in abundance and diversity. Most of these drivers are human-induced.
Bees are a vital part of our ecosystem and today is a great opportunity to raise awareness of the essential role bees and other pollinators play in keeping people and the planet healthy.

In honor of #WorldBeeDay 2023, Guerlain Bee Ambassador Angelina Jolie co-hosted a special #BeeSchool workshop at the local community school in Santa Clara located in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico home to the endangered Melipona beechei bee.
A central part of the #GuerlainForBees Conservation Programme, the Bee School network invites primary school children around the world to attend an in-depth workshop about the importance of bees, while raising awareness on how we can act to protect their future.
As one of the main pollinators of the Mayan Forest ecosystem, this tiny, stingless bee is sacred to Mayan communities, who have used its honey and wax for food, ceremonial and medicinal purposes for centuries. Guerlain is proud to help Mexican nonprofit La Fundacion Selva Maya with support from Maroma & Belmond in their efforts to repopulate this critically endangered species, whose numbers have fallen by 90% in recent years.
