I’ve spent way too much time trying to find the perfect character workbook. Something that actually goes deep, asks the right questions, and helps me figure out who my characters really are. But nothing ever fully hit the mark… so I made my own.
This is just one page out of a whole bunch. The workbook covers 15 main and side characters, dives into all the juicy stuff like personality, backstory, habits, looks, and even includes a big list of good & bad traits to mix things up.
If you’re a writer and love building characters as much as I do, feel free to check it out. Maybe it’ll be the one you’ve been looking for too.

The Writer's Workbook:
Writing
Additional Advice
Things to keep in mind while actually writing:
The 1st Draft:
A very common mistake many people (me included) fell for was not finishing the first draft immediately. And I mean by that stopping in the middle and going back to change or edit things.
It's always better to continue through the first draft until the end, keep notes of what to change or revise later then leave it for the second draft. It's always easier to build off an existing text later on.
2. Drafts
On the other hand, what other people fall for is the lack of revision. The first draft is a start, but it's not everything. Books go through rounds after rounds of editing and reviewing before you get tired enough to just publish it, since in might never be perfection. But it will be something.
Don't rush it.
3. Keeping up with ideas:
Having an outline or skeleton to the plot that you can follow is extremely useful. If you've used the snowflake method then you might reach a point from which each sentence can be made into a plot point, then writing each one out will be much easier.
Similarly, it's good to keep tables and/or written concepts of characters/world to follow. There have been multiple instances of writers accidentally changing something about a character halfway through. Having a database of these things can help avoid that.

I think someone asked this before on your old blog but how did you figure out you were system? Like was it a slow or instant realization?
it took about a day to figure it out (late night realization) but it took longer than it took us to learn how to read and write lmao
so we've had kennith for longer than we realized we've had him for, he's always been a character we were very attached to. realized it after i (yuki) had a breakdown over a fanfic that included him and then realized "shit i might be a kennith kin"
a few hours later, kennith was setting up our pluralkit and said, and i quote, "i'm not gonna use this outside of our server because i don't want people thinkin' i'm a system" (spoiler alert: it was wrong)
either that night or the next morning we researched osdd and did and we aligned a lot with the symptoms, and it should've been more obvious because our "kins" had completely different personalities and identities. everything just kinda clicked since then
#࿄ ring ring! ࿄#fun fact we learned how to read and write instantly. it just kinda poofed and we had an urge to grab paper and a pencil and show our mother#that we could write “oven”#it was such a flex to us that we could do our kindergarten workbook by ourselves because we could read what the problem was

that phantom of the opera ask has changed everything for me. was that really my introduction to yandere content..? can you think of any other yandere characters in media because wow i am connecting dots about myself now
Aaaa hmmmm,, the timeline is a tad foggy for myself. I was 15 when I learned about Phantom of the Opera, but during that time I was already writing yandere stories. I need to remember what the pipeline was because there had to be something that awakened the interest.......... maybe it was an anime..... I used to read and write a lot of yandere oc when I was 15, so perhaps that was the beginning???
I think Beauty and the Beast opened my eyes to captivity and Stockholm syndrome in yandere fiction. Actually, there are a lot things from the Disney films that have plenty of inspiration for yandere tropes. Which makes a lot of sense now that I'm here in the present and twst is existing hehe. <3 thank you to Ursula for existing. If not for you, there would be no Azul. orz
I had a very sheltered upbringing that was defined by academics, and so I didn't have many opportunities to look into media with darker plots or yandere characters. T^T I wish I could think of characters that may have been my awakening, but every time I think about it my brain clouds over.
This is me trying to connect the dots LOL:
#chit chat#all those summers sitting indoors and filling out practice workbooks... T_T practicing my writing and learning the core subjects#riddle i understand your struggle 🤝

one of the issues with minority languages (x2) is we have no marketing budgets and everything we do have tends to be done by some guy in his five minutes of free time between actual payed careers so stuff looks very graphic design is my passion. Another issue is needing to stick at least two languages on all the flyers and stuff looking crowded idk stuff I want to play with x2 with the typography
#And it’s a building problem because it’s not visually appealing or useful to learners and children so they always associate the writing#System with a dry textbook page#One of my dreams is to create a workbook/app program for the Yiddish aleph beys#Once you learn the aleph-beys if you speak a Germanic language and come from a Yiddish background (the maj of#Yiddish learners) you can jump right into reading original texts. Until then - scary

*Shaping a Something
I
I can only inhale and exhale faster than I can see,
Trying to bite and swallow the air escaping all around me.
II
The air whooshes all become colors of ease -
Purple as synergy,
Green like imagery,
Blue evolving periphery.
Clicking and snapping my mind back into place,
The nib of its honed end
Smoothly settling me into a chamber of noise
Like heels on a spiraling staircase.
III
And I catch the air - I do!
The condensation weighs it down falling into my core
Bursting at the seams.

The Writer's Workbook:
Writing
4.3 The Snowflake Method
This method is particularly good if you need to expand on your idea or need more help to outline or plot.
The snowflake method depends on branching out a single idea to make it wider and broader. You can get from a single idea to a fairly detailed outline of the story.
Explain your plot in one sentence.
Develop the sentence into a paragraph that includes the major points.
Expand on each sentence and make it a paragraph.
This can go on as much as you need. Additionally, you can use the same method for characters, starting with a paragraph to multiple one.
Alternatively, you can try writing it in bullet points or numbered events make understanding it easier.

a friend who'd wait :)
#im posting this very late because i was sort of weary of how it came out and ended up messing w it until it was like 4am oops.#and i have plans tmrw so... oh well! i did my best and ill put it out while i can!#and i tried to make the scene match barnard's colors lol#finn's ocs#finn's art#i know i said id do more sillay stuff with the simpler screentone only style but i had a couple more of these in me#and this is the first piece im making thats like an actual part of the story too rather than just setting stuff for fun#i wanna write something to go with it too but for now ill just sort of briefly explain the context in the tags here:#barnard has a pretty bad case of OCD and his compulsions have made it difficult to make friends in the past#he was never outright bullied or anything but people just didnt really have the patience to deal with it#he has compulsions that include stuff like walking through doors until it feels right and needing things to be perfectly aligned#which in group settings has lead to people having to wait for him to finish his rituals and join them#they might find it tolerable at first but eventually they grow impatient and hes just... not invited to stuff anymore#but juno is a newer member of the guild who ends up frequenting the same library. hes also kinda a little weird#and they dont become fast friends or anything but just sort of naturally spend time in the same place#though they never plan meetups they eventually fall into a routine. around the same time theyd just both be at the library#and read next to each other. and maybe talk a bit. and eventually they end up walking back to the guildhall together#since theyre going to the same place after all. and juno always waits for barnard outside the door#eventually barnard asks if this bothers him. juno kinda just tells him 'of course it does' without any malice or anything. just a statement#barnard is surprised and apologizes and juno says not to. but the next day juno doesnt show up at the usual time.#barnard assumes hes committed somekinda more by bringing it up. he ends up staying there late reading to get his mind off it & not ruminate#but when he leaves juno is in fact still waiting for him down the hall (see pic) having collected a bunch of books literally abt ocd#he fell asleep bc barnard stayed later than expected. and hes an eepy guy generally. and also one very bad at expressing himself#but now barnard gets that juno's 'of course it [bothers me]' had the implication of 'but its worth it' which no friend has previously done.#and from the interaction juno was also able to understand that this isn't something barnard just does for the hell of it so. he studies.#and checks a bunch of stuff out because he thinks it could help his friend too (theres ocd workbooks and such- i remember working w them)#and thats the point where they became more ''friends'' than ''pleasant library acquaintances''#from there on they also do get into juno's problems. whole other bag of worms. but this specific scene is more about bernard from his pov#sorry about when i said briefly explain. i lied </3#but compared to the whole sequence im picturing its brief so shhh
