Lan Wangji was nervous. He shouldn't be, but he was.
After spending summer in Japan with his brother, his brother's best friend and said friend's younger brother, who's also his classmate (also known as Nie Huaisang), today was his first date with his year long boyfriend Wei Ying since he was back (two days ago).
They decided to go out for boba and a walk on the park before going to the Lans townhouse so Wei Ying could get his presents and souvenirs. Lan Qiren already asked for a spicy plate for the boy to eat at dinner, even if the teenagers haven't said anything about it. His uncle just know them well enough.
Anyway, Lan Wangji wasn't nervous because of the date itself, he knows how to make Wei Ying happy and a happy Wei Ying makes him the happiest. No, he was nervous about the giant bunny plush he won on gacha a few weeks ago.
(he spent over an hour and countless coins on it. Nie Huaisang was highly amused watching and filming him getting a meltdown every time it fell)
As usual, their date was excellent and Wei Ying smiled the whole time, not letting go of his hand or arm. He pouted and whined a lot, about missing him, about his jealousy (even though he traveled with his parents to the beach somewhere in Thailand, away from humid and hot gigantic city), and Lan Wangji make sure to hug and kiss him a lot to make up for it.
Then they went back to Lan Wangji's house and he started feeling his heart beating faster.
Because of house rules, they couldn't go to Lan Wangji's room by themselves, so Wei Ying sat on the living room floor to play with his boyfriend's pet bunnies and waited for him to come back with his presents.
"Wei Ying." Lan Wangji called.
"Lan Zhan!"
The boy looked up with a bright smile and Lan Wangji could feel the love arrow pierce his heart once again. He had to pause for a moment before kneeling down.
"For you."
"Yay!" Wei Ying cheered, taking the paper bag "Should I open now or wait until I get home?"
"Here." Lan Wangji nodded, glad his boyfriend didn't realized he hid the big plushie beside the couch.
Wei Ying got excited with each item, even the ones for his parents and little sister. Although he did started complaining it was too much halfway through. Wei Ying got especially happy when he found the photo strips from the booth Nie Huaisang made him go in Harajuku.
"Thank you so much, Lan Zhan." he said when finished, putting everything inside the bag again.
"...There's one more." Lan Wangji confessed, accepting his hug.
"One more?" Wei Ying looked at him curiously "Why it wasn't with the others?"
"Ah..."
Lan Wangji pushed him softly and stretched backwards to get the plushie.
"I won a bunny plush for you." he said, feeling his ears warming up.
"A bunny plush?!" Wei Ying's eyes widened, visibly excited "I love plushies!"
"I know." Lan Wangji huffed amusedly.
Then, he presented his acquisition.
But instead of squealing with mirth, Wei Ying bit down his lip.
"A bunny plush, Lan Zhan?"
"Yes..."
Wei Ying laughed loudly, falling down to the ground with tears in his eyes and Lan Wangji looked down at the plushie in his hands. It was a big headed bunny with big floppy ears, blue eyes and wearing a cute aviation uniform.
What's wrong with it? Lan Wangji thought it was cute. Very, very cute. He even thought about getting one for himself, but the stress to get one was already too much for him.
"Lan Zhan!" Wei Ying exclaimed, trying to stop laughing "That's not a bunny! It's cinnamon roll!"
"...Cinnamon roll?"
"You don't know?" Wei Ying stopped laughing to stare at him "He's a Sanrio character, you know. Hello Kitty...?"
"I know Hello Kitty." he paused "Is this not a bunny?"
"Noooo! It's a dog!" Wei Ying laughed again, taking his phone and typing something fast "Look."
A search with the character name was made and it shown: Cinnamoroll, is a white puppy with chubby cheeks and long ears, blue eyes, pink cheeks, and a tail that resembles a cinnamon roll.
"A puppy." he looked at the plushie again in confusion. How is this a puppy?!
"Yeah." Wei Ying chuckled "And it's mine! Don't even think about taking it back just because it's not a bunny!" he mock threatened.
Silently, still confused, he gave the Cinnamonroll to his boyfriend, watching him cuddling the not bunny tightly.
Well. At least Wei Ying is happy.
He can't wait for lunch tomorrow with Wei Ying's parents.

I'm thinking about least-carpet's Venn diagram of whether JC ships are about WWX and specifically about mingcheng, and I'm thinking that yes it is about WWX but it's also about NieYao, and I think it could be pretty fun projecting times actually!
So you're a sect leader and you gave preferential treatment to a SIC you trusted really really really a lot and who broke your heart and whom you totally failed to keep in line even after he'd proven how untrustworthy he was. How angry at yourself are you. How angry at someone who made similar yet not identical mistakes as you, and who has the moral backbone of a chocolate éclair.
could be fun hatesex and self-hatesex about JGY and WWX. could turn into less than hatesex after JC is hailed as the hero who saved the jianghu from WWX. could end with JC breaking up because he can't deal with NMJ looking at him less like he's trash because he thinks JC killed WWX.

I find the sibling dynamics in the untamed genuinely fascinating because like jiang cheng has all the flaws of a youngest sibling but he ALSO has to fulfill the roles and responsibilities of an oldest sibling (his family’s heir and leader of his clan) which results in a man who sucks so bad and fails so much 🥰 i love him

Reminder that canon Jiang Cheng is:
- Self-sacrificing. There have been numerous examples in the book where JC is willing to lay down his life for his family and sect without a second thought. Charging at Wen Chao and Wen Zhuliu in the turtle cave. Stepping in front of his mother to protect her from the core melter hand. Distracting the Wen before they discovered WWX. Offering himself as a hostage in return for JL in the Guanyin Temple incident, etc.
- Fiercely protective of his family. The above bullet point elaborates on this part well. But I would also like to add that he is extremely protective of JL. He follows him on nighthunts and is the first person JL calls for whenever he is in trouble. The moment JL sends out a flare, JC is instantly in there, dropping everything for him.
- He allows JL to be a child. Despite the historic context and the stiff upper lip attitudes of that time period, JC allows JL to be a child still. He is spoilt rotten and never knew the same horrors those of his previous generation had to endure. JC does all he can to keep him safe from that to prevent similar incidents from happening again. He also allows JL to healthily express his emotions and never once scolds him for crying. The moment he sees him upset, he's in there soothing him, ready to throw hands with whoever hurt him.
- He doesn't use corporal punishment methods on JL despite it being the norm of that society. JL explains this to WWX who was shocked to discover that JC doesn't punish JL, despite his threats. JL is horrified by the notion and is very comfortable and secure around his uncle. Secure enough to give him sass even, something JC would never dreamed of doing to his elders.
- He is an excellent and attentive leader. He built his sect from the ground up and recruited people on his own all whilst he was still a teenager, still recovering from trauma and torture. He brought his sect back from the brink of annihilation and built it back up as a major sect on very minimal experience with little next to no guidance.
- He's politically savvy. From a young age, he was always socially aware of everything, valuing the safety of his sect and family above everything else. He correctly predicted WWX's downfall and tried so much to warn him and save him from it. Powerless in that moment, he chose his sect over WWX in fear of them being annihilated a second time should he side with him. WWX understood and respected this, so defected of his own accord.
- He still believed in WWX and held onto hope for him, even when things were looking bleak. Despite WWX siding with the Wen, the sect that almost annilihated his own, JC allowed WWX to go with them and remained friends up until WWX inadvertently got JZX and JYL killed. He still allowed WWX to see his sister and even name his nephew. They visited each other in secret regularly despite the risks of being caught, and JC tried to defend him even in the face of the three most strongest sects. He wasn't successful, but he tried.
- He is more reasonable and level-headed than the rumours lead you to believe. We see this when the prostitute comes to testify about JGY. He calmly considers her word and everything she has to say. Not once was he rude or snappy with her. He also remembers his etiquette and addresses elders with manners and respect. He may at times be quick to anger, but he is also quick to calm himself down and conduct himself properly as we see in his first scene where he lets "MXY" go, despite being a practicing demonic cultivator.
- He let's WWX go in the end. The moment he learns the truth about everything and that WWX wasn't entirely guilty for everything everyone accused him of, JC drops all feelings of aminosoty towards him. He doesn't blame him, nor does he actively pursue him anymore and demand he answers for his "crimes." JC got all the answers he wanted from him and instead of holding on to grudges and resentment, he let WWX go to be happy with LWJ, despite clearly wanting him to come back to Lotus Pier. He understands and respects that WWX is ready to move on and start a new life with LWJ. It hurts him, but he respects that decision.
There are many more positive traits I could discuss here, but I'll be here all day if I did.
JC is a nuanced character with a lot of flaws, but he also has a lot of positives that make his character realistic and relatable but also very likeable. He is a traumatised man with a troubled past, but he never allowed it to truly bring him down. He persevered, built up his sect, and raised a nephew with a pure heart. I think it's safe to say that despite his problems and despite everything he has gone through, JC is a survivor with a strong heart. He has a lot of admirable traits that you mustn't ignore or deny if you truly wish to enjoy and appreciate his character.

Hi! I would love to read a JC and WWX post and how it is diff from what you’ve seen in western media!
I'd already started writing a JC post, so I wrapped that in to answer your question.
I follow a few JC fans so I see the backlash to the haters more than I see any haters, but apparently there’s some question in some people’s mind about whether Jiang Cheng loves Wei Wuxian, and I find that a little silly. That said, I think that to understand MDZS’s JC at all, you cannot just read the surface, so if you’re not thinking about him as a person or giving him any consideration beyond what other characters say and think of him, you’re not doing him justice. You’re also not going to see that he loves WWX and also loves several other people quite deeply, because a) JC's never going to be affectionate in his dialogue, b) JC's not going to even be affectionate in his body language or minor actions, and c) WWX, the main viewpoint character, is never once going to think about whether JC likes him or loves him.
Lots of posts have outlined better than I will how deeply loves not only WWX, but also his family, in particular JL. The short version is: JC’s his major flaws are all related to him loving his parents and getting shown very little affection in return—none at all from his father and only some in a backhanded way from his mother, usually in comparison to WWX.
As for Jin Ling, JC threatens him all the time, and even shoves him around a bit, but Jin Ling obviously adores JC and feels adored. JC is the one Jin Ling goes to when he's crying; JC is also the one who leaps to JL's side when JL is hurt. JL knows he's in trouble with JC when JL does something unsafe, but JL knows that his own safety is the most important thing in JC's life. Tellingly, JL rarely takes any of JC's threats seriously, and even tells other people said threats are bogus.
Then there’s WWX. Even while JC is berating WWX endlessly for making their clan look bad, he is literally carrying around WWX on his back. He is protecting WWX with everything he has. He sacrifices himself to the Wens to WWX won't get caught. After their falling out, after WWX lied to him for years and got their sister killed, JC still can't even stop himself from protecting WWX when WWX might get hurt by JGY's guqin string.
The guy is willing to throw himself on the fire for anyone he loves. Just heaven forbid he express any of it. But because he does not express love through speech, Wei Wuxian (who I will point out is a talker) doesn't understand this about Jiang Cheng—and this is shown to be a consistent flaw that WWX has. He also does not understand that LWJ is in love with him, despite LWJ defying all of society to follow him around and lift him onto donkeys whenever WWX gets droopy.
But I'd add the pretty much no one, other than Jin Ling, understands this about Jiang Cheng. If the cultivation world had understood JC, they would not have believed that JC and WWX had actually had a falling out. Part of the reason people don't know him is the same reason JC has such a terrible time with everything—WWX steals everyone's attention, praise, and fear wherever they go. No one is really looking at JC to admire his devotion or his loyalty, because WWX is there, doing it better than him, always. Imagine LWJ+WWX hadn’t defeated the Tortoise of Slaughter and had just been holed up in that cave for six days. All anyone would’ve talked about was how deeply JC must love his shixiong to make it back in such record time. It would all be “heroic rescue” this “unflagging loyalty” that. But instead, LWJ+WWX  had to really just steal the limelight.
In fact, the book is partly about the fact that people don't analyze people's actions too deeply. They believe what they hear. They believe what they want to believe. JC really can just say "I reject WWX" and they believe it. JGS can really just say "WWX is evil" and they believe it. Everybody says LWJ is perfect, so they believe he can't be a cut-sleeve who is in love with WWX. And WWX, who knows better than anyone that rumors aren't true, believes it too.
Even after WWX's death, JC's reputation is locked onto WWX. I do think this is JC’s own fault, given that he can’t accept his brother’s death and is obsessed with him but idk. Canon demonstrates that there’s a huge difference between what JC says he’ll do if he finds WWX and what JC actually does, and it’s not because LWJ is in the way. But no one really seems to pay attention to the difference between what JC says and what he actually does when the chips are down, except JL, so it’s no wonder everyone says he has torture dungeons, no matter how ludicrous that is.
I think what makes JC’s love for WWX particularly complex, and particularly incomprehensible in the eyes of the cultivation world, is WWX's position in JC's family. JC thought of WWX as a brother. He loved him like a brother. And yet JC was deeply aware that WWX wasn't his brother. JC's mom made sure that JC was deeply aware of that at all times, and you know what, so did his dad. And then, the rest of the cultivation world constantly talked about the fact that WWX was not a part of the family, that the Jiang Clan raised him like a son but he was really the son of a servant. MXTX expertly shows that this fact gets trotted out whenever WWX does something questionable--when WWX is brilliant, he's a lauded member of the clan, but when he is bad, he is of low-birth and adopted through charity. The truth is, it’s an unusual relationship for a world in which there’s a pretty big different between your clan (blood relatives) and sect.
How can JC hold both of these truths in his head? What makes it bearable for JC is that when they grow up, JC will be the Sect Leader and WWX will be his right-hand man; they will do everything together; they will be brilliant together; they never have to worry about blood or debt then, because then it won't matter whether they're brothers or best friends; the difference won't matter. They can both be the head of a family that they love. Except that doesn't happen.
JC’s parents die, and WWX disappears. I will, at this point in my understanding and credit to Jiang Cheng, say that the part about JC I find hardest to swallow is that he partially blames his parents' death on WWX. Yes, WWX stayed behind in the cave of the Tortoise of Slaughter to save LWJ, and yes, this meant that Wen Chao and WLJ have a particular grudge against him, which they use as partial excuse to attack Lotus Pier, but by god, that's a stretch. Lotus Pier would have been attacked anyway, and the fact that JC even partly blames the attack on WWX has far more to do with what his mom said about WWX showing off for the glory and bringing down the wrath of the Wens than it has to do with reality. YZY is going to say anything she can about how WWX being a hero with the Tortoise of Slaughter was actually a bad thing, because it's so fucking painful for her that WWX is a fucking legend when her son just . . . isn't.
As JGY points out, they were in fact the strongest sect once WWX comes back from the Burial Mounds and fights the Sunshot Campaign with JC. They could have been the power couple of JC’s dreams, but just as YZY pits JC against WWX, the cultivation world after the war pitted WWX against themselves and by extension, JC, and JC buys into it. I find this super understandable, and I think it’s pretty unfair to expect JC to be more understanding of WWX, given that WWX is constantly lying to him. Similarly, I think it’s pretty understandable that he doesn’t understand the plight of the Wens, given that WWX doesn’t explain it to him at all. From JC’s POV, WWX just leaves, at a time when JC really needs him, and he does it on a crusade for unrelated people—as though he never considered himself part of the family in the first place.
And you know what, that may be WWX’s POV too. He loves the Jiang family like his own family, but he’s also deeply aware that he is not blood. MXTX makes it very clear in canon that WWX felt that he owed the Jiang Clan, and not in the way you owe a family. That is—he doesn’t owe them his existence, but he thinks he does owe them his core and his cultivation. And he gives it all to JC.
I outlined above that the relationship between JC and WWX is unusual in the cultivation world given that they each feel like the other is family but are consistently reminded of the fact, and pressured to believe, that they are only sect siblings and that WWX is actually a subordinate. I also haven’t found many relationships like this in other media—though I’ll point out once again that my experience is mainly with western media. I think the closest things I can think of are stories in which the parties are of a different class but are raised together for whatever reason—because they actually are somewhat related but one of them has low class relatives, or because they were not as well-supervised in their youth but  one of them suddenly comes into money and is forced to leave his low-class BFF behind, etc.
Given that this relationship is unusual, you don’t see a lot of situations like WWX’s, in which WWX feels like he owes the Jiang family his golden core and then gives it to him. But there’s another element to this sacrifice that I’ve only seen in one other piece of media, and that’s the fact that WWX knows that JC can’t live without being special, and WWX thinks he can handle it.
There is so much in western media about brothers giving up their lives to protect their brothers (Supernatural), or even just giving up their dreams and ambitions so that their brother can follow his own dreams instead (It’s a Wonderful Life). But these sacrifices are always framed as “I love him so much,” or “It’s my duty” or “I couldn’t live with myself if he didn’t get what he wanted” and sometimes even, “I can handle the suffering and I don’t want him to live with it.” But there’s something about WWX’s “eh it’s not a big deal to me  and it is to him” or his “bro’s kinda petty and can’t get over himself, whatchu gonna do” that feels stupidly singular.
WWX never says it isn’t a big deal. He never said that it didn’t hurt or that he didn’t make a sacrifice. He never said JC was pathetic or a loser or anything that diminishes JC or makes him less than he is. What he says is that JC is always competitive and comparing himself to others, which is true. But the other sacrifices in fiction that come close are a little more “I don’t want you to have to suffer” or even “I’m strong, and you’re weak, so I’ll take on this burden for you.” Meanwhile WWX doesn’t think JC is weak, and while WWX doesn’t want to suffer, he certainly doesn’t want to suffer himself. The sentiment feels closer to “you need to feel special so I’ll make that happen for you,” and there’s something about it that is a little condescending.
I mentioned that I’ve only seen this kind of thing one other time, and it was in a baseball anime called Touch that aired in Japan in the 1980s. Touch is a story about twins, one of whom is smart, talented, and works hard. The other twin, Tatsuya, is good in school and good at baseball, but at first seems like a lazy guy who only cares about joking around and having fun. Then you find out he’s a genius and a one-in-a-lifetime talent, but just never bothered to focus on anything because he’s so stupidly good at everything that he would just show his brother up, and his brother cares about excelling and Tatsuya doesn’t, so he just…was careful to never apply himself to anything.
WWX isn’t Tatsuya, in that when they’re on an even playing field, WWX doesn’t really seem to have any compunctions about showing off. But as soon as the playing field becomes uneven, he also has no compunctions about destroying himself so that JC’s competitive spirit is satisfied. There’s something about it that has a flavor of “I’m better than you,” even if it’s never what WWX meant to communicate. No wonder JC feels like a clown.
Like, in the end, WWX kind of did make a fool of JC, even though WWX did it out of both love and loyalty. I'm not sure I've ever read or seen anything else where such a sacrifice has such ambiguity, and it really makes the WWX+JC relationship one of the most complicated I've seen.

Jiang Cheng would very much like to throw all the Lan and Jin disciples out from Lotus Pier because they’re all irritating as hell and even worse when they’re together, but there’s the issue of keeping them from spreading rumors and that Lan Wangji and Jin Zixuan are going to refuse to leave.
Jin Zixuan is fair enough. That’s his wife and child. But Jiang Cheng give anything to be able to kick Lan Wangji into the nearest lotus pond rather than put a roof over his head.
He wants to lie down and not think for a little bit and he wants to hide his face in his older sister’s skirts like when he was a child and he wants to hold onto Wei Wuxian so he can’t leave him again but none of that is reasonable or justifiable or fair.
So instead he watches as they discuss what to do next, how to handle this without kicking off another war.
It’s good to be concerned, and careful, but he doesn’t think there’ll be another war from this, even if they just them back into society with minimal explanation. At least, there won’t be as long as they don’t start killing sect leaders.
Things are different now than they were thirteen years ago.
He has a much firmer grip on his clan and the place of the Jiang in cultivation society isn’t desecrated and limping along. The same can be said of Lan Xichen and the Lan.
Nie Mingjue was an ass last time, somewhat understandably, but both Nie Huaisang and Lan Xichen are better equipped to talk him down and pacify him this time. Besides, Jiang Cheng is a lot more willing and able to kick his ass about it if he has to.
While he would very much like to avoid doing anything with Lan Wangji, he knows he would help, that now that Wei Wuxian is back it’s going to be hell getting that asshole out of their hair. They might as well put him to work.
He real problem, the thing that just shoehorning them back in place stupid rather than inadvisable, is the Jin and the minor clans that have clustered around them.
Jin Zixuan and his ilk aren’t a problem, of course. But Jin Guangshan and the older members of their clan that are still loyal to him, which is a rather large amount, don’t like anything that upsets the balance of power away from them and they do their best to crush it. And often succeed.
He wishes he’d known, he wishes the letter A-jie and Wei Wuxian insist they’ve sent had gotten to him and that he hadn’t spent the past thirteen years drowning and curdling in his grief, he wishes they hadn’t had to survive on their own, hiding and lying and running, and that he could have helped them.
But despite all that, he understands why A-jie felt the need to take her son and run from Koi Tower.

Ok, so I saw someone on Twitter (No, I'm not calling it X) applauding Wen Ning for explaining the golden core situation to Jiang Cheng since otherwise, JC would never stop making WWX's life hell for the rest of his life and saying that it's good that JC now knows about it thanks to Wen Ning and that "without Wei Wuxian, Jiang Cheng would be nothing." And aside from everything else in that statement (like okay, yes, thanks Wen Ning for finally telling JC the truth, but the way Wen Ning made that revelation, blaming JC and berating him for the information THEY intentionally withheld from him, and the surgery they did on him without his consent and with active deceiving since they knew he would never consent to it was...let's say, less than ideal. Like...WN, my sweetest boy, JC is the victim here. You're the cute little culprit. You don't get to yell angrily at him about this specific thing. And the way it implies that JC justifiably asking WWX for an explanation for the whole, you know... killing their BIL and then starting a massacre at Nightless City that accidentally resulted in their sister's death & the orphaning of their nephew is making WWX's life hell. And the way this tweet reduces Jiang Cheng to his golden core. without his golden core, Jiang Cheng was still the heir to the Yunmeng Jiang sect and a son of the Meishan Yu sect, and a resilient, brave, strong, foresighted, smart, & capable man and a charismatic, diplomatic and overall good leader, thank you. And no, don't start with "he was wilting away without his golden core". He was forcibly put into a coma and not given any time to handle the issue. Those few days practically were nothing to him. It was like he had JUST been rescued from the LP every time he woke up. He dealt with many shitstorms afterward and kept going. Having a breakdown after calamities is the normal thing to do, JC just gets the hysterical woman treatment by everyone.) I would like to say that, without Jiang Cheng, Wei Wuxian would have been dead. Not in episode 16/chapter 59 but in episode 14/chapter 55 in the cave. And NHS would have no reason to bring back WWX. You'd have a total of 14 episodes to watch and 55 chapters to read.

"Lan Zhan," Wei Wuxian says again, laying a hesitant hand on Lan Zhan's shoulder. "Say something, Lan Zhan. Please?"
The huddled mass of white robes at her side shifts; and then, a large, dark eye fixes itself upon Wei Wuxian, glaring at her with such fury that she jumps backward in surprise.
"Don't look at me like that," she entreats. "I had to come, Lan Zhan. I had to see if you were all right, and Jiang Cheng..."
Her voice dies away, stymied by the scarlet rings at the rims of Lan Zhan's eyes; and then her intended lets out a scoff, and turns back to face the rock wall at his left.
"I'm not sorry! If I hadn't come, you'd have been all alone here! All on your own, with a broken leg!" Wei Wuxian shouts, barely resisting the impulse to reach out and shake Lan Zhan's thin shoulders. "Mianmian would have been branded. She might have lost her sight, Lan Zhan! That's the truth, no matter what you think about it, so don't you dare ignore me! Were you going to splint your own leg, when it was like that? Were you going to help the others drive the Xuanwu off on your own? There must be some limit to hard-headedness, even yours—and you haven't even married me yet, so you've no right to—"
"You should not have come," Lan Zhan says quietly. "If you were a man, I...I would not have objected, in spite of the risk. But as things stand, none of our party were in greater danger than you. Not even Luo-guniang."
Wei Wuxian's blood runs cold. "And what's that supposed to mean?"
"It means," Lan Zhan hisses, "that you are a lady, and that men of Wen Chao's ilk turn to one thing alone when they find themselves thwarted by a woman! Worse still if the woman happens to be beautiful, as you are! It does not matter that you could wring his neck with both hands tied behind you if you faced him in a fair fight—what will that do, when the huadan shou need only touch your lower dantian to destroy your golden core?
"Wen Chao is a wretched creature—he is nothing, and worth nothing—and he cannot abide that knowledge, so he is ten times the danger to you that Wen Ruohan might be! If he saw your face under the paint and realized that you were a girl, the same girl who defied him at the Cloud Recesses, then—!"
He bows his head, making a sharp, harsh sound that reminds Wei Wuxian of the frogs that dwell in the swamp near Lotus Pier; and as the sound goes on, Wei Wuxian realizes that Lan Zhan is weeping.
"You were worried about me?" she asks at length, after Lan Zhan seems to be done crying. "All this time?"
"If I had not been so determined to protect you," he says drearily, "I would have dropped dead of fright the moment I saw you walking through the gates."
And then, softly:
"Did Father-in-law send you to keep Jiang-gongzi company?"
"What? Of course not," Wei Wuxian snorts. "If it were up to him, Uncle would have tied me to the railing of Shijie's leisure pavilion to make me stay put. But I had to go, so I railed and shouted for three days before A-Cheng left; and after he was gone, I shut myself up in my room until nightfall and pretended I'd changed my mind when Uncle tried to reason with me at dinner. The next morning, I packed a traveling kit and followed the boats on Suibian."
"Yuefu and Sister-in-law must be terrified."
"En," Wei Wuxian agrees, her insides squirming uneasily at the reminder of Jiang Yanli: for her Shijie must have been the first person to notice that Wei Wuxian had left Lotus Pier. "Even so, they must have known my going along would give Jiang Cheng a better chance of coming back in one piece. A-Cheng fights well, and he can go on without a rest for nearly as long as I can; but he's terrible at working his way out of things, and..."
Lan Zhan moves a little closer to her. "And what?"
"I knew I'd be needed here," she murmurs. "I had an inkling—and I was right. I could have relied on you to protect the others, but I already suspected that you'd been injured when you didn't write back to me at the end of last month. You wouldn't need to be driven to the brink to rebel against Wen Chao; and when I heard that Gusu Lan had agreed to join the indoctrination, I knew something must have gone wrong.
"If the choice were left to you, Lan Zhan, you'd have slaughtered your way out on two broken legs before you let the likes of Wen Chao take you as a prisoner. So I suppose—well, I suppose—"
Lan Zhan stares at Wei Wuxian in bewilderment.
"What do you suppose? I do not follow."
"I would have come for you either way," she tells him. "Even if Jiang Cheng had remained at Lotus Pier, I'd have come to see you."
At that, his hand tightens its grip upon hers. Idly, Wei Wuxian notes that their palms are almost exactly the same size, matching one another bone for bone from their wrists to the tips of their fingers: though this does not surprise her, since Wei Wuxian is unusually tall for a girl of eighteen.
Were they holding hands ten minutes ago? Wei Wuxian doubts it, since he only just stopped being angry with her; but now, as his pulse begins to beat in double time against her skin, Wei Wuxian is somehow certain that she and Lan Zhan had entered the Xuanwu's cave with their fingers tightly entwined between them.
"There's no way out of here, save past the Xuanwu," Wei Wuxian says at last, gazing dimly at their joined palms. "We'll have to lure it out of its hiding place and leave through the tunnel while it's distracted."
"Mm, I know. But we will need strength, and your burn needs healing. Before we do anything else, we must sleep."
Wei Wuxian nods and lies wearily back against his shoulder. A moment later, she realizes that Lan Zhan has fallen asleep, and no wonder: for judging by the moonlight filtering down from the fist-sized hole in the roof of the cave, haishi must have already come and gone.
Despite herself, Wei Wuxian nearly bursts out laughing.
And then she too is fast asleep; and although she is weaponless, and wounded, her dreams go untouched by any shadow of the peril awaiting them both on the morrow.

So it was set during Cloud Recesses era and Wangxian had gotten together at some point before the fic, and the fic itself is about wx being caught having sex in the library by SMS, except he's being a gross voyeur and getting off on that without wx's permission.
They catch him in the act and when sms tries to say that they'll end up punished when he says what happened, LWJ went and said something like "Even if I'm punished, you'll be punished worse cuz I'm clan and you're just an outer desciple."

12. Hello, I am new here! But I have been trying to find this one fic, that I read a while back and am not sure if it was deleted or not. I think it was a time travel fix-it of sorts. All I remember is that WangXian got together either before or during the war with the Wens and after a battle or on their way to a battle, they are passive through a burnt down village where WWX senses or hears the call of a Fierce Corpse and calls to it. It is severely burnt, like chard black, burnt and it is carrying a bundle. It turns out to be LSZ as a baby. WWX realized that the corpse, a'Yuan's birth mother, was so worried for him that even after her horrific death her Fierce Corpse protected her son.
WWX promises her that he and LWJ would raise him and keep him safe, allowing her to pass on. As they leave WWX says that LSZ feels like he is theirs, and LWJ agrees that he is now theirs. I think it was a WIP or that it got completed not long after I read it originally, but for the life of me, I cannot recall the name or anything outside of this scene. I think it wasn't very nice to JWY/JC, but I could be very wrong about this...

I had a gremlin thought and had to throw it at you. So we all know that JC and WWX revolved around JYL (as they should) and would 100% do what she told them to. Why had no one taken this to its logical conclusion? Let’s say it’s after another failed meeting in between JYL and her horrible fiancé she is doing the depressingly normal routine of trying to not be hurt while YZY is being horrible to WWX and JC. And she just takes a moment to breathe and wonder why them. What has she and her siblings done to suffer like this? One of the disciples comes over and offers her any help they can. This causes JYL to just have a moment of realization where she stops and tries to remember the last time anyone except those outside the sect asked the Sect leaders for anything. Because the people know that JFM is just passive at best and YZY is plain aggressive. JYL was raised to be a sect wife and basically shadow run a sect right? And let’s say she’s been doing this for years at this point. WWX basically owns the disciples and every resident of Lotus Pier. JC is Sect Heir and has every ounce of loyalty his people and siblings can give him. JYL has this vision of a sect run by the three siblings and it’s just so much better. I imagine for all that they were their mother and father JFM and YZY were very estranged from their children. It’s also basically canon that WWX hid so much of his power and skill from everyone as to not rock the boat. JYL rolls into her brothers rooms, sees the hurt that has been allowed to fester for to long and just decides it’s her turn to go feral. So now I present the idea of a coup. JYL points at the Sect and says I want it and her brothers go whole or in pieces? Now I don’t think any of the siblings is cold enough to kill JFM or YZY so I’m more leaning more towards talisman master over there creating a Jiāng version of Lan forced seclusion. Think about this would put canon in a blender and just shred it. We have Sect leader JYL, her co leader/Heir JC and their brother/Head disciple WWX. Think about WWX allowed to make the Jiāng a talisman powerhouse. Think about how a strengthened, united three person leadership which is really just JYL telling her brothers what to do and them doing it cheerfully. Everyone is validated, there isn’t constant fighting and money is rolling in from the talisman sales. The Jiāng all of a sudden are rising like someone strapped a rocket onto their ass. Let’s be honest the Lan are traditionalists who will swiftly be left in the dust by galaxy-for-a-brainWWX! Who invents like some people breathe. The Jin hold power by riches and let’s point again at our resident genius talisman master who rolls out the flags and compass. The Jiāng are getting richer by the second. The Nie are powerhouses and we have JC and WWX who are ridiculous and almost evenly matched. Lotus disciples are melee masters and going against one now makes a lot of people want to cry because Head Disciple WWX is going to drag his shidis into excellence one way or the other. JC is laughing on the sidelines because how do you think he got so powerful huh and let’s be real our angry grape loves watching people suffer. All of a sudden the Wen conquest doesn’t look to realistic anymore. Then WWX meets WN and WQ and decides to impulse adopt them and their entire branch. Then the Jiāng are now also the medical center of the Sects? Watch out Wens you’ve just lost the top spot to three teenagers two of which are really just following their beloved sisters lead. All I’m saying is JYL ruling the Cultivation World with her brothers cheerfully giving her whatever she wants while she can finally pamper them as she pleases. You want the horrible peacock? Fine buts he’s marrying in. Hey little brother you’re drooling over WQ huh? There is much mocking from single WWX towards his siblings. For awhile WWX is the only unmarried Lotus Pier sibling and boy is he hunted. Everyone is tripping over themselves to lock down the most eligible bachelor who is handsome and rich. And then WWX meets his LZ and how the tables have turned brother dear? Let’s just say the Lans are going to lose that fight before it even begins. LWJ is going to perish at their first meeting. take an AU haunting me for ages now: the “sects go to the terrifying Yiling patriarch to ask for his help in the war, WWX ends up demanding LWJ marry him” fics?
Yes, that, but kinda in reverse.
The Sects go to meet the Yiling Patriarch and he’s as expected: arrogant, bold, careless, demanding. And using heretic powers to keep his Burial Mounds untouched by the world.
They negotiate, he smirks properly wicked, and and says he wants to name a bride and a marriage to the Lan.
The Lan talk, outraged, but they have a war to win so the agreement is struck: marriage to the Lan and the Yiling Patriarch is allowed to name bride and groom. They write it down exactly like that.
The war happens, but with the Yiling Patriarch’s army of the resentful dead, they lose less soldiers, win more battles. The Lan wonder why they were chosen, perhaps because they hold enough moral sway that any hostage of theirs wouldn’t result in another war? Regardless, Lan Wangji makes it his job to stick close to the Yiling Patriarch, as close as he will let anyone. He has a whole entourage of ghost brides, though only one stays close to him at all times, veiled whenever they have company
They win the war. “Bride and groom,” the Yiling Patriarch says and swears to return in three months. There is talk of taking him down now that Wen are gone, but no one wants to go to war in the Burial Mounds.
The Yiling Patriarch arrives in three months as promised, dressed in red, followed by a parade of people. “I’ve come to collect my debt,” he tells them. “I will name Lan Wangji as the groom,” he says, sparking confusion and outrage. Does he intend to name one of his ghost brides next? And indeed, he reached for one, lifts her veil, revealing living woman, but takes the veil for himself instead. “And I, myself, will be his bride.”
The story goes a little like this:
One. Wei Ying’s parents die and he follows them. Only he is young and alive and curious and the Burial Mounds are very hungry. They devour him skin, flesh, bone, teeth. And they spit him out again. And again again and again.
Two. Wen Qing is her uncle’s favorite, but she’s her brother’s only sister. She fears what war means, what the retaliation might mean. Young Masters go to the Cloud Recesses for study on invitation, Wen Qing goes to the Burial Mounds to beg.
Three. There is very little begging to be done in front of a boy her brother’s age, who hasn’t been hugged in years and keeps the company of murdered brides as though they are his mothers, aunts and sisters. She asks for protection, he asks for a meal.
Four. They cannot stay in the Burial Mounds forever. It is not a place for children even Wei Wuxian realizes that one morning and promptly disappears in his childhood bedroom, a cold cave filled with trinkets of the dead. He survived on the cost of skin, flesh, bone, teeth. They cannot all pay this price.
Five. The Sects knock at his door, a solution presents itself. He dressed Wen Qing like his older sister, veil and all, and hides her among his undead. They strike a bargain.
Six. They could keep a hostage, but a hostage will not keep them fed. Brides, he knows from childhood on, marry out. One of his sisters would’ve taken with her all her servants, had her unwilling husband not killed her on the wedding night.
Seven. “This is why it has to be a Lan,” Wen Qing tells him. Your husband would not kill you like this. They might keep him in some other way, but what could be worse than skin, flesh, bone, teeth? A wedding night of death? Nothing. And if he can help his family by making them servants and himself a bride, he’ll stay locked up in the Cloud Recesses. At least this prison will not spit him out.
What Lan Wangji knows is this: the Yiling Patriarch is mocking them, but there is a debt and a debt must be paid.
They marry in name, no matter how much the Yiling Patriarch taunts him about the contents of a proper marriage, and then they live separately. They keep an eye on him of course, him and his servants, who keep to themselves, settling in Caiyi and the Cloud Recesses, wary, hungry, terrified people - not of their master, but of everyone else.
And then, on accident maybe, a slip of the tongue, one of those servants soak a different name. Within a second, the Yiling Patriarch is in front of them in protection, though he looks less arrogant, less bold, less careless, less demanding. He looks, Lan Wangji thinks, like someone who has more too lose than he’d ever admit. He looks terrified like no one in the Cloud Recesses ever should.
So maybe he should ask him why

I just am obsessed with any story that’s about people who love each other but cannot do justice to that love because they have a duty to something else first. That there is something else fundamental and demanding that they must choose over love every time. To be forced to choose one irreplaceable thing over another etc etc
#For Jiang Cheng that’s his responsibility to his sect and to their people#and the burnt and fragile remains of their home#who are all counting on him—an orphaned teenager—to protect and lead them#And as much as he might want to throw that all away to be by his brother’s side#or as much as he might want to help wen qing and wen ning#they can never come first. because first he has to keep his people safe. he can’t put them at risk#no matter how much he loves his brother#he’s not powerful enough yet for taking a stand to do anything other than get his sect burned to the ground a second time#and that turns into him standing in the burial mounds near tears as he tells his brother ‘I can’t protect you anymore’#Which is its own bitter irony because you know wwx is thinking that it’s not his little brother’s job to protect him)#(with no idea how much he already has)#meanwhile for wei wuxian his primary duty is to help the wens#because he protected his brother at an unspeakable cost and his brother protected the sect and they’re going to be fine without him#(who only endangers them more by being around them)#which means now Wei Wuxian’s first and most important duty#is to protect this group of people who have absolutely no one else in the world who will stand with them#So even though it breaks his heart to leave his home and family he has to do what is right#It’s why I liked wen qing so much too. she and jiang cheng understood this about each other#while i don’t think jiang cheng and wei wuxian understand this about each other at all#because jc is standing there like when did i and my sister and our clan stop being your most important#and wwx is like I have already given everything I can give to you and I can only make things worse for you. but these people?I can help them#so i have to help them#as you guys can see. im not doing well#anyway watch black sails#the untamed

Todays thoughts!
Wangxian meeting at the mall, single mom wwx shopping for some clothes with his little radish.
Wei Ying had gone to the mall cause he needed to buy a nice outfit for a date he did not want to go to, but of course his shijie was the one to set it up for him. Something about being time for him to put himself out there, find someone to take care of him as much as he takes care of his son. He, of course, insisted that he was fine fairing on his own. If anything, the reason why Wei Ying didn't want to date at all is more of finding someone that would put the same love and dedication to A-Yuan as he does.
And he knows, from experience, that's hard if not impossible to find.
So cut to a very stressed and distracted Wei Ying looking through clothes while his son played hide and seek in the racks of clothes. He'd been making sure to see A-Yuan popping his head out through the clothesline with a bright smile that matches his own, every so often calling out to him if he noticed he was taking too long to pop out. At least one of them was having fun. This was the third clothing store he visited, and the frustration of not finding anything remotely nice, or something that matched his style, was taking its toll. At the end, he sighs with exasperation. He'll just have to call his sister and tell her that he's sick, or something.
"A-Yuan, come out. We're leaving." There's no response, "A-Yuan, did you hear me?"
His brows dip with concern, it did get too quiet at some point. The giggling and the scraping of the hangers had come to a stop without him noticing. "Mister, if you're playing a joke on your poor A-Niang we won't get ice cream." He mumbles as he looks through the rack, moving the clothes around in mild panic. A-Yuan is nowhere to be found.
Wei Ying is practically panicking at this point, frantically searching for his son, practically yelling his name. He's on the verge of tears as he passes the rows and rows of racks and fixtures. All logic and reason are thrown out the window. There's no way.. there's no way he lost A-Yuan. He's always paid attention, always told him to stay by his side no matter what. What the hell is he going to do? The worst scenarios start crossing through his mind, but he keeps searching. A-Yuan knows to stay put if he ever gets separated from Wei Ying, he knows to not talk to strangers but he's only a toddler. Anything can happen.
“A-Yuan! Where are you?!” Wei Ying calls as he jogs through the store.

Cut to A-Yuan staring wide eye at a tall guy with honey eyes. They're both having a staring contest at this point. That’s not his A-Nian, A-Yuan thinks to himself.
"Hello?" Lan Zhan says with caution. When did this child get here?
The child pursed his lips, slowly retreating into the rack with blue sweaters he was browsing through. "I-I’m not supposed to talk to strangers."
Lan Zhan blinks, staying quiet before nodding in approval. The toddler's parents are smart. He should probably alert security, he looks around in search of security or a staff member. As soon as he spots someone, he starts to walk away to try and get their attention but a small hand takes a tight grip on his light cream trousers.
"W-Wait! Mister— My a-niang told me to stay put if I ever get separated... A-niang will find me soon. Please, don't go."
Scared pleading eyes stare at him, the man seems to think through it for a moment. The smart thing to do would be to report the missing child. But at the same time, he's not sure how he would handle the situation if the toddler were to start crying.
"Alright.” He agrees with a nod. Though, the toddler doesn't let go of his trousers for a moment. At least he looks somewhat more calm. "We'll wait for your mother together."
Not a moment later, Wei Ying runs past them, yelling A-Yuan's name. At first, Lan Zhan looks at him with confusion. The child didn't say anything about his dad looking for him, so instinctively he shields and conceals the toddler. You can never be too safe, he knows people can put any sort of act just to take a child away. However, the toddler scrambled past Lan Zhan's legs and shouts, “A-Niang!"
Wei Ying skids to a stop, whipping his head towards the sound of his son's voice. Relief floods through his body as he falls to his knees and hugs his toddler, so glad that he's safe and sound. At first he doesn't notice the man who had stayed with his son because he's too busy peppering kisses to A-Yuan's chubby cheeks and mumbling "Don't ever scare me like that again!" And “We've talked about this, don't leave my side."
While this exchange is happening, Lan Zhan Is just thinking. The man... that drop dead gorgeous man was the toddler's mother?
A-Yuan clings to Wei Ying's neck, rubbing his face on his cheek, “A-Yuan is sorry, A-niang. Please don't be mad."
The puppy eyes win Wei Ying over and he can't be mad anymore. Silver eyes quickly scan his child, making sure there’s no injuries. He hugs his little radish once more, only then is when he notices the man watching the whole scene, and he can tell he's kinda not knowing what to do with himself.
"Um... can I help you?" Wei Ying asks a little defensive while hugging his son closer.
Before the man can utter an answer, A-Yuan beams with excitement. “That gege helped A-Yuan wait for A-niang!"
“Oh. Is that so?" He says, silver eyes softening and shoulders letting the tension leave.
"Mn. My name is Lan Zhan." He introduced himself and woah, how could Wei Ying not notice how handsome this man was.
“Thank you, Lan Zhan, for keeping an eye on my son. I really don't know how to repay you…”
"A-niang, is this the gege you're meeting later?" The toddler looked at Lan Zhan with hopeful eyes. "Gege taking my a-niang to dinner?"
Wei Ying quickly gets all embarrassed, cheeks flushed red like the ribbon holding his long hair in a ponytail. “Aiya, aiya! Stop bothering the nice gege! I'm sure he has many things to do."
"But!” A-Yuan begins to protest with a pout.
"No buts." Wei Ying picks A-Yuan in his arms, letting some of his weight rest on his hip. Silver eyes meet honey ones. “Thank you, again. I-I gotta get going."
And Lan Zhan can only watch the pair walking away, saying something about "I told you to call me a-niang at home and baba out here." And "I'm never leaving you out of my sight again. You gave me a heart attack.”
He’s sure he hears the child, A-Yuan, mumble “But I like that gege…”
Lan Zhan turns around, shaking his head before continuing his shopping. His chest aches a bit cause he just met the most beautiful man he has ever laid eyes on... It's childish, but he can't help but quietly sulk because he was in fact thinking of asking him out but... it looks like someone had beaten him to it. Wait, he didn't even get his name. He sulks even more.

Back in Wei Ying's home, he was getting ready for his date. It shouldn't be too late to cancel, right?
“You look dashing!” His sister compliments with a soft clap. “Come now, don’t make that face.”
“Jie, I don’t know this man… What if he doesn’t like A-Yuan? What if he’s secretly an asshole?” Anxiety was clear in his voice, though it was quickly soothed when Jiang Yanli walked over and fixed the collar of his burgundy button up.
“You doubt your A-Jie will pick a good man for you?” She teases with a thin eyebrow raising in question.
“Not you… I don’t trust A-Sang.” He side-eyes his friend, who is sitting on the couch making faces to his baby nephew. “Are you sure it’s not too late to cancel?”
“A-Ying, you need this. I promise it’ll be good for you.” His sister reassures, gently patting his shoulders. She smiles softly at her younger brother. “I want you to be happy.”
“I am happy.” He reassures her
She chuckles, patting the top of his hand. “You know what I mean. YingYing, are you sure you don’t want me to watch over A-Yuan?”
“Nuh-huh, if I’m meeting this guy then he’s meeting a-yuan too. If he doesn’t love him then I won’t even give him a chance!”
“A-Ying.”
“I’ve made up my mind, Jie. Now, tell me A-Yuan doesn’t look like the most adorable gentleman you’ve ever seen.” Wei Ying coos as his son walks into the living room wearing a t-shirt with the print of a tuxedo. He picks him up and peppers his cheeks with many kisses.
Soon, they’re both arriving at the restaurant. At least the guy he’s meeting has good taste. Before they step in, Wei Ying sets down his son, going through the motions of fixing his clothes. “If you don’t like the guy, we’ll leave as soon as you want, okay? No one can pull my attention from my little radish.”
A-Yuan nods, and with that they both walked into the bustling restaurant. Wei Ying couldn’t help but to feel irritated at bit his sister and best friend. What the hell did Nei Huaisang mean that I’ll know when I see him? Would’ve been better if he just showed me a picture. He thinks to himself while rolling his eyes. Though, he couldn’t deny he was extremely nervous to meet this mystery guy that he had been set up with.
“A-Niang, look! It’s the nice gege from earlier!”
Wei Ying is quick to follow his son’s line of sight, and there he was. Lan Zhan sat at a tsks closer to the window, dressed up in a light blue suit with a light cream shirt. He knew Lan Zhan was handsome, but to see him in a suit? How the sleeves seemed hug his arms just tight enough to let you know the man works out. Before he knew it, Wei Ying was being tugged towards Lan Zhan’s table. “Hey, hey! Baobei let’s not bother the nice gege, he’s probably waiting for someone.” He tried to whisper, tugging his son the other way but they were already spotted.
“Gege! Hi gege!” A-Yuan chimes as Lan Zhan stands from his chair. Was he always this tall?
“Hi, Lan Zhan. What a coincidence! A-Are you here by yourself, or…”
He can see golden eyes scanning him up and down before landing back on his face. He can’t help but shift in place at the intensity of Lan Zhan’s gaze. “I am waiting for someone.” Lan Zhan responds quietly, gaze still on Wei Ying.
“Oh… Me too!” He’s quick to add before chuckling, “Well, you already knew that… A-Are you waiting for a date?”
Lan Zhan seems to consider his answer, and Wei Ying can’t help but to find it amusing at how deflated and defeated the other looks when he responds with a quiet “Yes.”
Wei Ying laughs once more, “Not really looking forward to it? I get it, my sister and best friend set me up for mine. I don’t even know who I’m supposed to meet! Can you believe they refused to give me his name? Or even show me a picture? They really took the definition of ‘blind date’ way too serious.”
Lan Zhan stares at him wide eye, and for a moment Wei Ying thinks he said something wrong. “No offense to whoever you’re meeting, of course! I bet they’re—“
“Wei Ying?” Lan Zhan takes a step closer towards him, but he doesn’t see himself taking a step back.
Brows furrow, “Yeah? Do… Do I have something on my face?”
“I’m meeting with Wei Ying… You are Wei Ying.”
The father can only look at the other in bewilderment, was… was Lan Zhan his blind date? No, this was to good to be true. A guy like Lan Zhan… he could have anyone, the man looked like a god! “Who set you up?” He decided to ask, if he’s says ut was Nei Huaisang then he really was having a date with Lan Zhan. There were no other Wei Ying’s around, not that he knows of.
Wei Ying can tell Lan Zhan is having the same train of thought. “My brother… He was convinced by a family friend that I should… attempt to meet new people.”
“Was it Nie Huaisang? Oh my god! That asshole set everything up!” Wei Ying exclaims once Lan Zhan confirms his suspicions, hands brushing the already messy bangs from his face, a loud laugh echoing through the restaurant. He winced, tho, when people enjoying their food shoot a glare at him. “I can’t believe this…Wait, if you knew my name, why didn’t you say anything earlier.”
Lan Zhan pressed his lips together before answering. “You did not give me your name.”
“Oh— I… Huh, I was really distracted. It would’ve made things easier for the both of us, huh?” Wei Ying smiles at him. “Well… mind if we join you, then? My treat, since you were my hero earlier and I must repay your kindness and patience!”
“Are we having dinner with the nice gege??” A-Yuan suddenly chimes, wide eyes darting between the two adults. Wei Ying smiles as he ruffles his hair.
“We sure are!”
“I knew it! The Nice gege is taking my a-niang for dinner!” The toddler soon clings to Lan Zhan’s leg, which caught him off guard.
“Aiya, A-Yuan! Where are your manners?” Wei Ying chides playfully, attempting to pull his son back to his side.
“I do not mind.” Lan Zhan responds with a smile ghosting over his lips.
The three of them sit at the table. Wei Ying talks away about anything and everything, and Lan Zhan pays full attention to every single word, attention unflinching. It especially melts his heart when Lan Zhan gives the same type of attention to A-Yuan, listening with much seriousness to all the stories he has to tell. He looks at both of them with so much fondness that he feels his heart bursting at the seams. Yeah… it was good he decided to not cancel the date.

I’ve got a theory that WWX would be so much more neurotic if JC was a girl instead. Like you know how aggressive and mean he was to JZX? He’d be even worse to any man he thought was even remotely interested in his adorable Shimei. Like as much as he downplayed male JC’s accomplishments, he’d be even weirder about female JC’s accomplishments. I just think he’d be weird and territorial and it’s kind of fun to think about.
I think we can look at how neurotic he already is about JYL and multiply that by how much he will rip himself apart for m!JC, and then it is very reasonable to dial that up by 100 for shimei JC who can't be the heir her father needed (but is stronger than her elder sister regardless) and so JFM spends all his time training WWX to take care of f!JC to the detriment his relationship with his daughters and wife--who absolutely doesn't want WWX to be trained in what f!JC should be able to do herself.
💯 JFM would have betrothed those two as soon as he saw them get along even a little bit.
WWX absolutely would feel so responsible for his shimei, guard dog extroidinaire. JFM put him in charge of the future of the sect!
Indoctrination would have been way worse, way sooner. Wen Chao would have tried to assault f!JC and would have died for the attempt.
In that AU unless it is more definitive that f!JC would die without a core though, I think WWX wouldn't do the transfer because he would think it would be better to protect her if he stayed whole. Then again in that AU he kills Wen Chao and then WZL immediately melts his core unless the narrative saves them.
