Hello Everyone!

This is a long one, so apologies in advance! 

You may notice the Klaine Advent looking a little different this year! As noted in an earlier post, we’re rebranding to the December Klaine Fanworks Challenge!

There are a handful of reasons we’re doing this, but hopefully this little refresh will get people excited about participating all the way to the end. For consistency this year this event will remain attached to the Klaine Advent blog, and we’ll determine after the event whether we need to change that in the future.

So, how are things changing? 

There will be still be a daily word (yay!), these are chosen via a random word generator, and are NOT themed in any way. These words will post on this blog every day around 6 am Eastern Standard TIme.

That said! Since it is December, and Glee comes with a Christmas episode every year, and Klaine do have a Christmas duet tradition (more years than not anyway…) we will also be posting a weekly theme! These will be holiday flavored, and we are kicking off this inaugural event with the theme of Christmas Songs. Each weekly themed post will highlight a different song and some selected lyrics.

On to the details!

The Dates. December 1 - December 21 

The Words. Every day around 6am, US Eastern Standard Time, a fresh new word will pop out of the queue. This year the words are not alphabetical, and were chosen by a random word generator. The wonderful @caramelcoffeeaddict did all of the artwork again this year!

How to participate. Anyone can contribute, no need to sign up! There will be a single word prompt post each day for 21 days (December 1-21), and a holiday themed post every Friday beginning December 1, with the final themed post dropping December 22. You can write a drabble (or a sentence or a novel, if you like), create an art piece, make fresh gifs based on the prompt - whatever inspires you! This year the tag will be: “december klaine challenge 2023” and please tag with the word of the day so volunteers can ID the posts they need to reblog (please please please make sure all of your contributions are tagged so we can find them!). 

Contribute however works best for you. You can do something every day, every 4th day, once a week, altogether at the end, whatever works for you and your schedule. Use all the prompts or pick and choose what speaks to you. Set your own challenges. The only requirements for the Challenge are that it be Klaine centered, and that it references or uses one the word (or theme) prompt in some way.

Volunteers will be reblogging fics to the @todaydreambelieversfic blog, so you can always go scroll the blog to find the latest entries.  Of course everyone (especially the authors!) would be delighted if people reblogged to their own blog - the more people who reblog something the wider the potential viewing audience. We want to encourage everyone to reblog as many fics as they like all throughout the month!!

Partnership. This year again we’ll be partnering with @todaydreambelieversfic.  Authors and other creators for Klaine Advent who would like an additional place to promote their works are welcome to join as members. Just send a private message to @todaydreambelieversfic with your email address and they’ll add you to the blog membership.

Archive of Our Own. We have created a collection on AO3 for those people who don’t post to tumblr, and where those folks who do post to tumblr can share their advent works if you like! The collection will be up this weekend and I'll make another post when that's rolling.

“But what if I don’t write or make art and don’t have time to volunteer?”  You are the most important person in the Advent!! I guess I will just specifically talk about my story posts because sometimes I like to do renders too, but they're not my specialty.

Play the game/create the characters!! I do have a bit of a storyline planned out in my head before I go in game. My characters all have their own arcs that I want to show them working through at some point in time, so I do a lot of monitoring to make sure they don't go too off course with autonomy. But a lot of the time I do just allow whatever happens in the game to add a new direction or expand on a scenario I've already had in mind (it's so nice when the game works and things happen the way I imagine it would IRL). With things like segs, I almost always let it play out.

Write out storyboards with dialogue. I imagine important scenes in my head the way that I would ideally want them to have gone down in the game. I like to picture it all as a movie, going through the specific camera angles and dialogue moment to moment. Then, I will write it all down with good ol' pen and paper (lol). A small intro of the scene followed by dialogue, then a very rough storyboard of shots, angles, and poses I want to use alongside the dialogue.

I re-create the important scenes/scenarios. Before I go in game, I add all the animation mods that I think might work well for the scene I'm about to make, along with all the poses. I use whatever cheats are necessary to get the shots cause I never save while I'm doing this.

Editing. I take all the screenshots and put them into photoshop to add text and small things like light leaks or bokeh. Sometimes I have to adjust the contrast or brightness, but gshade does most of the work for me beforehand.

That's it! The posts will usually sit in a folder undisturbed for about a month or so until the queue catches up.

Blog updates & writing changes

Happy March, everybody!

I wanted to outline a few new things I'm going to start doing in my posting and writing that I'd like to give my more active followers a heads up on (because they're probably the only ones who'd even notice, hehe):

Reblogging my old original content. I know content creators are supposed to/encouraged to do this, but I just never really have. I guess I was just embarrassed about it, because it felt like forcing my stale content onto people's dashes. Then I finally accepted that I'm being stupid, so yeah. I'm going to start throwing my old writings regularly in my queue and hopefully that gets my more obscure stuff a little love.

Writing my "long reviews" of fics in Comments instead of Reblogs. I know writers appreciate my long reviews of their fics, but I also realized it may be visually annoying for readers to see my big-ass slab of text next to the story itself when I reblog. So I decided to start doing "clean reblogs" with just little comments in tags, and then just spam the comments section with whatever other thoughts I have. Long reviews must and will continue--just differently.

Using 2nd Person POV in Reader Insert Stories ONLY. I experimented with using the 2nd PPOV a few times in my Canon x OC stories, and although it flowed well enough, I realized 2nd PPOV is just best reserved for nameless Reader insert stories, which is what it's primarily intended for. From now on, every story told with a defined Original Character will use 3rd Person POV. (Sorry if this seems like some kind of "duh" announcement. I had to experiment to get to that realization!)

(Shamelessly) Using OCs for any and all stories that are not one-shots (a.k.a. multi-part or chapter). Currently, this only changes my plans for my Boromir fic, which I've decided to upgrade from one-shot to full series (Yay?); it started out as a Reader insert, but now I'm going to switch "Female Reader" over to an actual OC. Honestly guys, since arriving at Tumblr, I have given in to the fear of this site's open antagonism towards OCs, and have subconsciously tried to fudge the truth that I actually live and breathe for OCs. In fact, I like to think creating Original Characters is what I do best. It would be disingenuous and hypocritical of me to be ashamed of writing Canon x OCs, so I'm going to stop that hedging nonsense and promote and write for my OCs as often as I can.

And finally, if you've read this entire post all the way to the end without cringing or rolling your eyes, I want you to know love you and appreciate your support so much. You give me writing powers.

Alright, you probably didn't notice I was gone because I had a lot of stuff on queue but I actually wasn't here here. I've been really really busy this semester, a lot going on! New job(s), campaigning for a new student representative charge at uni, internship, lots of exams, new friends, parents divorcing so I'm probably moving soon, new get-used-to-being-outside-again, new I'm-not-that-depressed-now (yay), new maybe-i-do-like-my-career-after-all, new projects and goals! (Writing everything down I realized that it's been a lot, but I'm doing fine).

All of that made me distance myself from this hellsite (affectionate) due to my lack of time (and my poor ability to organize my time), I have no idea what I'm posting anymore, I had a lot on queue so Tumblr is still posting for me, which is kinda the idea I guess but there were things going on here? And I didn't notice? (I was tagged on some posts but haven't responded to it YET) I'm trying to catch up with all this stuff. My tagging system went to hell too and everything is messy (that kinda bothers me but don't think I'll find the time to fix it).

What I'm trying to say is I'm sorry I haven't been able to reply to posts or messages! I'm catching up little by little! I miss being here and being surrounded by mutuals and having our little interactions!

Happy Munday! I've added quite a few new mutuals over the past 1-2 months and I wanted to take the time to say hello to everyone and share a few guidelines/updates about my blog. If you've been here for awhile, this is probably nothing new for you, but I just wanted to reiterate a few things:

Your mun is old and works in a demanding 9 to 5 job that is anything but 9 to 5. I also just got a raise this past month (a very substantial one! yay!) with a title promotion on the way which will leave me in a more senior role at work with direct reports. In short: During 9 AM - 5 PM EST hours, I usually can't reply to direct messages quickly or participate on the dash.

I write. A lot. Long multi-paragraphs are the norm with the occasional novella and fanfiction-esque drabbles as needed to move the plot along. I never ask writing partners to match my length exactly but I usually can't write with one-liners or single-paragraph posts (unless it's silly dashcomm crack that exists outside of our ongoing threads!).

I tend to use a queue and post once a day for thread replies, more when I have enough replies or starters to queue. I try to space these out between muns who reply within 24-48 hours and muns that take a bit more time to keep me from feeling overwhelmed.

I use small text to conserve space, but multiple spaces between words, underlined text, and colored text are hard for me to read and will delay my replies to you.

If I'm writing with you, I dig your portrayal.

Despair!verse threads are few and far between, and right now, on hold. I reference a lot of what happened during The Tragedy in my post-Despair verse, but Despair!verse content is my least favorite to write.

And a few more notes about interactions/plotting/shipping:

I love memes (sending and receiving them), plotting for long-term storylines, and plotting to write a starter! I do not love being tagged in random starters.

Sonia is a slow-burn muse. Even if she does feel attraction at first sight (aka. Gundham Tanaka), she is not quick to enter a relationship (emotional or physical) or admit feelings. Every romantic ship with her will take time to develop (just ask my mutuals whom I do have existing or plotted ships with!).

Ships are all based on chemistry. And alongside my love with writing with OC and crossover muses, I love writing ships with OC and crossover muses.

If you want to write a ship with Sonia, please send me a message and ask! This is what I do when I feel like there's chemistry between muses and a romantic ship could be interesting to write.

As far as Danganronpa muses go, I do have tiers and preferences for ships with Sonia (I made a list, I'm organized! If there's interest I'll share it), but they all must be based, ultimately, on chemistry with my writing partner's take on their muse.

Smut is not a priority on this blog. If I'm writing smut, it's part of another thread and a larger storyline. I'm not a fan of sharing or sending smut starter memes as they just don't interest me: if I'm writing a sex scene, it's because it's part of larger, often plotted interaction.

If you read to the end, thank you! I appreciate it. I'm slowly getting to my replies as I work on preparing costumes for a convention at the end of the month. Besides writing, cosplay is my other big hobby: I'm planning on bringing 8 outfits and it's a lot of planning, some crafting, mostly panicking (as one does before a con).

The Captain said strange things often enough anymore that Mark had stopped questioning it. It wasn’t worth working him up over it. Mark trusted him to know more than he did about running the logistics of a ship and a colony, but some of the things that came out of his mouth were just ... Well. Mark wasn’t one to judge a descriptive, imaginative Captain! Even if he had no idea what he was talking about.

“You don’t have to worry about, um, that, Captain,” he reassured. It came easy to him — why would he do anything else? His heart was still racing. He wasn’t sure if it was because of the blood in his cheeks or — yeah, that must be it. He was just flustered, was all. “Did you need me for something?” he asked, trying desperately to redirect the conversation away from timeloops whatever the Captain was on about.
