What does one genuinely do if they have both fibromyalgia and me/cfs. its an actual comorbidity that exists, and Im curious whether one is supposed to undergo graded exercise therapy or do pacing if thats the case, wouldn't either just worsen one of the conditions?

hello! good question. it’s a sticky situation for sure. i may go on an extended ramble now.

i’m not a professional but from what i’ve seen, the way overexertion impacts ME seems to be riskier than the way inactivity impacts fibro. yes, inactivity may make fibro worse, but the effects are usually proportionate and logical (and often reversible), meanwhile a few days of overexertion beyond a person with ME’s limits can sometimes cause an astronomical worsening for years afterward, which sounds nuts, but is a legit risk. there are reports of people with ME walking into exercise programs and leaving in a wheelchair and never recovering. personally i went from mild to severe after a school trip that involved a lot of walking. before the trip i was technically able bodied and after the trip I was bedbound. I have both fibro & ME and atp my docs say the risk of pushing is not worth it lol. public health guidelines are gradually changing to reflect the reality that it’s not safe for people with ME to increase activity beyond their individual limits, regardless of any comorbid diagnoses they might have.

luckily, pacing isn’t necessarily total rest—it’s doing the maximum activity possible without triggering post-exertional malaise, aka staying within your ‘energy envelope’. you can still preserve muscle while staying in your limits :) people with mild ME may even be able to exercise, especially stuff like very gentle swimming and yoga, as long as it doesn’t trigger PEM.

in my personal experience, when i do pacing, the resting seems to allow some degree of repair and i actually end up with slightly more ability/mobility. long term, i lose function when i push myself (even if i only push gradually in tiny increments) and i gain function when i rest. it’s almost paradoxical. the less i do, the more i become able to do. obvi I’m not recovered but pacing is the only approach that stopped me deteriorating and gave some improvement, which lets me be more active without breaching my limits, which is good for my fibro! yayyy

footnote 1: in case it wasn’t clear, graded exercise usually DOES help people whose sole diagnosis is fibromyalgia. it only seems to be risky if you also have ME. i know people with fibro or POTS/EDS who found improvement from graded exercise :)

footnote 2: almost every doctor i’ve met has a different opinion on how to treat ME & fibro. medical professionals are individuals with varying views depending on where and how long ago they were educated, their personal biases, how up to date on research they are, etc, and your doctor may not agree with my doctors!

10. favorite food? if you asked him directly he would probably shrug and say philosopher's sandwich (a bland, but nutritionally balanced meal, easy to take around) but in all honestly the sweetbread tataru makes, or a spicy curry shared with friends.

21. thoughts on gil? he is a bit strict with himself about spending money, not that its a issue but... a habit? from working low wages in limsa as a dock worker. he gets the value of it and is fine with sharing what he has when he feels its right.

29. biggest regret? everything with the ascians. it was the best path with what information was in front of him at the time, but learning a guy in the future you had to kill to stop the world from ending or many many dying was a normal guy in the past with his own issues Does Sting. knowing sucks. stop knowing things.

my mom consistently calls my flute a clarinet and then my sisters clarinet a flute to bug us, esp me tho bc shes a bit salty i didnt put my voice to use in choir ( but like silly she doesnt Actually care, she just likes my voice ) and so now its just a Thing we all do JJEKSJSNNS

5. what made you start your blog?

i was actually a writing blog at first !! but prior to that i had planned to open one of those ask <insert characters> blogs w a couple of my friends, however that fell thru when they had a falling out Lol.

WOW this ask looks so broken on mobile for some reason but YAYYY YIPPEEEEE WUNCLE WORLD ^_^ surprisingly fleshed out for a world where literally the only two characters I've been able to think up names for are the titular Wuncle and Earnest.

Wait im gonna put this infodump under a read more. Just in case. Yeah it's a long one.

ANYWAYS it's from a concept I came up with some time last year I think? (GOING BACK AFTER LOOKING UP WHEN I FIRST TALKED ABOUT THEM. IT WAS THIS YEAR. LOL.) Earnest is this miserable kid in the 'real' world whose parents died in a ~MYSTERIOUS INCIDENT~. One day out of nowhere their deadbeat uncle Joe (who they barely remember, hasn't seen him since the death of their parents) yanks them into the MAGIC world where he reveals that he and Earnest's mom come from a super long line of extremely powerful wizards, that Earnest's mom only moved to Boring World to be with the cringe fail love of her life or whatever 🙄, and that Earnest should basically come live with him in his AWESOME WIZARD TOWER instead of the STUPID REAL WORLD so they can study under him to become the next great wizard in the family or whatever.

Instead of being super hyped for this opportunity like Joe THINKS is gonna happen, Earnest is like. 'Dude what the fuck? I barely know you. I don't care about this. Take me back. I miss my Nintendo DS.'

To this Wuncle Joe responds 'ohhhh ummmm actually creating a portal to boringland is incredibly difficult and can only occur like once every ten years when the planets align jussst right so basically you're stuck here anyways 😁👍but don't worry it's cool I'm cool we're cool.' And thus begins Earnest's involuntary apprenticeship 👍

Other characters Wuncle World include:

Wuncles' Familar: Wuncle Joe made a deal with this demon essentially stating that in exchange for his soul (after he dies ((a powerful wizards soul is a rare and tasty treat for a demon))) she works for him and basically does whatever. Basically his assistant. Very silly very goofy VERY VERY EVIL. but cant really do any SUPER evil stuff unless joe says so. At least until he dies :). She's capable of shape-shifting and typical demon stuff but her default form looks like this (old drawings <3) vvv

DRYAD KID: a little ways away from Wuncle's Tower, which is surrounded by a dense and super magical forest, is a secret town of various naturey creatures. Dryads, Nymphs, Satyrs, Pixies etc etc etc. Earnest learns about it through the Dryad Kid, who at first is like 'OH FUCK yes new kid in the forest', then Earnest is like 'yeah I moved into the wizard tower. With my uncle. The wizard.' And the Dryad kid is like. '.........ohhhhh 😬 that guy.'

Dryad Kid acts as Earnest's primary guide to the magical realms as well as their first glimpse into the fact that Wuncle Joe isn't just some deadbeat fool, but a public nuisance at best and a malicious force in the realm at worst. If Earnest isn't busy doing stupid wizard shit with their uncle, chances are they're hanging out with Dryad Kid.

HONORABLE CHARACTER MENTIONS (even less flushed out guys but still important):

KING AND PRINCE: king of the big main kingdom. Wuncle Joe's old boss. Also not a great guy but it's less obvious at first. His son is the prince who acts as like. A rival to Earnest before they both realize they're kind of in similar boats and become friends.

WIZARD COUNCIL: grand council of wizards that controls. Well you know. Wizard stuff. Fate of the world shit. They fucking hate Wuncle Joe. Hardasses but not necessarily evil.

EARNEST 'S MOM: very very very powerful wizard. Clearly had some crazy beef with Joe before she died but most of the specifics are unknown to Earnest until later in the plot.

Overall plot is like. Earnest gradually discovering that Wuncle Joe is actually the primary antagonist of this world. They have to Outwizard and Outscheme him before he can destroy everything basically.

we have a channel called movies24 that plays hallmark movies constantly, but at christmas it used to be rebranded to christmas24 and they just played constant christmas movies and i LOVED it. i dont know if they still rebrand but i know they play constant christmas movies in december

so in the uk we have roast dinners (literally identical to christmas dinners but christmas ones typically are a bit fancier lmao) and to my knowledge scotland definitely has them but similar to how people in texas may have a different thanksgiving dinner to someone in washington (is that a good comparison i have no idea), theres slightly different interpretations and foods! like my family for example would have a christmas cake instead of christmas pudding, or theres this cake with a ring in the middle of it (like a literal jewellery ring) that i cant remember the name of, but people used to have no idea what i was talking about! i feel like that was the longest way of me saying yes she can, but she might have a different concept of one !! also that dinner sounds so nice omg

Eichi mobility aid headcanons! This is all given the concept of him learning to pay attention to his body and work on his internalized ableism, but I think he'd use a manual wheelchair with power assist, probably with a white frame since it matches more of his outfits. His family has a lot of money so they'd also probably get him the extra light wheels so he doesn't have to exert as much energy to push. Power assist will of course also help with pushing and getting around campus on long days. I think he'd probably choose a white frame since it'd match more of his outfits (both regular ones and costumes). Maybe he'd even get different spoke covers to match with the themes of different performances. Speaking of performances! I think he'd have two sets of choreo, one for standing and one with his wheelchair, so that he could be prepared for different energy levels on different days or an unexpected decrease in energy between songs. He'd probably have more standing energy for performances though since I'd imagine he'd use his chair most of the time to save energy. Or maybe he takes advantage of having multiple choreo options and doesn't stress as much about his energy levels on performance days. Also he'd get gloves to match his costumes but a regular neutral pair for daily use.
