I've said to a few people that my ratio of blame for the argument that broke the camel's back is about 80% Yaz and 20% Sammy due to Yaz's attitude about her and Sammy's disagreement over Brooklynn (both sides had completely fair points and valid feelings but Yaz was very unfair in the way she spoke), but I think for their problems in general it's more of an even split where they both have several bad communication habits they need to work on to avoid something like this happening to them again. Yaz
Isn't always honest about how she feels
Decides what she's going to do and just does it with little to no discussion even if it's not what's best for the unit
Can get too stubborn about thinking she's right to the point she trivializes and dismisses feelings she doesn't agree with instead of trying to understand them
Has shown at least two instances of resorting to name-calling and/or other rude remarks when she firmly believes she's right and the other person is wrong (I believe this was largely due to a highly stressed out state of mind in which she was concerned for Brooklynn's safety and lashed out because she was worried the others' reluctance to help her might get her hurt, but it still happened)
Sammy
Isn't always honest about how she feels
Bottles up emotions until she's really, really upset and can't control them
Can be passive aggressive when upset
Doesn't completely respect Yaz's need for space during arguments (gets mad at her for suggesting taking a beat in season one) but expects hers to be respected (gets mad at her for continuing to pursue the conversation in season three)
This is something that, as far as we know as the audience, has been slowly building up over the course of several months to a year, primarily due to a severe delay in honest communication. From what I can gather, ever since Yaz has started trying to recover from her PTSD on her own without Sammy's help, they have stopped telling each other when they have a problem. Yaz most likely did not try to have a real conversation with Sammy about feeling coddled (according to Sammy, there was little to no communication about her moving at all). Sammy most likely did not try to directly tell Yaz how lonely she was after the move (I simply cannot believe that Yaz would not have made more attempts to reach out if it had been plainly laid out for her).
By the time they tell each other their grievances, they're upset and defensive because they've been sitting on their problems for months. They both feel that they have completely valid reasons for what they're doing and they both feel that the other has done something wrong, and they're both right. The lack of honest communication is a mutual problem and the foundation of the majority of their issues. Without this background, I do not believe that they would have broken up over the Brooklynn argument, nor do I think Sammy would have felt as strongly about it because a lot of her feelings toward Brooklynn right now parallel her feelings toward Yaz.
But they have to realize this now. Maybe they could ignore it when they were back to being fine soon after every argument because some threat caused them to come back together without talking about anything. But now it's caused them to break up. They have to know now that something has to change if they're going to make this work again. They're so, so obviously still in love, and with the two groups heading to the same place and them inevitably coming back into proximity with each other, I don't know how long they're going to be able to hold themselves back from approaching each other. They both clearly want to talk. Yaz kept asking for Sammy before leaving Italy. Sammy watched her through the door like she was considering coming outside to say something.
Dysfunctional communication over a long period of time can completely drain a person emotionally, and I completely understand the decision to just walk away from it. But these are two people who love each other deeply, and even at the worst of their problems, want to connect and be together and are devastated by the idea of losing each other. They need to sit with this for a bit. Come to terms with what really caused it to get this bad. And once they do, they'll come back to each other, because they love each other too much to not fight for this relationship. They both have work to do, but they love each other too much not to do it.

Amethyst Haze
Dh!Master x fem!reader
Wc:5.8k
Warnings:rude aunty, awkward family moments, bullying behaviour. Alcohol
Synopsis: the master pays you a surprise visit multiple times <3
A/N: MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
"How about a planet entirely made out of amethyst?" Cocky as ever, The Doctor looked at you and Yaz
excitedly. “I say entirely. Obviously there’s some brick, and stone, and cement. So it’s more seventy-perfect amethyst. But you get the picture.” She carried on, correcting herself slightly. It did sound interesting though, and you guys hadn’t tried a new planet in a while. The girl beside you grinned, folding her arms comfortably.
"Sounds great!" Yaz beamed, glancing at you as you nod in agreement.
"I’ll love it. Purple is my favourite colour." The others looked at you in shock. Surely it was obvious, you had dyed your hair a deep plum colour recently.
"Is it? I wonder if that’s why, oh well. ready?" The doc spoke, pulling down on the lever beside her. Neither of you questioned her half finished statement.
———
As predicted, the planet was extremely beautiful. With soaring towers made from the pretty gem and buildings just the same. Roads of purple brick lined the streets, and even the royal guards donned that colour uniform. How did you know that? Well, apparently, your group were trespassing on an important festivity of the people. They had you locked up the second you were spotted. You hadn’t even been there an hour, only just getting into the city centre. Two guardsmen grabbed you, harshly taking you into the capitol building and down several floors. All three of you were thrown into an absolutely freezing cell, and told you’d be let out once the celebration was over. Once down there, it came as a shock to find you were not the only ones caught out of place. Furthermore, The Doctor looked baffled to find The Master pacing up and down. Now, you and Yaz were watching the timelords arguing. The blonde just couldn't believe that he was there in peace.
"I swear. I have no ill-intent." He sighed, throwing his head back against the wall. The master was across the room from you, leaving a hearty gap. As The Doctor was thinking of a good interrogation strategy, you made eye contact, and you smiled at him genuinely. To your surprise, he returned it. In your many encounters with the renegade timelord, you had honestly never been scared of him. Usually, he just made you laugh, somehow keeping you out of harms way.
"So, if you're not here to steal?" The doctor started, determined to get the truth out.
"Nope." He responded boredly.
"Raise an army?"
"No."
"Take over the Palace?"
"No."
"Kill the royal family?"
"No, Doctor!"
"Then why are you here?"
"To buy a present!" Eyes wide, you all stared at The Master completely shocked. That was unexpected. Smiling to yourself, you pat the empty space next to you. Yaz looked at you in question, but you just shrugged.
"I dont think he's going to kill us. Relax." As you finished talking, The Master hummed and sat beside you. Opposite, The Doctor was watching him like a hawk. Exchanging a look of amusement, yaz sighed before joining her girlfriend.
"You're buying someone a gift?" The blonde asked, unconvinced.
"Yep." He nod casually, eyes scanning the area as if searching for something. Your teeth were beginning to chatter quietly.
"Why here? There's whole planet's dedicated to shopping centres and gift giving." Rolling his eyes, The Master just stared at The Doctor blankly. As if her question was dumb.
"Well, the person I'm buying for really likes a certain colour that’s readily available here on Purpuartica." Sweet, he was clearly very considerate. Maybe he kept that part of him to himself.
"You mean yourself?" Yaz's comment made everyone laugh. Even the man next to you scoffed lightly.
"No. Though I admit, she does have taste." He thought aloud, nodding in approval to no one in particular. As per usually, he was wearing his long tweed, purple coat. With the same colour waistcoat and shirt. More importantly, you noticed.
"Oh, a she?" You teased, hugging your knees tightly. It was getting exceptionally cold in there. Looking at you, he chuckled and gave a short shrug.
"Yes, why?" Grinning, you shivered lightly, trying to block out your environment.
"No reason." The Doctor watched you talking, realisation slowly dawning on her. He was so calm, so collected. Letting herself smile, she folded her arms. Clearly, she wasn’t feeling the cold like you and Yaz were.
"Didn’t take you to settle for anything less than yourself?" Turning to her, The Master sighed bitterly. He should have known she'd figure it out, but there was no need for the insinuated insult.
"She isn’t less than me, and you know that." He shot back, brows raised.
"I know, but think of the age gap!" She mocked his former self, making him roll his eyes. Giving the couple a pointed look, she deflated slightly. Looking out the tiny window, The Doctor frowned as a gust of wind blew in. The walls around the cell frosted over dramatically, and your arms tugged your knees closer to your chest. Giving the air a sonic, The Doctor let out a perturbed noise.
"This isn't good. I hadn't planned to stay this long. It's only going to get colder." Next to her, yaz shook in her spot, cheeks deepening in colour. Instantly, the doc pulled her coat off and wrapped it around her, fastening it up. Yaz moved closer and allowed her girlfriend to hold her close. You watched them sadly, you had never felt more single.
"Are they always this sickly?" The Master asked, shuffling towards you. Looking up at him, you nod.
"Yep. I deserve a medal for biggest third wheel." He laughed, resting his head back against the icy wall. Seeing as the doc and yaz were distracted with each other, you decided it wouldn't hurt; making conversation with The Master.
"You know, you reminded me I need to go gift shopping too." You told him, starting to shiver more violently. He looked you over, brows creasing.
"You do?"
"Well it's nearly Christmas back on earth. Need to finish off my Christmas shopping." It was hard to speak, your lips were going numb. Subtly, The Master inched closer and began to unbutton his jacket.
"You like Christmas?" He asked curiously, getting the last button open.
"I love it. Though, its pretty lonely."
"Small family?" You shook your head, fingers loosing all feeling. Even when you rubbed your hands together, it was useless. Suddenly, an arm wrapped around your waist. You were pulled down into The Masters chest and he wrapped his jacket around your form. Instantly, you were greeted with warmth and sank into his hold. Honestly, you didn't care if The Doctor or yaz could see. If she could be warm, you could be as well.
"No. Just, every year, they continue to ask me why I'm single. Where's my boyfriend. It’s draining and very lonely." You explained, relaxing as the cold thawed out of your veins. Humming, The Master made sure his jacket reached around you properly.
"Sounds it, love." Blushing, you chose to ignore the pet name. Your eyes grew heavy, the cold taking the energy away from you. The Master saw this, bringing his hand up to run through your hair softly.
"Sleep. We'll be here a while longer."
———
"Well then. Why her?" The Doctor asked quietly, not wanting to wake anyone up. Shrugging, The Master continued to thread his fingers through your hair.
"I dont know. Why her?" He shot back, motioning to yaz. Grinning, the blonde let out a laugh. Seems they were stuck in the same situation.
"So, what are you going to do?" She was curious, eyeing your sleeping figure. All he did was tug you in more, sighing to himself.
"Well, I have this plan."
———
Laughter woke you and Yaz a few hours later, your eyes opened slowly. You found The Doctor and The Master cackling not so quietly. Yaz looked at you confused, sitting up.
“Woah, are you two actually getting on?” She asked, cracking her neck slightly.
“Don’t sound too surprised. We grew up together.” Shrugging, The Doctor rubbed her back affectionately.
“That’s really sweet.” You mumbled, staying against The Masters chest. He made no effort to move either of you. It warmed you, more than physically. It felt natural, it felt safe.
“If I’m right, which I usually am, we should be let out soon. Get you both home.” The Doctor told you both as Yazmine handed her coat back. You gazed up at The Master, curious.
“What about you?”
“Well. I have to get this gift.” He smiled down at you, rubbing your side. Noticing your uneasy look, he chuckled and tapped your nose affectionately. “Don’t you worry about me, love.”
———⭐️
About a week later, you were yet again in trouble. You were running like your life depended on it. Because it did. Somehow, The Doctor had landed in a cyberwar space station. Not that you knew exactly who they were fighting, but they were definitely organic, like yourselves. There was a moment in which you’d been spotted, fight or flight kicking in. Now you had been split up and you had been running for what felt like hours. Hearing stomping, you turned your head only to crash into something.
“Woah there.” Relief flooded your veins as you looked up to see The Master. He held your arms and, subsequently, you up. “What are you doing here?” He was baffled to see you, eyes roaming your figure for injuries and such.
“Doctor.” That was all that needed to be said. He sighed, quickly pulling you along the corridor. It seemed he knew the place well, you tilted your head, holding onto his hand easily. “Is this your doing?” You teased, earning a grin from the man.
“It might be.” He started, making you scoff. “But it really was an accident.” The Master took you into what seemed to be a control room, letting you go and messing around with a keypad. A metal door shut behind, a loud click to signal it was locked. Perhaps you should have felt worried, that you were alone with The Master. The man who tried to become The Doctor. The Man that created the “CyberMasters”. Also the same man that kept you out of harms way, who listened to you. No, you felt perfectly content in this situation. You sat yourself on a leather chair that was situated by one of the control panels. “So, the Doctor appears to be stuck two levels from us. And four levels from her blessed Tardis.” He informed you, causing you to sigh in annoyance. That really didn’t surprise you. “Don’t you worry dear. I’ll get her to us, then I’ll get you all away from here.” The Master chuckled, closing his eyes momentarily to ‘contact’ The Doctor. Once he’d done that, he strolled over to you. “So, finished your Christmas shopping?” His casual question caught you off guard, but it was nice to see he remembered.
“Nearly. Just one person left to buy for.” You huffed, thinking about your family back on earth. Noticing your tone, The Master nonchalantly moved you, slipping onto the chair. You found yourself almost in the man’s lap, little space left between you. Instead of complaining, you accepted your fate and leant against him.
“And who is that, you don’t sound particularly happy about it?” He inquired.
“It’s my aunty. We don’t always get on.” You said, wondering if he’d want to know of all your family drama.
“Oh? Why’s that?” It seemed he did. You pursed your lips, not knowing where to begin. There was a lot she had done. Then again, The Master may have just perceived you as dramatic. “That bad?” He commented, seeing as you hadn’t spoken for a moment.
“Yeah, it can be. She’s just really opinionated, and doesn’t like how I dress. Or my job. Or my hair. Or my personality.”
“I don’t think I like your aunt.” He cut in, a small laugh passing your lips. “Have you considered gifting her nothing? It seems that’s exactly what she deserves.”
“I fear that would make Christmas very awkward.” He tut at your response, taking you in fully. Twirling a piece of your hair around his fingers, he spoke again. “I happen to think your hair is very nice.”
“That’s only because it’s purple.” You laughed, not minding the closeness at all. The Master smirked, nodding his head in approval.
“Well of course.” Just then, there was loud banging on the steal door, making you jolt away from the man. Reluctantly, he got up with a grumble, opening the door with the press of a button. “Took you long enough.” He sounded annoyed, though you felt as though it was more about being interrupted. The Doctor came in a hurry with Yaz right behind her. Out of breath, the brunette shook her head.
“She couldn’t follow your instructions. Kept trying to find shortcuts.” Yaz baited her girlfriend out, earning a playful shove.
“Well it felt like he was giving us a longer route!” The Doctor exasperated, arms in the air.
“Why would he do that? To hurt (y/n)?” Yaz worried.
“No!” All three of you said in response to the girls question. She looked around surprised. The Master grunted under his breath, busying himself with finding a way up to the tardis. Smiling, you stood up and looked over his shoulder, watching what he was doing. In the background, you could faintly hear the women still discussing.
“But after everything he’s done?”
“Trust me Yaz, he will not harm her.”
“But how do you-“
“I just know.” You didn’t look back, not minding their conversation at all.
“When is Christmas Day, for you?” The Master, also ignoring the girls, asked you lowly. You thought for a second.
“Just a few days. The Doctor is going to drop me off after we get out of here. Then I’ll have the entire week with my family.” You said with a less than enthusiastic timbre, making the man chortle. It really wasn’t what you were looking forward to, except for seeing your parents of course.
“Would it help if I came alone, I know I could easily fix your problem.” It was a false threat, you knew that. You felt yourself smiling at his suggestion, shaking your head.
“As nice as your company would be, I don’t think hurting my aunt would fix things.” He looked at you, taking in everything you said with a short head bob. “Well then, maybe I’ll just pop in to say hi.” He grinned before turning round. “Right everyone, follow me!” The woman jumped, scurrying to follow you both down a ladder and to the Tardis. The Master helped you down from the ladder, holding your waist and bringing you back to the ground. There was a small blush on your cheeks, unable to meet the man’s eyes. His hand slipped into yours, as he walked along the metallic corridor.
“My tardis!” The Doctor cheered, running to the blue box in a flurry. The Master rolled his eyes, noting that Yaz had gone inside without a second thought. Gazing down at you, he let go of your hand grudgingly.
“Don’t worry, you’ll have a good Christmas. Trust me.” He winked, stirring both confusion and bashfulness inside of you. Giving him a smile, you waved and stepped into The Tardis.
———
The past three days had been tough, to say the least. The first day had been okay. You went to the markets with your parents, getting hot chocolates and wandering the stalls. The second day, the rest of your family arrived, which included your aunt.
“Oh god, what have you done?” Was the very first thing she had said upon seeing you, clearly meaning your hair. Thankfully your mother was there to distract her, but every chance she got, your aunt would make comments. Then, the third day, Christmas Eve, it had been even worse. Your aunt had gotten very drunk at the meal your father had planned. The whole restaurant could hear her yapping on. It was loud and obnoxious spiel, about the worst topics imaginable. Now it was Christmas morning, you were sat in your childhood bedroom, applying your make-up. Part of you felt insecure, even if you originally liked your outfit. An off the shoulder black top, paired with a short, mauve miniskirt and black boots. Looking at yourself in the mirror, you sighed before finishing off with lip stick. In your youth, you’d traditionally open gifts first thing. However your aunt had decided it now had to be done after dinner, for some stupid reason. Either way, you picked up the last of your gifts for the family and brought them downstairs.
“Merry Christmas!” Your mother chimed upon seeing you, handing your uncle a plate of hot food. You smiled, greeting her too. After laying the gifts by the tree, you took a seat on the free arm chair and looked around. Your dad was chatting away with his brother, both eating a hearty fry up. Your mother still in the kitchen, grandparents all sitting at the coffee table.
“Will there be anybody joining you this year, (y/n)?” Your aunt questioned. She had already asked about your relationship status the first day you saw her.
“No.” You gave a short answer.
“Why am I not surprised.” She tut. “Maybe if you weren’t so difficult, then you’d find a suitable husband.” She lectured you, as your mother came in and handed you some breakfast.
“Yeah, I know.”
———
A few hours went by, dinner was still not ready yet and you were already growing tired. You weren’t sure how long you’d last under that woman’s gaze. Her eyes were like fire, burning you with their criticism. She had been ranting about the problems in society for a solid thirty minutes, and you were getting a headache.
“Take (y/n) for example.” She said suddenly, gaining your attention again. “The hair, the clothes and the tattoos, not to mention the jewellery. Her generation has no sense of class. None.” Your aunt peached, but no one really said anything. “Rude too. You never see any of them do anything for us!” A loud knock interrupted her, thankfully. You shot up, reassuring people that you’d see who it was. Even when you entered the hallway, you could hear her gibberish, though it was fading slightly. You really wanted to bang your head against the wall, but the knocking persisted. Pulling open the door, your eyes went wide at what you saw. Stood there, at your door, on Christmas Day, was The Master. His hair was curly, wearing a black shirt, covered by a maroon knitted vest, with a gift bag in hand. Before he could even say a word, you threw your arms around his neck, startling the timelord. He chuckled, bringing you in closer.
“What are you doing here? How did you even find my house?” You asked, pulling back from him with a smile. The Master looked down at you smugly.
“I told you that I’d pop by and say hi, I thought you’d appreciate it.” He really came, you thought as your eyes shone with gratitude. Giggling, you jumped up hugging him once again.
“I’m so happy you’re here.” You mumbled against his shoulder, relaxing when his arms encased you.
“Well, I could sense that you were distressed.” His hand ran along your back bringing you instant comfort. “How is everything going?”
“I don’t know how much more I can take.” You admitted to him, face pressed to his shoulder. The Master tightened his hold on you, letting out a short sigh.
“I’m here now, okay?” He reassured, clearly not liking how down you sounded. For a moment, you could forget about the mess of your extended family. Forget that right behind you, your aunt was probably still waffling on.
“(Y/n)? Who’s this?” Your mother’s voice suddenly brought you back to reality. Reluctantly, you pulled away from The Master and turned to face her. Ever confident, the male gave her a witty smile.
“Ah, I apologise. I’m (y/n)s work colleague, O. I thought I’d just drop off her gift whilst I was around.” He lied smoothly, impressing you. Your mother walked towards you both, smiling warmly at him.
“No problem at all, why don’t you stay for dinner? If you don’t have any other plans of course.” She was quick to ask, mostly for your sake it seemed. Even your mum knew how difficult her sister-in-law was.
“If it’s no trouble?” The Master was a very good actor, feigning his politeness. Shaking her head, your mother responded,
“None at all, come on in. It’s freezing out there.” Ushering him in, you closed the door behind and locked it. The Master looked at you simpering, allowing you to guide him into the living area. Everyone looked up, hearing people re-enter.
“Everyone, this is (y/n)’s work friend, he’s going to be joining us today.” Your mother spoke happily, most of your family nodding along with the news pleasantly. “Dinner will be ready soon, someone get O a drink.” She finished off before disappearing into the kitchen. You looked up at The Master expectantly.
“Oh, what are you drinking?” He questioned, understanding your look.
“Just lemonade, I don’t drink.” You let him know, a little bashful.
“She’s an odd one, isn’t she?” Confused, The Master spun around to find a short, older woman looking up at him. “Everyone needs a tipple at Christmas, don’t you agree?” Your aunt held up her sherry glass as if to prove her point. It didn’t take a genius to realise who the woman was, and The Master gave a chivalrous reaction.
“Oh I’m not a big fan of drinking, bad for the liver you know.” He eyed her, muttering under his breath “and the teeth.” You pressed your lips together having heard him. The Master peered at you, lips twitching slightly. “Just water will be fine, love.” Trying to ignore your slight blush, you got him a glass of cold water and took it into the dining room. Your mother was just finishing setting up cutlery.
“I’ve sat you and your colleague here if that’s alright?” She showed you the two seats, allowing you to put the drink in the right place.
“That’s great, would you like me to get everyone?”
“If you could dear.” Her eyes crinkled at you with appreciation, as she busied herself with putting everyone’s plates down. You returned to the living room, finding your secret alien ‘colleague’ wrapped in conversation with your father. It was a funny sight to see, but somehow, The Master didn’t looked too annoyed. Gathering everyone’s attention, you announced that dinner was ready and everyone soon filed into the dining room. When you went back, you found your mother had spread the food down the centre of the table. In the middle of it all, was the roasted turkey, accompanied by everything you could ever want. Bowls of stuffing and steaming veggies, large jugs of gravy, a tray of pigs in blankets and roast potato’s and carrots. There was also an array of sauces and condiments. You took The Master down the opposite end of the room to where your assigned seats were. He pulled out your chair, helping you sit before sitting himself. Whilst everyone was getting settled, you took the opportunity to talk to him.
“So, anything to say so far?”
“Your house is decorated quite nicely, I must admit.” The Master said, picking up his glass.
“I saw you talking to my dad?” You asked, curious as to what they could have been speaking about.
“Oh I overheard him talking to that man,” he nodded in a certain direction.
“My uncle?”
“Yes him, about the Bermuda Triangle. I had to join the conversation, it’s fascinating to hear what humans think goes on there.” He told you, a small smile appearing on your lips.
“Hm, he is a bit of a conspiracy theorist.” Hearing this seemed to intrigue the man beside you. Finally, your mother took her seat on the other side of you, giving the signal that people could start to plate up their dinner. Your father got to work carving the turkey, serving your grandparents first. You reached over, using the tongs to give yourself a few bits.
“What are those?” Confused, The Master pointed.
“They’re called pigs in blankets. It’s a mini sausage wrapped in streaky bacon. Do you want some?” He bobbed his head in confirmation, watching as you put some on his plate, along with a variety of vegetables too.
“Such a fascinating name.” The master mumbled. Your father had finished his but, placing the carving tools down for someone else to use. To your surprise, The Master was quick to pick them up, carving off some meat and putting it on your plate before his own. Noticing the gravy was in the jugs, you looked around for a moment before excusing yourself. You grabbed a small dip bowl from the kitchen before coming back and putting it to the side of your plate. Seeing how big the jugs were, you frowned a little, carefully pulling one closer to you.
“Do you want me to help?” The Master asked with a grin.
“Please?” You looked at him sheepishly. He immediately did just that, pouring some of the gravy into your little bowl.
“She’s an odd one isn’t she?” Your aunt cackled across the table, causing you both to look at her. Placing the jug down, The Master cocked his head a little.
“Why is that?”
“Well using a bowl like a child, just pour it all over like the rest of us.” She shook her head. The Master spied her plate, seeing it piled high and looking like brown sludge with all the gravy on there.
“I just wanted to dip my food instead.” You tried to explain, but it didn’t matter.
“You don’t have to explain yourself, (y/n). And she doesn’t have to do exactly what you do, either.” The Master said sternly, not looking back at the woman opposite him again. He glanced at you warmly, putting a hand on your knee. He could probably feel how cold you were to the touch. You couldn’t help but smile to yourself, starting to eat your dinner.
“How is everything, O?” Your mother looked over hopefully. The Master offered her a kind look.
“Wonderful, thank you mrs (y/l/n).”
———
Dinner soon finished up, and you helped your mother and nan to clean up. They did shop you off after a few moments however, to which you went back to the living room.
“Ready for gifts?” Your uncle leered, getting all the presents ready.
“I just need to go get one last thing.” You realised, rushing back up to your room, grabbing a bag then heading back down.
“So, O is it?” You heard your aunt speak, stopping just outside the door.
“Yes?” The Master was sat on an arm chair off to the side, right by the fire too.
“You work with (y/n)?” She enquired as your mother was brining in the last of her surprises.
“I do, yes.” He lied, curious as to where this was going.
“Is she as incompetent in work as she is here?” Your aunt looked at him pointedly. It baffled him how she said that with no second thoughts.
“Actually I happen to think she’s exceptionally smart.” The master spoke casually, noticing the look of shock on the older lady’s face. You smiled to yourself outside the door, ready to walk back in.
“So, what are you, her boyfriend?” It seemed that question made everyone grow silent, waiting for his response. Your heart was in your stomach.
“And if I was?” He shot back, clearly unfazed. “I’d be lucky to have a girlfriend like her.” You swallowed hard, cheeks suddenly feeling very warm. The rest of your family began talking again, getting on with whatever it was they were doing. Taking a deep breath, you walked back into the living room trying to seem like you totally hadn’t been listening in. Then you noticed, no seats left. So, you went to sit on the floor by The Masters chair. You really didn’t mind much, plus you’d be warm by the crackling fire. A hand landed on your waist as you went to sit, making you look to your side. The Master guided you onto the chair with him, your legs falling over his lap. No one paid any notice, presents getting passed around the room in a flurry.
“And this one is for you, (y/n)” your father grinned handing you a wrapped box. Taking it, you quickly pulled off the colourful paper, happy to find something you’d been asking for the majority of the year. It was related to a band you enjoyed. Begrudgingly, your aunt thrust a gift into your arms. You forced a smile, opening up the tacky bag and peeking inside.
“Oh wow..” inside, was selection of make up. All different shades of bright eye shadows and lip colours. Ones you wouldn’t dare go anywhere near.
“I thought it could help to make you more appealing.” Your aunt said confidently, whereas you were at a loss for words. The Master tut, taking it off you and putting the bag to the side.
“By making her look like a clown?” He asked, brows furrowed. “Her style suits her perfectly. It’s just not your style.” He continued, shooting daggers at the woman. She huffed in annoyance but chose not to say another word. Your heart warmed at his protectiveness, making you quickly reach down and pick up a small bag.
“For you.” You said, his eyes glazing with bewilderment. The Master took the gift, opening it up carefully. From the bag, he pulled out a snow globe, taking it in for a moment. You really weren’t sure how he’d take the present, perhaps he’d think it was stupid. “I made it myself.” You clarified, trying not to show your anxiety. “I went to this pottery night last week, and I made your tardis in the middle see?” He looked at you with an indescribable look. “It’s where we first met, plus the shack is really cosy. And I made the exterior purple just for you.” Now you were just rambling, filling in the void of silence. The Masters eyes raked over you, considering your form with a tactical eye. Deflating, you looked down at your lap. “You hate it.”
“I love it.” The Master suddenly clarified, tilting your chin up to meet his gaze. His lips curled into a genuine smile, thumb rolling over your cheek soothingly. Leaning in, he left a soft kiss on your head. “I don’t remember the last time someone got me a gift, let alone made me something that held actual meaning.” Relaxing, you beamed up at him, happy that you could in fact, get a positive reaction from him. “Thank you, love.” Again, you blushed, following his movements as he picked up the gift bag he had brought with him. Once he’d pulled out a neatly wrapped gift, he extended the bag to your mother who was stood nearby.
“Oh this is very kind.” She exclaimed, taking out a very extravagant bottle of champagne. Both of your parents were very happy with the gift, all your family ogling the expensive drink.
“This is for you.” The Master said, giving you the wrapped gift. It was only a small box, but intriguing nonetheless. Tearing away the black paper, you found a maroon, velvet box, with a bronze clasp. Slowly, you opened the box and gasped at the sight. Inside, there was a ring, the band made from white gold and lined with tiny purple gems. In the middle, there was an oval amethyst, held in a crescent moon shaped piece of gold. The Master took the ring in one hand, gently holding your hand with the other. He slid the ring onto your index finger, your eyes widening as it automatically adjusted to your size. “Very pretty.” He muttered, making you nod.
“It is.” You agreed, admiring the ring. The Master chuckled, not letting go of your hand.
“I wasn’t referring to the ring, dear.” Your eyes met, a small smirk on his lips. “Do you like it?”
“It’s amazing, I love it. Thank you.” Trying to ignore his casual flirting, your attention fell back to the ring. He chuckled, tugging you closer to his side.
“I told you all I was on that planet for good reasons.” Suddenly remembering that day, your head shot up in a second.
“Me? You were buying the gift for me?”
“You’re wearing it, aren’t you love?” You nod at his question dumbly.
“But why?” You asked perplexed, trying not to get your hopes up too much. The Master hummed, brushing his fingers through your hair.
“Why do you think?” He simply said, not really giving an answer. “I meant what I said, I’d be lucky to have someone like you.” His touches were purposeful. “But I could never-“
“Why not?” You cut him off with a frown. He let out a breath.
“You know who I am, what I’ve done. I’m not worthy of someone like you.” The Master spoke sorrowfully, playing with the ring on your finger. Shaking your head, you replied quickly.
“That isn’t for you to decide.” He raised his brows.
“You treat me so well. You’re protective and dedicated, you found my house and came knowing I needed you.” Taking in your words, The Master shrugged slightly.
“But-“
“But nothing.” You said matter of factly. There was no way he would be winning that argument. “What if I want to be yours?” You mumbled incredulously, casting your eyes down to your lap. Feeling a hand on my cheek, The Master tilted my head back up to meet his gaze. He was smiling.
“You already have me, doll. I thought you knew that?” He grinned, my eyes lighting up in a second. “And if your family want here. I’d prove that to you.” The Master spoke in a hushed voice, your cheeks shining colour instantly. He chuckled, pulling you impossibly closer.
“If you two are done flirting, there’s more gifts to be shared over here!” Your uncle interrupted, making everyone in the room laugh. Even though you were blushing, you rolled your eyes and began paying attention to your surroundings. Everyone was in a joyous mood, even your aunt. Perhaps it was the sherry, but either way you were grateful. Leaning back into The Masters chest, you sighed contently as his arms wrapped around your waist. Surely, it would be a slight shock to The Doctor, but you couldn’t find it in you to care. His lips pressed to your head tenderly.
“Merry Christmas, love.”

So, obviously, Brooklynn’s “death” was DEVASTATING for the others, and while they’re all going to be thrilled that she’s alive, I think it’s safe to say that there will be some conflicted feelings about it. So, who is going to be the person who immediately shrugs, says “makes sense”, and moves on, and who’s going to stew on it for an entire season? Well, here’s what I think, in ascending order of rage:
1: Ben. Ben is immediately going to shrug, say “makes sense”, and move on. Not only would he be a bit of a hypocrite if not, but the Dark Jurassic conspiracy theory stuff will make him very receptive to the idea of someone faking their death. The man has been eating out of a boot.
2. Yaz. I think Yaz’s pragmatism will make it so that she is able to see why Brooklynn did it (depending on why she did it I guess) faster than the others. It’s not that she doesn’t care about Brooklynn and wasn’t upset when she died, but I think Brooklynn’s death hasn’t changed her life or her approach towards life in the same way that it has for the other three.
3. Kenji. 3 and 4 are interchangeable I guess, but I kind of want Sammy as second to last. I think Kenji will take a bit longer, but he’ll come around eventually. I do feel like everything that has happened has really shattered his trust in Brooklynn, so getting that back will be harder than forgiveness. Ultimately though, I think Kenji’s relief that she’s still alive and he hasn’t lost another person will overtake everything else.
4. Sammy. I really want Sammy to take a while, although it would probably in the show be more focused on Kenji and Darius. Sammy is someone who cares so, so deeply about her friends. The idea that someone who she loves so much would willingly hurt her as much as Brooklynn has done??? Inexcusable. Sammy is going to be PISSED, because the campers are FAMILY and you don’t DO that to FAMILY. The only person whose worldview and entire existence was affected more than Sammy was…
5. Darius. Of course. Idk, if Darius isn’t pissed at Brooklynn I’M going to be pissed. Darius fell to PIECES after Brooklynn died. This man was calling his dead friend’s phone to tell her about the DINOSAUR HUNT he was embarking on after QUITTING HIS JOB to GET REVENGE on a DINOSAUR. Darius stopped talking to his family, had a huge falling out with Kenji, and isolated himself from everyone in his life except for the ghost of Brooklynn in an attempt to alleviate the guilt and somehow fix her death and she was ALIVE THE WHOLE TIME??? I want Darius to be SO angry. I want it to go on for much, much longer than everyone else in the group. I want to have everyone trying to convince him to go easy on her and he can’t. He won’t. I want ALL the drama. I want Darius and Brooklynn to be FURIOUS with each other and then kiss about it
#to clarify I don’t think brooklynn deserves most of that#maybe some#but she’s been through a lot too#i just feel like it’ll be weird if they’re all okay with her immediately#i think it’s kind of fair to get mad at someone who makes you think your friend is dead#even if that someone is that friend#camp cretaceous#jwcc#chaos theory#chaos theory spoilers#mine#dinostar

Sammy: "I think we should split up"
Ben: " *gasp* you and Yaz??"
Sammy: "What- No! I meant us, the three of us.... Why, did she say something?"
IT'S THE "Why, did she say something?" THAT IS LIKE MAKING ME SCREAM AND SHAKE. THE FACT THAT THEY EVEN THOUGHT ABOUT THEM BREAKING UP, THAT THEY HAD IT IN MIND AT ALL. IT'S SO COOL AND YET SO SAD.
I'm having mixed emotions. It's hard when you love angst while you also love a couple. Because obviously yasammy needs to be endgame, but I want them to be jealous (show us jealousy when Sam or Yaz talks to another girl/boy that isn't the camp members), suspect cheating, etc etc. Cuz that's FUNNNNN. But nothing so serious that they break up, cuz that would break me into a million pieces.

having so many thoughts about Yaz and her sexuality/coming out to Ben so here are some thoughts
- Yaz says she’s had crushes on boys before, but that is a very short list of maybe like 2-3 boys. she has a fairly high standard for tolerating anyone and is a bit of a loner at school, so there aren’t many boys she’s really had the chance to crush on
- of those that she has crushed on, she’s never really done anything about it. she was always under the impression that crushes were just things people get and you’re supposed to enjoy them, but not really act on them because you’re too preoccupied with other things (namely track) to make anything out of it. obviously, Yaz was the only person to feel this way about crushes
- she has different taste in guys than she does girls, in that she really likes guys who can keep up with her emotionally and athletically. otherwise, there’s always this imbalance boys get weird about if she’s tougher or faster than them, plus she just finds it easier to interact with athletic boys than non-athletes.
- she’s still not sure what her type of girl is other than Sammy, but she knows for sure it isn’t Brooklyn since, while she’s her friend, she could never see herself dating her.
- there are three reasons she was so eager to tell Sammy about how she felt. 1) usually, crushes just got in the way of her busy life, but on dinosaur island and under the impression she probably wouldn’t go back to track after escaping the island, she can finally actually go for it. 2) she’s never had a crush on a girl before and really wants to know what it’s like to be open about it and have a relationship with a girl. it’s a new kind of thrill she really wants to explore, especially because… 3) it’s Sammy. Sammy’s more than just a crush. she’s Yaz’s best friend, and Yaz knows her feelings are a lot stronger than just a little crush, and so she trusts Sammy to keep loving her, even if it’s not the same way Yaz wants her to
anyways, those are my thoughts !! anyone want me to share any other Camp Fam thoughts and headcanons?

How to the daemon’s interact with each other (I am living for this idea? BTW)
Hello!!!!! Okay, I have thought a lot about the differences between human daemons and Time Lord daemons!!! This post got very long so everything is below the read more :)
For Yaz and all other Earth humans, I’m just giving them the same rules as Lyra’s world from the HDM books. So, no touching other people’s daemons, and daemons mostly talk to each other rather than other humans.
However! For Time Lords!!!! Okay so obviously Time Lord society is very strict and rigid, and I reckon their own rules around daemons would be even more-so. Like, maybe you don’t even touch your own daemon in public unless absolutely necessary (for example small daemons who are safer travelling on your person)? I could also imagine them having a “daemons are to be seen but not heard” rule.
Though, given Time Lord’s extended lifetimes, I can also see their daemons becoming even more of their own self? Like the daemon remains a reflection of their person, but becomes something more than that as well? Having their own desires and such.
I wouldn’t be surprised if someone in Time Lord society had tried to cut out their daemon similar to how Mrs Coulter did in the series, perhaps Tecteun even tried to do this with The Doctor’s past regenerations? Daemons could definitely be something that much of Time Lord society is ashamed of.
However, The Doctor and The Master are not at all like the rest of the Time Lords sksksks!!!! I imagine they both break the rules young, at first in secret and then as they both grow older they might even use their breaking of the rules to scare others? I imagine Theta/The Doctor wouldn’t have done this out of malice, but rather out of frustration for the rules and shame around daemons. Koschei/The Master would have done it out of malice lmao.
I think, specifically between the two of them, they’re just very used to touching each other’s daemons. When they were in the Academy they would probably end up sharing the same bed a lot of nights when they both had nightmares, thus snuggling up with each other’s daemons. Whenever they meet up again in the future, even if they claim to be enemies, their daemons will seek out the other. I reckon UNIT becomes accustomed to seeing Three walk around with Delgado!Master’s daemon and vice versa.
For the sakes of my AU, I named The Doctor’s daemon Asa and The Master’s Epiphany. I think Asa and Epiphany would be a perfect mirror of The Doctor and The Master’s inner desires in regard to each other. The two of them would often launch at each other and start fighting without warning, and horrified human onlookers would realise that the Time Lords are barely taking notice - as though the pain from their daemons attacking each other isn’t there. The pain definitely IS there, but they’ve both become so used to the sensations that it’s almost a source of comfort??
I can also see them just strait up grabbing each other’s daemons (especially 13 sksks, I imagine her picking up Dhawan!Master’s tayra daemon around the scruff of her neck) when trying to get the other to stay.
This doesn’t work though, because Time Lords definitely have a stretched bond with their daemons so they can be hundreds of miles apart without pain (though I reckon this would be closer to Mrs Coulter’s bond with her daemon, rather than the Witches’ bonds with theirs).
Hmm, I think that’s all I have for now, but please feel free to ask anymore questions i will be SO happy to answer them.
#this post got longggg#first time I have actually written a lot of this out#it’s usually just in my head haha#daemon au#13th doctor#dhawan!master#doctor who#doctor who au

Rogue
Oh wow, I have some complex feelings to work through with this one. Up front, really fun idea and very funny script and performances. There were quite a few moments that had me laughing out loud (the shed, the OK exchange) and I love the whole set up of these aliens who want to cosplay as humans in the regency era. It also connects nicely with Rogue's love of DND. I feel like I might have missed something when they seemed to know that the Duchess was a Chuldur, but I'll see if I catch that on rewatch or not.
As always, I adore Ncuti here. He's so funny and charming as the Doctor, but I particularly loved that we got to see his darker side here. It was only a glimpse, but that line about 600 years being a long time to suffer was quite chilling and very reminiscent of the "he was being kind" speech from Family of Blood. Indeed, it is quite a ruthless end for the Chuldur! They're sent to a random "barren" different dimension! It reminds me quite a bit of the relocation gun from Rosa and how much it was shown to be one of the worst things you could do to someone (and Ryan uses it on the white supremacist guy). Brutal!
Ruby and the Doctor didn't get to spend much time together this episode, which is a shame because we haven't seen all that much of them together for three episodes in a row now. I can't help but think it's a sad consequence of the tiny episode run that we barely get to see this Doctor and companion interact, so although I loved the Doctor calling her his best friend, and I especially loved her giving him a hug at the end and making him deal with his emotions, I don't feel that connection as much as I'd like to. Equally, when he's devastated to think she's been killed, it would have hit so much harder if we'd seen them build up a real relationship. They have a lot of natural chemistry, so you still very much believe them as best friends, but it feels like we're missing a bit of the depth there.
Okay, now, the romance! I was quite apprehensive about this one because it looked like there might be something going on between the Doctor and Rogue, and that was further fueled by a comment Millie Gibson made in an interview about this episode showing a different side of the Doctor. The reason that made me apprehensive is entirely down to my personal preference, which is that I like it when the Doctor is more a-spec. As it turned out, this episode managed to be both better and worse than I worried. Better in that it was beautifully acted, had fantastic chemistry, and I loved the scandalous gay dancing (very reminiscent of the Torchwood episode Captain Jack Harkness). Worse in that it wasn't just something happening to the Doctor, that he's swept up in, but instead something he's actively pursuing.
Again, this is entirely down to my personal preference for the Doctor's characterisation, but the way that this pushes further than other instances of romance/kissing/etc. upsets me a little. It reminded me somewhat of The Girl in the Fireplace in places - inviting him to see the stars; the tragic ending - but the difference with that one is that she kisses him. I don't know, it's a relatively small distinction but one that matters to me. The Doctor has had romances before, and the more overt they are the more I dislike them (eg. all the River Song stuff), and nowhere has the Doctor more actively flirted with someone new, expressed attraction to them numerous times and deliberately kissed them than here.
On the other hand, it's very gay and I have to like it at least a little for that. It gives us a more obviously queer Doctor than Thirteen and Yaz and they had a whole arc! (Not to bash Thirteen and Yaz; I actually quite liked how that went down in the end, but again that's due to my preference for an a-spec Doctor, which jived very nicely with Thasmin.) Obviously, this doesn't invalidate any readings of the Doctor as aro and/or ace, especially as that can mean many different things, but it messes with my personal view of the Doctor's sexuality, and how I prefer them to be portrayed. For me, if the Doctor is going to participate in sex or romance, I'd rather it be understated and uncertain or unintended from the Doctor's end. Now I know what to expect from this one, I may become desensitized to it with time and enjoy it more for its merits. Still, I can't change the fact that it's just fundamentally not what I want from Doctor Who the character.
Misc
I love that the battle mode for the earrings came back. I wondered if it would when it was first mentioned, then promptly forgot about it entirely.
The comparisons between Rogue and Captain Jack Harkness are obviously numerous, and it's very funny to me that Jack would definitely be pissed off that he lost out on kissing the Doctor like that to someone who was basically a carbon copy of him.
More singing, since people are taking note of that. Love a bit of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory!
I was cringing a bit while the Doctor was dancing to Kylie, but also glad he got to do that after the Master has had several camp pop dancing moments.
Speaking of Kylie, I wonder if the Doctor has ever noticed her uncanny resemblance to Astrid Peth.
We got a nice little flashback with Carla telling him to keep Ruby safe as well, which reminded me a lot of Jackie.
The faces of the Doctor's various incarnations looked a little strange. I couldn't actually tell who some of them were meant to be. Am I crazy or was one of them Richard E Grant, like from Scream of the Shalka (and the Great Intelligence)?
I said this already in another post, but it was dedicated to William Russell and I criiiiiied!
#doctor who#rogue#doctor who spoilers#mine#dwmine#dw#dwe15#this is actually quite similar to my initial reaction to the ending of good omens s2 I'm realising#those are two other characters I read as ace#and yes that reading's still technically valid but it's changed somewhat by the kiss#and I came round to that so there you go#but the doctor is different... anywhoo#I got over river song even if I still don't like her#I'll be fine lol#and I'm not gonna lie and pretend him putting the ring on at the end didn't absolutely get me#because it did#also yes I called him doctor who at the end there#I enjoy doing that from time to time#it would have annoyed 15 year old me so much lol#reactions

So I've finished the 13th Doctor's seasons and I was really worried starting out because I've heard a lot of people say the writing is shitty. But now that I'm done... I don't really have anything to be angry at tbh. Like I'm not an expert reviewer so I don't know, it probably is more egregiously bad than I think it is but it just feels like... Nothing. Only like a couple of the episodes have left big impressions on me. A lot of them are just fucking boring and it really comes down to the fact that the characters are so fucking dull.
I saw one person say "they just split one personality four ways with Graham getting most of it" which I think perfectly describes my feelings towards them. Ryan and Yaz have virtually nothing to their characters except for some factors that are barely addressed like Ryan's dyspraxia and issues with his father and Yaz's crush on the Doctor. Like hell even fucking Dan feels like more of a character than them somehow.
And the Doctor herself... Obviously I'm not blaming Jodie Whittaker, she did really well with what she was given, but to me at least she just feels like a toned down version of the 11th Doctor. And like I'm just really disappointed because I was kinda excited to see her Doctor because I had heard that the writers intentionally wrote her as autistic which I thought would be interesting since all the other Doctors were just accidentally written that way. And I can see the seeds of some interesting plotlines. Like they use the Timeless Child plotline as a sort of explanation for why she was and always felt so different from other people of her species and essentially why she acts so autistic. They could've used this as an opportunity to really analyze her behavior and you know create some allegories for neurodivergence or just have her companions explicitly acknowledge how the way she acts aligns with autism. But no they don't do that and obviously a big part of all this writing is the fact that they have a shorter amount of episodes but they don't know how to properly use that time. They mention how the Doctor is socially awkward and doesn't really know who she is anymore but they don't properly delve into her psyche like in previous iterations. And this is because again they have three companions so they have to give all of them something to do but again because there are three of them neither of them can get a great deal of focus either and just ugh.
Like the Doctor should've just had Graham, and maybe his wife Grace who I'm still kinda disappointed they killed off in the first freaking episode, as a companion. Because pretty much all of the Doctor's companions have been women in their early twenties and I think it would've been interesting to switch things up like this. Also again with Grace I feel like it would've been more impactful if we had gotten a full season or even half a season with her before she died. Oh and I would've liked for Graham's cancer to play more of a role with it maybe coming back and him going on constant adventures with the Doctor and trying to do as much as he can before he dies. It would've been really interesting to see a companion die of something completely normal yet unavoidable after having survived all of these dangerous adventures. It would've been really sad to see the Doctor just trying to keep it all together and make Graham happy when she can't do anything about him slowly dying in front of her.
Overall the 13th Doctor's seasons were just full of missed opportunities and it's incredibly saddening.

I really don’t understand the complaints that the 13th doctor is always happy. Like I’ve seen season 11, 12 and a bit of 13 three times, and there are plenty of times she isn’t, especially in season 12 and 13 but even as early as s11 ep2 she gets hopeless when the tardis doesn’t appear, in ep3 she is upset that they have to sit by and not help Rosa, in ep 4 dhe gets annoyed at the ceo,
in 8 she gets upset at the king and his sexism, and upset at the “witch” killings, in 9 she gets pissed off at the kid’s dad, in 10 she’s angry at the icy dude, and resolution (which I’ll admit I’ve only watched twice because it’s so boring) she’s not too happy about Ryan’s dad, and obviously not happy about the dalek
I definitely think she could’ve had more moments of anger and frustration and anxiety and should’ve gotten at least one scene to be absolute terrifying to a villain (preferably one who fucked with yaz) but I’m not really upset at how she’s portrayed. I don’t like misery for misery’s sake, and don’t think she would’ve benefited from being angry or upset unnecessarily.
And that’s not even mentioning season 12 and 13 where she very much so IS angry and upset, she tells a guy that people like him are why she questions spending energy on the human race, yells at what I take to be time gods (idk if that’s actually what they are) to let her have more of her past, she’s shitty to yaz, and all of it -minus being shitty to yaz- is honestly fair
I think this became rambley, wouldn’t be the first time

hi i think your fics are very cool! idk if its too early to send this but for the hurt/comfort prompts, could i request something with the master and yaz in the swap au?
hello anon i love you forever for this. fic be upon thee.
There's a question Yaz got asked a lot in the weeks after she ran away and came home.
Do you feel you are a danger to yourself or others?
So she knows, intimately, that it's a question meant to be lied to. The answer is always no, if you want help, if you don't want to scare anyone, if you want to be treated as a person.
She imagines asking the Doctor, "Are you a danger to yourself or others?"
And she imagines how easily he would lie, "No, Yaz, I wouldn't hurt a fly."
The Doctor hisses sharp under his breath as he snaps his hand away from the console. She knows he's cursing at the TARDIS, whether she understands the language he's using or not.
"Shocked you again?" Yaz says, and the Doctor jumps from her, hand on his laser screwdriver faster than she can blink. Her feet move faster than her head, stumbling back behind the safety of one of the arching columns. She doesn't hear the sizzling energy of him shooting at her. Graham's had closer calls than that. She lets out a breath, her heart racing, and peeks back around the column. The Doctor's eyes are dark and sharp, darting around where she'd been until he finally spots her and the screwdriver falls slowly to his side. "Sorry. I thought you knew I was there."
"I should put bells on all three of you," he mutters. His gaze tilts back to the console, eyes narrowing, and he pounces on the controls like he can take them by surprise. They visibly spark under his hand. He stumbles back, yelling in pain as the TARDIS ignores him, and Yaz darts forward to grab him by the shoulder. Fresh burns curl around his palms. He jerks under her grip like he's going to try a third time, but she keeps him still until his head snaps towards her, lip curled around her name, "Yasmin!"
"You want to keep having a domestic with your ship, or do you want to do something about this?" She gestures at his hands, careful not to brush them. He looks long and hard at the TARDIS console before relenting, though he pulls himself free to march his way down the hallway. Yaz follows, in time to reach the medical room a few seconds after him and stop him from grabbing things himself. "No, just tell me what you need, and I'll get it." She's familiar enough with this place. His bedside manner might be terrible, but he's patched the three of them back up before. She tries not to think about how many times he's had to, but they all came out of it fine, in the end. She barely even still gets little twinges in her stomach where she was gutted once. "Let me doctor you, Doctor."
She expects a smile, at least. She gets one, but the moment between lingers too long.
"Fine," he says. "Those two bottles and some bandages. I don't want to have to look at it." The bottles click against each other in Yaz's hand.
"Squeamish?" she asks.
"Bad memories," he says, darkly.
She could push. She could keep asking.
She doesn't.
"This might sting," Yaz says, less because she knows it will and more because she has a little sister and that's the sort of thing you're meant to say when you're about to rub ointment on a wound to keep someone from squirming. The Doctor's palms are blistering, the worst of it charred black. She doesn't flinch from the sight. She rests the back of his hand in hers as she spreads the ointment out across his palm in even strokes, covering every inch of the burns. She coats his fingers in it gently, working her way up and between them.
The Doctor isn't looking at his burns. He's looking at her. She keeps her head down and her gaze fixed. Her cheeks can't be burning as obviously as they feel like they are.
"You'd think with all the times it's attacked you or thrown us off-course, you'd find another ship." Yaz lifts his other hand in hers. He's always warmer than her, and that's harder to ignore when she has to keep touching him. She tries to focus on the burns, the way they disrupt the soft skin of his palms. Softly, she thinks she can feel his heartbeats through the back of his wrist. "Unless it's unique. You never said."
"She is," he answers before directing the next few words at the ceiling, "or else I would have scrapped her!"
The TARDIS does not respond.
"Yeah, that's… probably why it tries to kill you," Yaz says. The Doctor scoffs, but it rounds around a smile. She's not sure if she put it there or if he just feels like surviving his own ship's murder attempts is a victory.
"She belonged to my friend," he says after a few minutes, as Yaz is wiping her hands clean to bandage him up. The burns are fading before Yaz's eyes, but he asked her to cover them up and she does. She winds the bandage around his palm again and again. "You would have been so impressed with him." Yaz isn't sure she's ever heard the Doctor sound that way, entirely unadulterated affection. She's so used to every word out of his mouth feeling like it might bite someone.
"Where is he?" Yaz dares to ask. It's a poor decision. The Doctor's soft expression slams shut.
"Dead. Exactly how he wanted to be. Fighting a good fight far away from me." He takes his hands away from Yaz. For a moment, he admires her handiwork. Yaz holds her breath, waiting. She feels ridiculous for doing so, and yet. "Thank you." He says it like it hurts to get out of his throat, and she hoards it close to her chest all the more for that.
"Maybe leave the ship be for tonight?" Yaz says. "You could… stay for dinner?"
"No," he dismisses. "She'll learn to obey me, whether she wants to or not." With that, he stalks out of the room. Yaz sighs quietly, but that's about what she expected.

Sometimes, I find myself thinking about if Sephiroth had the Remnants as his from the age of smol and he just. Raised them while still working for ShinRa with Genesis and Angeal. (º̷̵̤᷆ ㅡ º̷̵̤̅ ❀)
Loz would be widely accepted, so eager and sweet, very expressive and thinking aloud as he does things. When with AGS in training their subordinates he'd have no problem asking for tips from anyone of any rank and giving his own, cheering on soldiers during spars and exclaiming how cool someone was with a happy grin. He would often helpfully run errands for people with a smile on his face, too, helping pick up papers and etc. The various secretaries adore him, the Soldier's often look at him like a younger sibling, infantry indulge him in doing drills with them, etc. Sunne Childe.
Yaz would absolutely be a vent gremlin, but also the one who always knows where his brothers are and what they're doing. Always. He'd be the one none would realize is in the room until you hear him sip his smoothie, just watching with curious eyes, giving quiet hum and small smile in greeting. He's helpful in his own way, polite, but more introverted. Still, he can be sassy and has no trouble calling someone out when they've crossed him. AGS have found him "playing" with the newbie Turks on more than one occasion. Quiet Childe.
Kadaj would be an adorable menace, much like a kitten with spurts of hyperness and then being silent and shy. He'd be seen nyooming down the halls laughing wildly and then ten minutes later quietly hiding behind one of AGS's leg, clutching their coat as they speaks with other people. He has the most attitude of all three, however, and it shows when he thinks someone is an idiot. He has manners, ofc, but he just finds stupid people beneath his effort of using them correctly. Wilde Childe.
They would be known through the company, many noting how well mannered and polite they are (by people who have never stayed for long on the Soldier Floor, where the three are most comfortable outside of home). Of course, the three would obviously have their own favorite people, but could also be seen walking along like their own miniature unit or trailing one of AGS like small, silver-haired ducklings.
One thing I for sure am uncertain on is to the relationships, when I think about this. What is Sephiroth's relationship with the trio? Guardians for certain, but sibling or parental? And what of AGS? Platonic, romantic, something else?
Hnnnng... (❀ ᵕ̴᷄ ‸ ᵕ̴᷅) I can't decide!

Watching some pre-season two interviews, it honestly feels like Kausar and Raini have been teasing the current Yasammy arc for a while now. This interview here is from last year's San Diego Comic Con, about seven months after writing for the whole show was finished, so they had likely already recorded or at least seen their lines up to season four.
youtube
There's a lot of talk about Yaz and Sammy figuring out what their future together might look like, figuring out who they are and how to approach their relationship outside the context of a trauma bond, and the importance of showcasing that long term relationships can have their high points and their low points.
And they probably got away with this because it would be taken in the context of the season one argument, but to be honest, two out of three of these have yet to be seen. We saw one of their lower points in season one for sure, but we still haven't seen them get the opportunity to focus on themselves or their relationship pretty much since that argument. They haven't discussed what their future together might look like, and they haven't had an opportunity to separate themselves and each other from the circumstances enough to really think about "okay, what about just you and me, what are WE doing, where are we going after this, how do we maintain this when we don't need each other to survive?"
And in another interview (which I'll link if I can find it again), Kausar talked about being excited for the exploration of Yaz's healing and how it's not linear and she'll have moments of uncertainty and not knowing how to handle things and "when she sees a friend going through something, how to not project something onto them". She also explicitly said she was excited for "the messiness of it". While a bit of this can definitely be applied to Yaz getting overwhelmed playing therapist in season two, that lasts for all of three seconds. Season two then gets an absolutely GOLDEN opportunity in All Night Long to tackle Yaz's trauma and where she's at with it, and it just doesn't. Yaz doesn't get to be messy in season two. Her journey of healing gets very little focus in season two.
This leads me to believe that Kausar was talking about later seasons. Yaz is HELLA messy in season three, and I do think it comes from a place of projection. She projects how she feels about Brooklynn onto Sammy and can't handle it when that doesn't match up with how Sammy actually feels. There even seems to be a bit of projecting onto Brooklynn, with her whole "well she reached out a little bit and even though she gave us nothing of substance it still means something", because Yaz has been there. She knows what it's like to have a "not enough" response be all she can give at the moment, and she won't fault Brooklynn for it because she spent a long time doing that with Sammy. She doesn't see it as a rejection because it never was when she did it, regardless of how it feels to everyone else or even how Brooklynn actually meant it.
In season four, she's probably going to have to reflect on this behavior, and it'll probably play a huge role in her patching things up with Sammy.
And even with all this talk about how the relationship can be messy and complicated and how it's not easy, Kausar and Raini still talk a fair amount about Yaz and Sammy being a good love story. Kausar describes them in one video as "a couple that is truly meant to be together". She also describes their relationship as "a really strong and special one". Raini talks a lot in the above interview about how natural their relationship is.
I think we're in for a real treat in season four. Them figuring out what their future looks like together. Figuring out how to approach their relationship when being in danger isn't enough to force them through their low points. Actually getting on the same page about what they want and need, because while they both clearly want to be together, there's obviously a disconnect. Raini talked in another interview about how Sammy doesn't really understand why she couldn't be a part of Yaz's healing journey. And Yaz clearly doesn't understand how making that decision without a proper explanation and reaffirming to Sammy that she wasn't really leaving her behind was extremely harmful. This is their lowest low, but high points are mentioned as much as low ones. It's darkest just before dawn.
Honestly, I'm just glad they're finally getting some focus. Season two was cute with all the little moments, but they were little, usually blink-and-you'll-miss-it background things. Nothing was really about them in that season. Now they get this whole arc to themselves, and while it does intersect with other things like Brooklynn and Sammy's family situation, it's still largely about them.
I have literally never been more confident in a season giving me great Yasammy moments, because this time it genuinely has to. The narrative chose to start this whole plot thread of them finally starting to acknowledge the things that they need to, and there's nowhere else to go with it other than finally unpacking those things and coming to understand each other better. They love each other so, so deeply. They're both going to want to find a solution, and when they do, they'll be able to be together in a much healthier and more comfortable way.
(Also side note, Kausar says here that no one knew at first that these two would be a couple, and so did Scott Kreamer in a recent interview, so I'm not sure what that's about with the whole "they were planned from the very beginning" that supposedly Kausar said at some point but I can't find a source. Maybe someone made that up, or maybe it was supposed to mean that by the time they were writing actual scripts for season one they knew what they wanted to do with them. I have no idea.)

First time watching the 13th doctor Thoughts
First off, this is my first time getting 'not my doctor' syndrome. I think this may be because all the other doctors were already doctors when I started watching Doctor Who.
(While all of capaldi's seasons weren't out then, I was aware going into the fandom that he was one of the doctors. I also watched all the seasons near consecutively during summer break, so I never had time to be like. Noo I want to watch the last doctor. Because I just wanted to watch more doctor who.)
But this time it was different. I was looking at a lady I knew as an actor (from Chibnall's other work, Broadchurch (my beloved!)) and from her cover of Yellow, of all things.
Perhaps more importantly, I came in knowing many people didn't like her seasons. Which is weird.
Like, it is a weird experience going into a show you love being like. Ok so is it as bad as people say.
I have experience in this. I watched supernatural. (of course) And I was a bit behind on the show, always a handful of seasons behind, so I knew I was heading nowhere good. But with supernatural, you never know when it gets bad (expect the last episode. I know that one is ass). The best episodes are in the worst seasons and the worst seasons sometimes have the best ideas and its a mess. But people (on twitter, especially) gave me this idea that 13's seasons were all worse quality.
It really wasn't.
Now I'm only on season 1, and the timeless child arch is still to come, which I fear as I don't like the concept from what I've heard (i really like the idea of the doctor as just some person fumbling around, hence why I like 12 better than 11). But for now. It's a pretty good show.
The episodes feel very rewatchable to me.
Compared to the much more interconnected stories going on in 11 and 12's run, every episode of season 11 could be watched alone with little explanation. Not that that is better or worse, but it means I can def go back and pick a random episode to rewatch whenever I need.
And It is fun!
Almost every episode in this season was super fun! Obviously they had some more emotionally charged ones ('demons of punjab', 'the battle of ranskoor av kolos' (the finale), and maybe a bit of 'It Take You Away') but overall there were a lot of really fun moments and sites and it was somewhat whimsical at times but not in the same way as 11. The peak example being Kerblam!
The characters were also what made it so fun.
They're a jolly little crew of fellas traveling through space togather. No one feels like the 'main character' (ok Ryan sort of does. Because he started off the show you know, Rose style?). So far, it is Yasmin who feels like the tack on.
Which is funny because the only companion I've heard about at length is Yaz and how great she is and so far I am like, oh yeah, she had a few episodes (Arachnids in the UK and Demons of Punjab). Like I don't really care about her yet. I don't feel connected with her.
You know who I do feel connected/invested in. MY OLD MAN. GRAHAM CRACKER. (not cus he's white, it's a brand guys). i love this old man. I feel for him. I wanted his revenge when he wanted his revenge. I was so happy for him when he was happy that Ryan called him gramps (or whatever he called him). Like I was literally giggling cus he was happy over it and that made me happy cus I was emotionally invested in him!
I liked the idea of Graham before I watched this season actually, due to a reddit post where someone was like, best crossover would be three old men (the 12th doctor and graham and wilf) running around for an episode. And I was like, omg that is an amazing idea.
Okay I need a whole post for the Fam and how I actually love having a little crew in the tardis. Next post it is.

okay so i’m still scribbling down ideas and i’m kinda stoned and idk if i’ll ever manage to write this cos i have never rlly written anything like this (literally anything i’ve never written for one of these fandoms i’ve never finished a multi chap plotted fic i’ve never written an in-depth au like idk if i even could do this) but the other day my brain decided WOULDN’T IT BE COOL if Kingsman and UNIT were the same people. (and honestly MIB: International a bit too) but like. Kingsman Doctor Who AU. that’s mostly focused on osgate.
for whatever reason, the code name Arthur isn’t used and is instead replaced with The Doctor. why, idk. there doesn’t need to be a reason. just, when the doctor, the brig, and liz shaw all started this, he decided his code name was The Doctor and it’s been that way since
also the plot was: three different stories, spanning a couple different time periods.
first story (kingsman: the secret service) is very much just stolen ideas from what i know of the Cyber-Reality Big Finish stories. which admittedly about 80% of that (i did start listening to them. finally) is because of @technicallywrite’s fanfic 🫡 but i promise i am doing my research. but anyway like that cyber program instead of valentine’s program??? osgood thinking kate’s dead for like half the story adds some fun to it and i could add kate’s pov w whatever’s happening to her OR i could just. go off from Kingsman and do it closer to Big Finish and just call it good.
ideally: harry = kate; eggsy = osgood; arthur = 12th doctor; merlin = river
considering replacing jakobi!master w gomez!master for some extra fun? like it just could be fun is all.
also: focus is osgate but there is background stuff going on. 12/River/Missy ???? do some fun little twists get them all together i think they deserve it. also other knights/agents would be (possibly.) amy, rory, clara, rose, yaz, donna, martha, bill, sam, josh, gwen, ianto, maybe jack? not as important characters literally just names to fill in blanks. i have code names for them too just in case it’s needed as well as ships cos background ships r always so fun
also was thinking abt the possibility of: sarah jane is the lancelot being replaced. i don’t wanna kill her either but. it adds some fun messy stuff for kate cos i am always a sarah jane/kate truther but also establishing it all could be messy
also was considering just having sarah jane have been a past agent that kate’s father knew (will get into family history in a sec) and kate got to occasionally hear some stories about her OR sarah jane is kate’s aunt (basically they knew each other but sarah jane is gone now and kate struggles with that a bit)
cos kate’s dad was obviously part of Kingsman which is how Kate got recruited- sorta. (here is why i want sarah jane to be. important and not related to kate but i can’t change some of it) cos she technically still had to be recruited but sarah jane kept an eye on kate while she was in military training and actually recruited her having not realised who she was until after she had already decided
which is about to be what happens here cos. osgood is a rlly fucking good hacker and they can hack into p much any database okay so kingsman has been keeping an eye on them- not cos they’re worried that osgood will reveal them, just cos they kinda think she’s brilliant- and kate actually ends up running into them at a bar. where idk what but some kinda relatively easy to defeat alien shows up right and kate has to get rid of it and suddenly there’s a lot going on but kate is asking osgood to come to kingsman with her
and basically what osgood had been doing is kinda like. non-violent the beekeeper type shit like hacking elon musk’s bank account to send a billion dollars to palestine or some shit like just trying to improve the world in whatever ways right
and then osgood’s ends up joining kingsman (sorry but skip the ‘roxy beats eggsy’ plot line cos even tho i love roxy i don’t have time to figure out how to fit weird sexism into this especially cos not one man has actually been a part of this story yet) and proceeds to get sucked into the Cyber-Reality storyline
lowkey tho a) i need to learn how to write smut because i need them to hook up at least once probably pre-cyber like. anything. like they r attracted to each other. maybe that’s how kate learns about them in the first place is they hook up and osgood tells kate what they do with their life and kate decides to look into her work
(just occurred to me this may not be obvious but she/they osgood. possibly they/then doctor too cos i like fucking around w characters’ pronouns)
but anyway yeah i actually lowkey want the story to end with them not quite having figured themselves out but knowing they’re gonna do it together (😏)
but def positive ending cos i have not thought out Kingsman: The Golden Circle yet
i have figured out origins but not entirely how to make it follow a plot line yet but there’s a strong chance of it involving the third doctor, liz shaw, and the brigadier and possibly autons. liz = galahad; brig = merlin. and obviously it’ll have threebrig. but it’s a separate story i’ve barely thought about
also figuring out how to make the time jump from three to twelve but also still having time in there for kate to come around? it’s gonna be interesting for sure
this is so much rambling j am very sorry and i’m also very tired and i definitely could do better hashing this out and i’m working on doing better hashing this out i just also needed to ramble at someone. lol

4 April, STL @ BOS, 9-13, win, Home Opener
YOU get a run and YOU get a run and YOU get a run…
Gosh. That was a nice break from some of our more recent home openers. I would, obviously, have preferred not to give up quite so many runs, but a W is a W. It did seem on quite a few occasions that the Cardinals were attempting to “hold our beer” the Sox every time Boston scored a bunch of runs. Beuhler needs to be better on the mound - we’ve got too many teams with big bats to hand leads straight back. And the three errors made by the Sox brings the eerie possibility that we're being haunted by the ghosts of last season's backhanded fielding. Gave me the shivers. But it all turned out ok. And it all kicked off with a special appearance by Yaz and the rest of 1975 legends, celebrating 50 years since their incredible season and possibly the greatest World Series of all time. Fenway just seemed choc-full of good vibes. But, whilst reminiscing is an all well and good, there was a game to play and that game had plenty of bright sides.
The Sox scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning. It was great. The best start to a home opener for some time. That top of the lineup is going to be hard work for opposing teams.
Raffy Devers continued his recovery, going 2-for-3 with a run and a RBI and he also took two walks. I am counting walks folks. And so does the scoreboard because that first walk was in the first and ended up being a run when Story went yard. Good eye, Raffy.
Bregman went 2-for-4 with two runs and a RBI. Also good. Those two back-to-back should be fun if Raffy is back on track.
Trevor Story hit a three-run dinger in the first, knocking in Bregman and Devers.
Jarren Duran was 2-for-6 with a run and a RBI. Don't think he's quite warmed up yet but he's getting there. He also stole a base.
Wilyer Abreu continued to be a beast this season, going 3-for-5 with a dinger, two runs scored and two RBIs.
Kristian Campbell was 1-for-2 but scored three runs BECAUSE HE TOOK TWO WALKS. Good eye, Kristian. He also stole a base. Stealing bases is good.
Carlos Narváez was good behind the plate and went 2-for-3, knocking in two runs and taking two walks as well.
We took EIGHT walks and only struck out THREE times. It's like a shiny new era.
We won! At home!
Maybe we'll win more at home!
