“You’re not happy.” He states as he picks up his cup of tea by its circular top.

You chew on your bottom lip for a moment. “I know.” You reply softly.

“So quit.” He shrugs as he brings the cup to his lips.

You roll your eyes. “I can’t just quit, Levi.”

“Sure you can. I’ll even write the resignation letter for you.” He smirks before taking a sip of tea, his eyes meets yours as he drinks.

You chuckle at that. “I wish…”

“It doesn’t have to be a wish, Y/N…”

“I don’t have another job lined up.” You remind him.

“So?” He places his cup back down on the table.

You look at him incredulously. “What do you mean, ‘so?’ How am I supposed to make money, Levi?”

“I would give it to you.” He states simply, as if the answer was obvious.

Your eyes narrow at him. “And what would you get in return, Mr. Ackerman?”

He shrugs. “Nothing I don’t get already. This isn’t an arrangement-“

“So I wouldn’t be your sugar baby?” You ask jokingly.

Levi looks disgusted. “Absolutely not.”

You pretend pout. “You don’t want me to be your sugar baby?”

“Y/N.”

“Okay, I’ll stop.” You giggle.

“I’m serious. If you need to quit-“

“Levi, I couldn’t possibly do that. What if we break up?” You ask, your mind jumping to the worse possible conclusion. “What if we break up, then I would be without a partner and without a job.”

“Why would you assume we would break up?”

“I’m just thinking of possible scenarios!”

Levi pinches the bridge of his nose and lets out a breath. “Look, I know it would be a big deal. I’m not saying it isn’t. I’m just stating the option is there.”

“I don’t know, Levi…”

“I know it’s scary, you would have to rely on me-“

You cut him off again, trying to explain yourself. “It’s not that I don’t trust you-“

“I know. I know, Y/N.” He says with a chuckle. “I know how your brain works. Just think about it.” He shrugs.

You pause, digesting his words. “Would I get an allowance?”

This makes Levi chuckle again. “Would you want one?”

You shrug. “I don’t know, man, you tell me.”

Levi playfully rolls his eyes. “C’mere.” He gestures for you to sit on his lap. You follow his command, now you’re snug against him. “Whatever you want, you’ll get.”

You nod.

“I love you, and I just want you to be happy.” He murmurs against your skin.

“I know, I appreciate you. I love you too.” You think about how lucky you are to have someone like Levi. “I don’t deserve you.” You mumble.

“Tch, don’t say that. I’d argue it’s the other way around.

“Absolutely not.”

“I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree.” He places a small trail of kisses on your skin.

“I guess so.” You giggle.

i posted this microfic months ago but then deleted it after a while but i was rewatching this episode of Gilmore Girls tonight and thought about it again... so here it is

Three days. 

Hardly any time at all if you really think about it, but to Regulus it feels like it’s been decades. He’s spent most of it in bed, pathetic yes but he can’t help it. He hasn’t answered his phone. Hasn’t even let it ring. He can’t handle it really. The one person he wants to call won’t so it’s better just to not hear it at all. His bed should bring him comfort, but it’s cold and he wants to rip off his sheets with every breath he takes that’s not taken by another. He would if he could move, but his chest feels heavy and sleep has always been easier.

He’s spent so much time staring at the permanent park on his forearm, a “J” written out plainly. There’s nothing else it could be, that was the point. Never get a lover tattooed on you, they say, but Regulus didn’t listen. He even let him be the one to do it, he was so sure. He could remove it, or cover it up with something else, but the very thought kills him to even think about. He feels himself gagging at the idea of looking down and not seeing it there, of seeing something else. He wants to be separated from him but he wants no space at all. It’s his own fault, he has to remind himself of that. He was the one who landed the final punch. He was gripping the knife. He really didn’t mean to, but it means nothing when 

Sirius broke down his door yesterday, said they thought he was dying, and maybe he is. He certainly feels like he’s rotting. He felt the decay setting in as soon as James stormed out of the door. He can hardly say his name anymore. What once left his lips like a promise now sits behind it until he’s joking on it. Thinking of him isn’t like pushing on a bruise, it hurts worse. It’s a slicing of a knife, or a pulling apart of scars. Sirius made him get out of bed, no matter how much he yelled at them. He ran out of words eventually and Sirius’ grip was stronger than he could fight. They shoved him into the bathroom and forced him to shower, banging on the door every ten minutes to make sure he was actually doing it. Regulus wanted to kill them, and he wanted to hug them too. He doesn’t like how he gets when he’s not with James. He doesn’t really like who he is when he was with him either. It’s always a push and pull with him. Sirius couldn’t stay forever though, or at least Regulus faked being better long enough that they thought they could trust him. A bad idea on their part but Regulus won’t complain. They’re sitting up now, nails digging into their shin as the phone rings against his ear. It’s a bad idea. It’s a really bad idea. But his brain isn’t working and he just needs to hear his voice. He needs to… He can’t do this alone. He doesn’t care if James hates him. He knows him. If Regulus calls him and asks for him to come James will, even if it kills him. He’d do it. That’s just how James is. And maybe it’s selfish for Regulus to ask this of him, in fact he knows it is. He’s awful for asking it but he can’t help but take. 

He doesn’t pick up. Regulus chest drops, he can’t help it. He really messed up this time. “James, hi,” his voice breaks, it cuts off after every word. He sounds like shit if he’s being honest. “I don’t really know what I’m doing I just… I needed to hear your voice and I thought you’d pick up. I know that’s—do you remember one of the first times we talked?” He asks, he knows he shouldn’t. He’s taking it a step too far, but he can’t help it. “We weren’t together yet and I don’t even know if you know what I’m talking about but we were at that party. The one Sirius dragged me too. It was one of yours. I stayed out in the backyard the entire time trying to hide but you found me anyway. You sat down on the grass next to me and just started talking. You didn’t shut up no matter how much I told you to go.” 

He remembers it so vividly. He can picture James’ stupid outfit, it was his favorite, no matter how ridiculous it looked. Filled with mix-matched patterns and simply awful designs, but it was James. It screamed his name. As soon as they started dating Regulus shoved it so far back into James’ closet he couldn’t find it. He couldn’t stand it. Now he wants to see it again. “You didn’t even know me then but you told me if I ever needed anything you would be there. Not because of Sirius you said it was for me,” he’s full on crying at this point, hiccuping between his words. He hates himself for it. No matter how much he claws at his face to remove the marks they’re still there, burning holes in his skin. “And I need you now, James. I— I need you here. Just come over. Please just… come over I—“ 

His actions wash over him and he hangs up the phone as quickly as he called him. 

Fuck what has he done?

Despite not leaving the bed unless forced he jumps out and puts on his shoes. He’s still wearing James’ shirt, the one he left here the last time he stayed over. He shouldn’t be seen like this put he’s already out of the door. James has an awful habit of leaving his phone at home when he goes out. Regulus kept telling him to keep it on him.

“What if you’re in an accident?” He asked him, “What then?” 

“Well if I’m in an accident you’ll be with me,” James replied. “I don’t go anywhere without you.” 

Regulus’ chest aches. It’s a ten minute drive but he’s shaking by the time he makes it there. Time goes by quickly as slams on the break on the road in front of his house. He keeps a spare key in a little cat statue right next to the door. Again Regulus calls him an idiot for, but James doesn’t care. He always forgets his keys anyway, he needs a way to get inside. 

Without a thought Regulus leaps for it, there’s no car in the driveway so he’s probably safe walking in. No matter if he is or if he’s not he rushes inside, slipping on the floor on the way to the kitchen. James’ phone is sitting on the counter, completely untouched. With a sigh he opens it, he doesn’t even need to put the passcode in he put his face ID in it ages ago. James still hasn’t taken it off yet. 

It only takes him a few seconds really to find the voicemail and delete it. He deletes the missing call too, and any other sign of his break. He can’t have James know. He wouldn’t be able to bear it. Without another breath he slams the phone back down and rushes out of the door. His tires squeak on the way home, and he almost runs a red light trying to speed home. He doesn’t really fully understand what he’s done until he pulls into his own driveway to find the door wide open. 

“Fuck,” he whispers, quickly jumping out of the car. “Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.” As soon as he breaks through the doorway he sees him, running out of the bedroom his eyes wide with worry. Fuck. “James—“ 

“Are you okay?” He asks, running up to him. “I come over here and you’re gone.” 

“You got my message,” Regulus says numbly. 

“My phone was across the house I was gonna answer but I didn’t get there in time,” James answers. “So I ran over here. I knocked there wasn’t an answer,” he lifts his hand, “I still have my key so I just…” 

Regulus can’t stop staring at it. It’s such a little thing truly. His eyes trail down the length of James’ arm, he can’t help himself. He needs to see it. Only a glimpse of it. The “R” is still there, imprinted into his skin. He wonders how long that’ll last. “Oh my god.” 

“You can have it back,” James shoves it in his hands, he doesn’t even ask for it. He doesn’t want it, it feels hot in his hand, like he’s look down and see a burn mark. “I just forgot about it I wasn’t—“ 

“I’ll never do it again,” Regulus croaks, blinking quickly. “Sorry I um—I’m fine. Just…” he can’t even look him in the eye. “I’ll never do this to you again. You asked for me to go away and I will. I told you I would so I just— I knew if I called you you’d come and that was awful of me to do.“ “It’s okay,” James whispers, hurt pulling at the end of his words. 

Regulus shakes his head, “I won’t do it again. Thank you for coming but you don’t—you don’t need to stay.” 

James doesn’t move at first, his eyes running over his face as if he’s looking to see if he really means it. Regulus wants him to see right through him. He wants him to stay. Kiss him even if it’ll break him. He wants to be hurt by him. Feeling something will be better than feeling nothing. He’ll take a little bit of James if this is the only other option. “Okay.” 

Regulus bites the inside of his cheek. He won’t cry while he’s here. He doesn’t want to force him to stay. He can’t do that to him. Even though he wants to. He wants him to hurt. He wants him to bleed. He can’t help it. “You should go.” 

“Yeah, I should,” James says distantly. Regulus wants to touch him, one last time at least. He wants to feel like his for a little while longer. He can’t handle feeling nothing, but James is already walking away. He leaves the house without a word and Regulus still has his key burning a hole in his hand. The door shuts and Regulus crumbles exactly where he’s standing. That’s it. There’s nothing more. He looks at the tattoo one final time, knowing he’ll never be able to mark over it. He’s still James’ no matter what happens now. He belongs to him. If James called him he’s show up just like James did now. Even if he finds someone new it won’t matter. He’s still his. 

He leans his head on the cold floor hoping it’ll take his headache away but it only makes him shiver at the thought of being alone forever. 

God. It’s only been three days.

now, about the double edged blade…..

as previously established, Uther is a fucking dick and wants his children to obey him but also adore him. with this behavior, the Pendragon siblings react in two ways: with anger & contempt or submission and remorse

way #1

i’m gonna start with Morgana because anger is the easiest to pick out throughout the show. in the first episode of the first season, our introduction to Morgana’s character is her lecturing Uther about executing the man Merlin witnessed upon entering Camelot (such a warm welcome for Emrys, mh?)

MORGANA I just don't think chopping someone's head off is cause for a celebration. That poor mother. UTHER It was simple justice for what he'd done. MORGANA To whom? He practiced some magic, he didn't hurt anyone. UTHER You were not around twenty years ago, you have no idea what it was like. MORGANA How long are you going to keep punishing people for what happened then?

early on, it is easy to pick up on Morgana’s resentment and anger at Uther, who she believes is blinded by his fear of magic and his need for control (which she isn’t wrong about). also, we find that she isn’t one to back off when poking the bear (Uther). she does it constantly in seasons 1 & 2

MORGANA (1x03 Mark of Nimueh) Why would she kneel on a cold stone floor morning after morning when she could make these things happen with a snap of her fingers? Like an idle king!

MORGANA (1x08 The Beginning of the End) How can this child be your enemy? He's just a boy. UTHER He is a Druid. MORGANA Is that such a crime?…What have these people done to you? Why are you so full of hate?

UTHER (2x04 Lancelot and Guinevere) How many men would you have me sacrifice to save a servant? MORGANA  As many as it takes!

to be honest, i wouldn’t be surprised if screaming, arguing and berating Uther about his morals and ethics is her way of proving that she is not weak or submissive to his actions. i mean, Morgana grew up in a household the complete opposite from her time in Camelot. Gorlois, the man whom Morgana considers to be her father and one and only family member, was said to be “just” and “kind” and someone that Uther even considered a good friend who openly kept him in check. Morgana, until the age of ten, understood parental love and empathy unlike Arthur, who spent his whole life without any good or healthy substance of it.

the culture of Camelot and Uther’s wrath is not something Morgana was ever able to fully acclimate to as Uther himself pointed out in 1x12. She “was at odds with [him] since the beginning” and could never picture herself as a Pendragon (point further proven in 4x05: she looked revolted when Queen Annis compared her to Uther) because she didn’t share in their idea of magic = evil and a king = absolute control.

ironic in terms of future plot events, isn’t it :’)

compare that to Arthur: man’s respressed af. keeps all his emotions under lock and key if they are anything but haughty and serious. y’all, Arthur even says it himself how he “[can't] disagree with Father [Uther] in public.” whenever Arthur finds himself at odds with Uther, he holds his tongue and waits until he can disobey secretly (2x05 when he leaves to rescue Gwen, 1x08 when he helps Morgana sneak out Mordred in the dark of the night, 2x08 when he sneaks out to meet Morgause for more info about his mom, etc). it is only the rare moments when Arthur feels impassioned enough to speak up without fearing any retribution does Arthur talk back at him (so satisfying 👌)

ARTHUR (1x03 Mark of Nimueh) [Morgana’s] right, Father. You hear the word magic, you no longer listen.

ARTHUR (2x08 Sins of the Father) This is what fuels your hatred for those who practice magic. Rather than blame yourself for what you did, you blame them….You hunted her kind like animals! How many hundreds have you condemned to death to ease your guilt?!….You speak of honour and nobility! You're nothing but a hypocrite and a liar!

ARTHUR (3x10 Queen of Hearts) You can't forbid my feelings any more than I can. I won't deny them any longer, I love her. I love Guinevere.

we can even compare how the two react to Uther’s violence towards them

on the left, you see Arthur’s face right when Uther crushes the morteus flower needed to heal Merlin (his manservant/friend/????) and on the right, is Morgana after Uther discovers she was harboring a Druid child in her chambers and she refuses to listen to his reason.

notice how both faces are remarkably similar 👀

however, Arthur’s look of shock and dismay come from his hope that Uther would do the right thing. that he would help save Merlin’s life from dying of poison. that he wouldn’t use this as a method to teach Arthur “what it means to disobey and cross the king.” he truly did hope, just like he always does with the people he holds close. Arthur cannot help but hope and trust that those close to him will not betray him and yet so many do. hence the remorse

looking at Morgana, her shock comes from the fact that this might be the first time Uther reacted to her words and actions in a physical manner. my suspicion is that most of the time, all Morgana previously got was Uther reprimanding her and yelling at her to stop questioning his methods (bc, let’s be real, she was the favorite child.) never has he lifted a finder on her like Arthur and i have proof (cue transcript!)

AND! and, Arthur is constantly warning Morgana about not angering Uther any further because of the consequences she might face (consequences this boy is very familiar with) when Uther deems it necessary to “teach” his children obedience.

UTHER (1x04 The Poisoned Chalice) You have to learn there's a right and a wrong way of doing things. I'll see you're let out in a week. Then you can find yourself another servant.

UTHER (3x10 Queen of Hearts) You have caused this to happen, Arthur. My decision is final [...] This is for your own good. - UTHER She will die. The enchantment will be broken. You'll see I was right.

UTHER (2x08 Sins of the Father) I am protecting you from your own foolishness!

so educational 🥰 but see, because Uther presents his punishments as lessons, Arthur himself views them as just a fucked up but meaningful way of his father’s concern because “yeah, I am the first born son and only heir to the throne. of course I need to learn not to do silly things like disobey, talk back to him, be my own person.” <- I’m paraphrasing here

Arthur does and has never seen a way out of the life thrust upon him by Uther (see 3x06). succeeding Uther as king, marrying a noblewoman of high standing for heirs and alliance strength was always expected of him. Arthur never saw a way out of this. even when he and Gwen were in their secret relationship phase, Arthur had to remind himself that this would never last. he loved her and knew she loved him, but there was always that reminder (that sounded a lot like Uther) in the back of his head telling him that it would never last so long as he was prince. he had a duty (constructed by Uther) to serve Camelot and going against his father would mean (in his eyes) that he is going against Camelot (as Uther always presented it to be).

so unlike Morgana, he did not kick and scream but stood firm because that was what he believed was stronger. if he stayed in his lane and did his part, then he would be a good king, maybe even a better one than his father, for Camelot. however, the show proves that differentiating himself from Uther actually made him the better king and more respected, but this is not the meta for that. I am getting side tracked.

OK: so we’ve established parental issues between the two siblings. now onto their very complex, complicated yet beloved dynamic

sO, as i mentioned in this post (because i am lazy and too tired to copy/paste the evidence from there), these siblings do care for one another. they just go about it in the most hilarious and repressed and in-denial way (hilarious to me 😤)

when we meet them, it’s established that these two have known each other for some time. enough for them to bicker and have banter, you know, as you do with a Pendragon. also, should add, neither character are ever aware they are blood-related until s3 (because of some weak-ass bitch named Uther), so you have that very, uh, interesting subplot in s1 that everybody forgets about until you rewatch it. (honestly, I have so many questions. number 1: why???? number 2: it’s only in s1—was it scrapped??? is it like it never existed???? what was its purpose to the plot??? bbc explain yourself—)

however, despite how much it is shown that they do care for one another, they’re relationship in s1 is still undefined and vague as if they also don’t know how to accurately define what the other means to them. it’s very similar to the whole “i really love this person so much but is what i’m feeling platonic, familial, or romantic?” because….you know, guy and girl besties who are close are typically expected to grow romantic feelings for each other, so tbh i would not be surprised if both mistook their love as romantically inclined in the beginning bc, reminder, neither of them were aware they were siblings until much later.

[and this is ALL i am saying on this subplot. i do not want to cause any negative discourse, so if anyone has a few choice words about it, either keep it to yourself or feel free to talk about it with people you know. personally? not a fan of the ship and never will be, but i am not here to post about that.]

Morgana is very aware of Arthur’s trusting nature. Arthur is very aware of Morgana’s empathy and righteous nature. they understand each other so well which is why Morgana knew just how to harm Arthur in later seasons and why Morgana’s betrayal hit Arthur so hard. it’s also why he never stopped trying to reach out to her in s4 & s5. as @merlinemrys said in this lovely post, the show’s driving force is love. love of all kinds. whatever conflict it is, love is there at the center of it all and, in Arthur and Morgana’s case, it does not save them (just like how love does not save Merlin or Arthur from what lies ahead, as the op of the post pointed out).

that is what makes their relationship/love be like a double edged sword!! that is why they are edges of the same blade!!! they protect and fight for what they believe in and for the people they love, but the same blades cut deep and twist their wounds into a lasting scar.

it is because of Arthur’s love for Morgana that he cannot help but hope and mourn the woman he once knew. it is because of Morgana’s love for Arthur that her feelings of hatred are so strong and ugly.

like honestly,

look at them T^T compared to before

their relationship is so tragic T^T because we knew them before it all went wrong. we knew they cared and understood each other. we knew that for some time, they only had each other to rely on for a friend, a crutch, a breather for when the royal life was too much. both of them were fighters and strive to honor their values. both of them had once leaned on the other for support, had wanted nothing but happiness for each other.

fuck, they didn’t even get the chance to really be siblings because they found out too late, and by then Morgana was on a war path and Arthur only found out at the last minute.

Lately i think about that one scene in GOT, where Sansa is back at Winterfell and sees Lord Bolton for the first time. And Bolton is all "Lady Sansa" and she just looks at him silent...silent...silent...smiles "Lord Bolton". I totally believe all she saw for a moment was her dead older brother. All she saw was Greywinds head on his body. All she saw was her dead mother. Her body left in the water as fish food. All she saw was how she could kill this man for all the things that happend to her family.

tommy trying to blame his past piece of shit tendencies on gerard as if he wasn’t a grown ass man is so???? like it’s something for sure…i’m mostly willing to overlook it just because it’s obvious the writers forgot how fucking bonkers strange that man was but to write it into the show that he was racist because of underlying daddy issues is CRAZY work…tommy literally think about things here
