A side character from my comic in the works ‘New Wolf’. He’s a 57 year old kappa that runs a ramen stand in the Yokai Realm. Xander often stops by his stand on his way to school, the two of them becoming fast friends. Maho runs the stand alone, but is happy for the company his customers give him. He loves his job and to cook.

Meet Soup, the amnesiac homeless Kappa who is under house arrest She uses a Soup bowl to protect her sacred water on the bald spot of her head (we find out later its actually just clear monster energy). Soup isnt actually fully homeless... ok she is just she crashes mostly at her "friend" JAX's the Jackalope apartment (you will see art of JAX soon enough) JAX's is NOT Soup's friend, both are just in the same trade (petty crimes) and tend to bump into each other, so Soup stays around and crashes on JAX's couch and tend to help being henchmen to a more powerful crime lord (again Soup isn't a good guy, just unhinged and thinks crimes are fun) Soup bolted straps onto her shell to make her look more "normal" (turtle people are normal in this universe so what she did was counteractive) WE LOVE SOUP IN THIS HOUSE!!

河童の池 - Kappa Pond🌿🐢 The first time I saw a kappa was in Gintama. I only realize later, that they are a yokai and belong to Japanese mythology. Where did you encounter your first Kappa?

Can donnie tell us a bit more about the differences between kappas and turtles? I thought they were water spirits

Park (one of mikey's friends): You want to use me as an example? Uh, sure.

D: Like most Yokai, kappa have four fingers! And instead of stirruped feet, have forward facing toes.

D: We aren't a good example of this, but male kappa have a noticeable dip in their plastron. While female kappa don't.

D: Hamatos usually don't unlock their ninpo until their early to mid teens (like we did). Kappa develop their mystics much sooner. They'll often use conduits to manage it until their older. And can learn spells instead of having one "track" of abilities like we do. With dedicated study, kappa can become quite versatile.

P: Wait was that pointed.

Mikey: Park! There you are.

D: The easiest difference for the layman to spot is that kappa don't have tails!

This brief was so fun! Kappa are found in rivers and akaname thrive in dirty, cluttered areas of houses licking grime off things. So best to keep our rivers clean and our homes a little less clean to give these beings space to live!
