The idea that parenting, that love of any kind, makes someone weak is a lie. The act of loving and to love, to give a part of yourself, takes so much courage and vulnerability.

In fact, the act of loving someone can make you stronger and gives you purpose.

Meleanor having Lilia realize that he is capable of love was one of the best (and worst) lessons she had taught him.

Before, Lilia didn’t think he was capable or worthy (to a degree like Silver and Malleus, the former thinking he owes Lilia something and the latter always being put on a pedestal and not able to show his true emotions, both of which are raised to uphold others ideals/expectation. I can literally write an essay on this topic. They learned from Lilia so I guess the apple doesn’t fall that far from the tree after all.)

So this realization not only allowed Lilia to realize what he is capable of but also to learn to fear loss, to aknowledge loss.

Lilia thought he wasn’t capable of love, literally just dived head into everything without worry or fear of himself. Because who was he to others? Nothing but a weapon, and his loss wouldn’t mean anything, everyone he knew was happy. He didn’t matter.

But when it was pointed out that he has always loved and had the ability to do so, he realized the wonders and despair of such an emotion. He realizes how others viewed him and he first hand learned how such emotions can wreck someone, during one of the hardest moments of his life.

And yet

This emotion allowed him to continue living, see malleus hatch, raise silver, teach sebek and silver, and so much more.

He was able to see all that life had to offer him where before you can say he kind of took it for granted.

Now, realizing that and having felt loss himself, the connections he made is what can be his undoing. Because to make connections and love, is to mean to lose eventually. (That why he said Cater was smart to keep people away, so he doesn’t get hurt. Because he understand those feelings.)

And with this comes fear, of losing and being the cause of the very pain he felt. And that is why he runs away. He doesn’t want to face these fears and these connections. Doesn’t want to see these loved ones as they feel pain over his gradual deterioration. Didn’t want to be the cause of such pain.

Because it means he have loved so fully and people loved him return, and what a wondrous but beautiful emotion it is, isn’t it? And why would he want to cause his loved ones such pain? Allow them to see him this way?

Now, someone trying to take that away from him? Those he cherish? The ones he loved so wholeheartedly? He who has suffered so much?

Parenting made him all the more stronger and he’ll show them just how much more brutal the General could be.

Aww, thank you so very much for reading the Midnight Espresso verse!! That series is very personal and special to me. (I actually have yet another story rattling around in my head for it.)

However, my approach to writing Dean Winchester remains the same across the board, whether it's the Espresso-verse or regular canon. It's just a matter of how he'll react in certain situations based on his personality. I try to keep a few points in mind:

Dean is gruff, but he's still playful.

He can be cocky and teasing, especially when he has a partner he can be comfortably himself with (my own headcanon). I think he'd often be teasing, in that insufferable, endearing way of his. 😏

But if he's grumpy and serious, which he can also be at times, then I've had a lot of fun with making the reader tease him out of it, being warm and playful until he cracks. 😂

I did this recently in "A Little Danger." (Beware minors, there be smut.)

Dean is naturally a giver.

I think we can all agree on this. And in particular for the Espresso-verse, that reader is a giver as well. I wanted to match Dean with someone who dotes on him, takes care of him the same way he takes care of others, like Sam.

Dean's not used to being the one who's taken care of, which can either cause some friction, or take him by surprise in a good way, followed by intense gratefulness.

He's got a gruff exterior (another aspect of his personality I love), but he has a soft interior when it comes to the ones he loves. 💓

He wants to make sure "they're okay." Whether that means making them a home-cooked meal when they have the time for it in the bunker, or being a generous lover.

Dean is a protector.

He can be physically protective, even when he knows you can protect yourself. Not in a misogynistic way. That's just who he is. He protects Sam the same way, even though he's a complete and utter badass, just like Dean.

But something I touch on in the Espresso-verse is my own headcanon -- that Dean is also emotionally protective of his partner.

He cares about how she sees herself when her ex brings up trauma from her past. (The story is called Show Me.) Dean cares about how comfortable she is with him, and if she's falling into bad mental habits of the past. 💞

Just as she's one to be his emotional safety net, he provides the same comfort, safety, and security for her.

Dean doesn't see himself as worthy.

This is also a common trait of Dean's that many of us explore as writers. In general, he can be self-deprecating and less than positive about his own self-worth.

In fairness, he's done some messed up shit that's taken him to as close to "monstrous" as you can get, but he's always been able to bring himself back to as much of what makes him human as he can (with Sam's help).

In the Espresso-verse, she's helped him curb this idea -- that "he's not good for her." That she's crazy to stay with him, especially with all the shit he and Sam get dragged into. He's scared of one day being the reason she gets hurt.

And yet, this is part of what makes Dean a good man.

Fuegoleon Vermillion was a star student with an immaculate work ethic and great honor. He was also on the student council, which to everyone, seemed like an obvious position. Some could even argue that he deserved to be student body President. But he couldn’t be, no thanks to his cousin and long-time rival, Nozel.

Nozel insisted on fighting with him so much that they were both distracted from the real fight. The position slipped out of their hands and landed in the lap of their friend, William Vangeance.

Fuegoleon was outraged at first, but he conceded the position reluctantly because William seemed to be good at the job.

But when Fuegoleon is not out competing with Nozel on one thing or another, he focuses on his classes as a business major.

He is set to inherit his Father’s Company, “Crimson Lion Kings Inc.” so he needed to do his best in his classes and prove himself to be worthy before he could lead it. His genius sister had always overshadowed him, but he believed his hard work, determination, and his willpower, can and will make up for all his shortcomings.

When Fuegoleon wasn’t caught up in his ambitions, he liked to cook, read books, and hangout with his “friends,” which is essentially the student council.

He didn’t know how it came to be, but when they were in their first year of college, when they were all junior council members, they just hung out on a whim one weekend and never stopped.

They would all pretend to meet for work outside of meeting days and do no work. If the student body saw how they behaved, all their reputations would be in the negatives.

Fuegoleon knew he was uptight and sometimes difficult to talk with, but with them, his colleagues, his peers, his equals, his ragtag group of friends, he wasn’t any of that.

He was a part of them. Once upon a time, he believed that there would be no one he could seriously rely on, except himself. That’s why he was strong and strove to be stronger, but with these kids, well, they prove him wrong everytime.

Fuegoleon believed that he would go to college, focus on his academics, prove himself to be worthy of his father’s consideration, but with everyone by his side, he was coming to learn that there was so much more in life.

Now he wasn’t too sure about joining his father’s company, forever living in his shadow, being accused of nepotism. Fuegoleon saw a new future with his friends, a startup, a new lease on life where they could maybe just change the world.

💚- I know Arlecchino would never look at others, my Jealousy is minimal and barely there. Arlecchino, however, absolutely has a jealous streak at times! Might surprise you but it's Yelan, actually! Since she has to store up energy before going on missions and such, she stays home when possible and loves to be around me whenever she can. Yelan loves physical affection and she'll even, very rarely, taste test the sweets I make! Yelan will occasionally bring home little trinkets from a job if she thinks they were worthy enough to bring home to me. These trinkets are things like certain books in a hideout or bolts of fabric that someone had been smuggling things in/with. She does so adore the outfits I make with her little trophies.

I make her the spicy dishes she likes! Even adding spices from the other nations. She loves the variety and I love knowing she is getting the care she so deserves. She loves my families spicier recipes.

💋- favorite places to kiss?

Yelan likes my lips, cheek and jaw. She has to bend down a bit to reach my jaw and cheek but these little kisses mean quite a bit to both of us.

My favorite places to kiss her are the corner of her lips, her wrist and the tips of her ears. She is kinda ticklish and has the cutest giggles when I kiss her ears!

Thirteen is a total TsunTsun and she may say she doesn't like me always seeking her out, but she likes it just as much as I do!

We are equally clingy. She seeks me out just as much as I do, takes me out to window shop and get something to eat. Her clingy is just dates galore and more time spent together than what time I spend with the brothers, she'll even crash an event (that she is actually invited to but that's neither here nor there) to spend time with everyone and myself.

💚- who gets jealous?

Me. Plain and simple. But more complicated, mix of insecurities about the life span difference and that, in comparison, I won't be a thought for long. She doesn't let that go for long at all and is quick to remind me that my soul will be hers at the end of things and another life is something I'll have with her.

Her love is for all subsequent lifetimes.

💞- how we express affection?

Thirteen is the type to play around with me, pulling pranks and trapping people together. She explains her traps and how they work and even lets me help name them. She also has a thing for sweets so she (for both our enjoyment) taste tests my baking! She buys me candles and body mists because she knows I like the vanilla and cotton candy ones.

I show affection by baking and making things for her. Making her new tops and teddy bears that she actually keeps on shelves as little tokens of affection. She liked the pampering I tend to give her, doin her nails and hair, even slightly gloats about it to Mammon and Levi to get their goats.

Thirteen is oh so giddy to kiss my lips and cheeks! She loves to hold my cheeks and repeatedly kiss my lips and then gets all embarrassed because I tease her about it. She does it more often when we haven't seen each other in a while.

I love to kiss her palms and her lips. Her palms are calloused from her trap making and I love the slight roughness in her hands. Her lips are always with vanilla or strawberry chapstick because she knows it's my favorite kind of flavors.

Simeon!

💕- clingy one?

Me. I love bein around simeon and having his attention. Even just being in the same room while he writes, I'll even be his little gopher and bring him food and some hot chocolate to keep him fed while he works. I am a golden retriever puppy for this man, for all of them really but I always thought I was the black cat. 🤷‍♀️

💚- who gets jealous?

Me, only a little. This man gets looks in the human world, the devildom and the playful flirting of Solomon, love em to bits but sometimes I'm just not in the mood for hearing it. Though Asmo and Solomon see that and are the best gettin me to talk to Simeon, even when I feel somewhat childish for feeling that way.

💞- how we express affection?

Simeon will write little love notes and stick them around my room and send little messages in between classes.

I like to brush Simeons hair and give him little trinkets from the human world that I think he might like.

A mutual form of showing love for one another is bookstore dates. We both love to read and reading each other's book recommendations is something we do every other month!

💋- favorite places to kiss?

Simeon likes to kiss my knuckles and my forehead! He sometimes randomly comes by to place a few quick kisses to my forehead before something happens and we have to resume later that night.

I love to kiss his shoulder blades, his nose and his brow line. He still has a bit of a time adjusting to his new normal, so he still needs a bit of a cool down time when I kiss his shoulder blades.

His other favorite kiss only happens when we dance. He likes to spin me around the kitchen when something is cooking and we have some extra time to goof around, since we rarely have time away from the brothers and other people in general. He'll spin me and dip me slowly before kissing me so tenderly that it leaves us both breathless.

The warm morning sun was peering from the window and into the room bathing everything in sight in his warm colors birds chirped happily outside while a pleasant smell of fresh baked chocolate cookies came from the kitchen as a pair of dreamy sigh filled the air, nuzzled blissfully immersed in their sheets affectionately watching in each other eyes with sleep still clinged to their features as they stifled yawns behind smiles were lazying around a peculiar pair of lovebirds "Bonjour mon prince." "Bonjour mon déese." she chuckled softly at his words as he slowly leaned over kissing her forehead, caressing her blond curl away from her gorgeous face whispering tenderly "Happy brithday my love."

She looked stunned at him her amethyst eyes crinkling with affection as she threw her arms behind his neck kissing him on the lips "Thank you so much Napoleone." "You seriously do not thought I forget." she smiled softly shaking her head lightly feeling heat rushing on her cheeks, she was sure Napoleone would have not but a part of her was afraid still for he was such a busy man she would have not blamed him, he let his fingers brush lightly on her cheeks gently lifting her chin looking straight into her eyes

"Good because I could never forget my precious reine special day." softly he melted his lips on hers entwining his fingers with her as his tongue danced with hers swallowing her ever so light whimper of pleasure escaping her luscious pink lips, blissfully losing themselves in a slow tender session of lovemaking before reluctantly sliding off the bed only when he beamed brightly about something he wanted to show her in town, after a lavish breakfast worthy of a King that spoiled her palate along the happy wishes of a pleasant birthday from the resident of the mansion.

Once reached their destination he hugged her from behind keeping his hands on her eyes slowly he lead her forward feeling her hands grip lightly his arms to not lose balance, he chuckled softly at her smile whispering lowly in her ear "Today I want to spoil you rotten but most of all I want you to feel how much I love you from the bottom of my heart." His finger slipped tenderly away from her eyes as he take her hand in his squeezing it lightly before raising it to his lips leaving a gentle kiss on her knuckles "Do you like it mon amour ?" she sighed dreamily not knowing what to say, so she decided to show him instead circling his neck and brushing her lips on his in a sweet slow kiss conveying all her emtions welled up from her heart for him alone.

"I love it so much my lion, I do not know what to say." she beamed brightly looking into her eyes making his heart melt at the brightness of her smile, warm and pure like her. Softly he cradled her face in his hands brushing his lips on her forehead hearing her giggle happily before leading her to the buffet prepared all for them to fest on, chocolate bon bons of any taste and flavour were elegantly lined up on a candid table but the thing that caught her eyes melting her heart the most was a little heart cake at the center of it topped with a little cherub, his eyes softened at the sight of her fingers sneaking subtly sliding a pink heart between her lips smiling widely as she rolled it over her tongue.

They stayed there all afternoon improvising an informal but lively party with Napoleon little students who, after her permission, enjoyed the lavish sweet treats helping them both clean the table by sunset, when they wandered off not without thanking their teachers of the party and wishing Napoleon's lover a really happy birthday, her heart bursted with happiness at the memory as they both chit chatted on the way back home, filling the golden bathed carriage with their hearty laugh.

Before they knew it the landscape changed from city to the countryside as the mansion entered in their vision reluctantly they pulled off wandering throught the corridor unusually quiet, she was about to enter in the dining hall elicited by muffled laugh and conspirational whispers that resonate through the door, slowly she went to look through the keyhole before placing her ear on it but in vain, startled by Napoleon voice she jumped back looking sheepshily at him "What are you up to ?" "Nothing." she answered lacing her fingers behind her back like a child caught with their hand stuck in the candy box "I see."

Her smile wide and playful, her jade dress and a mischievous glimpse in her amethyst eyes she looked like fairy, the blithe smile on his lips told her he knew whast she was doing all along eliciting her to confess candidly "Alright I was eaversdropping but I only wanted to get a glimpse inside." "If you are so curious why we not enter ?" "We can?" she beamed excitedly her eyes sparkling as her smile widened on her pretty lips "Of course, after all today is your special day for you to do everything you want." he whispered softly in her ear making her blush softly as he knocked at the door twice before opening it, walking trough it hand in hand.

All the light were off but Elaine could clearly hear muffled laugh and little chuckles as she looked for the switch on the wall, pressing it lighting the chandelier she turned her back to the table only to be welcomed by a cheer of "Surprise." a wide smile bright like the sun itself appeared on her lips as her eyes widened at the frilly decorations filing the whole room, an huge banner embroidered in colorful letter pinned on the wall HAPPY BIRTHDAY ELAINE while corals and jade garlands along shiny little trinkets adorned every surface on shelves and tables. The first to approach her was le Comte niece and her friend Julie smiling widely at her as her chartreuse green eyes glimmered with excitement as she hugged her tightly.

"Happy birthday Honey." reluctantly they pulled away, taking her hand in hers beaming brightly she asked "Do you like it ?" After few minutes in which she tried to collect her thoughts coherently enough she exclaimed "I adored it." her answer satisfied her friend enough making her giggle happily sliding away just in time for Elaine to catch a glimpse of Sebastian placing the biggest cake she has ever seen on the already full table.

Her eyes were now sparkling heart at that sight of his lover next to the cake, two of the things she loved the most together in front of her eyes but the best part it was knowing it was not a dream, for the warmth of his hand on her skin as he helped her accomodate on a seat was enough to sent sparkle all over her body she tried in vain to contain, conveying all happiness and gratitude, all the love and affection she harbored for him brushing her lips on his hearing some cheer of encouragement coming from their friend that make her blush softly trying to pull away only to feel his hand cradle her face pressing his lips on hers once again.

Slowly he pulled away seeing a playful smirk play on her lover's lips as he dipped his finger in the whipped cream of the cake holding them still near her lips, an invite she could do nothing but obey to as she let his fingers slide in her mouth stroking softly her tongue making her whimper lightly as the taste of the white chocolate invade her palate, blushing even more as he sultry whispered in her ear slipping his fingers off her lips "This is all for you it has been made entirely with chocolate. Tonight everything is for you to take as you please, Would you be bold enough to ? " a lustful glimpse in his jade eyes he knew she could not resist he left a little kiss on her neck bathing in her blushing expression she tried to hide casually grabbing a chocolate bonbons and feeding it to him, seeing him smirk as he nibbled at her fingers making her giggle softly.

Night was still young as another surprise hide behind the corner melting her already softened heart when Sebastian started filling the table with all her favourite dishes everyone not hesitated to fest on as soon as the birthday girl give its start with a bite to a luscious shrimp covered in a thin layer of pink seafood sauce, sharing home cooked meal made even more special by the noisy company of their friend that colored dinner with hearty laugh and carefree chit chat before diving in to have a piece of the triple layer cake everyone complimented Sebastian of, seeing the white chocolate one melt quite fastly thanks to Julie and her husband Jean that did not hesitated to dive in with their portions occasionally feeding little bites of cakes to one another much to the amusement of the resident that astounded looked up at them giggling like children as blissfull carefree smile were plastered on their face as white chcolate stuck to their fingers. The evening flew by and before long she was begin to feel tired, smiling softly as some of the resident after a cheerful toast fell alseep around the room, keeping company to Leonardo slumped on a sofa along his cat and a very sleepy and half drunken Isaac, chuckling lightly as she catched a glimpse of Jean holding a fork of a white chocolate heart to Julie seeing her eating it while she blushed madly before brushing her lips over his smiling softly as his cheeks flushed in embarrass. A good birthday could not be complete without gifts, even more when they were used to show affection and so she spent the rest of the evening opening them all, smiling until her cheeks hurted thanking each and every one of them with a warm hug, before being sweept up on an improvised slowl waltz from her lover. Suddenly the clock ring midnight too caught up in the party she did not notice it was getting late, a yawn promptly followed by another were hidden by her hand as the last residents retired in their own room she was about to call it a day when suddenly his sultry voice reached her ear along a pair of strong arm circling her hips "I am not done yet with gift but for it we should wait to be alone." his voice husky and sensual stirred a pleasant heat in her chest spreading from her heart all over her body creeping up on her cheeks she looked up at him smiling suddenly wide awake "I can not wait." he chuckled softly nuzzling into her neck "If you like I can give it to you right now." a soft dreamy sigh escaped her lips as she whispered feeling his fangs scap lightly her skin "Please do." He smirked maliciously murmuring softly "As you wish ma reine." taking her hand in his they slipped unnoticed away from the by now empty room giggling like children as they run through the hall directed to their bedroom, determined to show off his feeling far from prying eyes ready to make her day even more special showering her in his love with only the stars as witness of the emotions they would have shared to one another until dawn.
