Like literally. You just moved and he’s your next-door neighbor.

So, imagine you... A young pretty little thing that’s fresh out of college and is looking for a job but you’re just this awkward little ball of sunshine that keeps messing everything up.

So he finally decides to meet you. Or for you to meet him. He knows so much about you already but he won’t say that to you.

“I locked myself out of my apartment and I tried talking to the office but I guess they’re already out. I mean it’s pretty late.” He looks down at his wristwatch before looking at you with a hopeful smile making your heart beat faster. Not because of his boyish cute smile but because the idea of a stranger being with you just doesn’t sit right.

But it would be more awkward to deny him now, would it?

“It’ll be as if I wasn’t here. I promise. Just need somewhere to spend the night. I mean I can sleep by my door but that would be--” 

“Y-yeah, I guess you can stay for a while.” You give him a small smile which Colin found extremely adorable which then made him grin. A grin that soon fell when he took a look around your apartment.

He watches as you make your way back to your laptop, quickly getting back into your zone. His heart falls at the sight. Is that what you’ve been doing the whole day?

“Have you eaten?” He finds himself asking, not being able to resist.

He watches your face contort into confusion and he would’ve awed at the sight but your reply made him somewhat angry.

“I guess not... Did you want anything?” You pull yourself away from your laptop once more and Colin didn’t know if he liked the idea of you preparing his food but nothing for yourself.

That’s how you find yourself eating pizza while watching some show on the telly.

The company you were working for decided to let some employees go and unfortunately, those who work from home weren’t as important as those who work in the office.

Colin did feel sorry for you. But maybe it’s for the best. Even the universe thinks you shouldn’t be working like that. He’s there to take care of you. You would no longer have to stress yourself out to live.

OKAY, first things first. This started bc I was thinking abt the Sirens doing Derby together (OBVIOUSLY Harleys idea) BUT 3 players isn’t enough for a team (you need 3 blockers, a pivot and a jammer afterall) so this team HINGES on the fact that GCS had that brief team-up with Talia and Zatanna and the pure Chaos of them permanently joining the sirens in the mainverse is something I want to explore sometime in the future but ANYWAYS they also need a team to play against and I’m Nothing if not Consistent so OFC this is Sirens vs Birds

cue Same Age-Range College Setting, Roller Derby Focus AU. Everyone’s attending Uni at Gotham State and yes I have majors in mind too, for the Sirens we got undergrads Harley: Psych, Ivy: Botany, Selina: Art History, Talia: Anthropology, Zatanna: Theater. For the Birds, (grad student she’s fast-tracking) Babs: library science, (undergrads) Dinah: Music, Helena: Undeclared, Zinda: doesn’t actually Go Here lmao

now u might be saying “wait a min randy, that’s only four birds. DIDNT u JUST say u need 5 players for a team?” And yes. Yes I did. The Birds is actually a BIGGER team than the Sirens and includes anyone who has ever been on the BoP team ever. They’re all here! And there’s a lot of them that rotate in and out of the roster but for the sake of simplicity we’ll focus on those four as Main members.

So let’s talk positions, play style & other stuff!

so Harley is the Jammer, don’t fix what isn’t broken. I like the idea of Talia being the Pivot bc ofc she’d want to be in charge. Which leaves Ivy, Selina & Zee as the blockers

 YES Selina plays damn near as dirty as Harley does lmao. In fact if we rank them by how often they play Renegade vs Regulation, you’ve got, Harley, Selina, Talia, Ivy (all at varying degrees of being FAR at the renegade-end of the spectrum) and Zee is more like just Right of center in favor of Regulation (but not above elbowing an opponent or ‘accidentally’ tripping them up if they’re REALLY close to winning) 

Derby names MOSTLY follow their costumed personas, like Poison Ivy and Catwoman, but then there’s also Gnarley Quinn (currently taking suggestions for Zee n Talia tho bc... well they DONT have names other than their own really lmao)

For the Birds, Zinda is the Jammer, Dinah is the pivot, Helena is a blocker, Babs is actually the team manager & former pivot. Harley gave her a BAD injury during an end-of-season bout and kicks off the rivalry btwn the teams at the start of the plot. (Other birds in the rotation play blockers and jammers as needed. Helena will step up as pivot if Dinah can’t make a bout)

All the Birds PRACTICE regulation derby but....  well, when you put on your skates and the ref blows the whistle, what happens next can’t be helped (but esp after babs’ injury if its a Sirens vs Birds bout they’re out for BLOOD)

Yes their derby names are the same as their hero names, and yes ppl still call Babs Oracle even tho she doesn’t put on the skates as much even after her knee heals

okay, so OBVSLY zee & dinah are still VERY much the Fishnet Queens™, but i can totally see Harley, Selina & Zinda joining them. can’t have derby w/o SOME ppl wearing fishnets after all fjldka;s

also i know that derby’s sometimes a bit more butch and some ppl take issue with Zinda’s miniskirt but listen i am GAY and a SUCKER for vintage inspired looks and really? skirts and skates go hand in hand BEAUTIFULLY. the skirt STAYS for zinda

Marvel AU. What powers do you think Magnus and Alec would have?

well.

i know that for magnus the really obvious answer would be like “magic” and obviously that’s valid because he is fucking great at magic but. i can also see him being like, an iron man sorta hero? like obviously he is not tony stark and we’re not including the war crimes part here, but a kind of self-made hero who doesn’t have powers, but is a goddamn genius and turned himself into one? or maybe he does have magic and is a genius (like in canon lmaoo) 

like some doctor strange stuff? ive actually never seen or read doctor strange or any media that features him all i know is that he’s played by the cucumber guy and can see alternate realities but there’s doctor in his name so i assume he’s smart. if he’s not ignore this. anyway magnus having magic (maybe just one specific kind instead of like, general magic like in the show? like idk he can open portals or something of the sort) and being super damn smart too and figuring out new technologies to defend himself and shit and creating new and great ways to mix his powers and that? that’s some good shit

as for alec. well again the obvious answer would be some sorta hawkeye shit which again is valid because i do think that archery, like, suits alec. it’s not just something he does in the show, i think it’s something that reflects his personality and talents - he likes to be a little behind so he has a greater view of the whole picture, so he can have the backs of the people he loves, so he can watch them and make sure they’re fine, so he can be their protector and also see everything with strategy and knowledge and help them. he’s kind of a playmaker you know (i don’t watch sports either but i watched high school musical and troy bolton made this metaphor so i have good sources here). and he’s level headed, precise, strategical, smart

but i can super see him being kind of a.... more like, background guy? like idk he’s the dude who stays in the ship and keeps an eye on everyone and kind of guides them. again the playmaker. kinda like nick fury i suppose, like he keeps the whole team together and lets them know of the big picture they obviously can’t see while they’re down there handling details, he coordinates them and keeps them on the loop and kind of designs their moves. again a strategist, you know? and that’s really cool

and welp i can’t help but think details here so i super like the idea that magnus is like, recruited later (possibly he had escaped his abusive father? and he learnt through that experience that cops are useless when people actually need them lmao, so he becomes this kind of vigilante who swoops in during violent encounters and tries to figure out ways to help the community? hmmm really like that). like there was already this group of superheroes who kind of handled big villains (like asmodeus himself mayhaps? hmmm much to think about. maybe he kinda becomes a villain after magnus escapes because he’s trying to get him back.... idk) and they take notice on magnus even if he’s very minor in the sense that he doesn’t really handle huge villains, his thing is more local cries for help and trying to improve the community life to prevent crime, you know

anyway because his efforts are clearly paying off he draws whoever’s responsible for recruiting the heroes’ attention (oooh let’s make that ragnor). and he kinda is doing his own thing but then he learns that they’re trying to take down asmodeus and ofc he feels responsible. also, well- his work was focused on empowering the communities, and now that they’re more organized they are doing fine on their own and taking care of themselves. plus he’s kinda hated by cops obviously so he is offered immunity. so he agrees

and then of course the first person he’s introduced to is alec because alec is kinda the brains of the whole thing and he’s just keeping magnus in the loop. but magnus is scared that everyone is going to judge/hate him because he’s asmodeus’ son and cue like, outsider angst. also i mean they’re all pretty... close? and magnus is the guy who just got here, so, you know

i mean obviously he makes his own friends, ragnor and cat and rapha, but they’re all kind of in the supporting team (maybe cat and rapha are responsible for like, keeping an eye out to know whenever there is a problem? and intelligence ofc. i’m kind of picturing that this runs parallel to official government stuff like the police, like no outside influence. but they get a nod because the cops themselves can’t handle the shit they do. idk). oh and ELIAS cuz im a sucker for elias (maybe he’s a legal advisor or handles external relationships or something? idk why but i can really see him being good at this). but anyway, ANYWAY, the point is that he’s not really close with the Mission Group, which sucks because it’s what he’s doing

but welp alec’s job is to keep them all in sync after all, and also he lowkey understands because he is part of the ops team but isn’t (even if obviously there are several layers to magnus’ situation that don’t apply to alec) and well alec is canonically like, sensible? when it comes to magnus, he pays attention when others don’t, that’s what drew magnus to him in the first place. so he kinda of nudges him into being closer to the rest of the team. like he knows izzy will be interested in magnus’ technology since she also works with that, so he makes sure to mention it, and he very subtly and smartly makes sure that magnus is a part of the conversation in no time, and it all flows very naturally and he’s just. sitting back watching magnus get along feeling proud of himself. and then magnus kind of turns to him and smiles and mouths thank you, don’t think i didn’t notice. and maybe winks. and poof there it is, the Talking To Magnus Smile

and well probably more drama before the “i’m asmodeus’ son” reveal, because he’s scared they will all hate him, but they are just like. “oh magnus, i’m so sorry you had to go through that, i can’t imagine what it’s like” and everyone supports him and it’s like Validation. and alec is all like “wow i will make sure personally that we end him forever” and adisdiaudha cute

also alec is super interested in the work magnus had been doing for crime prevention because he kind of thinks that having to fight villain after villain after villain when they never stop coming is. not a waste of time but kind of sisyphus’ work. and magnus tells him about it and also about all the shit he’s invented and about his magic and maybe even shows it to him and alec is just like :)!!!!!!!! 

and it also feels good to have a team for once because he was always doing everything by himself feeling unbearably lonely and unimportant, like no one would miss the him that’s behind the mask and just like, when he’s hurt, they notice? and alec brings backup? and makes sure he’s okay? and he has people to watch his back? and it’s nice

i just :)) love magnus slowly becoming part of a community and making friends and being included and loved okay, and also helping them improve and being a valuable member and just being his amazing self? ugh we stan

and then idk they defeat asmodeus and everything, idk what they do to him lol but magnus probably joins the group and helps make some changes in their work so he can do something similar to his previous m.o, on a larger scale? and yeah :)

Hello! Lately i saw many Tony fans talking about how recently writers are giving him only a "rich guy" persona and kinda discarding the rest, so I would like to ask what are your favourite Iron Man writers? And do you know of any issue or arc written by a woman? I would love to read about him from a female writer perspective! Thank you for always beign so nice with your answers and your extensive knowledge!

I feel like I’m just going to mention the same writers I always mention, but I like Busiek’s IM v3 run (he’s definitely rich in it but I think it’s the last time he was portrayed as truly philanthropic) and the Knaufs’ IM v4/Director of SHIELD run (basically about Tony being a grieving mess after Steve’s death). Going back to v1... well, I am always going to rec O’Neil’s run, the second drinking arc, and I think it’s a good run if you’re interested in Tony’s relationship to his money because it literally leaves him with nothing -- like, living on the streets in a cardboard box levels of nothing -- and really shows that he doesn’t, say, think he’s better than any of these people, because this is where he is, he’s one of them. It’s... humbling, I guess, for him. I’m also a sucker for Tales of Suspense era Tony just because I like how much he is portrayed as fundamentally lonely, consciously putting the rich playboy persona on as an act, and desperately wanting someone to love him, but not wanting to get close to anyone for fear of making them care about him and then dying and leaving them alone. It’s where he started, really, and so if you’re looking for the core of Tony Stark I think it’s a good place to look.

Of more recent IM arcs, I really like Ewing’s take on Tony in Iron Man: Fatal Frontier; I think it’s the last IM book I have wholeheartedly enjoyed. And anytime he writes Tony in various cameo appearances, I have always felt like he gets the character. (There’s a great moment in a Secret Wars miniseries where it’s an AU in which Tony sacrifices himself so Yinsen can live and become a superhero.)

To the best of my knowledge, there have been no runs of Iron Man (or Captain America) written by a woman, although you will of course occasionally see Tony or Steve guest-starring in comics by a woman (like the current Life of Captain Marvel; Margaret Stohl generally seems to be really good at writing Tony, and Tony & Carol’s friendship). It’s possible there might be some IM annuals or other one-off issues that I haven’t heard of, but off the top of my head I can’t name any -- if anyone knows any, I would like to read some too! That would be great! I wish Marvel let more women write male superheroes.

I know you didn’t ask about Steve, but the Captain America annual coming out next week is actually written by a woman, Tini Howard. And if it isn’t the first by a woman -- it might be, I’m not sure -- it is definitely one of the first. It’s going to be a WWII-era story featuring Steve and Bucky on an adventure, but given that Tini Howard is also the author of an article entitled Frenemies in Arms: The Best Captain America and Iron Man Moments in Comics, you kind of have to wonder if she is also secretly a Steve/Tony fan, because honestly that’s a slashy moments top ten list right there. (It does conflate Demon in a Bottle and the second drinking arc, alas. But it’s a good list.)

Listen, I like smosh, and I normally hate anything remotely close to this, but I like the writing style. It's combining two things I like, and even if there's only one part up, I like it. It doesn't start with the 'oh I saw him and he changed my life' yeah, no, thats the worst way to show vulnerability in the protagonist. Also, the protagonist's name is Carson and yknow that's in the school au so I said fuck it I'll give it a try.

3-snitches die in ditches, I believe it's written by @pasta-quotes-headcanons but if it's not I'm deeply sorry

10. Silly but cute AU prompts: #1 - rival superheroes who are trying to protect the same small city (Kuroo, Tsukishima) - this one wasn’t a request we got but i still loved it anyway. the idea of “rival superheroes” seems so silly already to me anyway (same cause, why rivals?) and with these two? witty banter galore. 9. Decorating the Baby’s Room (Oikawa) - may is one of the best fluff writers i know so i knew this one was going to be right up her alley when we were calling dibs on which scenarios we wanted to write. i feel like she captures the fun (or funny) side of oikawa well 8. Silly but cute AU prompts: person A who sits in the back of every staff meeting and makes snarky comments under their breath about everyone the whole time and person B who arrived late and sat next to them and can barely hold in their laughter (Kuroo, Tsukishima) - did you mean me every meeting at work? when i read reader-inserts, i tend to remove myself from reality for a little bit because i know the reader isn’t always going to be characterized exactly like me because that’d be impossible. except may went ahead and wrote me into these whether she realized it or not 7.  Library notes (Akaashi, Yamaguchi) - this was my undergrad meet-cute fantasy turned real, or as real as reader-insert fanfiction. speaking from experience, i know it can be difficult to characterize akaashi sometimes because we don’t have a ton canon-wise to work with (thank you fanfic writers everywhere for filling that void) so i was definitely impressed with akaashi here. think it’d be neat if may wrote a part 2 to these with akaashi and yamaguchi leaving notes for the reader. 6. Victory Sex (NSFW) (Oikawa, Suga- see below 5. Pain Relief (NSFW) (Oikawa) - i really don’t have a lot to say about these other than they’re hot. may used the gif i wanted to use already so please see the above gif for my feelings on these 4. Silly but cute AU prompts: posted a joke ad in the classifieds but someone actually responded (Tendou) - this was my first introduction to may’s writing, so of course it already holds a special place in my heart. thanks to this piece, may solidified herself as my top choice for a new admin when I was searching for one. it’s light, fluffy, positive and the perfect introduction to her work.  3. Stealing the Remote (Tanaka) - i love tanaka, and there’s not nearly enough stuff with him as there should be. that being said, this is cute as all heck. i also love the sibling interactions between saeko and ryuu. 2. New Girl (Ushijima) - i’ve been in such an ushijima mood lately, so this is right on-point. like i said before, i remove myself from realty with reader-inserts and allow myself to be a different person for the sake of the piece, but for this one, it felt like something i might actually do (except for the being short bit, but again, i usually don’t mind). 1. Hitman!Kuroo falling for his target’s daughter (Kuroo) - i think this is a good departure from most of the fluff we’ve been writing, and the tone is pitch perfect here. perhaps it’s because kuroo is may’s fave and our best work tends to go into the characters we like the most (no shame in that!). i’m so pumped for part 2 of this (i was busy all day yesterday and haven’t had the chance to read yet)

real steel - lisTEN i couldnt stop thinking about this all day... selwyn is jaime’s former boxing coach... which makes brienne his old-and-soon-to-be-rekindled flame that practiced w him back in the day... cersei + robert are dead and there’s a custody battle over lil tommen.... jaime, his “nephew” tommen, and brienne teach Oath, the sparring robot some killer boxing moves and fight their way to robo championship, becoming a family

pacific rim - i found only one on ao3!! braime would totally be drift compatible and the best part is that cersei doesnt have to be evil here. in my drabble, jaime loses cersei and his right hand to a category 5 kaiju attack. cue angst. he retires as a pilot but decides to stay at the base to train cadets (the real reason he cant pilot anymore is because he keeps chasing after cersei in the drift, clinging onto her memory desperately ohoho). brienne is one of the cadets he trains but jaime cant stand her naivete and b/w outlook on the world (deep down tho, its because he once held the same ideals as she did that resulted in cersei’s death. he sees her as a liability to her future co-pilot) so he picks on her a lot. brienne, sick of his shit, boldly challenges him to a duel, setting the terms that if she wins, jaime has to stop picking on her but if he wins, she has to quit the jaeger programme. to NO ONE’S SURPRISE, the duels ends w a tie! i named their jaeger Ursa Maiden because... you know...

harry potter - WE COULD DO SO MANY THINGS WITH THIS... brienne the halfblood hufflepuff prefect and jaime the pureblood gryffindor troublemaker. rival quidditch captains? best duelers of their respective years? eventual auror partners? all three, because destiny has fated them to be together always? also consider: jaime was said to have murdered the then minister of magic but was not sentenced to azkaban thanks to tywin pulling a few strings. and honourable, hardworking brienne, the first hufflepuff and woman to get an Outstanding in DADA for NEWTS, the first person to best jaime aka the lion of gryffindor in a duel, and the one lucky enough to be mentored by auror!Renly. also i think we can all agree jaime would say “wait til my father hears about this” to get out of trouble

the walking dead - dudes i have not been able to stop thinking about this au too, like jaime and brienne from opposing communities, meeting each other during a supply run and fighting over a jackpot supply of Useful Things but when they’re just about to kill each other over it- SURPRISE! a convenient horde appears! they become temporary allies to survive, somehow saving each others’ asses along the way, jaime getting bit on his hand trying to save her and brienne repaying the favour by chopping off his hand to stop the infection, they spend a week in an abandoned cabin in the woods to recuperate, jaime bathing in the river with her where he explains why he had to kill the twd!aerys + possible romance, confusion w where they stand w each other and whether or not they can continue this fragile alliance if they go back home, jaime selfishly telling her they could just stay here in the cabin, start a new life together and never go back to their respective communities, brienne saying she can’t bc there are people to protect back home (from his people) so she leaves, jaime leaves too because cersei’s back home but he’s worried that the next time he meets brienne, it’ll be as enemies.... do y’alls feel this

mass effect - i friggin loved me3 multiplayer so i can totally see brienne as a n7 destroyer and jaime as a n7 slayer. the two of them would’ve made such a good team that they were considered instrumental to the reaper’s defeat on earth. also they totally survive the war and settle down in the citadel and adopt a bunch of alien + human orphans. maybe before the war, they were spectres who butt heads a lot bc of diff mission interests.

 Sabo’s a hero / vigilante who has a lot of powers but they’re all largely synthetic. His only ability was like….melding??? And when the govt. found out they used him as an experiment to see if they could get other people’s powers to bond with him, and they can but- Sabo can’t use them properly. He has the ability to breathe underwater but if he tries, his lungs will fill up with water and they don’t empty. He can make and control fire, but it doesn’t stop him getting burnt by it. He can turn invisible but he can’t see. Superstrength but no superbone density. All the minor parts of superpowers that people take for granted don’t come to him. 

Anyway I mentioned above the fire thing well Ace was totally the one that the govt. used to give Sabo fire abilities because they found out he was Roger’s kid (Roger, of course, having argued against having like, superpower registries and anyone not registered w/ the govt. being classified as a “villain” and maybe being the reason people had powers in the first place??? like, the govt. tried to keep it just for themselves but Roger was like whoops secrets! and revealed it all) and Ace having powers was just icing on the cake??? And they tried to take them and give them to Sabo and Sabo didn’t know about the cost of his powers until he tried to use them to get him and Ace out and he burnt. (His hands are the first things that get burnt. He gets used to using his left hand for writing and other jobs. His right is- harder to use.)

Garp gets them out because he’s- he’s terrified for these kids (and they’re just kids, he doesn’t understand this-) and gets people to give them other identities and Sabo and Ace rail against the govt. and throw them away basically and blackmail them and lots of shit like that but basically Sabo’s t e c h n i c a l l y on the hero register but the govt. hate him so they refuse to help if he’s in any shitty situations and h e y guess what.

(quick break before Ominous Shit Goes Down) Marco’s a villain! He used to be a hero, but…How do you explain to someone that you walked out of a fire that should’ve by all rights killed you, when their husband didn’t? How do you live with a bullet passing through your damn chest and hitting the child you were trying to protect? How do you be a hero when your powers are so inherently selfish? 

Sabo & Marco are in a few of the same uni classes together and though they don’t talk, Ace notices that Marco has some of the same habits that he and Sabo have; watching the doors and windows and mapping out escape routes and being uncomfortable if people get to close….And figuring hey marco probably wasn’t Fucked Up by the goverment but he definitely isn’t The Best and befriending Marco in efforts to try and help him because while Sabo’s a hero Ace has never been able to- just fight for strangers like that. But Marco reminds him so much of him and Sabo…. and they become friends and one day when Marco jumps when someone gestures a bit too quickly, Ace carefully asks if Marco needs any help and Marco looks at him and then realises what ace is asking and And Ace kind of Not So Subtly always says that his and Sabo’s home is open if Marco needs it as they become friends and mentions it again and Marco’s like are u…kidding. Dude. No. And takes him to meet WB and ace is like ohh. oh. But ace is still a bit of a Curious Fucker and ends up poking a little bit and being like

“So you’re not afraid whenever anyone sits next to you???” and Marco kind of laughs but also flushes bc he didn’t realise Ace was??? paying attention?? what other things has he accidentally given away. Like. Ace is so far off base w/ his suspicions, but the fact he’s curious about Marco makes marco kind of…Uncomfortable?? People being interesting in him only ends badly. 

Blah blah blah Ace finds out Marco’s a villain and technically Sabo’s archnemisis (even if like half the time Phoenix is just a tease and a bit of a jerk but Sabo Hates Phoenix’s puns) and he Freaks a little bit but also marco needs his help and marco’s still his friend so he pushes it to the side and spills it to Sabo later and Sabo’s like aRE YOU KIDDING ME???

Sab being a Sulky Kiddo and he goes along w/ it bc he trusts Ace’s judgment but also ACE PLEASE WHY ARE WE BEFRIENDING A VILLAIN and Ace has to placate him w/ lots of cuddles and kisses and assurances that ofc you’re my fave sab and no dont worry sab I’ll make sure to be careful around him and no sab i havent told him your identity, your safety is more important to me than him. And then Marco finds out that Ace knows Blue - like, because Sabo left his costume lying abt or smth, or Ace accidentally slipped when helping Marco fix his few seastone injuries and when Marco’s like “you’re good at this” his reply is “yeah i’ve had practice aha” and Marco can only think about what Ace thought about him before they knew each other better. 

“You know that the reverse offer…is always open to you too, right? Like…you offered your home to me, if you need to- get away from it, my home’s open to-” and ace is like wOOOOAHHH no Sabo is Not Like That don’t even??? insinuate that??? lowkey how dare you???? and he kind of goes “i do take care of other people, not just you fluff butt,” and marco’s like ??? other??? people??? and then he’s like WAIT is this why you said you had an emergancy button??????????????/ aRE YOU TAKING CARE OF HEROES TOO and ace is like fLAILING and he’s trying to lie and MArco’s like who??? who??? is it someone i know??? do you know their identity as well???

n O ace says, voice squeaking, and Marco starts laughing and puts his hands up and backs away and promises he won’t pry but Ace eventually starts sharing a few stories about the heroes he knows (because he does meet a few through Sabo) and Marco’s so obviously amused and…Ace made him promise never to use the information he’d been given against the heroes. 

(Ace makes Marco swear to never let Blue get hurt, because Blue is important to him, and Marco, who’s started to hear of the fire wielder that’d saved Ace when he was a child, starts to realise just in what way.) 

And Marco’s repertoire with Blue gets a little bit more friendly and teasing and Ace tells Sabo stories about MArco too and Sabo eventually, carefully, starts befriending Marco as well and Marco even as normal him uses sO MANY PUNS AND DO YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENS. DO YOU. SABO GETS SO FRUSTRATED WITH MARCO’S CONSTANT PUNNING THAT HE YELLS AT MARCO TO STOP BECAUSE HE’S HEARD ALL OF THEM AT LEAST TWICE NOW AND HE’S SO SICK OF PUNS!!!! ITS BEEN A WEEK OF HORRIBLE PUNS HOW MANY “I’M FEELING BLUE” PUNS DO YOU FUCKING NEED, MARCO???

And marco’s like Holy Shit. And sabo’s like Fuck I just Revealed my Identity. And they kind of stare at each other and then Marco starts smiling and he’s just like…”So….instead of feeling blue you’re….burning up with rage??”  aND HE GRINS EVEN WIDER AND SABO LOOKS LIKE HE’S ABOUT TO START YELLING AGAIN and!!! they don’t bring it up again but they know the other knows they just?? never?? use it against each other. 

ANYWAY BACK TO THE OMINOUS SHIT ™ so!!!!!!!!!! marco does a lot of thieving and likes to work with people because it’s easier and Look healing is helpful and all but it’s not like he can fucking fly like some other guys. (he can glide. There’s a difference, one that he’s Always been Annoyed by.) And his partners on this particular case are talking to him about how easy it’s going to be because they took out one of the most annoying things in their way and Marco thinks that they got a technopath to stop the cameras and other security systems but as he walks through the apartment w/ his from out-of-town partners that they’ve staked out before the heist and from the corner of his eye Marco sees this man tied to a chair and he’s like huh uhhh maybe they captured head of security instead???? And maybe he makes some sound, turns slightly, he isn’t sure, but his partner grins at him and signals to someone else and they tangle their hand roughly in this blond’s hair and yanks his head up. 

Marco winces reflexively because that shit ain’t nice but then his heart does a stutter in his chest and his eyes go wide, because that’s-

Dried blood crusted on his lips and a shiny, swollen cheek and this damning purpled bruise around his eye and-

He’s pretty sure those are fingerprints around Sabo’s neck

(And it’s Sabo)

It’s Sabo, mask in tatters and blue eyes half-lidded because he’s only just managing to hold onto consciousness

“You see why we said there’d be no interruptions, my friend,” Marco’s partner says, so fucking proudly, so smug and Marco can’t stop himself from taking a step forwards, can tell when Sabo sees him come into view because his glare sharpens just barely and his throat bobs (is that- fear?)

Sabo’s hair is let go and his head drops, in a way that makes him grunt because he can’t hold it up properly, and marco feels to-

Reverent to be touching sabo right now, knows his touch is to soft and gentle to be one of an enemy as he slids his fingers beneath sabo’s jaw and gently cups his cheek, tilting his head up. His nail catches on dried blood as he smoothes his thumb over the corner of sabo’s mouth, and Sabo’s still glaring but something else is in his eyes now, something that Marco doesn’t really understand-

(it isn’t relief and it isn’t gratitude and it isn’t recognition but he thinks…maybe it’s some combination of the three?)

“You utter asshole, I can’t believe I’m doing this for you, I hate you-” he kind of mumbles, but Sabo’s just barely leaning into his touch now, like it’s the gentlest thing he’s felt for days (and maybe it has been, and Marco can feel something angry growing in his chest now and it shouldn’t because this is his nemesis but he can’t- This is also sabo. This is Blue, and Marco promised Ace that he’d never see Blue hurt.) 

Gently brushes part of Sabo’s greasy, blood-matted hair from his face and Sabo blinks at him and half-mumbles, “ace….?” and Marco huffs grumpily and mumbles “wow you dick at least properly acknowledge who’s rescuing you” and he turns around to his partners and they’re staring at him like wait what what do you mean rescuing???

and Marco’s like  “oh yeah, sorry guys. Kinda promised a friend of blue’s that I would never hurt him to badly. If you hadn’t showed him to me i guess i coulda stood by….”

(he’s lying, he hates the fact that he’s lying, that omission wouldn’t have crushed him with guilt just as surely as it’s crushing him now, but he- can’t admit it to himself. How much he cares about someone he’s meant to hate.)

 “But….well, a promise is a promise. I’m sure you understand. If you could just let him go that would be great???”

“Let him go??????????? Uh no??? Do you know how long it took to catch him??? We’re not just letting him go!!!!” And Marco’s like u GAHHHH YOU KNOW I FIGURED THIS WAS GONNA HAPPEN BUT I DIDN’T WANT IT TO??? and kicks ass and protects sabo and knows that his reputation is going to suffer from this but nothing hurts worse than imagining how worried Ace’s face is gonna be when he brings Sabo home. 

Anyway, as well, after that MArco is Constantly trying to assert that he is a Bad Guy and poking and prodding sabo and being a Jerk but also unconsciously seeing sabo like, limp into a room and being like oh??? hit you to hard last night did I ??? need an icepack?? and he says it mEANLY but when sabo says yes marco just IMMEDIATELY JUMPS UP AND GRABS AN ICE PACK AND ANGRILY FUSSES/INSULTS SABO //and look Ace thinks it’s fucking hilarious but sabo’s really kinda confused bc he was out of it for a lot of his rescue, and he doesn’t remember the last few hours, he just remembers someone being so gentle w/ him and then being awake at home and feeling better and he thought that it was Ace, when ace was trying to take care of him. 

Marco doing nice things for sabo but having to taunt him before hand bc otherwise it’s not Antagonistic enough. He’s failing #villain status unless he insults sabo teasingly before hand/gets sabo riled up. Ace thinks it’s kind of hilarious, especially when he sees that MArco starts getting sUPER FLUSTERED whenever sabo gets riled up and yelling and his cheeks are bright red and his powers are Doing Things

Also more on Sabo’s powers; costs are usually Equivalent to the powers, like, he can use fire but it will burn him and he can grow things but they ain’t gonna be strong and shit like that and he??? uses lower cost powers around the house to do chores???? Ace is like sabo come on do ur shit properly ur gonna get a migraine doing it w/ telekenisis and sabo’s like yeah but this is easier and it’s only a minor migraine??? and ace is like [yelling] pls u dumbass

Bu t,,, sabo being raised and trained as this powerful being,,, as a weapon for other people to use ,,,, so him getting to use his powers for himself….Ace can’t say no to that, especially if sabo wants to do it. Even if it hurts him, it’s- Sabo hasn’t had many choices in his life, he should at least get to choose this. 

Ace doesn’t get burnt from his fire but sabo who does - and has - gotten burnt,,, who’s afraid of fire ,,,,Ace who represses every urge to use his powers because he knows sabo’s afraid, and besides what good could fire do???? like, sure, he can control it to some extent but…he’s never going to be a good hero. He’s to selfish. He cares about himself and his family and his friends and like….god he’d sacrifice anything for them, he’d do anything but he’s not….kind. He’s polite and he technically cares, and he’s empathetic to people’s struggles but- unless he cares about you, unless he thinks it’s part of what he needs to do and who he needs to be he just- won’t. 

Marco calling his powers selfish bc he can only heal himself and not anyone else. Saying that he couldn’t have been a hero, what would he have done? (How do you explain to someone’s husband that your survived the explosion that killed their wife? How do you say that you got shot and walked it off, and the child in your arms didn’t? He’s never known. He thinks he never will know.)

(He doesn’t want to know. There’s- to much guilt in him for him to survive being a hero.)

For an extra dose of pain imagine Sabo asking/pressuring Marco to be a hero and work beside him and MArco’s certainly strong enough for it and Marco keeps telling him to drop it but sabo won’t and one day marco’s patience is worn through and he gets up and rips a newspaper off the wall that sabo’s never paid attention to and slams it down in front of him. “this is why i dont bother wasting my time. People are ungrateful and shitty and-” (I can’t live knowing i survived and i couldnt save anyone)
