I see a lot of posts about Rook’s disconnect from the team, and the last post i RB’d made me think again about this, especially since i just got this quest again in my current playthrough.

I think it’s really lovely that it’s Rook that Bellara asks to go to Cyrian’s funeral with her, and in this instance I don’t think it’s part of the Veilguard’s collective attempts to help Rook with their grief (if that’s how you read what they’re doing, which is only an interpretation after all). I think she just asked because she wanted them to be there, which I did think was very interesting because in the event that Neve is taken by Elgar’nan, Bellara describes her as her best friend, a sister. And yet it’s still Rook that Bellara brings to the funeral. Yes Neve ends up being there in the end too, but Bellara didn’t know she was going to be (and is touched by it).

This is not me downplaying Neve and Bellara’s friendship, by the way. I adore their friendship! It’s more emphasising how important Rook is to her as well, romanced or not. idk, it’s a small thing, but I think there are so many moments throughout where Rook’s importance to the companions is obvious - i know part of that is Because Video Game and they are the player character, so they have to be there - but even in-universe … it’s Rook Bellara takes to Cyrian’s funeral. It’s Rook that Neve takes to Dock Town to have fish supper and skin stones. It’s Rook that Emmrich brings to his important ritual (reviving Manfred or lichdom). It’s Rook that Harding invites along for her emotional meeting with Stalgard and his sister. In all of those cases they probably could have brought one of the other companions, whichever one they’re closest to (or even in a relationship with) but they asked Rook! Because they care about them and wanted them there!!

i just think its interesting that the exact same blog made two posts one of which saying "no one is perfect, everyone's going to hurt someone on accident at some point and this isnt an excuse to stop trying or stop trusting" but the other saying "i hate disabled people who use their diagnoses as an excuse to be assholes". like yeah everyone should be given grace and forgiveness unless you have a disability and/or mental health condition that makes it difficult for you to socialize with others. then youre actually being intentionally malicious and using your disability as cover. which is the exact same excuse parents use to beat autistic children but apparently that passes as leftist progressive ideals on tumblr.

it just goes to show that a very large amount of people (online and in person) truly only care about looking good and not being good. if you actually believed the former you never would have said the latter. and if youre making up hypothetical disabled strawmen to get mad at then that makes you an ableist straight up
