I think I’m finally getting acclimated to student life and my new schedule! It’s still a big change, and almost all my free time is now occupied by yoga (in the form of yoga teacher training class, or regular yoga class, or yoga homework, or yoga mock teaching prep), but I think these next few months are going to go by a lot faster than I anticipated 🤍

Say, there aren't many "smart" people in the world is there? Most geniuses are either lost and the ones that did succeed currently rule over the world. With sheer power, wouldn't it be better if reasoning and logic were in the hands of a kind hearted minority like that? I doubt a majority of people would be able to pull off good reasoning like that.

I did it, I finally achieved a long-held dream of mine and successfully completed a yoga teacher training program 🙌🏻

It does feel kind of weird to walk out of ytt with a teaching certificate and the understanding that I’m not interested in doing that anytime soon, but it’s ultimately a very personal decision and one that I had been going back and forth on ever since I decided to finally enroll in a program.

There were a lot of factors that went into it that were both personal to me and also specific to the program that I chose (but I’m sure I’ll go into more detail in the future as I process it all).

On the personal side, I realized that I had underestimated how much I had changed in the decade since I first wanted to pursue teaching. An extra 10 years of living on this earth as a woman + living through a pandemic + a permanent switch to working from home meant that my tolerance and patience for certain interactions (mainly with creeps) had dropped to almost nonexistent. And I just wasn’t willing to put myself in those uncomfortable situations anymore.

(I’m also extremely introverted, almost to the point of anxiety, so there was probably a lot of wishful thinking on my part when in came to the reality of interacting with sweaty strangers on a consistent basis LOL)

On the training program side, I will just say that I wasn’t entirely satisfied with how the program was handled. I’m still trying to unpack everything, so I’ll leave the details for another post, but I’m honestly not sure if this ytt was the right one for me after all. While I do feel more confidant in my personal practice, I definitely didn’t feel empowered as a student or as a teacher during my training, and it affected me in ways I wasn’t expecting.

I am very proud of myself for completing the program and sticking with it even when I wasn’t sure I was going to make it (I got over the finish line with the wheels falling off lol 💀). The return to student life was...interesting, and a little rocky at first but also really invigorating, and I had a lot of fun experiencing a new environment and connecting with my fellow trainees who were from all walks of life. An unforgettable experience for sure, and I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how my journey develops from here. Stay tuned 🙏🏻
