I know Brook says the whole "I will protect you even if it costs me my life" about both Usopp and Sanji (the crew in general, too, but at that moment only those two). But I think there is something so personal about that sacrifice being directly tied to Zeff actually doing that very same thing when Sanji was a kid.

Sanji is not used to love and care from older men or, well, men in general. The first (and probably only connection) he has with that is Zeff and he ends up relating that sacrifice to parenthood and what a dad should be. And then Brook-- A man older and wiser and someone who they've basically just met, decides to do it too. Not only with actions but verbally stating he will protect him risking his life.

I am just saying that one can't have too many father figures after the shit Sanji has been through, and while he is far from home and far from his real dad, I don't think viewing Brook as a parental figure or a safe place would be far from the truth or what Sanji needs. I actually do think it'd be great for him.

OP Live Action Hype, Some Photos and Final Thoughts:

Overall Thoughts:

Y'all. The Live Action is very close at hand. I am extremely sorry to anyone who has had to tolerate my One Piece posting but I just cannot contain my excitement. It's one of my favorite series brought to life in live action. And even aside from personal preferences, it seems to be a huge passion project for the creators. They seem to have a lot of chemistry, and you can see that the actors are clearly passionate about One Piece. They've also researched the characters thoroughly, going way beyond surface level, and as a result have a perfect vision of how they should behave. Very nice to see an enthusiastic cast!

Cast and Production Team:

You can see that the actors are putting a lot of dedication and effort into this release, and so is the production team. And so far? It seems to be delivering a really polished final product, perhaps one of the only good live action anime adaptations. So I'm SUPERRRRR hype for it. It's only 2 days away now, so there's not much else to say, we can just kinda wait and watch. I can't wait for Iñaki Godoy to encapsulate Luffy perfectly in the Live Action. Also looking forward to Mackenyu and Emily doing their bit well.

Sizeable Budget:

A notable thing worth mentioning is that the overall budget for the live action is 138 million USD, which results in around 17 million per episode, which is really high for a Netflix adaptation. While money doesn't make a good show, they seem to have put the money to really good use. The props and sets are all super amazing and realistic. I hope this show turns out well, both for the audience as well as the team working on it, and also for the larger world to see that good adaptations are possible.

Unclenapped Buggy, my heart.

I feel like Buggy and Sanji would also get along really well, it's similar to Buggy and Robin's dynamic but also Sanji just loves to feed people so having a Buggy who hasn't had decent food in a while and would likely appreciate it? Sign Sanji the fuck up.

Sanji would offer to listen to or just give up the smallest pieces of his past up before Zeff and the rock. Mostly because Sanji wants him to know he's not alone. Also their hair, they both take really good fucking care of their hair. It is a running joke on the Sunny that no one but the ladies and Chopper can touch those two's hair because Buggy is trying to grow his hair out again and Sanji grips his hair so tight when he's worried that he probably rips some out.

Also Buggy would sit in the workshop when it's just Usopp and it's quiet and he makes a buggy bomb from his childhood with stuff that's lying around and Usopp is happy to have a friend to make dumb bombs with. Especially for pranks. Buggy admires the aim of the sharpshooter and his knowledge of bomb making.

I absolutely love the idea that Sanji would love cooking for him! But consider this: not only did Buggy not have decent food, he doesn't even remember what it tastes like. And sanji wants to know all his crew members' preferences, but how would he know Buggy's when he has no idea what anything tastes like?

So for the longest time Sanji made it his goal to introduce Buggy to ad many meals, deserts, snacks and beverages as possible. And that makes Buggy so incredibly happy. At first maybe he's not sure of it's not all a trick, because he's still not used to receiving niceness, especially if it's unconditional. But he soon realizes that Sanji does it because he genuinely cares.

Oh and I love the hair bit! (cw for mention of torture btw) When you mentioned Chopper, I bet he made some kind of lotion or special shampoo for Buggy to help it grow normally. And I love the idea of Buggy and Sanji being the cleanest because I feel like Buggy would be obsessed with feeling and smell nice after being kept in the disgusting cell with no way of airing out, no toilet and no way to shower. (Closest to a shower would be if they waterboarded or tried to drown him, though even then, it was in seawater)

Usopp and Buggy would absolutely exchange tips and tricks for bomb making. And they've tried making, at least once, a firework that blows up in the shape of one of their faces. Usopp used to cheer Kaya up all the time when she was sick, so Whenever Buggy gets that distant look in his eyes or coughs (from the permanent damage he no doubt got from all those years in the cell), he starts telling his stories. And the best part is - it works.

Another thing they kind of bond over is that they're both first to hide if a situation escalates, but are also first to protect each other if needed (a bit like with Nami).

Which also reminds me: Usopp would probably make a special weapon for Buggy just like he did with Nami. It wouldn't be a gun, because he still sees himself as the only sharpshooter in the crew, but I can't think of anything atm...

Baratie is the best set so far hands down

God i love Taz's Sanji. He had three lines of dialogue but his was the first straw hat that inmediately felt like the charecter

Also Zeff, i have nothing negative to say, perfect Zeff, perfect with Sanji. Perfect duo.

Garp. I fucking love this Garp so much. Him and Luffy just screaming at eachother and throwing canon balls at eachother from their ships was so funny. I want to see where they go with it but introducing Garp this early was a really big move for the LA and i think so far it payed off.

MIHAWK. Not even necessary to point out how perfect the costume is but Steven Ward got the tone of the charecter perfectly fucking right!!

Sure they deleted Don Krieg but i actually didnt mind it in the end? There was no actual 'bad guy' but i liked it. I thought all episodes now would follow the syrup village format of stablishing the villain in the first ep, ending with a cliffhanger and the next ep had the full third act kinda battle. But the plot needed to slow down, they needed to give more time for the crew to bond and Baratie first half is the perfect moment to do that, and also an opportunity for the rest of the crew to get to know eachother without Luffy as a conduit (he was busy being a busboy). So yeah, i dont mind they didnt even introduced Krieg this ep as the villain of the arc, bc we got Zoro and Nami playing drinking games, Luffy and Sanji talking about dreams in a quiet moment at the kitched, and drunk Usopp busting some moves.

Oh god Mihawk's and Zoro's fight. It was almost exactly like in the anime, and i usualy hate frame by frame replications in adaptations of this kind, but that fight was iconic and perfect, they knew they didnt have to mess with that. But not only that, it was perfectly executed. It managed to capture the same emotion as the anime (something that other key moments so far fail to get it right spcially in backstories and flashbacks)

Again, kudos to Mackenyu for all the sword fight, holy shit they are becoming my fav things in the show

Ehh could'e been better:

There were only two moments in this ep that made me go :/

Luffy's argument to get Zeff to accept the IOU. Luffy never cared about status and what being King of the Pirates would mean, he dont care about having hand or the benefits the title would bring him. Pulling that card felt very strange, the most natural thing for Luffy was to just stare at Zeff dead in the eye and just say he's broke af

Nami not leaving. Stealing the ship and leaving them at Baratie was huge deal and what prompted they way into Arlong Park. But more of a plot point it was huge for Nami's charecter, bc she was still trying to convice herself that she hadnt become friends with those idiots, bc she still hated all pirates, bc she still tried to present a cold 'i dont need no one' kinda facade. But LA Nami had already admited not only that she was friends with the boys but also that she was part of the crew. Thats ok but now the issue is that her stealing Merry makes little sense, and even leaving at all makes little sense. Dont get me wrong, i love this Nami and i like the direction they gave the charecter, but i think maybe they neglected a bit her own personal growth and inner conficts, which is what sets te base for everything that happens to her at Arlong Park later on

my review (ish) of whole cake island saga/one piece until chapter 902 (obv spoilers until then)

originally my fav arc was alabasta. then water seven/enies lobby. then it was impel down. then it was punk hazard/dressrosa. but then...whole cake island... actual emotional rollercoaster

the best part of this arc was definitely how human some of big moms kids were. my fav new characters introduced in this arc were pudding, chiffon, brulee and katakuri. i wish that big moms kids will all escape from her.. oda writes abusive families a lot, even the 'good' parents will beat their kids in one piece, i guess thats just the world they live in... but when it's a bad parent... oh man.

i managed to somehow not get spoiled about sanjis family at all, i was pretty shocked abt the reveal. i love reiju, even tho she was complicit in/a bystander to a lot of the abuse sanji suffered, i dont think there was anything more she couldve done. she saved his life multiple times over. i really hope we get to see her again.

but the best character in this arc was pudding. her mood swings/evil personality/tsundere gag wasnt the funniest ever but she was genuinely so human.. the way i kept going back and forth like.. is she just pretending to be evil? is she pretending to be in love with him? is she gonna betray him?? AND THE KISS... i actually ship sanji and pudding just a little ..

like i actually cried here. her arc was just chefs kiss(lol) amazing.

my other favourite antagonists were brulee and katakuri. at first i didnt like either of them, but after how much the gang bullied brulee i started to feel sorry for her and grew fond of her. i also always end up having a soft spot for odas 'ugly' female characters since it's just such a breathe of fresh air inbetween all the uncomfortable fan service (honestly the fan service kinda ruins a lot of scenes)

i didnt think there would be any deeper connection between brulee and katakuri until the very last moment, and this scene is one of my favourites in the whole series

like. brulees SMILE. the scar. katakuri was just defending his sister.. also the way flampe thought she was the favourite sister. nah!! thats brulee!!! i fucking ended up really loving her. i mean without her powers being abused by straw hats they wouldve all died. sorry brulee, you didnt deserve that... i hope mama didnt punish her after. also the way that katakuri was glad luffy got away!! he gained so much respect for luffy during their fight. Also i love how hes lowkey a jojo reference (and your next line will be...)

the way that a lot of big moms kids think theyre monsters is so sad.. but these three are just my favourites. i honestly love them. this arc is really about family bonds.. blood family and found family especially.

like sanji calling zeff his father multiple times and denouncing judge, but still hes such a kind person he had to save his blood family anyway. SANJIIiii. man. the way he really is. truly. KIND. i hate whenever hes being a complete pervert, sometimes its funny when hes in the respect women mode but when hes just being a creep i hate him. but this arc made me appreciate him a lot more, and i can kinda forget abt all the weird stuff.

when he was crying in the rain, lost all hope, and luffy gives him the light again..

i like that men are allowed to cry in one piece. like kyros cried all the time after being turned human again, and sanji cried multiple times in this arc. i cried at this scene as well.. luffy really out here saving the lives/souls of his whole crew. hes such a pure bright star..

lastly this scene!! CORAZOOOOONNNN!!! luffy didnt even know about that..the way he held his mouth shut and forced a smile to make sure his crew wouldnt be worried.

if i didnt know that he was gonna survive i might have actually thought he was gonna die

the annoying part about one piece for me is the plot armor tbh. theres no stakes, bc i know none of the straw hats can die. idk if id want one of them to die but it would bring some real shock to the readers. like the gang will pretty much always win by some trick in the end, sometimes its funny like how usopp defeated sugar, but sometimes it feels like a bit of a cop out. but i think luffy and katakuris fight was believable, the only gripe i have with it is that it was dragged out a biiit too long. this arc couldve been a good 5-10 chapters shorter if oda hadnt dwelled so long on things.

also i love love love how lola became relevant again and chiffon wanted to repay the debt of nami saving her twin sister, also mamas vivre card coming in clutch lmao. nami was epic in this arc, she went up against big mom without losing her shit too badly. i love her sadistic streak lolll. cant forget brook in this either, he was hilarious.

finally. RIP pound. a great father. also RIP pedro. two good guy casualties in one arc, is oda finally permakilling people?

overall id say this arc was a 9/10. -1 point for being a bit dragged out and the fan service with reiju.

my thoughts on mihawk is as follows: hAWT man with a lot of Daddy potential. but because i know NOTHING about this man (literally other than like.... "big sword swing good") so i can't say i have TOO much of a muse for him (yet) but then again, who knows what'll happen in the future haha. i didn't think i'd get sucked in to the sanji-verse either but HERE I AM LOL

i do think that mihawk is super compelling as a supporting character. obvi my personal fav supporting character is zeff LOL i've randomly featured him in like more than half of my opla fics

Seeing the Sanji gaining weight after wci post immediately after the SH body types post made me wonder if your Sanji is... actually underweight/close to underweight? Like it doesn’t seem quite Sanji-Zeff dynamics to remain distressingly underfed dispute an athletic lifestyle but at the same time, ‘Sanji doesn’t believe he deserves more food than some unfeeling distant guide to correct living tells him he does’ feels very correct. So I imagine he stress eats during WCI and gains like 15 kilos and then post wci loses maybe 5-7 of those kilos, ultimately coming into equilibrium at something closer to a healthy body weight now the true depth of his trauma has been laid bare & accepted by the straw hats

Oops! You activated my deep Sanji headcanon trap card! Lotta words below (CW for talk of disordered eating)

I definitely drew/see Sanji as being a little underweight due to a difficult relationship with food, which I tried to hint at in my notes, but I tend not to say it outright that often because it always invites people with weird attitudes about disordered eating/underweight bodies/etc. I also tried to contrast between his "repose" and the other characters' to show how his body fat percentage tends to stay lower, while the other characters fluctuate (e.g. Zoro) or stay at a higher BF% and end up with less visible muscle definition as a result (e.g. Usopp).

To be totally honest with you Sanji has a lot in common with people at risk of disordered eating - traumatic childhood, being told he was worthless, especially based on his failure to achieve physical 'perfection', total deprivation of control over his earlier life (both when he was on Germa and when he was starving with Zeff), specific lack of control over his food (starving with Zeff especially), a love of food that manifests in preparing food for others' enjoyment rather than his own, and general difficulty accepting his own self-worth (running to Germa in order to save anyone, his difficulty accepting that Luffy wanted him as his chef, his attempt to sacrifice himself at Thriller Bark, etc).

People have misconceptions about what an eating disorder is, and whenever I try and bring it up, there are people who say he could never have one because "he starved once, why would he ever go hungry again!!" (when food scarcity especially in early childhood is a HUGE contributor to developing disordered eating) "he's a chef he loves food" (not everyone with an eating disorder hates food) "he's not underweight" (I mean, thanks to their overrepresentation in media people don't always recognise what underweight bodies really look like, especially when those people are also muscular, but to wit, you do not need to or want to be underweight to have disordered eating) "he's not a teen girl" (eyeroll emoji)... and not even touching the worse comments that dump on people with disordered eating etc. in order to insist their fav could NEVER, as if it's a moral judgement to have an ED, and implying it would somehow be an insult to Sanji.

Fact of the matter is most people's disordered eating has nothing to do with how they look, though I think you could also make the argument Sanji meets that criteria, too (I don't think a dude whose most defining character trait - tied with his eyebrow - is that he covers half his face 24/7 could be described as "confident in his appearance"). Most eating disorders emerge from a lack of control, which is like... Sanji's whole thing. He had no control over his life at Germa, he had no control over his situation on the rock, and we can see how fastidious he is about other aspects of control in his life as an adult. Monitoring his food intake down to the kilojoule is a very likely way he might deal with the trauma he's gone through. There's also the desire to make invisible/internal trauma visible, like other forms of self-harm. I think Sanji both wants people to worry about him and also wants nobody to know anything is wrong with him whatsoever and so it could easily manifest in passive ways like this - Zeff or Nami etc. worrying over "have you eaten enough?" is much easier for him to process and accept than anyone recognising his internal trauma.

All this to say, I think Sanji - probably without even consciously realising it - has a complicated relationship with feeding himself that manifests in him maintaining a borderline-underweight BF% for reasons that have absolutely nothing to do with his appearance. I don't think he would've been underfed while at the Baratie, but I still think he would've been developing controlling compulsions around food that would've grown more once he left that environment and was solely in charge of not only his nutrition, but an entire crew's.

I think he probably tries to make sure he eats enough, mostly so that he can still be a useful and functional Straw Hat, but it's a manual thing. Like he doesn't realise until he's back underweight again and starting to notice the effects and has to pour butter over all his meals for a few weeks, lmao. And I think he definitely struggles emotionally with the idea of not "deserving" or "earning" certain foods, and using food (or lack thereof) as a way to punish himself. Add on to the fact that he's been smoking since he was a kid so his appetite is probably shot to hell, and I think you just have a guy whose natural inclination is not to eat more than absolutely necessary and oh, oops, he has a whole ship full of people he loves more than anything he has to feed first, guess he'll just have to make do on the scraps.

A few others have also pointed out the aspect of weight gain as a form/result of healing from trauma, and I can totally see this for Sanji, too. Comfort eating often stems from the exact same reasons as restrictive eating, control/lack thereof again being a major one. I don't think he would have to lose any of the weight gained in order to be happy or healed, though. Maybe he would gradually lose some of the weight he gained during WCI, maybe he wouldn't, but I think overall the arc works as a very appropriate backdrop to explore Sanji working through and starting recovery from disordered eating on top of his recovery from his other traumas.

Day 2 of my dad watching one piece:

Keeps telling us he falls asleep but he's in baratie. Loves sanji and zeff duo (told him the truth about zeff eating his leg and he freaked out). Thinks zoro is weak since he couldn't beat captain kuro easily (tf man😭). Likes Johnny and yosaku. Keeps comparing usopp and my brother. Loves buggy so much, kinda dislikes zoro but eh he'll see.

I wrote quite a lot this year and even got back to writing in english, which is amazing, the last time a wrote a story in english was back in 2013 I think! 

So there is Adoption, a One Piece fanfiction in french I wrote back in may. I really love this one, I wanted to write something about Sanji (my fav) and his adoptive father Zeff and I think I did great. I plan to translate it.

Next, it’s Thunder, a Thominho fanfic I wrote in french (again, I’m planing on translating it. I just need to write in french in order to not lose my skills and it’s still my first language). This fic is sooo cheesy, I can’t even explain, but I really worked hard on it.

There is also Important, a Thominho fanfic I wrote for the Thominho Week 2020. Writing angst is not so easy for me and I always have to write an happy ending because I hate sad endings, but I think I did well in this one and I just love writing Thomas and Minho has best friend because that what they are. This fic is also in english, so another thing I’m proud of!

Another work I did for the Thominho Week 2020 is Touch-starved. People really seemed to like this one best, so I’m really glad! I really liked writing this one, going through Thomas’ feelings for Minho... It turned out well even though I wrote this fic in one day without that much review.

The last one is First Snow, a fanfic I first wrote in french and then translated it. It’s short, but I really wanted to write something about snow and Thominho, two things I’m in love with. It’s soft, calm and I really like how it turned out!
