Okay but can we talk about Katniss and snow having brilliantly opposing symbolisms?!?
Throughout the series, Katniss and her rebellion are not so subtly symbolised by fire. The begins as the girl on fire, riding into the capitol on a literal chariot of flames and proceeds to have many fire themed struggles. The second book is called catching fire, in the third she says "if we burn you burn with us"
I don't have to prove this to you, Kantiss is fire
And equally I don't have to prove that snow is snow. Cos crazily enough, Snow is snow. It's pure, it's blinding, it's cold and calm and can appear wonderful, but is truly ruthless and cruel.
And what do we know about snow and fire?
Well, fire melts snow, but in doing so, fire is destroyed. The act of melting the snow puts out and weakens the fire, slowly shrivelling it until nothing is left.
That is, of course, unless it is fed and kindled and protected.
The act of toppling snows empire nearly destroys Katniss, many times over, but it is through Peeta's kindness that she is reborn. Rebuilt. Reignighted.
And the best part about these opposing symbolic representations, is that snow has every capacity to destroy fire. If snow can smother fire, suppress and suffocate its flickering form, there is nothing fire can do but wilt. The snow will barely even feel it.
The only hope fire has, is to grow to such a blaze and so fast, that there is no hope of snow to hold it back.
And so she does
And it is glorious

On Peeta's more difficult days, he lies in bed buried underneath the bedsheets for hours, muttering symphonies of real and not reals. Katniss likes to run warm baths for him. She especially collects lavender flowers from the woods to craft her own oil and use it for Peeta's baths.
Katniss softly whispers the shaking boy awake and convinces him to take a warm bath to feel better. She guides him to the bathroom and places him at the edge of the tub, slowly removing his prosthetic, shorts, and shirt. She still blushes looking at his figure even though they have been married for 10 years. Katniss gently guides him inside the silky water, struggling to get him into the tub as he's way heavier than her. Katniss runs his soft blonde hair through the water and places a dollop of shampoo in his hair, gently washing it. Peeta moans softly as her hands massage his aching scalp, whispers of 'thank yous' and 'you don't have to do this' echo through the room. Katniss shushes him and continues to work all over his body. She then helps him out of the tub and makes him sit on a stool as she dries his body with a towel. Peeta just smiles at her foolishly as he watches her work the salve over his stump. Katniss bends to kiss his eyes tenderly and pulls a shirt over his head. The boy protests against her actions, saying 'she's done more than enough' and ' he can do the rest himself' , she smiles and brings down her lips to his and says, "Baby, you just let me take care of you."
Katniss takes him back to bed and holds his head against her chest while softly brushing the soft curls off his forehead. He asks her to sing, and so she sings, lulling the scared boy to sleep.

Roommate
Part 1 | Part 2
This is all I had planned, but I might be convinced to write a small addition (in which Peeta has the strangest week)
Thank you all for reading!! I’ve been kicking my feet over the commentary in the notes and reblogs!! 🩶🩶🩶
Her sister’s scream wakes her. Katniss blinks into the sudden brightness before checking her phone: 5 am, well past last call. “How was your date?”
“Jesus Christ Katniss! You scared me! Have you been there all night?!”
“Well I couldn’t stay at my place, could I? Didn’t want to risk being there if you went home with Peeta last night… Which you obviously did.”
Prim stays at their childhood home between semesters of med school. Even with their mother working the night shift, It was a safe bet that Prim wouldn’t try to bring someone back here if she could help it. Then Peeta had text at 9 pm to ask if he should expect her that night, and it was as good as hanging a sock on the door. That’s when it really hit her. She’d sent a single word response before putting her phone on do-not-disturb and waiting in Prim’s room for the awful night to be over.
“Ah-ha!” Prim points triumphantly, “So you admit it! It bothered you, didn’t it?”
“Yeah! I fucking hated it! Are you happy?”
“But why Katniss?” she affects a too innocent air, “I thought you would be happy if Peeta met someone you approved of.”
Katniss stares up at the ceiling and exhales, “because I like Peeta, alright?”
“Just like?”
“Don’t push your luck.”
“Fine,” Prim says, dropping to sit next to her, “and yes: I am a little happy. So, now that you’ve finally admitted it, what are you going to do?”
“I don’t know… Move probably?”
“Don’t be so dramatic.”
Katniss scowls at her sister.
Prim huffs, “I was at Rue’s, by the way. We went to the Hob to dance last night and then I slept off the buzz at her place. You’re lucky I had to come back early to get ready for work. You would have been sitting here in misery till well after brunch.”
“He still agreed to go on a date with you.” Katniss hadn’t wanted to believe Prim’s assertion, so on Wednesday she’d asked Peeta if he’d wanted to go to happy hour with her at the end of the week. He’d said he was meeting a friend for drinks, and that was all the confirmation she’d needed. It hurt, but she’d convinced herself it only bothered her because he hadn’t trusted her enough to be honest.
Prim rolled her eyes, “I was fucking with you. I asked him to meet up to talk about your birthday. Told him not to mention it to you or you’d try to tag along and it would ruin the surprise. He’s not an idiot. He’d never hurt his chances with you by even feinting interest in me.”
“Please.”
“Are you kidding me? He’s not even trying to hide his feelings. I don’t know how you can breathe in that apartment with all the pent up sexual tension.”
She probably should never trust Prim again, but Katniss allows herself a small bit of hope that what she’s saying is true, “You’re the worst.”
“Yeah, yeah. Rue agrees, if that helps. She said I was the asshole and that I owe you an apology... But she didn’t think it would work either, so jokes on her.”
Katniss snorts.
“But seriously; I may have gone a little overboard, but the next person won’t be doing it for your benefit. Now, get out of here and do something about it.”

Ya'll are actual geniuses.
I just want to add something, since we've established that Peeta is sustenance itself, it makes it all the more perfect when Katniss says she feels 'hunger' for him.
okay okay okay BUT okay follow up so
Katniss is a provider, yes? and it’s very hard for her to let down her guard and be provided for, but Peeta manages it, and is one of the few that can … as so in a real way, for the hunter, Peeta represents sustenance
and this gets me thinking … Peeta is an artist, and his first encounter with Katniss is seeing her as a source of beauty, of song, and subsequently, he paints her, both on canvas and as the canvas, and is not shy about telling her that her beauty is his weakness (this boy, I tell you) and so for Peeta, the artist, Katniss represents beauty
and (hear me out) isn’t that just a lovely reversal of “bread and circuses” (this sense of excess) to “sustenance and beauty?” (things we need to survive)
and I need to go stare pensively out a window about what all this means
oh… my god. OH MY GOD you are a genius. YES.
love as food but also love as art. and the way it slots perfectly because love for katniss IS food, her providing food — her confusion over her love for gale being centered around the fact that they both provide each other with FOOD. but then to our peeta reading, peeta IS food for katniss. he *is* bread, he *is* the dandelion, he *is* sustenance and nourishment and being provided FOR instead of being the one providing. peeta is food that doesn’t have to be hunted — he is soft baked bread and gathered greens and a helping hand that gives instead of taking. peeta = bread = panem.
and then there’s love as art. love as something that so many deem to be frivolous but in reality is what makes life worth living. love is a song sung by a five year old, love is the color of the sky that is the same bright orange as the flames of your lover’s dress. peeta paints katniss over and over, katniss IS art to peeta. she is beauty for no reason, not a decorated cake made to be sold but something that’s beautiful for the sake of beauty. katniss calls it his weakness, but peeta simply calls it having an eye for beauty. if peeta is the food provided for the hunter, katniss is the muse that inspires the artist. so katniss = art = circuses.
PANEM ET CIRCUSES. they complete one another, they’re two sides of the same coin, they’re the missing piece to the other’s puzzle.
but then… they’re also those same things themselves. peeta loves katniss as an artist because what is peeta also! peeta is a PERFORMER. peeta is “circuses” — “if it werent for the baby” “because she came here with me” but then katniss loves peeta as a HUNTER. and katniss is food herself, she is her own nourishment, her own kind of “panem,” right down to her name, “if you can find yourself you’ll never go hungry”
everything is love and everything is food and everything is art. it’s the dandelion: the beauty in the flower, the nourishment in the roots. oh god. it’s all coming together. please excuse me while i go scream into a pillow

What's your headcanon for Katniss and Peeta's children?
How old was Katniss when give birth to their daughter?
How many years apart between them in age?
Your headcanon for their name?
Who gets the singing and art skill from their parent?
Bonus question : please give recs of your fav everlark post-Mockingjay fanfic.
Thank you :)
@curiousthg
✨️Oh god! I love this question, thank you so much! ✨️
My favorite headcannon is that the first daughter is very desired by both of them. And they take a long time because they want it so much. They want it to be perfect and at the right time. Pregnancy and postpartum hits Katniss very hard, it's very difficult for her. But after the baby grows a few months she starts to really enjoy being a mother. Willow is such a sweet and smart baby. Fill their house with her cries, then her laughter, then her heavy footsteps, then her questions, then her singing voice. It fills their home with life and happiness that they haven't seen in many years. Peeta and Katniss are able to enjoy life more after she is born, and they fall in love again. The first daughter makes them want a second baby (something that wasn't in the plans).
By my count, Katniss gave birth at 32 years of age, 15 years after the war. And her second child she has at 35 years old. So Rye and Willow are about 2.5 years apart.
About names... Rye and Willow! It's a name that has been circulating in the fandom for a few years and I really love it.
Rye is Peeta's deceased brother, but not only that. It's the name of a food and besides food, the other thing that keeps K&P alive is everyone they lost in the past. Rye is a tribute to those who couldn't get here. And also because when the boy is born, Peeta finds him very similar to his middle brother. A little boy makes Peeta very emotional about missing his brothers.
Willow is for the tree in the lullaby. It's a safe and happy place. Katniss decides on this name after she discovers is a girl. It's a tribute to the little girls in her life who didn't have the chance to become women. It is also a tribute to Katniss's mothers and father who named their daughters after plants, she wants to maintain the family tradition.
About who gets the talents! They both sing a lot, Katniss sang to them all the time when they were young, so they both have a love for music and they both sing. . But Wiilow has Peeta's charisma and loves being the center of attention, while Rye is very shy and only sings when he is alone. So is Willow who always clears her throat and starts singing loudly whenever she has the opportunity. She has a much more powerful voice than Katniss, sings with vigor, and has a deep voice. She's very good at that. In addition to singing, she also writes music. She starts creating rhymes about Rye, making fun of him and singing all day to make him mad. Then when she gets older, she starts to write about all her romantic disappointments. And I believe, she breaks your heart so often that her parents start to worry.
Now Peeta's artistic talents go to Rye. Rye, being a 14 year old boy, loves to say that he is actually a hunter, not an artist. But all of Rye's arches are carved with designs he made. He loves drawing and carving in wood and when he is a teenager his fingers are all injured from the amount he cuts himself doing so. He doesn't draw much on paper, but he's always creating something. Or making bread in the shape of animals. And Peeta is extremely proud about it. He wasn't able to explore his artistic talents at Rye's age, so he does what's best so the boy can. He gives him expensive art supplies for his birthday and always hangs Rye's sculptures on the wall. He's the slobberiest dad ever.
I could talk about toast babies all day.
Instead of talking about my favorite fanfics, I'm going to talk about the post-MJ fanfic I'm writing.
The fanfic is about Willow studying to be an army nurse like Prim was. The world is different now, there are no more wars, but it still makes Kantiss very nervous about the idea. So there's a lot of mother-daughter drama. Willow is very angry and rebellious and Rye is very shy and attached to his parents. It's about the Mellark family dealing with generational trauma and Peeta and Katniss trying to help their children understand the world. And how difficult it is to explain to those children who were raised with a lot of love that there is a lot of hunger and a lot of evil out there. And also about parents who have to let their children grow and mature. It's about love, it's a famfic about family.
Well, it was a very long text, but I'm very happy with this question!
Thanks, non. 💞

an unpopular take : i don’t think peeta’s prosthetic leg detaches. my interpretation is it was surgically put on and so therefore the only way it can be removed is through surgery.
this comes from the fact that he slept next to katniss all those nights and she never mentions him desiring to remove his leg or aching became he didn’t remove it. some argue this point because he was probably too bashful or self-conscious to take it off in front of her at that stage of their relationship. which is why i’m saying katniss doesn’t give the reader the impression he’s uncomfortable because he didn’t remove it. if he was meant to take it off and let the remains of his real leg rest, katniss probably would have casually dropped a hint somewhere about that.
the second reason which kind of piggybacks onto the first. the quarter quell. katniss never mentions peeta desiring to remove his prosthetic and rest. she never implies his leg is in pain from overuse of the prosthetic while in the arena. she doesn’t suggest he is even uncomfortable wearing his prosthetic 24/7 for days on end in the arena. again, i’ve heard people say in the past “he couldn’t have taken it off in the arena because…” i’m not saying him not removing it while in the games is the clue that his leg is not detachable. i’m saying the fact that we got no implications that it was even a desire on his part to remove the prosthetic is the clue. he didn’t run slower or seemed to have any issues with his prosthetic that was imply overuse or anything like that.
and my last reason is the most convincing to me. peeta was rescued in mockingjay with his prosthetic still on. if snow’s men wanted to torture him, removing his prosthetic would be a basic starting step. they would have wanted to keep him weak so they could abuse him and hijack him. if his leg came off, it would have been a pretty easy decision to take it away so he’d been helpless. and yes, i suppose they could have given it back right before the rescue because we know snow was letting them take peeta, in hopes he’d kill katniss for him. but again, if peeta was hospitalized and all that in thirteen for a while, to heal physically as well as mentally, at some point shouldn’t the doctors there have taken his prosthetic off? let the stump take a break? and if this was happening all along, if throughout the series peeta was detaching his prosthetic regularly, how is it that katniss somehow missed every single time it happened.
also peeta eventually joins the star squad and katniss once again doesn’t make any sort of note towards peeta about how he must want to remove the prosthetic, rest his leg, how his leg must hurt from the overuse. not even during the “i’m so tired, katniss” moment.
so anyways. that’s my interpretation.

Of course Rye eats raw dough.
I think a lot about late 30's Katniss and Peeta.
At the end of a long day of work, Peeta is not so strong anymore and his body is already giving in to his bad leg. Hips always sore, legs always tired. He comes home whining, even though he never refuses to hold the little girl and boy in his arms who are so excited when he gets home.
Before bed, Katniss helps him take off that prosthetic. Clean it, massage it to make the pain go away, kiss it to make it feel better. Peeta feel so vulnerable at first. The most exposed part of his body, the one where they cut his flesh and sawed his bones. He is ashamed of the scar. So Katniss's hands and eyes there are intimidating.
But it's good. Her hands make the pain go away and make him feel loved. She always does it while making small talk. "Did you know that Rye likes to eat raw dough?"
"Really?" he responds, trying to mask the pain in his voice.
And after a while, her soft hands on his leg always end up moving up a little too much on his thighs, and get under his underwear.
And his moans of pain become pleasure.

🤧
Imagine having your legs spread for a touch starved priest, inviting him to stroke your cunt. His fingers shake and he's so nervous until they make contact and he breathes a shaky sigh of wonder. Imagine guiding his hand and praising him as you show him just how to please you. He can't even speak as your slick coats his fingers. Imagine the sharp intake of breath as you reach into his pants to stroke his cock. He stammers weak prayers, begging for god's forgiveness as you kiss the corner of his mouth and grind into his fingers. He can't take much more and holds your hips as you stroke him, forcing you to grind on his thigh in order to get off. When you've finished he hides his face as he cums, moaning pathetically.

I actually think about this quote all the time. Like can you imagine Katniss who's supposed to be super scary and fierce with her bow and arrow, hiding in her 'not' man's shirt. Like be fr girl.
I guess this is true, but I can’t help feeling upset about [her using the tourniquet causing Peeta to lose his leg] to the extent that I’m afraid I might cry and then I remember everyone in the country is watching me so I just bury my face in Peeta’s shirt. It takes them a couple of minutes to coax me back out because it’s better in the shirt, where no one can see me, and when I do come out, Caesar backs off questioning me so I can recover.
this is such an insane quote. even here peeta means safety and protection to her. even without her recognizing it consciously. which is probably why this quote is under looked a lot of the time. but then also peeta and caesar have to spend minutes just gently talking to her to get her to lift her head off peeta’s chest???? she just sat there for multiple minutes with her face buried in peeta’s arms???? because he lost his leg and he means that much to her that she’s about to cry over it???
oh yeah, snow. i’m sure no one was convinced katniss loved peeta for real 🙄

It's so sweet that even though Peeta was in an arena of death and has almost died multiple times in the last few days, he still takes a pearl and gives it to Katniss in the sweetest way possible. And even though she is electrocuted and fights for her life, she still manages to keep it.
Like, they're such soulmates

I’ll probably edit this one*
Just some Everlark fluff
enjoy💝
It’s been almost a month since Peeta came back to 12. We spent that time with each other, it was healing but hard at the same time.
I try to understand my feelings for Peeta. I know I love him, but I don’t know if I’m ready to be in a relationship. How could I think about that when so many people died? I’m ashamed for the way I feel when I see Peeta in his garden, his blonde curls covering his forehead and a little part of his temples. I’m ashamed of how much I love the way his blue eyes flicker whenever I compliment his cheese buns… And now, he’s lying next to me, mouth open, his face squashed against the pillow.
Without even realizing, I put my hand in his hair and play with it. Peeta murmurs something without opening his eyes, so I let myself study the boy with the bread a little longer.
“Katniss, I can feel you staring”, he says, smiling.
“No, I’m not”, I reply, suddenly greeted by the blue eyes I know so well. Peeta raises an eyebrow and I groan:
“So what if I was staring?”
“Nothing, it’s nice. I like when you stare at me.”
His hand wraps around my waist, bringing me closer to the warmth of his body. I could stay like this all day, Peeta’s chin on the top of my head, my fingers tracing circles on his clavicle…
“Hey, who’s Naomi”, I ask.
A few days ago, a blonde girl came to Peeta’s house. She was tall, slim and had the aspect of a healthy person- her cheeks rosy red, her skin a little pale. I can’t say I was jealous when I saw her talking to Peeta, or when Peeta opened the door, smiling at the sight of her, or when she went into his house and spent almost 2 hours there… fine, maybe I was a little jealous, but I’d never admit it to him.
“How do you know…”
“I heard you talking to her last week. I had my window open and yeah… Not like I was spying on you!” I wasn’t completely lying. Naomi’s high pitched voice was what drew my attention.
“Oh, she’s Rye’s wife… was”, Peeta replies, a sad smile on his face, “I try to be nice to her since, you know, she has no one but her baby and her brother in law.”
I feel stupid for asking. How could I believe Peeta would be seeing anyone else? After all we’ve been through, he wouldn’t leave me…would he? We’re not officially together, so he could see someone else and I’d have no right to judge him. The thought of not sleeping next to him and another person feeling the warmth of his strong arms drives me insane.
“Why? Are you jealous?”
I look up to see the blonde boy smirk. It’s better than seeing him sad, but I still roll my eyes:
“Yeah, right”, I blush and try to bury my face in his neck so he won’t notice, but his fingers bring my chin up so that I’m looking into his eyes again.
“Oh, my God, you are! You’re blushing”, he laughs.
I sit up straight and hit him playfully:
“No, I’m not!”
Peeta raises an eyebrow and I can’t help a little smile:
“Shut up.”
“Come here”, he says amused, now sitting up and pulling me into his lap, “It’s adorable when you’re jealous.”
Our faces are so close… too close. I can’t give in, I can’t do this to Peeta, I don’t deserve his love. He saved me so many times and all I did was hurt him.
“No one else ever called me adorable, Peeta”, I barely whisper, closing my eyes, so that I can’t be tempted by him. God knows I can’t keep myself together when he looks at me with those puppy eyes.
“No one else really matters”, he says, his warm breath lingering over my lips, making me lick them without realizing.
“Peeta…”
And it happens. I can’t control myself, my hands around his neck, I bring him even closer to me. It’s the hunger I’ve felt before, the hunger that makes me behave like a selfish animal. And I am selfish for bringing him into this, for not letting him get the life he deserves with a normal girl, not a fucked up 19 year old that’s been through the Games twice and started a revolution… but God, did I miss him on my lips.
“Katniss”, he pulls away, gasping for air. I take the opportunity to look at him again, like I did this morning: his curls are even messier than usual. This satisfies me because it was my hand who did that. His cheeks are flushed, his lips swollen, his chest going up and down, trying to get more air. I can’t help but imagine Peeta with nothing on, lying in my bed in the morning. My cheeks must be burning like crazy and I mentally scold myself for thinking about it.
“Did you hear me”, Peeta asks amused, bringing me back to the present moment.
“What?”
“Kiss me again?”

in light of police across the country cracking down on pro palestine protests with brutal force, it feels like a great time to remind everyone to shut the fuck up around cops. don't make small talk, dont act friendly, don't fucking engage with them!! if you are arrested DO NOT speak without a lawyer present. protest organizers, get into contact with local pro bono lawyers who can be there for your arrested comrades. no matter what, if cops are there, shut the fuck up unless you are actively doing a protest chant. dont tell cops why you were there, dont tell them if you're affiliated with the school you may be protesting at, dont tell them if you came there with anyone, dont tell them anything!!!
