MARCH TAROT SPREAD
There were so many energetic options to pick from when deciding what to theme the spread of the month for but I landed on growth and prosperity

1. The seeds I am planting to attract new opportunities and abundance
2. The nutrients my seeds are asking for to grow and thrive
3. The "weeds" I need to prune from my life that have been blocking my intuition

Sometimes I get too caught in the the shoulds and coulds. Then it’s a spiral.
How has my life led me down this path? What could I have done differently.
Nothing. I believe I’m where I need to be. I can build happiness where I am right now if I turn around and look for it. Happiness is a discipline.
Where do you find your happy?

A Call for Community
I’ve been reading a very sad, fascinating book lately. It’s brought up some thoughts about spiritual community and, especially, how important it is now and in the immediate future. The book itself is called A Well Trained Wife by Tia Levings. I know - Red flags immediately. Stay with me here.
In this book, Tia explains her experience with religion over time - from being a teenager where “going to church meant I had the power to make everyone happy” to being a wife in the thick of an Evangelical Calvinist sect. Specifically, in a few separate spots, she mentions how it was often frowned upon for the women to gather, to make friendships in the church. The men and the Patriarchal leaders in charge would frown upon it, or even outright forbid it.
Women without community were simply more vulnerable. Submissive. Less open to what Could Be.
Now I want to specify before we go any further that I identify as non-binary. I use they/them pronouns, wear a binder, and have historically been incredibly uncomfortable with femininity in regards to myself. I am, however, female presenting to the general public. There is your disclaimer. The points Levings makes, while she writes about women, are applicable to all.
We see this frequently, I think, throughout history. The best way to control people is to seize their communities, break them up, or pervert them to your desires. Native American assimilation, the conversion of Pagan deities and figures into Saints, the Witch Trials. The historical talks and theories about the rise of Patriarchy. All different but with a similar, bitter aftertaste.
Preventing a diverse community and breaking up the pack allows for the hunter to pick off the wanderers, the thinkers, the rebels all that more easily. Convincing people that their salvation is in the hands of someone else. Isolation to control. Bring them back into the fold of the Church, under one umbrella of thought, but not too close. You don’t want them to gather to form their own thoughts now, do you? Let me tell you how to eat and dress and live, and if you do a good enough job maybe you’ll make it into Heaven! Convert others, convince yourself that you are saving them, don’t listen to their Original Thoughts! Clearly, that is the Devil Himself. Hate anyone that is different because they just seek to bring you into Damnation. Don’t worry. I know you’re struggling with that - Just be quiet and I’ll tell you how to think.
Control comes from fear, from sameness. Rinse, repeat.
So why now, why this call for community? Clearly, community building can turn into something horrible. I am calling for discernment here.
Community has the potential to be something beautiful. It can be a space where people with many viewpoints can come together to share and meld ideas. Collaboration breeds innovation when it is built with respect and discernment. And what do I mean when I say discernment? I mean using your Critical Thinking Brain and your intuition both. Let us not be led astray by beautiful influencers promising to sell you spiritual awakenings on a silver platter for the low price of $2,500 (Do you see how similar that is to the promises of organized religion?). Does a community start to give you an icky feeling, the shadow of “Something isn’t right here…”? Leave it immediately.
Beware of the Echo Chamber - if it’s always the same ideas circulating around, watch for polarization and extremism.
Beware of the Cult Leader mentality. No one person can save you.
Beware of anyone trying to sell you Spirituality at absurd prices. $50-$200 for a class is normal. $2,500 is not.
Beware of anyone asking you to do anything you aren’t comfortable with.
Humans need connection. We need the ability to form relationships with other people that mean something. People to love, people to bond with, parents, children, mentors, teachers, students, guides, enemies. For some, the relationships that we build define our place in the world. We need a system that we can rely upon for support, to keep us company and to help us in our darkest times. Specifically in regards to spiritually, it can be immensely helpful to connect with those deemed “Other” by society that share similar views. Will Megan the Christian Neighbor understand when you’re discussing energy movement and directing will? Possibly. More than likely, no. Others can, they can validate you, commiserate with you, and stand in support of your goals and trials both. They can provide you with resources and hope and love. They can teach you, or allow themselves to be taught by you. They can make you feel less alone. And of course, there is always strength in numbers.
Finally, for as much as I love the internet, I urge you to seek out real connections as well. Find a local Witch/Pagan/Spiritual group you vibe with (but leave if they ask you to do something you’re not comfortable with - I cannot stress this enough), talk to your neighbors, give and receive support and gratitude. Go to the library. Start a group, if you’re so inclined. Volunteer to give back to the community. You are not going to agree with everyone and I can hazard a guess that you may even get into arguments with others that hold other beliefs. That’s okay. Hold space for that and move on. Be respectful.
Before the world changes in the next month - In a world that seeks to divide, come together with those in your community. When bad things happen, fall back on the people there to support you. Remember that most people are simply trying their best. Thanks for reading. Go in peace.

Introduction
Hello. Welcome to my blog. I have no clue yet where I want this to go or where/if it will, but this is my scream into the void.
I go by Solomon online and magically and I am a witch. I have been for almost 11 years now, off and on. My path through witchcraft has not been a straight or narrow one, but whose has been? Isn't that the beauty in it all?
I'll warn you, I'm not a "good" witch. By that specifically, I mean I'm not an aesthetic witch. I don't have a beautiful mahogany cabinet filled with fresh picked herbs from my backyard garden on the full moon when it's in Cancer. I don't have a giant cast iron cauldron full of magical potion or with a roaring fire. I do have two cats, and that's about as far as I've gotten. Right next to me right now is a cauldron-shaped mug filled with steaming coffee, what I whispered my intentions into. Most days, my witchcraft gets as far as a small chant in the shower as I frantically rush to get ready for my corporate job because I've hit snooze too many times. Maybe if I'm feeling particularly charged that day, I'll light a candle or read my tarot cards for the day.
So why now? Why make a blog in the Year 2024, when short form media is the norm and Tumblr continues it's slow death... I have no idea. It's familiar, it's bringing me back to 2013 and the hours I've spent on this platform wearing many different masks over the years. It's a space where I want to pull together at least some form of community to make it feel like I've contributed somewhere, anywhere...
So I'll leave now with a small ritual. It's simple and easy and you might already be doing it anyway.
You'll need: a cup of coffee (quickness, speed), vanilla syrup (sweetness, love), milk (spirituality, love), and a spice of your choice (I like cinnamon - abundance, prosperity, and quickness)
Assemble your coffee grounds. I add the herbs/spices into the ground beans before brewing. Whisper to them and ask them nicely to aid you in your day. I pray for extra luck and abundance throughout the day.
Brew your beverage.
Add the vanilla syrup and ask it nicely to add extra sweetness to your day.
Add in the milk/cream to taste, asking it to help you connect to whatever you believe in.
Before you take the first sip, take a deep breath and think once more about your coffee, what it means, and what you want to bring forth in your day. Don't overthink this, just take a moment.
Drink, enjoy
