With the last post being made, it’s now summer vacation! Mod Hiyo and I decided that with a new summer break here, we’re also gonna go out for vacation! Which means... We’re unfortunately gonna put this blog on a hiatus until summer break ends. Fret not, though! We’ll be back soon with more posts to come!

The theme won’t be changed until we come back (unless Mod Defo decides to reset it to Defoko or Hiyori lol). But you’re welcome to submit UTAUs for the next theme or for a signal boost post! We’ll address any and all asks when we return.

Due to various issues, neither of us have been able to post for a while. Sorry! Anyway, summer is here! Here, have an UTAU who’s sort of related to the theme!

Kou Umine (海音コウ) is a Japanese UTAU voiced by Seika Kaikou (海光錆架). Her voice is described as something like “female, but the voicer is aiming for a young male voice.” Because of this, her voicebanks are (unofficially?) divided into two groups. Cool = masculine (Kou-kun/コウくん), whisper = feminine (Kou-chan/コウちゃん). All the voicebanks are bright in tone, and even the whisper voicebank is fairly deep. Kou has one CV, one VCV, and one CV+VCV set.

It seems as though Kou is female, but she’s fine with being viewed as a boy. Kou is 17 years old and described as a “black-tailed gull anthropomorphic android.” She eats and drinks like a human being, but she’s also rechargeable (note the USB port). Like a black-tailed gull, Kou likes fish and biscuits, and she has a tendency to lose things. The thing on her waist is a recorder, which she often plays.

Also, she’s featured in an RPG! I wish there were more UTAU video games. I might play this one since it looks really high quality... who am I kidding, I’m terrible with RPGs

umine.net is supposed to be Kou’s website. However, at the time of posting, it’s inaccessible. The VP is aware of this, so it should be up in the near future! Possibly with a new URL, so let’s hope I remember to update this post accordingly...

Sibella (シベラ) is an UTAU created by Canadian user NegaiUta (or muni-is-never-ready, as shown in this ask w). She is meant to be a bilingual UTAU, having both a VCV Japanese and Arpaising English voicebank within her directories. They are meant to be used interchangeably. Her voice type seems to depend on which voicebank is being talked about. Her Japanese voicebank seems to have less power and a bashful tone, and therefore be quieter than her English voicebank. Her English voicebank seems to be louder and more out there, if you know what I happen to mean. Either way, I’m impressed at how I was able to understand her English voicebank. (@The person asking for black UTAUs, here’s one you can use!)

As stated earlier, Sibella moved to Japan to study abroad. She is 19, and has a huge interest in both Lolita fashion and music. Here, don’t worry- I won’t retype everything w She’s also very passionate for the things she loves, and can go “over the top” with those things. How cute!

Heyo, same person who requested Beth! I'm quite sure that they don't have gender, not that it's unknown.

Yeah, I think you're right. It's listed as "uncategorized" in the readme. (I downloaded Beth's voicebank because of this and I plan to keep it, so thank you for requesting them!)

As per tradition with the month’s posts, I shall now make a post featuring the lucky (or rather only) submission for the blog’s theme.

Beth (ベス) is an UTAU created by mi (巳早). They are a VCV voicebank, being tripitch. Their voice, if I could describe it, seems to be smooth and gentle, but doesn’t delve into the more whispery parts when it comes to voice tones. The voice is feminine, around midrange I’d say.

Other than finding out that Beth’s gender is either unknown or nonexistent, I was unable to find any further information on the UTAU. If more information is found, this post will be updated. Other mod here with updated info! Beth has an unknown age and uncategorized/nonexistent gender. They like fruit, but they don’t actually need to eat to live. It’s unknown how long Beth’s lifespan is.

June’s Blog Theme UTAU

I forgot to make the post, didn’t I?

Alright, four days late... But we can manage!

You know what comes next, of course!

The blog theme for this month will be centered around Beth (ベス), who was created by “Mi” (@_HAY_a on Twitter). However, this also means that Beth cannot be the theme for this blog again.

The blog has been adjusted to have its theme center around Beth. If the creator of Beth would not like their UTAU to be used as the theme of the blog, they are welcome to step up and tell us. That being said, Mod Defoko is pretty blind so please notify the mods if the blog theme hurts your eyes.

Funfact: I’m typing this as I listen to the entirety of the demo!

Kokkeisha Megumi is an UTAU created by Hattie (also known as “J0EY”). She has a pretty deep and mature voice, probably being somewhat close to even being androgynous! 8:56 is a prime example of how crazy her range gets, since it goes into the super deep notes without sounding like it’s straining. The voicebank being displayed here is a KIRE voicebank with five pitches, so it’s definitely expected for her to have much power regardless of the note she’s hitting!  She also has an old bi-pitch VCV but I presume we don’t talk about that w

Megumi is a self-proclaimed “World-Famous Comedian” despite being far from globally famous. That being said, no one really knows if her last name is her actual one since it translates directly to “comedian.” She prefers Manzai in Japan and Standup in America as their respective types of comedy in each country. Her ethnicity is stated to be Hispanic. Here’s the funny piece of info: Guess what animal she’s associated with. A rabbit? Nah. Dogs, because she has three of them? Nah. It’s a roach.

Haru Torres (トレス春) is an American UTAU created by tomatetoro. He is canonically Hispanic, and this is reflected in the accent of his voicebanks. But more than that, he has a uniquely “pouty” tone that I’ve never heard in another UTAU before. His Regal VCV voicebank is multipitch and multiexpression, but he also has an older monopitch VCV bank. An Arpasing bank is in development.

Haru is timid but sweet, with two main tendencies: princely mannerisms and cat-like mannerisms. He often adds “nya” to his speech. While he’s easily excited, he’s also easily embarrassed. Haru likes tomatoes, spicy food, and cute things. His character screams “soft and huggable” to me!

Lilies are very dangerous for cats, but his design has lily motifs...

Her name is Ame Sugar. Her age is “Between 14 and 20″ which is a broad range, but that means her age can simply be set anywhere in that range and still be considered official. It is also supposed to reflect Ame’s theme which is stories and growth. Think of Ame as not a static character, but as a character who actively goes through a storyline, grows, and changes.

Sexual content of her is not allowed. However, shipping her with adult characters is. She is supposed to represent me, but is NOT me, so I’m fine if you want to ship her with characters who are minors. Just be aware it is fiction, and I will as well.

Name: Ame Sugar, 飴シュガー (The kanji for Ame is the one meaning “candy”)

Age: Between 14 and 20

Birthday: February 4

Release Date: August 4 (Her half-birthday)

Notable Relationships: Yowane Haku (Good friend,) Kasane Teto (Friend,) Defoko (Friend)

Character item: Cupcakes, strawberries, her giant magical paintbrush. Her paintbrush is called Whimsicalibur. It can create 3D objects (mostly useless,) and Ame can ride on it as if it were a broom. As a magical girl, Ame can also use Whimsicalibur as a weapon and to cast magic.

Personality: Ame is generally optimistic, playful, and idealistic. She can be overly-dramatic and silly at times. However, she can be moody and has surprising moments of seriousness and reflection, especially when feeling down, which people don’t expect. She usually conceals her emotions behind smiles and jokes. She relates to Yowane Haku’s low self-esteem and is often found trying to make her smile. Ame is usually cracking bad jokes. She is a magical girl who fights negative emotions with magic of hope.

Info about the voicebank:

-Recorded using Oremo. I did not use the recording music to assist me as I found it made my syllables sound awkward when elongating them.

-I used moresampler to make the Oto.

-Currently, only one voicebank with one pitch exists with good enough quality. (Two, as of August 13.) That would be the two I have linked you to.

-The voicebank  called CANDY has a mildly “cute” tone, a bit forced admittedly. Not a very big range, especially in lower registers, as it is (currently) only one pitch. 

-The SPARKLE voicebank is my natural voice, recorded in three pitches with a possible fourth coming. Much wider range.

-The recommended resampler for Ame is moresampler. I recommend use of the Mt flags to make her sound softer or stronger depending on the song.

-Ideas for additional voicebanks include my natural deeper voice (SPARKLE), a KIRE voicebank with a more mature sound (CHEER), an airy whisper bank (DREAMY), and one utilizing a very low tone that I can do (NIGHTFALL).

Border is an UTAU created by Razor. They have 2 CV and 1 VCV voicebank. The CV voicebank in the demo above is soft and feminine(?), and it has 3 pitches. All of their voicebanks have 3 pitches!

Border is a 1290 years old, genderless spirit tasked with protecting the border between the human world and spirit world. They reside in a human’s body fused with plants. Blackcurrants grow on their neck and head, but nobody is allowed to touch them. They're weak because of their age, but they are also calm and wise. Border absorbs sunlight to live. The power of photosynthesis!

Ameuta Nirechi (飴唄ニレチ) is an UTAU created by Otsuki Metro (大槻メトロ). His voice is meant to be that of a youthful adult. He has a CV voicebank, and also a VCV (or CVVC?) voicebank if I read that correctly (disclaimer: Mod Defoko’s Kanji comprehension skills are still as rusty as the leaking pipe you probably forgot to fix in the basement). He is marked as Ameuta04: Caramel. 

Nirechi likes seafood and family, but dislikes fire and having vegetables over and over again. Now, this is the UTAU in the group that resembles a train conductor (don’t get it mixed up with Nipo like I did). The archive stated that he had somewhat of a ghost train conductor theme. His age isn’t identified, but he’s definitely old enough to be an adult. Honestly, I really find the themes behind the Ameuta voices and designs quite charming, if I do say so myself.

Shei (谁) is an UTAU created by Versailles. Their voicebank type depends on the voicebank, as they have a Japanese CVVC, hybrid and a delta-type English voicebank. Their voice is a mature feminine-like type, and is often smooth and suave for the most part. At the higher notes, their notes are stronger.

Shei is said to be someone not advised to argue with, and is sarcastic and self-centered. They are said to be very quick-witted as well. Their gender is listed as “feminine-leaning,” but they use they/them as their pronouns.

UTAU Theme for June!

Alright, time to put this up before anything else happens!

It’s time to gather UTAUs to select as the potential blog theme! As usual, please submit or reblog/comment an UTAU’s name and creator (to avoid confusion) on this post to submit an UTAU to be the center of this blog’s next theme! Remember: the UTAUs will all be put into a randomizer. Any UTAUs who were not chosen as the theme previously will be thrown into the randomizer as well (unless the person who submitted the UTAU withdraws them). If no more than one UTAU is submitted by the end of the month, the one UTAU will be chosen as the next month’s theme by default!

Nearly everyone knows this guy, so it's not exactly a "signal boost"... but there’s the unofficial tradition of posting about the theme UTAU every month, so here we are!

Matsudappoiyo (松田っぽいよ) is a Japanese UTAU created by Matsuda Toki (松田トキ). What can I say about his voice that hasn’t already been said...? Nothing, really. His voice is generally cool and calm, but there are strong voicebanks as well. I think his voice is kind of “light,” too. Or maybe bright. Something like that.

Matsudappoiyo’s character name is Matsuda Souta (松田爽汰). He’s 18 years old, and he likes blueberry soda. He was discontinued in 2014 but made a comeback in 2019 (his 9th anniversary)! Reportedly, his voicebanks had also been made available for a brief time in 2016-2017 due to an album being released. Although there is no personality listed on his website, he was initially portrayed as an unmotivated, possibly lazy sort of person.
