We are super excited to welcome Dr. Mary Coffey as a new member of the Advisory Board of Arquetopia Foundation. Dr. Coffey specializes in the history of modern Mexican visual culture, with an emphasis on Mexican muralism and the politics of exhibition. She also publishes in the fields of American art, Latin American cultural studies, and museum studies. She has published essays on a broad range of visual culture, from Mexican folk art to motorcycles to eugenics exhibitions. We are thrilled that Dr. Claudia Brosseder has recently joined us as a new member of the Advisory Board of Arquetopia. Dr. Brosseder is Associate professor of colonial Latin American history at the University of Illinois. Brosseder’s research focuses on the indigenous world of colonial Peru, as well as on the intellectual history of colonial Peru in a transatlantic setting. She is particularly interested in reconstructing the colonial Andean world from the vantage point of the Andean people. Over the course of her studies Brosseder has gained expertise in two distinct areas of scholarship: the intellectual history of early modern Europe and the history of the colonial Andes. Her book The Power of Huacas. With much excitement, we welcome Dr. Susan Aberth as a new member of the Advisory Board of Arquetopia. Dr. Aberth is the Edith C. Blum Professor of Art History and Visual Culture at Bard College. Aberth’s teaching interests focus on Latin American art, African art, Islamic art, and other religious art and practices. Her additional interests include African religious practices in the Americas; and the art and iconography of Freemasonry, Spiritualism, and the occult. In addition to her 2004 book Leonora Carrington: Surrealism, Alchemy and Art (Lund Humphries), she has contributed to Seeking the Marvelous: Ithell Colquhoun, British Women and Surrealism (Fulgur Press, 2020), Agnes Pelton: Desert Transcendentalist (Phoenix Art Museum, 2019), Surrealism, Occultism and Politics: In Search of the Marvelous (Routledge Press, 2018), Leonora Carrington: Cuentos mágicos (Museo de Arte Moderno & INBA, Mexico City, 2018), Unpacking: The Marciano Collection (Delmonico Books, Prestel, 2017), and Leonora Carrington and the International Avant-Garde (Manchester University Press, 2017), as well as to Abraxas: International Journal of Esoteric Studies, Black Mirror, and the Journal of Surrealism of the Americas.
