Please hear me out on Shauna having borderline personality disorder… She has extreme abandonment issues likely stemming from the divorce of her parents and an intense attachment to her favorite person, her best friend who was here before that trauma and with her insecurities, she always felt less than her. That lead to her rapid emotional switch of caring for Jackie to having intimacy with her boyfriend to get back at her for her own issues. And that’s before the crash, mental illness is only amplified with heightened situations AND with pregnancy because of increased hormones. Of course, this led to her splitting and saying awful things at Jackie after she felt betrayed (not saying she was right to in this situation) by Jackie for yelling at her. Not to mention, her repeated changing of getting mad at someone, like Lottie, to switching to do a kind act out of guilt and paranoia. This instability highlights why Shauna wanted to stay in the wilderness, to me, in here, she was allowed to be selfish and hate without extreme social consequences because she wasn’t treated for her BPD.

By the way, I’m definitely not saying she canonically has this nor am I diagnosing her as someone who doesn’t have this disorder but this perspective intrigues me and I’d love to hear from someone who doesn’t have this to see their point of view.
