thoughts on katelyn??
We don’t know pretty much anything about Katelyn as a person. She’s a cheerleader, she’s Aaron’s girlfriend, she’s also on the path to medical school.
I’ve seen great representations of her in fanfictions that I’ve enjoyed. I’m happy that she and Aaron got to be together in the books, they deserved that. However, I don’t seek out fanfiction or other content about them. I’m a big Kevaaron shipper. I like a bit more depth to my relationships than what we have for Katelyn and Aaron, there’s simply not a lot to go off of for a girl we know nothing about.

Kevin never stops being himself. He’s always critical, always a bit of an asshole, especially to his Foxes. But at the end of the day, even when he plays in the pros, even when he makes it to the US Court, he never once stops calling them HIS Foxes. In every interview, in every introduction, even in private conversations. They’re HIS Foxes, and god forbid anyone who isn’t him has a bad word to say about them.

@hyperfixation-fix I think if the series showed us anything it would be that Andrew and Neil are equally inclined to sacrifice themself for one another (Neil Ending Their Deal and Going to Evermore For Andrew Josten). It’s definitely a hard one.
rank AFTG characters by most likely to survive an apocalypse
Okay so I have two answers. Answer one involves the Foxes going completely on their own personality and merit. Answer two involves the fact that Andrew would simply not let certain people die.
Answer one goes like this from most to least likely to survive
1. Andrew Minyard
2. Neil Josten (cockroach)
3. Renee Walker
4. Dan Wilds
5. Matt Boyd (below Dan because she’s more strategic and a solid leader, he’s bigger but that means he’s a larger target, plus he’s destined by laws of trope to die protecting Dan if the situation arises where one of them has to go)
6. Aaron Minyard (medical skills are valuable to him and to others even if they want him dead no matter what sort of apocalypse)
7. Seth Gordon (I’d actually rank him much higher if he wasn’t drug dependent)
8. Kevin Day (Princess. Babygirl.)
9. Nicky Hemmick (Princess. Babygirl.)
10. Allison Reynolds (Princess. No one’s baby girl lol)
The second list goes like this
1. Andrew Minyard
2. Neil Josten
3. Renee Walker
4. Aaron Minyard
5. Kevin Day
6. Nicky Hemmick (he’s not this low because I believe Andrew loves him less than Aaron or Kevin, but he doesn’t have a deal with Nicky)
7. Dan Wilds
8. Matt Boyd
9. Seth Gordon
10. Allison Reynolds

and rank aftg characters based on how much you like them
I actually did this a few months back and you’ll see that my rankings do change (except for number 1 and number 10), mostly based off of who I spend more time thinking about and obsessing over. If you want a comparison you can scroll back a bit. I also only included the Fox players in this.
1. Kevin Day
2. Andrew Minyard
3. Seth Gordon
4. Nicky Hemmick
5. Aaron Minyard
6. Neil Josten
7. Matt Boyd
8. Allison Reynolds
9. Dan Wilds

opinions on thea?
I do not believe Thea to be a particularly likable character, but Nora doesn’t exactly write her to be. We don’t know her, not really, we don’t get her thoughts, she’s never engaged in any on page conversations that are about HER. I believe after Kevin’s books are released I’ll go through and make a comprehensive post about her character and my opinions.
For now my opinions of her are based on a few simple opinions
1. Her and Kevin’s relationship is not healthy or capable of fostering growth or healing for either of them, whether or not their age/school years/or the way they got together was moral. Not to be self important, but to quote myself in a previous post, ā€œKevin stayed latched on to Thea the same way he did alcohol, night practices, and the memory of his twisted broken brother (his forever partner).ā€
2. Thea is a cult victim. Bad things were done to her, she has done bad things to others. She knew horrific things happened to others and did nothing, others knew horrific things happened to her and did nothing. She never knew the full extent, she didn’t know because she didn’t want to know, when she was told outright she didn’t want to believe it. She was brainwashed, she had a life before to know different. Jean and Kevin were children, she was not. There’s no perfect moral answer to the abuse suffered by those in the Nest, and we see this in Jean’s series.
3. Her conversation with Jean did not make me like her any more, I disliked her before, disliked her even more after, and will likely continue to do so until I learn more about her to counter that. However I do not view her as a monster, or a bad person, nor a good person. A broken one, an abused one, a brainwashed one.
Overall I believe that she will always remain un-healed in a way that will shackle both her and Kevin unless they were to separate. She’s too attached to the Ravens, to her identity as one of them. At the end of the day I’m not ready to make a full assessment until after Kevin’s books.

Give me an AFTG opinion you have or a character you’d like to hear my opinion/feelings on, something of that sort, and I’ll respond. Comment or send an ask and we can have a chat! It’s hard to find people to talk AFTG about and I know you have Thoughts… let’s get something going.

@itsachlys I’m responding to your comment in a post because my response got too long for a comment and I thought it was worth it’s own spotlight!
Itsachlys comment: ā€œSometimes I think this fandom has a twisted sense of mortality that doesn't allow the characters to be human and thus be flawed/act in a way a saint wouldn'tā€
My response:
I totally agree. People crave complicated characters, and Nora wrote some of the most complicated and complex characters I have ever had the pleasure of reading, and yet the fandom seems determined to turn them into caricatures or cardboard cutouts of tropes. None of them are perfect, none of them made the right choices every time. They aren’t perfect victims of their situations, who respond in the designated socially acceptable ways to their traumas. And instead of celebrating these facts the fandom picks and chooses who to elevate to angel status and who to demonize.
I find that in these situations we usually find characters like Andrew, Neil, Renee, Jeremy, and Jean lifted to angel status, which destroys their narratives, erases their humanity, and takes away the power and pain behind the hard (sometimes impossible) choices they were forced to make. Meanwhile I see that characters like Kevin, Aaron, Seth, and Nicky are demonized, to the same detriments that occur when certain characters are given angel status listed above, but additionally causing them to be forgotten, abused, berated, and rewritten by the fandom.
Outside of their individual characters, relationships are also harmed by this. You can’t write or generally create anything regarding these characters and leave out their relationships, which are such a central factor to the books. Even characters who aren’t given an incredible amount of direct on page time together, we still see their relationships and how those relationships impact them through bits of dialogue, through their pasts, through other’s perspectives, through their limited actions we do see.
Demonizing Kevin doesn’t only harm his character personally, but harms Andrew, harms Neil, harms Jean, who no matter how complicated their relationships can be, love Kevin and who Kevin loves in turn no matter how he struggles to show it in a ā€œsocially acceptableā€ (neurotypically acceptable) manner. In turn, demonizing Nicky doesn’t only undermine his own character and past, but also undermines the choices he made to show up for his cousins, Andrew and Aaron’s relationships with him, his relationship with Erik and his relationship with the team who he so badly wants to be close to.
We can’t allow our own emotions and biases to completely cloud our view of characters. It takes away from the fandom, making it a more toxic and divisive place. It takes away from the art and writing we create, our ability to tell stories. And most importantly it takes away from the character’s complexity, from the complexity of their relationships.

Trying to read Raven Neil fics but Kevin is written as a piece of shit or basically another villain in what seems to be like. Every single one. Who blames Neil and Jean for everything and is a selfish self centered abuser basically. While Jean is a perfect victim and best friend to Neil, and Neil is a selfless sacrificial lamb who protects Jean and Kevin but of course can’t stand Kevin and also still manages to go against Riko and the entire mafia single handedly.

Being a gay trans teenager is so lonely relationship wise. Cis gay guys have no interest in you. Cis straight guys are still attracted to you if you haven’t started medically transitioning but you have zero interest in them because you’re a gay guy, and once you start t or anything the attraction they had before is gone. Other trans guys are twelve, straight, coupled up, or looking for an odd ā€œparental/older sibling/mentorā€ type relationship where they’re always sad and you’re always there. And then there are cis girls, who think you’re a lesbian or see you as a guy but of course, you’re gay.
