Don’t mind me just thinking about how objectively hilarious that in every Blue Beetle Run (except the Young Justice run where the Scarab just never told Jaime their name??) Jaime ends up shortening Kadji Da to Kadji.

Like yeah Kadji is a great name and it makes sense- but it’s also a

Like Kadji is just the Reach word for “infiltrator”- “Da” is the unique part of their name. Like it makes sense- it’s just objectively hilarious. Anyway, as I said don’t mind me.

That one scene in justice league vs teen titans except I think the scarab would’ve gotten rid of damians tracer the second he put it on Jaime.

Damian keeps trying to put new tracers on Jaime but khaji scans for tracking devices every five minutes and always destroys them.

I also made damian a little baby bc I think it’s hilarious for dick to just take his 9yo brother to hang out with a bunch of teenagers for a while. Leaving kori on babysitting duty for some reason

Okay legitimate question for the Blue Beetle fans, specifically Blue Beetle fans who watched Young Justice

Is Jaime a Metahuman!?!!?!?

I Don’t mean “do his powers make him technically a Metahuman” or “is the reason he was able to bond with the Scarab because he was a Metahuman”

I mean does Jaime- without powers- carry the Meta gene.

I know this sounds like a stupid question with an obvious answer of No- but there’s one scene that has me questioning everything.

The DAMN scene where the outsiders get stuck in the X-pit.

We see earlier in the season that non-metahumans struggle extensively when exposed to the X-pit with long term effects afterword (see the Nightwing Fever Dream). It’s specifically told to us that the thing that makes some people handle this better is the Metagene (or apparently being Kryptonian?)

When in the X-pit, Blue is struggling- that much is clear. He’s struggling bad enough that Bart has to tell Ed to get Jaime out first because the Scarab is literally dying.

But that’s the Scarab.

Beyond the pain he’s facing from the Scarab dying, Jaime seems to be handling it about as ‘well’ as the other outsiders- all of whom are Metahumans. In fact the Scarab specifically says that the technology is “non compatible”- leading me to believe that the reason they’re struggling so much has nothing to do with Jaime not being a Metahuman. Also- once out of the pit he is back to being in fighting condition pretty quickly- especially compared to Nightwing who is messed up for weeks after spending about the same amount of time in the X-pit. We could put this up to The Scarab’s healing abilities- but if The Scarab couldn’t handle the New God tech I doubt they’d be able to heal from it like they heal from everything else.

This whole thing has me falling down a rabbit hole of trying to find any evidence that Jaime does or doesn’t carry the Metagene but I can’t find anything- even from the comics. The one slight evidence in the direction of him having it is the fact that he was chosen by the Scarab for some reason we’ll never know- meaning perhaps the gene is a determining factor (Ted couldn’t bond with the Scarab and we do know he doesn’t have the gene.) The slight evidence against is the fact that bonding with the Scarab in the first place could have triggered the gene?

Maybe I’m losing my mind does anyone else have thoughts here?

The best part about writing your own novel is you can put the “but there was only one bed” trope on the page and there’s nothing anyone can do about it. Is it practical? No. Is it effective? YES. This is the source material- the canon- I do what I please!

I will never stop finding it funny that for the longest time the standing rule of comics was

“no one ever stays dead. You can retcon, reboot, spawn a new universe or revive whoever you want, no one ever stays dead EXCEPT for our four special dead guys. Mhm, our men who must stay dead. Ted Kord, Jason Todd, Bucky Barnes and Uncle Ben. It is a universal constant that they are deceased.”

Imagine surviving and escaping Apokolips and managing to establish a life on earth despite being actively hunted down, only to end up on the same superhero team as Booster Gold and Blue Beetle.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the new DC Absolute runs (to no one’s surprise) and about how the concept they seem to be going with is about taking away something vital from the character and seeing what kind of hero they become, ie Bruce’s money, taking away Wally’s uncle, and etc.

DC clearly wants to continue using Blue Beetle in their new series as they’ve been increasing the number of runs he’s a part of (also the movie was decently successful) so I have no doubt we’re going to see an Absolute Blue Beetle. I’ve seen discussion as to what they’re going to “take” the Scarab, and while that’s intriguing- I’ll bet that’s not it. That’s Ted’s story (in my mind at least) and I think they’re going to leave that story to him.

I have two bets I’d be willing to place and I don’t know which one I like more.

1) His friends/family

Jaime’s “thing” throughout all three (4? I can’t count) of his individual comic runs is just how much his support system- his family (both by blood and those he found along the way)- means to him. That’s what makes him a hero. I mean the kid is quite literally never without a member of his family, or a member of his own team, or another titan, etc. you get it. I think a Jaime Reyes who has to figure it out alone would be the sort of story that fits the overall theme of this run. Also- we might get a significantly more violent Kadji Da in this case as they’ve had less “good examples” from the people in Jaime’s life.

2) Jaime

Hear me out. I don’t know how exactly, but I could see a Blue Beetle without a human host. It’s just Kadji. This sounds comedic- but think about it. We know (at least in the current run) that Kadji was already not on board with the Reach’s Agenda before Jaime got there, so it wouldn’t be full Reach mode- just violent. This is the exact kind of unhinged violence and unexpected direction DC seems to be going with this run. I don’t know exactly how they’d make it work- but as we’ve seen from the absolute Martian Manhunter concepts- they’re not opposed to making some massive changes. We could see Kadji without a host- or maybe with a host who isn’t conscious- or any sort of situation they can think of. It would certainly be a dark way to take the character as Jaime is consistently the only thing keeping Kadji Da from going off the deep end entirely (especially in the latest run) but I think it would be interesting to say the least

Just finished the new Blue Beetle Comic- “Forever Blue.” Have Some…thoughts? I don’t know? It was good lol. However- also wild. Very very wild.

So Spoilers below!

Any time Lobo is involved in a comic you know it’s going to be interesting.

The two pages of Jaime getting yelled at for his confusing origin story and too many Ret-cons had me laughing my ass off but also I do NOT read enough of the wider DC universe to understand where the DC continuity police character came from.

I’m not sure how I feel about JaimeXOo’Li? I like the idea of Jaime having an alien girlfriend, it’s a really interesting way of developing this narrative of him starting to accept his more alien side- but it felt like she was way more into him than he is into her. Idk we’ll see where it goes. Maybe I’m just not used to the timeline of comic book relationships.

LOVED the art style in this one holy hell. The colors were incredible.

Blue Beetle comics once again proving that anyone who says “meehhh pronouns are too complicated” is full of it, because Jaime effortlessly switched between he/they/it for Kadji and it was no problem at all.

Speaking of which those two need to TALK.

2006 run Kadji Da is so relatable- because I too become embarrassed to the point of aggression when reminded of any of my previous phases.

Kadji spent less than half a second in the same room as Danielle Garret and went “Jaime she’s a threat you gotta go now.”

Kadji She’s not a threat she just knows you used to pretend to be a Necklace because her dad told her before he died lol.
