"I sort fics by kudos and only kudos on stories with high kudos counts, why aren't there more stories with high kudos, I ran out of things to read." You're part of the problem.
"Authors artificially inflate comment counts by thanking people, I can't find anything with a real comment count to read." No they fucking are not, they're grateful for engagement.
"I can't read anything under 100k." That's the majority of fics you're ignoring, most novels aren't even that long.
"I don't have time to look for the incredibly rare diamond in the rough, so I won't read anything below a certain amount of kudos, comments, and hits." Those fics are popular because people gave them a chance and then snobs like you found them.
"I won't read anthing with a single typos." You made typos in that sentence, get off your high horse.
"One singular author didn't thank me for commenting, I'm never commenting on any fic again so I don't get burned." You're punishing people because someone didn't give you engagement they don't owe you that they might not have seen.
"This fic is three months old, it's so old, it doesn't matter if I comment or kudos, it's old." Fics do not have expiration dates, comment and kudos.
You're killing your fandoms with your snobbish behaviors.

Unhealed Wounds Your Character Pretends Are Just “Personality Traits”
These are the things your character claims are just “how they are” but really, they’re bleeding all over everyone and calling it a vibe.
╰ They say they're "independent." Translation: They don’t trust anyone to stay. They learned early that needing people = disappointment. So now they call it “being self-sufficient” like it’s some shiny badge of honor. (Mostly to cover up how lonely they are.)
╰ They say they're "laid-back." Translation: They stopped believing their wants mattered. They'll eat anywhere. Do anything. Agree with everyone. Not because they're chill, but because the fight got beaten out of them a long time ago.
╰ They say they're "a perfectionist." Translation: They believe mistakes make them unlovable. Every typo. Every bad hair day. Every misstep feels like proof that they’re worthless. So they polish and polish and polish... until there’s nothing real left.
╰ They say they're "private." Translation: They’re terrified of being judged—or worse, pitied. Walls on walls on walls. They joke about being “mysterious” while desperately hoping no one gets close enough to see the mess behind the curtain.
╰ They say they're "ambitious." Translation: They think achieving enough will finally make the emptiness go away. If they can just get the promotion, the award, the validation—then maybe they’ll finally outrun the feeling that they’re fundamentally broken. (It never works.)
╰ They say they're "good at moving on." Translation: They’re world-class at repression. They’ll cut people out. Bury heartbreak. Pretend it never happened. And then wonder why they wake up at 3 a.m. feeling like they're suffocating.
╰ They say they're "logical." Translation: They’re terrified of their own feelings. Emotions? Messy. Dangerous. Uncontrollable. So they intellectualize everything to avoid feeling anything real. They call it rationality. (It's fear.)
╰ They say they're "loyal to a fault." Translation: They mistake abandonment for loyalty. They stay too long. Forgive too much. Invest in people who treat them like an afterthought, because they think walking away makes them "just as bad."
╰ They say they're "resilient." Translation: They don't know how to ask for help without feeling like a burden. They wear every bruise like a trophy. They survive things they should never have had to survive. And they call it strength. (But really? It's exhaustion wearing a cape.)

Emotional Walls Your Character Has Built (And What Might Finally Break Them)
(How your character defends their soft core and what could shatter it) Because protection becomes prison real fast.
✶ Sarcasm as armor. (Break it with someone who laughs gently, not mockingly.) ✶ Hyper-independence. (Break it with someone who shows up even when they’re told not to.) ✶ Stoicism. (Break it with a safe space to fall apart.) ✶ Flirting to avoid intimacy. (Break it with real vulnerability they didn’t see coming.) ✶ Ghosting everyone. (Break it with someone who won’t take silence as an answer.) ✶ Lying for convenience. (Break it with someone who sees through them but stays anyway.) ✶ Avoiding touch. (Break it with accidental, gentle contact that feels like home.) ✶ Oversharing meaningless things to hide real depth. (Break it with someone who asks the second question.) ✶ Overworking. (Break it with forced stillness and the terrifying sound of their own thoughts.) ✶ Pretending not to care. (Break it with a loss they can’t fake their way through.) ✶ Avoiding mirrors. (Break it with a quiet compliment that hits too hard.) ✶ Turning every conversation into a joke. (Break it with someone who doesn’t laugh.) ✶ Being everyone’s helper. (Break it when someone asks what they need, and waits for an answer.) ✶ Constantly saying “I’m fine.” (Break it when they finally scream that they’re not.) ✶ Running. Always running. (Break it with someone who doesn’t chase, but doesn’t leave, either.) ✶ Intellectualizing every feeling. (Break it with raw, messy emotion they can’t logic away.) ✶ Trying to be the strong one. (Break it when someone sees the weight they’re carrying, and offers to help.) ✶ Hiding behind success. (Break it when they succeed and still feel empty.) ✶ Avoiding conflict at all costs. (Break it when silence causes more pain than the truth.) ✶ Focusing on everyone else’s healing but their own. (Break it when they hit emotional burnout.)

u know i have a constant fear that i'll fall back onto bad habits, that i had such trouble breaking,
its to the point where if i do something i used to do back when i still had them i would start wondering about if i'm gonna start doing them again,
and i know thats stupid but the fear is always there,
because i went though so much trouble to get here, and even then there were times where i wanted to give up,
and i dont want to have them back, i hated them no, i hate them,
and im always scared they'll return.

“How do I write good female characters-“
Exactly the way you write male ones. Treat them the same. The beauty of it is, even if you write shit male characters too, at least it’s clear you don’t discriminate.

So I did say on my oc post that I would maybe post a pic of what Helena would look like, and it seems that math has blessed me again with motivation and the absolute want to do something entertaining and relaxing instead of whatever the fuck we learn in math (I have no idea what went on in that classroom, I am a survivor, Many of my comrades have fallen, pls pray for them and me)
Anyways, this is like a lil sketch, I will admit not my best work but meh ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Hope ya like it!

I think people forget what the meaning of a "self indulgence fic"
Like no babe, your story doesn't need to make complete sense, u don't gotta explain how the KPDH universe can happen at the same time as One piece,
U don't have to make a complex magic system, or justify anything if ya don't want to,
U don't owe anybody any explanation, the only person u do owe is yourself,
Why?
Because you owe yourself a place where u can go back and enjoy something, something that may not make sense, but it's still beautiful, still as valid as any other story,
a self indulgence fic is a fic where u indulge yourself and no one else,
It's for your entertainment, and nobody elses,
So go write that crack fic! Go write that story where 13 different shows are all in the same universe! Go fuck that character (in anyway!)
Write a fic where you give your fav angst and more trauma!
It's for you.

how to write monsters that actually scare and not sparkle
✦ first rule: don’t over-explain. once you give me the monster’s exact height, weight, claw count, and dental record, it’s not scary anymore. it’s a pokémon. mystery is the muscle. a shadow that almost looks human will always hit harder than a full description of a swamp beast. leave gaps. let the reader’s brain fill them in with their own worst fear.
✦ physics should not apply. horror monsters are terrifying when they break the rules of the world we think we understand. a body folding in ways it shouldn’t. joints bending the wrong direction. silence in a place that should echo. footsteps that sound like they’re coming from the ceiling instead of the floor. once you warp reality, the reader doesn’t feel safe in their own.
✦ chasing is fine. but waiting is worse. scarier than claws, scarier than snarling—try a monster that just stands in the corner and watches. even scarier? it smiles. because predators don’t smile unless they know something you don’t.
✦ let it act like it knows you. a growl is scary, sure, but a whisper of your name in the dark is worse. a hiss of your birthday. a laugh in your mother’s voice. monsters are no longer “other” once they feel personal. they’re invasive. they’re inside your head.
✦ bonus tip: give them wrong appetites. a monster that eats flesh is cliché. a monster that eats wallpaper? horrifying. one that eats memories, so a character wakes up without knowing their own name? disgusting. one that eats reflections from mirrors so you don’t see yourself anymore? revolting.

this is my first time requesting but how do i keep readers reading???? i struggle with this a lot and i think my works are sometimes to boring to keep readers reading.
the 10 deadly sins of writing (that make your readers stop reading)
AN: it can be hard to keep readers entertained, so don't panic. 😭
slow start — starting too slow. I get it, you want to set the scene… but if nothing’s actually happening in those first few pages, readers might never get to the good stuff. Start with something engaging right away.
too much info too soon — You don’t have to explain your entire magic system, family tree, and political history on page one. Let the details unfold naturally.
flat characters — characters who feel… kind of hollow. Readers connect with flaws, quirks, and unique voices. If your characters feel like anyone could replace them, it’s worth digging deeper.
robotic talking— dialogue that doesn’t sound real. If you wouldn’t say it out loud, your characters probably wouldn’t either. Read it back and see if it feels natural
repetition — doing the same type of scene over and over. If every chapter is just walking, talking, or thinking, readers will start skimming. Mix it up — new locations, new activities, new energy.
no emotional pull— not letting us feel the emotions. If your characters are facing big moments but their reactions are muted, we’re not going to connect. Let those emotions come through.
Clichés —using familiar tropes without making them your own. Tropes are fine! But surprise us. Put a spin on it. the same enemies to lovers, one bed, trope is BORING (in my opinion)
Zero Stakes — nothing’s at risk. If the reader knows the main character will be fine no matter what, the tension disappears. Give us something to worry about
confusing worldbuilding — introducing too many made-up names, places, and rules all at once. If your reader needs a spreadsheet to keep track, it’s time to simplify.
Rushed Endings — endings that feel rushed. Readers have invested hours into your story, so give them a satisfying, well-earned conclusion
