Upon seeing this as his lunch my son exclaimed "It's perfect mommy!!! Take a picture!" So I did, lol. Things have been so crazy with school, consultations and my upcoming research project that I haven't had much time to experiment with new recipes...but if I can keep my son excited about eating things like tuna salad, whole grain bread, grape tomatoes, carrots, capers and celery - I'd say I'm doing a pretty good job! 😃 Last thing, a note on tuna - I highly recommend Tunnino tuna, they pack their fish in glass jars (so BPA free) and the tuna is in chunk fillets so it has the texture of albacore without all the mercury!!! #patsselfontheback #healthyrecipes #realfood #cleaneating #cleaneats #pescatarian #wholefoods #protein #fitfam #fitspo #dairyfree #spectrummayo #ctatenutrition

Delicious, indulgent and super filling no added sugar plates @Wythehotel - deviled eggs, roasted almonds, assorted olives and feta cheese. Whenever I eat the equivalent volume of sugar laden foods I'm hungry again just 15 minutes later - these shared plates kept me full for hours! This is just one of the many benefits of the no added sugar challenge and why I've committed to limiting added sugar as a lifestyle. I've had cake and other desserts on special occasions but for the most part I stay away from added sugar because it 1. Helps me think more clearly, 2. Makes me feel less moody, 3. Allows me to sense when I am full and stop eating at that point, 4. It keeps me at a healthy weight without the need to ever 'diet', count calories or use any other food micromanagement tools, 5. It keeps my skin clear which is an indication that my body is not trying to purge toxins through my pores, 6. It has led me to eat more locally instead of supporting a food industry that is more concerned with making profits than the health of their consumers and 7. Day 1 of my very first 3-day juice cleanse and Day 17 of my no sugar added challenge. I'm not very convinced that the GI system needs "cleansing" with juices if you eat real food consistently, or that it can undo the damage of unhealthy eating patterns in a few days, but I am thoroughly convinced it can help you mentally hit the reset button and help temporarily reduce cravings for sugar as well as overall appetite. Portabella Mushroom Pizza Sliders. This is my last food meal for the next 3 days bc I'm starting a (no added sugar) juice cleanse tomorrow morning with one of my BFFs...I LOVE eating so this is definitely going to be a challenge! Here's the recipe for the pizza sliders: 1. Place washed portabella mushroom caps in a shallow pan and bake at 345 for approx 6 minutes 2. While mushroom caps bake, mix the following in a bowl: 1 cup chopped grape tomatoes with 1 Tbsp olive oil, 2 dashes of salt, 2 dashes of black pepper, 2 dashes of thyme, 2 dashes of garlic powder, 2 dashes of oregano, 1 Tbsp of chopped green onion, 1 clove of minced garlic 3. Remove mushroom caps and drain excess water. Lightly blot caps with a towel to remove any remaining moisture. 4. Add tomato mixture to each of the caps and top with small pieces of fresh mozzarella and feta cheese. 5. Return topped caps to the oven for 10 more minutes or until cheese begins to brown. As a child I absolutely detested Brussels sprouts and refused to eat them. It wasn't until I had my son and wanted to model healthier eating habits that I decided to give them another try. It took a while but they've really grown on me, to the point that they are now one of my favorite vegetables! Evidence shows that children need to try a food up to 16 times before they know whether they truly dislike a food...my guess is that this probably goes for adults as well. Sometimes all it takes is the right preparation technique and spices to make a food much more palatable...the sprouts shown were roasted with olive oil, salt, pepper, oregano, fresh rosemary and shredded parmesan cheese - they were delish!! #noaddedsugar #30daychallenge #healthyrecipes #wholefoods #paleo #glutenfree #fitspo #fitfam #ctatenutrition
