Creator | Timi Turnup
By: Janeil Ellison
“This is not a game!”
Jumping from the UK across the pond to DMV Timi Turnup has been tirelessly working on his plans of utter world domination! While bouncing around Baltimore and D.C, as well as, completing his academics at McDaniel College; Turnup manages to still blaze the stages all over the area. His passion was kindled a little over a year ago, after first time performing music before a live crowd. The positive reaction from the audience resonated with him. With the sounds blasting through speakers, lights shining in his eyes, a mic clutched tightly in his hand he recognized the power of commanding the stage.
Turn Up is his name for a reason!
When i’m dancing on stage, it’s not only because I am performing it is because I love these songs!
Up on the stage he carries a presence that draws in the crowd. Despite how good his music sounds the energy is amplified by the effortless confidence he puts forth in his performance that then transfers to the individuals jamming to the sounds.
Turnup’s confidence stems from the belief he upholds in him self more than anyone else can simply because,
I am the shit
Not in an arrogant way, more so in a way that has manifested into a factual definition of his persona. Just like the fact that the sky is blue and fishes swim- Timi Turnup in the shit.
What makes Turnup’s sound so special is that he maintains the authenticity of his individualism. By creating music that is multi-dimensional he allows a different dynamic to every collection he puts out. He shows his listeners that he is more than a single type of performer. He is all the above and more. He is Timi Turnup and nothing less.
Luckily, his talent and hard work backs up his words. As an independent artist he needs to have that kind of attitude in order to create the platform in which he will ultimately stand on to get him where he sees himself to be. Therefore, he makes sure he keeps himself consistent. Seven months ago, Steezy Saturdays became an ongoing project where he would put out a fresh track on his website every Saturday of 2017. To this date he has not missed one day! As tough as that may sound Turnup sees it as creative exercise. He naturally thinks creatively so coming up with new topics, lyrics, and production doesn’t feel like work.
Turnup understands when excuses are valid, but an excuse is still an excuse. In order to keep himself motivated he has to stay on track, not for himself, but for the folks that genuinely support his work.
If I don’t do it people will stop giving a fuck
Tumblr media
Most people underestimate the long and difficult process that every leader has to go through to gain the status they eventually become known for. Timi Turnup is no fool when it comes to that reality, but seeing his hard work pay off will be worth it in the long run.
It’s like putting medicine in the candy
Not only does he create jams you can dance to the lyrics he uses is key to his product. In order for people to gravitate and support his sound he has to make his words resonate with the listener. Turnup explains that it is easy to make a catchy hook to a beat you can rock to, but the true impact is made when that song can be felt by the listener. This is the key to his master plan. When people can feel your message it builds support. With support comes loyalty, with loyalty there is influence, and in influence there is power. But do not fret, he is not doing it in a villainous way. Turnup’s goal is to uplift not conquer.
Through his music he hopes to impact the listener by empowering them to see a different perspective in a fun way that you can party to.
The culture itself is imbued in negativity
Meaning, messages that are sent out through the music can subconsciously be detrimental or unprogressive. He makes his music with the intention to empower his listeners so that they can become they’re own influence to their world. Turnup teaches us that the key to changing the world is through the support of the people, and by giving the people that support in return.
As self-reliant as he is, Timi Turnup is very much open with collaborating and working with others. Turnup says it’s easier to work with others when they are working even harder than him. A dynamic that is motivating, focused, and creative energy will contribute to a memorable product to be proud of. His core collective group, With the Beads, includes three other members that work together with him to push their message of individuality. With them along with his personal clothing brand, Steez Boutique, he puts value on not what you wear but how you carry it in your own unique way of expression.
3 WORDS
Finally we gave him our final challenge question where he tells us in only three simple words who he is overall as a creator. Thinking very carefully about his answer he says,
Kind, vice-full, and godly
The reasons he specifically selected these words is because it is a basic summary of who he is, what he speaks about, and where he plans on going. Again, there is always a message. Through positivity mixed up in the melody of money, women, and liquor Timi Turnup creates a world welcoming everyone to think bigger. Gods create worlds and through his talent he becomes the ultimate creator of his realities right now.
Will Timi truly become a new global leader? Perhaps, but he cannot do it alone. Support is one of the greatest powers we have so show some by following his journey via the links below!!

Where’s The Alibi?
Where: 231 2nd st NW
Hours: 11am -11pm Mon-Fri
Happy Hour: 4pm - 8pm

Washington D.C is a melting pot of all kinds of flavors! At any turn your taste buds can sink their teeth in to the freshness of the Mediterranean, the spices of the Caribbean, the sweet and sour taste of Asia, or the many unique flavors that represent the variety in cultures that live here. However, sometimes one may just want the good ol' fashion taste of home.
Far from your typical greasy burger with fries, this cozy and quaint little pub is tucked away only a few blocks in an ally from the Capitol building. The Alibi is one of D.C's fun staples when it comes to American-Euro cuisine. For those of us that love a good club sandwich, collard greens with mac n cheese, or good tall cold glass of  lager this is your place to be!      The small space brings in a warm and welcoming atmosphere that allows for great and intimate conversation with friends, family, or co-workers. The low lighting accents the burgundy walls, deep brown oak, and brick that are thoughtfully decorated around the bar and dining. Outside the wide clear windows you can look on to the patio that seats even more guests comfortably. Their menu is full of multiple kinds of eats great for any home style craving! You have any choice of seafood or salads and soups; roasted meat and vegetables, as well as, vegetarian and vegan options for those that are a bit more particular.
"everything is made to order, nothing is kept frozen", explained my charming Irish bartender
I definitely could taste all the freshness in my clubhouse turkey and honeyed ham sandwich along with my deliciously creamy mashed potatoes savagely eaten in the photo below...

The Alibi is one of those casual places where you can eat well and drink well too. The amazing service from the bartenders add to the great atmosphere. All the guys were knowledgeable about their menu, attentive, and knew how to mix a damn drink! Needless to say, I left there with a happy mind and belly. Don't let me tell you about it, find out for yourself what The Alibi has to offer by checking out their website and location!
