You know what I love…

When people’s superpowers get worse when they’re scared.

Like sympathetic nervous system is a-going, heart is racing, and your whole body thinks you’re in danger. So it tries to kick in your powers to protect itself. I’m taking:

People with electric powers shocking themselves when touching a door knob.

Water powers unconsciously forming a water bubble and spilling it on themselves.

Fire powers smelling smoke suddenly, only to look down at their hands and realize their hands are heating up and burning the sweat off their hands.

Super genius’ drawing a blank and stuttering when someone asks them a question.

People with super speed bouncing their leg up and down or fiddling with their fingers so fast, it looks like one massive blob

(And of course the famous example) Miles, and his spider powers, sticking to everything.

Superhumans and their powers need to be one. I think often we forget about the ‘human’ part. Superpowers being inconvenient is comedic, cool to see, and shows that their powers aren’t just a cool feature they can just turn on and off. It’s a part of them. Just… people’s powers messing up when they’re scared. Give it a thought

Immoral Characters

This is a question for writers, readers, and enjoyers of really anything(?). How would you go about writing characters that are bad people? I feel like there is a line between a character people can admit are flawed can still love them, and then a character that is flawed but to the point that it's irredeemable? What makes a bad character at the very least likable?

What separates a Fiona Gallagher and an Eleanor Shellstrop from a Frank or pregnant Debbie Gallagher and a demon from hell.

I'm asking becauseI want to write a main character who is flawed and has super flawed motivations, but I don't want to have an Dear Evan Hansen situation where the character is so flawed that part of the audience feels like it ruins the story all together.

Maybe I would say effort? Fiona makes a constant effort to help her family. Eleanor makes an effort to be good. But Evan Hansen made an effort to help Conner's family. It's clear the writers wanted Evan to be relatable and for the audience would attach to him, but that's not what happened. Where did they go wrong?

How do I make my immoral character likeable? Even if they did super horrible, no good things, I still want people to like them and want to follow their story. What do I do?

I like to think that this fairy did a whole 30-second magical girl transformation and the husband is just clapping like “wow sweetie that was amazing! Where’d those lights come from?”

You are getting desperate. You have already tried everything and your husband still thinks you are just a really dedicated cosplayer, not a fairy.

This but it’s the cocky character who in the beginning swore everyone was holding them back and that they could do this on their own.

Now they realize that they can’t do it alone.

Soulmate AU where Character A and Character B can hear the music the other listens to. When they finally meet, the first thing that happens is A is holding B by the shoulders, almost yelling, like

“What’s that one song you listened to like a year and a half ago?!! You listened to it one time and it was like la di da da da da ddu ddu daaaaa and it was soooo good!! I can’t find it anywhere!”

Turns out A was just listening to a playlist so they can clean around the house. So they both go through like 50 playlist trying to find that one song.

Antagonist has time warping powers. But Hero is much too focused on defeating them that they don’t realize the powers are in affect. So when Hero finally does defeat antagonist, 83 years have already past.

Everyone is gone.

The world moved on without them.

The hero and the demon lord finally faced each other 83 years ago. The hero hasn’t stopped charging his attack. Everyone’s already gone home and forgotten about it.

“Alright, fine, since you’re so keen on honesty I’ll tell you the truth: You are not right for me. I thought I could fix you and mold you into the perfect partner. I thought I could tolerate spending the rest of my life with you. And yet you’re the same stupid loser I met all those years ago.”

Looking up at the grainy ceiling, an inmate has one final wish. Just like now, there’s was no escape from his inevitable demise, suffering unspeakable torment in hell for eternity. They’d do anything, anything to avoid the fate designed for him. In a final desperate plea, the inmate made a deal with the Devil.

To work along side him, almost like a secretary.

Sending emails to the big man upstairs. Reporting an escaping prisoners. Role-playing in a rich fantasy that eventually goes downhill. Sweeping the front entrance. As you’d expect, working with for the Devil was a punishment in of itself.

Hero isn’t as strong as the other heroes. (Maybe they don’t even have powers.)So they take drugs to inhance their abilities so they can fighting Villains at the same rate as other heroes. On the other hand, Villain is the head of this drug operation. So when they find out a Hero’s taking their drugs to stop their schemes, they basically stop anyone from selling to Hero.

But Hero still needs a way to fight Villains, not only to keep their reputation clean, but to keep their job. So they to re-create Villain’s injection at home with their very last supply.

Unfortunately, this goes horrible wrong and turns Hero into a uncontrollable, super-hulk with a thirst for vengeance, who not only is crushing heads one-handed, but is completely going off script for the Hero’s Code of Conduct.

Too bad this mighty, monster-like hunk of an anti-hero doesn’t like to read.
