I'm so glad you liked that first chapter!

I actually have the unfinished draft for the second and third chapter sitting on my docs haha. Thanks to covid 19 and other anomalies my school schedule has been hectic since May last year so I've struggled to keep up with school work and other stuff I wanna do :(

Things have calmed down lately which means I've had more free time, I didn't know on what I should work but I'll see if I can get those drafts done! If I do finish them the next chapter will be out Wednesday next week or so :)

Summary: Bucky has been doing nice gestures for weeks and now he thinks you like him.

A/N: I had writers block for so long when I was trying to write this one :/

“I did what I had to do.”

“Yeah and you almost got yourself killed!”

“I was trying to protect you.” Bucky said, looking into your eyes.

“I don’t need your protection.” You replied back.

Bucky has been crushing on you for weeks, but he hasn’t had the courage to tell you. He’s been withering his way into missions, so he can make sure you’re okay. Doing little friendly gestures in secret.

You didn’t know why you were so upset, Bucky did things like this all the time. Something about today, just rubbed you the wrong way. You liked him, you were finally coming to that realization.

His caring personality, his kind nature. But you wanted to avoid falling for him so quickly. Having a history of awful relationships, you didn’t know what to do. You didn’t want this to be the same situation like the others.

“You think I’m helpless?” You asked, irritated that he may think that.

“Oh, Gosh, no. I know you don’t need my protection, (y/n). I know you can handle your own.” He replied, making you smile to yourself. “I just really care about you.”

“I hate you, I hate how great you are.” you mumbled under your breath, but of course he heard it

“I don’t think that’s the case.” You roll your eyes before staring at the super soldier again.

“You know what I think?” You nod letting him go on, showing as little emotion as possible as he continues, “you hate that you love me.”

“I’ll give you the answer to that after a date.”

He licks his lips, smirking, “Sounds like a plan.”

This is a kind & friendly reminder for every Bucky fanfic writer out there, no matter who you ship or if you write reader inserts: 

Once TFATWS is out, don’t go looking back at your fics by thinking you got everything wrong when it comes to Bucky’s characterization. Never look down on your fanfics, they’re wonderful and they’re stories that you shared with everyone because they needed to be told. 

Everyone interpreted how Bucky was written and portrayed in the past 5 movies in their own way and that’s okay. Most of the earlier days during TFA to TWS (and to this day really but those were the pre-2016 era) was spent creating our own version of Bucky since he hadn’t had as much development as some other characters did. 

Although the reality was unfortunate, I actually think it’s kinda cool that Bucky has so many versions of himself, depending on the timeline. TFA? Flirty and outgoing pre-war. Then suffering from being experimented on and dealing with PTSD from the war. TWS? A victim, lost, hurt, not really knowing who he was. CW? Recovering, slowly but he’s made progress, he just doesn’t want to hurt anyone. BP & IW? Still recovering, but in the comfort of Wakanda. EG? Spin it however you wish- go on the fix-it route or the angst path.   

TL;DR: Don’t feel bad if you think you got Bucky’s characterization wrong after TFATWS is released. You perceived him as you did with the given material and that’s okay.
