the way i would still hate this but AT LEAST IT WOULD MAKE SENSE

The whole finale and the Poppy storyline would've been so so much better if she was Ruby's. Like sure, Ruby's a little young for motherhood, but Ruby's whole story arc is about babies! We first meet her trying to save a baby she just met! She loved the original Space Babies!Poppy! And, most glaringly, The Doctor and Ruby got called Mummy and Daddy by that Poppy, and The Doctor literally said "I wish we were".

And, if Ruby was in Belinda's role in that two parter, Mel, the one companion who canonically has a photographic memory, could be the one person who remembers things no-one else does? Which would both make more sense and wouldn't involve hiring Bonnie Langford just to have her do absolutely nothing??

What on earth went wrong behind the scenes. And why did Belinda have to take the brunt of it.

Now that I have watched this DW finale, I feel like it is actually a good thing that we do not have Martha coming back. At least she is safe from having her character rewritten, retconned and ruined in favor of fulfilling her destiny as a "mother".

Okay actual last post I'll make on this topic but-

Choosing to make Donna's story be about motherhood in the 60th special made sense. Donna and her relationship with her mother has been a prevalent theme in her storyline long before the anniversary special. We see how Donna's relationship with her mother effects how she sees herself and how she presents in the world, how much she wants her mother's approval and how easily broken Donna is when she doesn't receive it even when she's used to her mother's dismissal. But little by little, Sylvia realizes how huge an impact she has left on Donna and how much she has hurt her. She reexamines her behaviour and chooses to try to get better, to reconcile with Donna. But the damage has been done. There are things that Sylvia can't take back, but now Donna can stand up to her and not make herself smaller to fit in for Sylvia. When Donna chooses to have a child, it is because Donna is ready to love someone more than herself and she knows exactly how she doesn't want to raise her child. She lets Sylvia in to Rose's life, but on Donna's conditions. She raises Rose with so much love and acceptance and teaches her that she can do anything. It is a full circle moment for Donna and while there is some not great writing and is overly moralistic in a patronizing way, it does make sense for Donna as a character.

Belinda on the other hand, we are never taught what her relationship with her parents are. But what we are taught about Belinda is that she is incredibly independent. She is a woman in her thirties who doesn't conform to misogynistic patriarchal lifestyles. She lives with roommates, she works full time, she breaks up with her boyfriend, and that doesn't make her any less complete. She values her life on earth. She doesn't want to leave, she doesn't want to travel with the Doctor initially. But the Doctor takes her away from this life and completely rewrites everything we knew about her. She is fundamentally changed as a character and is reduced to woman-with-child. Motherhood doesn't enhance Belinda's story like it does Donna's, it reduces it.

can we please talk about a how genius The Princess and The Frog (2009) is?

it’s a (semi) modern twist on a well-known story. Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, etc are mostly faithful to their source materials. princess and the frog throws in the twist of Tiana turning into a frog to flesh out the source material, and few other disney movies have successfully done that.

and tiana, TIANA, is probably the greatest disney princess ever. she’s feminine and soft and caring but she also is strong and resilient and has crazy amounts of perseverance. she doesn’t take now for an answer and doesn’t put up with any of naveens shit. she’s silly and sarcastic and kind and a little cunning and it’s amazing. certain recent movies tend to make their female protagonist “not need a prince” but then completely disregard and bastardize their original chatacter traits through bad writing (I love u rachel zegler im so sorry) without adding any depth to these beloved characters. TIANA teaches a specific lesson to kids through her story AND she still retains her personality after marrying naveen.

lastly, as someone from nearby new orleans, I love the way the culture is integrated to the story. the main villain + mama odie practices voodoo. one of the animal sidekicks speaks cajun and the other plays jazz. most all the songs have a specific jazz feel that immerses you in the world. the fact that there’s a second wedding after the fairytale one to include their families, and that some of the secondary antagonists are hunters on the bayou, and that mardi gras is the huge ticking time clock that drives the third act. it’s so unique in a sea of other princess movies that are set “in a far away kingdom, a long time ago” the research into the culture and the gorgeous visuals of the bayou and the unique architecture of 1920s New Orleans gives this movie a special smth smth that makes it stand out among every other princess movie. I truly don’t think it can be topped.

TL;DR: disneys princess and the frog is THE singular best princess movie ever

You know, I've seen a lot of people do a bunch of different things for Twilight to base him off regions where he's from. I've seen midwestern, I've seen southern, I've seen Appalachian, and its not really discourse I see, everyone is really cool about it and are really respectful to each other and are just like "I like what you did! I prefer putting him in this region."

All that's to say is I have the perfect middle ground for everyone that's DEF not me just projecting on to my favorite character or anything.

Guys, theres a place in America (I mostly say America because we love making Twilight yee-haw which I support, that is a cowboy right there) that is midwestern, southern, and full of hillbillies. Those from around there know what I'm talking about.
