On August 23, 1989, two million peaceful demonstrators joined hands across Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania to protest the occupation of the Baltic states by the Soviet Union. The chain, 675 kilometers long (that’s about 420 miles), connected the capitals of Vilnius, Riga, and Tallinn. The whole thing was coordinated via hand-held portable radio! The protesters peacefully joined hands for 15 minutes at 7 p.m. local time, saying they wanted to demonstrate solidarity among the three nations in their desire for independence.
Moscow responded with heated rhetoric but backed down when the activists appealed to the United Nations. Within seven months, Lithuania had declared its independence. By the end of 1991, just two years later, all three Baltic states were free.

In a stark new warning, the world’s leading climate scientists have shown that global warming must be kept to a maximum of 1.5C to lessen the risk of drought, floods, extreme heat and poverty for hundreds of millions of people.
The authors of the landmark report by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released on Monday say urgent and unprecedented changes are needed to reach the target, which they say is affordable and feasible although it lies at the most ambitious end of the Paris agreement pledge to keep temperatures between 1.5C and 2C.
The half-degree difference could also prevent corals from being completely eradicated and ease pressure on the Arctic, according to the 1.5C study, which was launched in Incheon in South Korea after approval at a final plenary of all 195 countries that saw delegates hugging one another, with some in tears.
“It’s a line in the sand and what it says to our species is that this is the moment and we must act now,” said Debra Roberts, a co-chair of the working group on impacts. “This is the largest clarion bell from the science community and I hope it mobilises people and dents the mood of complacency.”

InSight: First photo from the probe’s Instrument Deployment Camera. This camera is located on the robot arm, currently fixed to the probe’s upper deck surface, so it didn’t get as much dirt on the lens cover as in the previous photo. The copper object on the left is the seismometer, which will be deployed onto the surface in a few weeks once they pick out the right spot for it.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has always had his reservations about artificial intelligence. We can only call it the irony of fate that his newest venture aims at merging the consciousness of humans and robots to create the master computer.

Your True Essence
Tumblr media
Look, my child, it’s simple. Your true essence is light. Light cannot be damaged, altered, or changed.
It can change direction, yes, but it will always be light.
Matter, solid things, density, darkness… those things can be dented, altered, damaged, changed.
In other words, your temporary illusion on this body can appear to be forever wounded.
Your Truth, Your Light, is eternally perfect.

Artificial intelligence bot trained to recognize galaxies
Researchers have taught an artificial intelligence program used to recognize faces on Facebook to identify galaxies in deep space.
Tumblr media
The result is an AI bot named ClaRAN that scans images taken by radio telescopes.
Its job is to spot radio galaxies – galaxies that emit powerful radio jets from supermassive black holes at their centers.
