Hello, my name is Miriam Nakanyike (also known as Kevin), and I am a 28year old Ugandan trans man šŸ³ļøā€āš§ļø. I fled Uganda in 2019 to escape extreme homophobia and transphobia. Being LGBTQ+ is criminalized in Uganda, and I was no longer safe in my own country. I was relocated by UNHCR to Kakuma Refugee Camp in northwestern Kenya, where I met many other LGBTQ+ refugees who had also fled persecution from Uganda and neighboring East African countries.Life in Kakuma was extremely difficult and dangerous. As queer refugees, we faced daily threats, violence, and discrimination. Many of our friends were killed by homophobic attackers both fellow refugees and some local Turkana residents. Police brutality was also common. The conditions were unbearable.
In 2022, I left Kakuma and moved to Nairobi, hoping for better support and safety. Unfortunately, things only got worse. I had no stable place to live and was forced to sleep on the streets and in bars. One night, I was raped by a group of four men. This trauma left me deeply broken, emotionally and physically. I couldn’t access medical care, shelter, binders, or even food, sanitary towels and many others .The UNHCR office had moved from where I had first registered, and I didn’t know where to turn.Despite all this, I kept fighting to survive taking on small jobs to get by. But in August 2023, the Kenyan government openly stated it no longer wanted LGBTQ+ people in the country. Once again, I was forced to flee this time to South Sudan. Now, I am here with over 400 queer people, including women and children, all struggling to survive. We are facing severe food shortages, lack of shelter, no medicine, and no access to basic needs. Many in our group are HIV-positive and urgently need medication. The children among us are without milk, clothing, or safe space to grow.We are in desperate need of support, and we are humbly asking for your help.If you’re able, we have a friend with a PayPal account that can receive funds for food and emergency needs. You can also help by starting a fundraiser on our behalf for we can’t make one over here. And the South Sudan government gave us a deadline of 20 days that ended yesterday and told us to leave the camp with immediate effect this left us in a state of quagmire for we have nowhere to go and Sudan being in war our lives are at risk for we have very many easily visible fellows and South Sudan is one of the most dangerous and homophobic countries here in Africa .šŸ“± You can reach me on WhatsApp: +256 750 521555 I’m happy to video call and introduce you to the group I represent. It would mean the world to us to be seen and heard. Please help us survive. We are in a very poor and dangerous state.Thank you for reading and caring. We are grateful for any support whether it’s sharing our story, rebloging , or connecting with us directly.Happy pride month šŸ³ļøā€āš§ļøāš§ļøšŸ³ļøā€šŸŒˆ

So absurd that we are facing forced eviction from Gorom to Juba in a pride month, but no matter the hard times, we still hold a smile on our faces hoping that everything will be alright one day, fellow trans people world wide it’s not a mistake that we exist, we were created just like others….let’s hold together boldly and stand for our rights…. Happy pride to all trans men….

Being trans is not a crime but in my country of origin it’s penalty is either death or life imprisonment which makes queer lives so hard here in Africa . I am so tired of this . Happy pride month to all trans out therešŸ³ļøā€āš§ļø

i get that americans love their cultural imperialism, but it really does piss me off that june is ā€œinternationalā€ pride month just because something happened in the united states.
in aotearoa, june isn’t our pride, it’s theirs. marsha p johnson and sylvia rivera are their historical figures, not ours. the phrase that ā€œyou owe your rights to Black trans womenā€ is true there, but here we owe our rights to (mostly) Māori historical figures. i have the freedoms i do because of the legacy of an entirely different set of people operating in an entirely different context at entirely different times.
But because of american cultural imperialism, most queer people in Aotearoa don’t even know our own queer history. Carmen Rupe, Ngahuia Te Awekotuku, the Dorian Society, Gillian Laundon, Georgina Beyer, and the Wolfenden Association are some of our queer history. We should know their names! we should know what they did for us! but because of the power of the american imperial machine, we don’t.
our national pride month should be july, the month that the Homosexual Law Reform Act passed in 1986. our two largest cities hold their pride festivals in february and march, respectively. american queer history has very little (or nothing, depending on who you ask) to do with our queer history. anecdotally, from my own queries, queer youth in aotearoa know more about american queer history than our own.
anyway, happy pride, americans. i’m truly sorry that most of you don’t see the negative impact your nation’s culture has on the rest of the world. and to the rest of the world reading this, try searching for your own country and culture’s queer history, don’t accept the american narratives as your own. we deserve our own histories divorced from the cultural hegemony of the USA.

Hallo there, hope this post finds you well, as for me I have a lot on me yesterday as I was from our pride party I was attacked by a group of homophobic people that beat me to pulp I am currently in a lot of pain but lack funds to seek medical attention . There is a hospital for all refugees here but the doctors don’t want to attend to us the āš§ļøšŸ³ļøā€šŸŒˆšŸ³ļøā€āš§ļøpeople to a point that when you go there and tell them you are sick some act like they haven’t heard or even abuse you in their language . I am so scared I might contract a deadly disease out of a severe bite where one of the attackers grabbed me and bit me so badly. If there is any help you can extend to me I’ll highly appreciate it thank you so much. Help me share my post or reblog so that I can get some help
