While I’m not a fan of how his character has been written as of recently (sans the third film), I 100% agree. Shadow did have a well thought out arc in LESS time where the growth feel natural, wasn’t favored completely by the story to where he could do anything and there wasn’t consequences for his actions, and he was able to show a variety of emotions other than just being an angry asshole all the time.

Also, Shadow could obliterate Bakugou WITHOUT the chaos emeralds or removing his inhibitor rings.

As I mentioned before, I've been making my superhero universe loosely inspired by the core concepts of mha, and one of the things I've done a lot while making it is looking back at hori's failures and use them as teaching moments so I know what to avoid when making my story ideas.

One in particular I took note of, was how hori failed to properly execute the trope of "the sympathetic villainess who has feeling for the main character."

Now, obviously I'm referring to toga, and I think I speak for both of us when I say that toga is a poorly written version of this trope.

I'm saying all this because I've made a supervillain oc in this universe of mine that falls into that trope, and I wanna know your thoughts on her.

Her name is jamie fletcher, aka penumbra.

So jamie's mutation(my universe's equivalent to quirk's) is called "shadow body". It basically means she's an autrophic shadow creature with shapeshifting abilities, and has a weakness to the cold.

She grew up poor under a single mother who conceived her in a one night stand during her time as a prostitute.

Despite this, jamie's mother still loved her dearly, and tried her best to provide her a good life. Jamie often faced prejudice and ostracization for her shadowy appearance, and when her mother died of a heart attack, it was the last straw for her.

She turned to a life of crime to get by as a young woman, donning the alias "penumbra".

Her criminal endeavors catch the attention of newt cornelius, who is really the vigilante with reptile powers known as "herpeton".

During thsir scuffles, penumbra flirts with herpeton(in a charming, affectionate way. Not the kind that borders on sexual harassment.), developing feelings for him due to his dorky, yet sincere and good natured attitude. Herpeton does get flustered a fair bit at her comments(mainly because nobody's ever flirted with him before due to his creepy reptilian appearance.) And starts reciprocated her feelings after seeing that she only went down a life of crime out of desperation, and is actually a very kind and friendly person deep down.

With some help from herpeton (and his rich philantropist/vigilante friend, duskstalker), penumbra is able to turn over a new leaf, and the two officially become an item.

So, what do you think? Any thoughts or critiques?

Already, this is a better step in the direction of the type of villainess character that Toga was supposed to be. And I would most definitely be down to see her story! Personally, I don’t have anything really to add in my opinion, as everything that I have read sounds good and has me intrigued! I do apologize if you wanted more though 😭 But I really think this is solid and a character I would like to see on her journey and root for!

I think the mha fandom needs to be reminded about this

TOGA IS A RAPIST!

I feel like this gets glossed kver a lot by the fandom whenever togas actions get brought up. She considers taking peoples blood to be like kissing. Meaning that her taking blood from people isn't just maiming them, it's sexually assaulting them too. And in case you that would be too ambiguous to consider SA, she just strsight up gropes ochaco's breasts at one point.

And btw, toga's also meant to be queer as well. Nice job hori, make the queer character have a compulsive urge to sexually assault people, that's not gonna promote homophobic stereotypes at all, is it?

All this makes it extremel hard to sympathize with her when she assaults and kills people on the daily. And then she has the nerve to go all "the heroes don't consider jin a person!". Gee toga, did you consider all those people you killed and assaulted as people? Now just to clarify, twice did not deserve to die. There's no debate about that. I'm more angry at how it comes from someone who seems to have little regard for human life to suddenly go all "you don't see hs as people". A case of the kettle calling the pot black.

Does she even have remorse for her actions? No! In fact her dialogue for she dies implies she'd do it all over again.

Toga basically has all the traits of a loathesome character. A serial killer and rapist who is also a massive hypocrite that doesn't have an inkling of remorse for her actions and believes she is entitled to do whatever she wants and points fingers at thkse who don't endorse her destructive behaviour.

Becuase of all these factors...I didn't want to see toga redeemed and saved. I now that's a pretty controversial take, but think about it for a moment. Would you want a character who is a serial killer and serial rapist and a hypocrite to be "redeemed"? I want you guys to answer that honestly.

I'm always down for some Aizawa bashing! Let's hit this at an angle nobody else talks about. He's a loser. Where are his actual career highlights? Seriously, with that quirk? Show me the A or S-rank villains he's personally put away. We see nothing.

He fights nameless randoms, even in Vigilantes. Yeah, we learn he can go toe-to-toe with Knuckleduster, and by scaling, is probably on Stain's level (at least as Stendhal). Big whoop. He doesn't do anything with that after.

His claim to fame? Beating up USJ fodder... the same fodder his completely untrained students (in school less than a month!) dumpstered with minimal effort later. Momo's group was only in temporary danger because Kaminari KO'd himself - and we later learn he wasn't even in real danger because he absorbs electricity.

So, Eraserhead's main timeline "feats":

Beating up fodder.

A brief scuffle with Tomura (who disintegrated his elbow and could've killed him if it continued).

Breaking the arm of a Twice clone.

Getting stabbed by Toga during the Overhaul raid (liability status achieved).

Losing his leg and eye.

Acting as Monoma's quirk copy-paste tool to stop everyone getting instantly obliterated by Tomura.

Hatake Kakashi he is NOT.

Imagine if Kakashi's peak was schooling the Demon Brothers, then he just kinda... got his ass kicked occasionally and sometimes used Kamui to support the Genin. Imagine pre-timeskip Sakura regularly achieving more than him. That's Aizawa.

And teaching? He calls himself a terrible teacher, saying everything his students achieve is their own hard work. Where are his successful former students? He's 30+ with a 15+ year career. No hero agency full of loyal comrades? No pros singing his praises? Just one girl in Class 2-A exists solely to soften him and facilitate the retcon that he re-enrolls people.

His existence breaks UA's credibility. They have insane student intake standards, treating kids as disposable (Aizawa can place massive black marks on their records on a whim!), but teacher standards are low? No immense competition? Why is a man who clearly dislikes teaching children shaping the next generation? All his rep comes from being at UA.

In short: No tangible career highs. No teaching legacy. All hype, minimal results. Kakashi's discount, bargain-bin cousin.

now that you mention it, aizawa does have quite a pitiful track record when it comes to fighting. Odd thing is, his quirk actually does give him an edge against villains lile all for one and overhaul, because their fighting style completely depends on their quirk(all for one can't survive without his quirks activated too). That fight with toga was incredibly stupid. The capture cloth can apparantly crunch metal pipes like a soda can, yet toga can slice through it with her knives no problem? Toga has a lot of plot armor in her fights, but that's a topic for another day. Whenever eraserhead fights someone who can fight without completely depending on their quirk (knuckleduster and toga) or who is immune to erasure (usj nomu) he gets absolutely steamrolled. This guy is somehow a bigger fraud than homelander, fasttrack, immortal, and roaring knight put together.

Funny thing is, I exemplified that when I made a post where my version of spinner(who can lift 30 tons and run 400+mph cause he has actuslly gecko powers) went head to hesd with aizawa, and lets just say eraser-fraud's face had got up close and personal with the wall...the hard way.

I also share the sentiment that aizawa is a pathetic loser. He sucks so much as a teacher that a real life educator said that if they were nezu, theu would have fired aizawa years ago. He also treats his friends like garbage and blows them off as he wallows in his misery. He becomes the kiss-ass of a sociopath who looks, and acts like his highschool bully. Aizawa makes jerry smith look like a gigachad by comparision. He is just that much of a pompous, miserable, idiotic, loathesome, worm.

On Writing Romance

⊹ If their personalities don’t change the way they love, I don’t care. Show me the emotionally constipated gremlin trying to say “I love you” through soup or blood sacrifices.

⊹ Miscommunication tropes are only tolerable if it’s because both characters are awkward disaster goblins who panic and start lying for no reason.

⊹ Romance should amplify character arcs, not replace them. If they abandon their goals the moment someone is cute at them, that’s not love, that’s weak writing.

⊹ Let them fall in love slowly. Through shared snacks, petty arguments, silent glances, sarcastic encouragement, bandaging each other’s wounds. Love is built. Not summoned.

⊹ Consent is hot. Clear boundaries are hot. Flirting where both parties know what they’re doing and still get flustered is the hottest.

⊹I don’t want “he was dark and brooding.” I want “he was emotionally unavailable and bad at feelings but showed up anyway and said 'I’m trying.'”

⊹ If you're writing a friends-to-lovers arc, the moment they realize is not when they see each other in a pretty outfit. It’s when they see them being genuinely kind. Or brave. Or stupidly loyal.

⊹ Physical affection is great, but emotional pattern recognition is better. I want “I noticed you chew your sleeve when you’re scared” kind of intimacy.

⊹ Let one character love the other first and let them suffer. Let them burn quietly in the corner while the other obliviously sharpens their sword.

⊹ If they don’t have a little bit of “I hate how much I love you,” what are we even doing here?

⊹ Sometimes the romance arc is learning to love yourself first. Or breaking a pattern. Or finally understanding you’re worthy of love at all.

⊹ The best romance scenes are never just about the romance. They’re about trust, choice, timing, and all the things they’re afraid to say.

I just a really cool idea for a "villain ochaco concept", and I wanna hear your thoughts on it.

So ochaco's main reasoning for becoming a hero was to fincancial support her family right?

Well the idea I had was that her parents would have some sort of accident at work that would leave the uraraka family in financial shambles. Also this version of ochaco wouldn't pass the entrance exam due to other students interference and aggressive tryhards *cough* bakugo *cough*

Desperate to help her family, ochaco would become villain to steal enough money to support her loved ones.

Donning a shadowy cloak and using her auirks levitation abilities, she would mask herself as a ghost and steal from wealthy businesses in the desd of night, adopting the alias "spectroplasm: urban apparition" to mask her identity.

Spectroplasm would grow to resent heroes for being hailed as paragons of virtue despite many having self-serving and greedy motives, while people lime her who had to resort to criminal activities to protect those they cared about were branded as villain scum.

Well, what do you think?

But, looking at this Ochako!

It does sound very interesting! Since Ochako’s family had been the bedrock of wanting to be a hero in the first place, along with her naturally kind disposition, it would make sense how she would prioritize wanting to be able to assist her parents through any means necessary eventually, especially if her parent’s life and security were on the line. A very dark Robin Hood story.

What I noticed in this version of Ochako is despite going any lengths to acquire money through any means, (and this is simply how I’m interpreting this description) you don’t list as she would kill. And that’s not a criticism, if that’s what you intend. I applaud you for that! The manga has too many murder happy whack jobs to “redeem”. (Glares at L.O.V, especially their Big Three) So a villain that doesn’t resort to killing is a breath of fresh air, and could bring nuance and opportunities and interactions to other characters and see how she would interact with them. (If I’m dead wrong about that, then please, correct me for making an assumption on your interpretation.)

This could open to interesting interactions between various characters, and if you are interested, I am willing to give you a list on specific characters that I think could help build more of her character and the world in general.

Obviously, I’ll always prefer my little space cinnamon roll to be close to canon as possible 😭 But this take on her very much has my attention and would be interested to hear more! Well done! 👍🏻
