‘Mickey Mouse Degrees’: The Battle for Creativity in Education
Is it fair to label creative arts degrees as 'Mickey Mouse' or should we be embracing the arts? Read my thoughts at my #blog below #generalelection #election #mickeymousedegrees #education #art #music #drama #author #vote #gsce #school #government
As we honor National Creativity Day, it’s crucial to confront the stark reality of creativity’s place in our education system. Reflecting on my school days, the landscape was bleak for those of us yearning to create. Art classes were less about expression and more about replication, a hollow echo of true artistic endeavor. We were taught to admire Picasso from afar, but never to unleash our own…

Did You Know? Mount Everest isn't the highest Mountain.
Tumblr media
Speaking of mountains, there's a reason Mount Everest isn't technically the highest. Mauna Kea in Hawaii might seem short from sea level, but it extends far down below the ocean floor. So, if you measure from its base to its peak, Mauna Kea takes the crown! (Source)

So… You Wanna Walk in Naked? (Tattoos and Design Decisions).
Tumblr media
My first tattoo? DIY. I found a cool image online, slapped it on the table at the tattoo parlour, and BAM! Instant regret (it looked way different on living skin, folks). Second time around? I collaborated with an artist, explained my vision, and they translated it into a masterpiece. Here's the thing: tattoo artists are WIZARDS with a needle. They know how to make a design flow with your body, translate intricate details, and use ink that lasts (unlike my regrettable impulse choice). But listen, if you have a killer design idea and some artistic chops, more power to you! Just be prepared to refine it with the artist to ensure it translates well as a tattoo. So, the question remains: design it yourself or get some pro help. Here's a challenge: sketch your dream tattoo! ✏️ Then, head to a reputable tattoo artist's page and see their designs. Do they vibe with your style? If so, chat with them about collaborating on your masterpiece. Remember, a tattoo is permanent (mostly ), so take the time to get it right. The right design, done well, is a lifelong source of pride (and compliments).

Did You Know: Animal Sleep Oddities
The animal kingdom takes sleep to a whole new level. Here are two fascinating facts that will make you rethink
Tumblr media
1. Sloths Sleep Up To 20 Hours a Day! These slow-moving mammals are masters of relaxation. Their low metabolism and leafy diet allow them to conserve energy and spend most of their time hanging out (literally) in the trees. [Source: National Geographic - https://kids.nationalgeographic.com/animals/mammals/facts/sloth] 2. Dolphins Never Fully Sleep! These brainy creatures rely on a technique called unihemispheric sleep, where one-half of their brain sleeps at a time while the other half stays awake and alert for danger. This allows them to continue swimming and breathing while getting some rest. [Source: Live Science - https://www.livescience.com/7763-dolphins-eye-sleeping.html]

Did you know butterflies taste with their feet?
Butterflies don't have mouths in the traditional sense! Instead, they rely on their proboscis (a long, straw-like organ) to sip nectar. But before they commit to a flower, they use their tiny taste receptors located on their feet to sample the nectar first! These taste receptors help butterflies find the most sugary flowers, ensuring they get the best fuel for their fluttering journeys. So next time you see a butterfly delicately landing on a flower, remember, it's giving it a taste test first!

Did You Know? What is an Anechoic chamber?
The world's quietest room is located at Microsoft's headquarters in Washington. It's an anechoic chamber designed to absorb almost all sound, reaching a level of quietness of -9 decibels. That's quieter than human breathing! Scientists use this room to test products for noise reduction and to study the effects of silence on the human body. Imagine a world so quiet you can hear your own heartbeat!
