WORLD IBD DAY
Today is World IBD Day! So, what is IBD?
Today is World IBD Day! A day created to bring awareness to a disease that has a lot of stigma. Most people have only heard of Inflammatory Bowel Disease thanks to the awful commercials on TV promoting medications for the disease. But IBD is so much more than what the commercials show. Over 1.6 million people in America have either Ulcerative Colitis of Crohn’s Disease and over 30,000 people are…

BOOK v. TV: Alias Grace
I want to know if Grace Marks is truly guilty or a victim of circumstance... the reality is that we will never be sure of the truth at this point.
I’m pretty sure the norm is to READ a book before you watch the adaptation… right?! I guess I did it backwards this time because I found Alias Grace on Netflix and plunged in. It’s a short series that follows Margaret Atwood’s novel Alias Grace which is based on Grace Marks, a woman convicted of brutally murdering her employer and his mistress in the 1800s.
Let me tell you, the Netflix…

A Man Called Ove
A Man Called Ove is such a uniquely poignant yet boisterous story and everyone should read it.
I’m calling it now- this is going to be one of my favorite books of the year! I’m kicking myself because
I’m calling it now- this is going to be one of my favorite books of the year! I’m kicking myself because I’m so disappointed that I didn’t read this earlier! Frederick Backman has received quite a bit of hype over the past several years and while I’ve noticed his popularity, I just never…

New Release! The Sisters Hemingway
New Release! The Sisters Hemingway is a pleasant and fast-paced novel that focuses on family secrets and the bond of sisterhood.
I love book mail and I happened to receive this book in the mail from the publisher. It immediately caught my attention for a few reasons. The first being the character names. The Sisters Hemingwayfollows the story of 3 sisters named Martha, Hadley, and Pfeiffer. Of course, if you’re a Hemingway fan you know that these also happen to be the names of his wives. And if you’ve ever listened to our…

My Discovery of Outlander
This story may be older than I am but I can vouch that it has absolutely aged well. Outlander left me with a book hangover and honestly, who would have thought that I would read an 800 page book in a WEEK?!
If you walk into my house you will immediately notice the amount of books that I own. They are on shelves. They are stacked on top of shelves. There are stacks of books on tables which I’ve been justifying as ‘decor’ because I am simply out of room. Some of these books I have read and some reside in the category of my never-ending ‘To Be Read” list. There are so many new books I want to read and…

Girl, Wash Your Face on Audio
Why I think everyone needs to read Girl, Wash Your Face
Are you ready for a two-part review? If not, brace yourself because it’s about to happen!
Let’s talk about audio books first. I have never had anything against audio books but previously my only personal experience with them happened to be high school AP English classes in which I had to ‘read along’ with a cassette tape playing in the background. Let me tell you, that is definitely one of the…

Summer is winding down... but your sense of adventure doesn't have to!
Summer is winding down… but your sense of adventure doesn’t have to!
Summer is winding down… but your sense of adventure doesn’t have to!
I’m definitely a young’n… people love to remind me all the time. I’ve even been told that I’m “still a baby!” and my mature, 25 year old self has to contain the rage that is brought forth by insinuating that my diaper still needs to be changed.
But one of the greatest things about my young age is the fact that I grew up in a…

Review: The Last Time I Lied
If you need a thriller to keep you awake then check out The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager
Anyone else use Book of the Month? I can’t decide if I enjoy it or not… Some months I get really excited about EVERY book and other months, not a single one sounds interesting. But the July picks weren’t half bad! I actually chose two. One of which I still haven’t gotten to but the other was The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager.
Sager also happens to the be the author of Final Girls, a thriller…

Summer Read- America for Beginners
Looking for your next summer read! I found it! Check out my review on America for Beginners PLUS hear from author Leah Franqui!
Is there anything better than lazing around in full sun with a book and cold drink in your hands? It’s probably one of my favorite past times… especially if I find myself on a beach with sand between my toes (and everything else that sand gets stuck between).
I’ve been very strategic this summer to ensure I have adequate time to delve into as many books as I can! Let me tell you, I have read some…

Fun Read- Where'd You Go, Bernadette? by Maria Semple
Fun Read- Where’d You Go, Bernadette? by Maria Semple
Sometimes you just need a book that isn’t too heavy and emanates a positive attitude. I’ll be honest, I read a TON of books that are, without a doubt, depressing. I’m not sure why but these are the types of stories that feel real to me and in their own way, they feed my soul. But reading these books back to back, I have to find something a little lighter and refreshing every once in a while and…

Review: Good Neighbors
Review: Good Neighbors With a story you can't put down and a twist that leaves you doing a double take...
Have you noticed the amount of books that have recently been published that have a strong theme revolving around neighbors or a neighborhood? It’s fascinating! I’m definitely not a psychologist but if I had to guess, I would honestly attribute the success of the rash of this specific them to our current cultural climate! (That’s sounds pretty corny and a little too sophisticated for me, but roll…

Review: The Woman in the Window
Review: The Woman in the Window
I love mysteries, I love suspense, I love Forensic Files (even though it completely creeps out my boyfriend that I watch it all the time). I don’t actually know why I am so enthralled with murder mysteries but they are so intriguing and leave me terrified enough to ensure all my doors are locked. So when The Woman in the Window by A. J. Finn came out, I definitely had to get my hands on it!…

Great news! I have been reading. A LOT. Which is great. Because it is for YOU and YOUR benefit. Just kidding, I really just love reading. This week I have a NEW RELEASE to tell you all about! Sing, Unburied, Sing
Jesmyn Ward is my current hero. If you pick up this book, you'll hang on every word. You will be heart broken. Fair warning.
Poetry. Every sentence of Jesmyn Ward’s novel has its own poetic license to it. Maybe that’s why I found myself unable to put down Sing, Unburied, Sing even though it is so realistic that it slowly breaks your heart over the course of its 200+ pages. Sing, Unburied, Sing follows Jojo, a young boy who lives on a pallet beside his mother’s bed inside the house of his grandparents. His grandparents…
