I understand that the book versions/ descriptions of the hunger games characters are important bc the movies whitewashed a couple characters and basically d12 as a whole but it would make NO SENSE for Haymitch to have been his book description in the new movie. Like how would you even explain that??? “yeah my guy Haymitch? He was born brown but he was traumatized so bad that all the melanin got sapped from his skin and now he’s white and blonde.” 😭😭😭 would be progressively get whiter as the movie went on??? you know that argument that Haymitch’s personality in sotr doesn’t make sense because of what he’s like in the OT?

well I have a counter argument.

a criticism I’ve seen of sotr is that Haymitch’s loverboy personality contradicts his character in the original trilogy of books, and minimizes the character we see of him at 16 (you know, clever and calculating ect ect) when Katniss and Peeta watch his Games.

but here’s the thing. The Games are Capitol propaganda. That’s sotr’s whole theme. That they control the narrative and that whatever they say happens is the truth and nothing but the truth.

and before anybody comes at me like “oh Alder, but that’s JUST sotr, and it’s a bad book and doesn’t make sense anyway so that doesn’t matter!” or whatever other stupid argument, lemme point at someone you all know and love:

or so goes the Capitol propaganda. We all know what the truth is — but only after Finnick peels back the blinds.

Finnick has established that the Capitol controls the narrative since Mockingjay. And we believe him, don’t we? We believe that the Capitol twisted and lied about how he was used and abused.

So my question is, why is it so hard to accept that the calculated teenager we see in Catching Fire was nothing more than Capitol propaganda too? That he always has been.

And why have we never considered that Haymitch’s story could have more to it (prior to SotR).

I never once thought about how that little blip we saw of the 50th Games could be hiding so much, but that is exactly what happened. What was always happening, because the Capitol was always in control.

also, Haymitch is still the clever boy we know! He’s smart! He doesn’t have to be cold about it to be calculating! He’s also just extremely warm and caring about other people too <3

Lou Lou is such a shallow Lucy Gray rip off, I don't see how anyone could like her character. Her name begins with L, real original. She sings and it's this whole big thing about her cultural identity. Wow, another song, great. She's associated with birds (named after a canary). She has a pet snake. She's supposed to be this mystery that the reader and protagonist never get enough information to understand - what happens to her at the end of the story? We never know. Suzanne got real lazy writing this one.

(Jokes aside, this has way more points than the argument its parodying. But that just shows how ridiculous they both are.)

ppl who r like “heartstopper is too happy!” pmo bc that’s where it starts and ends!! Queer ppl cannot be happy for the life of ourselves 💀💀. The marauders fandom? Angst, sad, depressing. Victor's who I think are Body Doubles like Lou Lou

The whole louella and lou lou switch must've become a typical practice for when things went awry when tributes died unexpectedly. I don't think that the capital would abuse this opportunity because i feel like if they did i too often then people would begin to pick up on it....but still I wonder. Could some of the victors possibly be mimics??? A lot of the time, tributes are so near death at the end of the games. so I was thinking... what if they died before their victory tour could even begin and Snow ordered for a body doubles to be created in order to take their place??? Especially the Victors in catching fire who aren't in on the rebellion.

It's mentioned that the morphlings are kind of odd and and that they won their games through hiding (which in my opinion seems like an easy cover up from the capitol). But the person I suspect the MOST of being a body double is Woof from District 8 who was a tribute in the 3rd quarter quell and won his games (12th-15th annual games. It's unclear.) WHY WOLF YOU ASK?:

1) ACCORDING TO KATNISS IN CF, HE'S HARD OF HEARING 2) Both him AND LOU LOU put poisonous things in their mouths at training stations 3) Katniss describes him as confused and unaware of whats going on, just like how Lou Lou is. I JUST CAN'T IGNORE THE GLARING SIMILARITIES BETWEEN SOME OF THE VICTORS AND LOU LOU. THERES NO WAY IN HELL THAT LOU LOU IS THE ONLY BODY DOUBLE AND THERE'S GOT TO BE AT LEAST SOME VICTORS THAT GOT CAUGHT IN THE MIX. And who knows? Maybe something happened to Woof (perhaps self inflicted?) before the 3rd quarter quell Snow ordered a body double for him. I think it's unlikely that a body double would've survived as long as he as because it's established that Woof is an elderly man so he probably wasn't replaced during his victory tour but still. I think theres gotta be a body double who was freshly a victor (By that I mean created because the original victor died before they could be crowned or go on their tour). Snow himself said that there must be a victor for each Hunger Games and I wouldn't put it above him to lie and say that there was. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
