This piece is called 'Masking'
People mask for many reasons. Trauma and neurodivergence makes it difficult for some to share their true selves with the world, even those who are closest to them.
Working together we can make spaces where people can open up and ask for the help they need so they no longer need to keep the happy mask on all the time.

Broke Witch Help
We all go through times where we don't have the greatest amount of money in our pockets, especially with the economy these days no matter where you live in the world.
You don't need to buy things to be a legitimate witch, and here are a few things that can help you figure out how to get things you may need for your craft if you don't have a lot of money.
Grimoire/BoS Alternatives
Your grimoire and/or Book of Shadows doesn't have to be fancy at all! You can always get the most basic notebooks and use these as ways to write down your personal experiences, things you've learned and spells. Even this isn't for everyone.
The notes app on your phone can totally be your magical notebook, but if you want a specific app you can always start a secret tumblr page just for yourself or even get an app like Penzu where you can get one free online journal for free!
There are of course other apps that you can use, but the important thing is that you can freely write what you want! I just started a dream journal on Penzu myself and it's been really helpful!
Herbology
People don't realise just how easy it is to go outside and pick things up sometimes. Woods are everywhere and as long as you have a good education on what it is you're picking up then you can totally pick up plants and leaves in your local woodland. I would usually link to a source about the topic at hand, but unfortunately I think this is one everyone will need to research about their own area as different plants grow in different places.
Crystals/Stones
In all honesty the first stones I worked with were rocks I picked up off the ground, I felt their energy and worked with them how they told me they worked better. If you aren't someone is able to read energy this way, you can definitely still use rocks you've picked up from the ground. Whilst stones like amethyst and quartz have good qualities and look pretty, stones from the ground can still be pretty powerful. They're just as natural, and just as part of natures way as the ones we have attributed certain abilities to.
Knowledge and Fact Checking
As I'm sure everyone on this website is aware, the internet isn't the best place for gaining knowledge and fact checking is always best before making a decision on whether information is truthful or not. The truth is, books about witch craft and paganism are just the same anyway. Unless there are many sources saying the same thing, it's important to question and fact check everything you read. Whilst books can be an integral part of the craft for some people, they aren't necessarily the most important thing.
Anything we find in books we can find on the internet, and all media needs to be questioned. This part of my post is mainly a part to say, don't feel bad for not having a library of books on the craft. There are many ways to learn.
If there are any other things you may need help with please do let me know. If you have any extra insight, please also add to this.

getting back into your practice after a break
Life is life and sometimes you take a break from or lose touch with your practice for a time. Once that moment passes and you want to get back into it, it can feel different from was before and can be really daunting. So, what to do you to get back into the swing of things? These are just a few of my ideas and tips that I personally use as an ADHDer who constantly swings ona spectrum between hyperfixation and total apathy.
Step 1 - Cleaning up
Usually when I grow distant from my practice I just kind of drop and leave things as they are and don't touch them for a while. That means that the first thing that I do is clean all of that up to pick up where I left off. In this step you can do things like:
Clean up your altar(s)
Cleanse your space
Refresh/reapply protections
Get new supplies
Step 2 - Clarifying intentions
In this step, I like to clarify why I'm getting back into my practice. I like to look at the issues that I'm facing and how my practice can help me overcome them and in what ways. Sometimes I also like to plan what I want to research in the future so I know what to go for once I get to that point. In this step, you can:
Write a list of issues in your life that you can tackle through your practice
Write a list of research topics you're interested in
Write a list of things you want to do such as spells and rituals
Check the date for any upcoming astrological events, moon phases or celebrations
Step 3 - Do it!
In this step, I look at the lists written in step 2 and figure out what to do. Sometimes I get stuck here so I would suggest doing whatever seems the simplest or what you're most excited to do. This helps you stay motivated and stops you from getting overwhelmed with complicated and intricate spells and rituals. Once you've done the first thing, it's easier to keep going and you're no longer as intimidated.
The list in step 2 can also help you with further research topics and stuff to focus on, so if you struggle with keeping up with your practice in general, I would suggest keeping that one up to date and using it regularly.
Good luck! I believe in you!

Guide to Drying Herbs
Drying herbs is a simple practice, and there are several methods to choose from depending on the type of herb and your desire use. Here's how I dry my herbs:
1. Drying on Newspaper
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This method works well for larger leaves and herbs that don’t need to be hung.
Lay the herbs flat on a clean sheet of newspaper in a single layer.
Place the newspaper in a dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight.
Turn the herbs occasionally to ensure even drying.
Once the herbs are dry and crisp to the touch, they’re ready for storage.
2. Hanging Herbs Upside Down
Tumblr media
Perfect for longer herbs, like rosemary, lavender or thyme, that can be tied together.
Gather small bunches of herbs and secure them with a cord or string.
Wrap the herbs loosely in a breathable cloth, like cheesecloth or muslin. This helps them air freely while catching any small leaves or flowers that may shed during the drying process.
Hang the bunches upside down in a cool, dry place with good airflow. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can degrade the color and potency.
Once the herbs are completely dry (they should crumble easily), remove the leaves or store them as they are.
I do this with fresh lavender that I put in my closet as shown in the picture.
3. Pressing Herbs
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This method is ideal for preserving delicate leaves or flowers for decorative purposes or rituals.
Place the herbs between sheets of paper (such as parchment or regular printer paper).
Insert the paper into a thick book, ensuring the herbs are spread flat and evenly.
Place additional books or a weight on top to press them.
Leave them for 1–2 weeks, checking occasionally for dryness.
4. Drying Small Petals
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For small, delicate petals or flowers, a rule bag works wonders.
Place the petals or flowers in a breathable rule bag (such as a mesh or cotton drawstring bag).
Hang the bag in a dry, ventilated area.
Shake the bag gently every few days to prevent clumping and to ensure even drying.
General Tips for Best Results
Use Breathable Cloths: Wrapping your herbs or laying them on a breathable cloth allows air to circulate freely, preventing mold while catching any small leaves or flowers that shed during the drying process.
Timing: Dry herbs as soon as possible after harvesting to retain their potency and fragrance.
Environment: Choose a dry, cool, and ventilated area to prevent mold or mildew.
Labeling: If drying multiple herbs, label them to avoid confusion.
Storage: Once dried, store your herbs in airtight containers away from sunlight and moisture.
Using Dried Herbs
Always check if the plant is safe for use before collecting it. Do not make tea or touch anything with unknown properties. Always clean your plants before drying.
Once your herbs are dried, you can use them for teas, rituals, incense, or other magical and practical purposes. Always remember to respect and honor the plants you've harvested by using them mindfully.

Speaking With Spirits
Speaking with spirits can be easy for some and more difficult for others. Whether you're a natural or someone who needs tools to receive messages from beyond the grave, it's important to make sure you keep yourself safe and be respectful of those who have passed on. Here are a few things I think are extremely important when speaking with spirits.
Opening A Circle This may seem very obvious to some, but others may not think to open a circle whilst speaking with the deceased. Whilst the likelihood of you coming across a dangerous spirit is small, trickster spirits are a lot more common than people think. It's important to keep yourself safe by opening a circle. There are many ways to open a circle, if you're unsure leave a comment on this and I'll make a post about how I personally do it but there are many posts about how to do so. It's also important to remember to close the circle properly too.
Being Respectful Remember that the spirits you're talking to are people too. They have lost their physical bodies but they are still people and they deserve the same courtesy that you would give someone who has a physical form.
Ask Questions If you're speaking to someone you knew when they were alive it's important to make sure they are who they claim to be. Ask questions that only they would know the answer to when speaking to them so you can confirm who you're talking to. This again is for safety reasons and also making sure that you're speaking with the spirit you wish to. If they aren't who you're looking for, you can always try again.
Extra Personal Opinion: Even within the world of witch craft and paganism the safety of Ouija Boards is debated. I personally have never gotten one to work though I have met people who claim to have worked with them successfully. I don't believe that Ouija Boards are evil or bad at all. I'm still not fully convinced they work in all honesty, but I do know that as long as you use them safely and make sure you take the right safety measures then you will be safe.

This is your daily reminder that the gods aren’t mad at you. Haven’t given offerings in a while? That’s okay, the gods understand. Their altar is messy? That’s okay, life gets busy, you’ll tidy it when you can. Haven’t communicated with them? It’s okay. You are human. You have priorities and obligations in your mundane life. The gods aren’t mad at you for being human.

Reason I Don't Like Dream Interpretation Books
Dream interpretation is very important for understanding our subconscious mind. From correctly interpreting dreams, we can learn how to handle things that we thought were out of our control.
I myself have had many dreams that I needed to dissect, and in the earlier days within my craft, I would sometimes turn to books to find out what my dreams meant.
The problem with this is that the books offer very brief interpretations that may not even apply to everyone. An example of this is that quite a few books interpret snakes as a bad omen, and that the person dreaming about them was frightened by something within their life and felt as though they were being poisoned one way or another.
I personally love snakes, so that definitely wouldn't apply to myself. My point is that everyone has different fears and different discomforts. We cannot analyse the dreams of our subconscious unless we know how the person feels about things consciously.

The Legend of Stingy Jack
Before we had pumpkins as Jack-O-Lanterns, we used turnips. The Irish believed that the turnips could ward off evil spirits. At this point of history, the Irish didn't even have pumpkins. Later down the line, modern day Americans began using the pumpkins for Jack-O-Lanterns we know today.
Like many Irish traditions, there is a folk tale to go along with the use of Jack-O-Lanterns and today I will tell the tale of Stingy Jack and the Devil.
A long time ago lived a man known as 'Stingy Jack', he was always in the pub and known for tricking people into buying him drinks so he didn't have to buy them for himself.
One day Jack came across the devil himself within the pub. 'I tell you what,' said Jack, 'if you turn into a coin so I can get one last drink I'll let you take my soul.' The devil laughed at such an easy task, and accepted easily. Once the devil turned himself into a coin, Jack snatched it up and stuffed it in his pocket next to a silver cross Jack kept on his person.
A few hours later, Jack pulled the coin and the cross out of his pocket and struck up another deal with the devil stuck in coin form. 'If you promise to leave me alone for ten years, I'll take the cross off so you can return to your proper form.' The devil reluctantly agreed, feeling extremely uncomfortable in his current form.
Ten years came and went, Jack was still as stingy as ever. Whilst walking through the local woodlands one day, Jack came across the devil he owed his soul to. 'It's time you paid the price!' The devil boomed. Jack scratched his chin, looking around for a moment before a thought came to him. 'I'll go with you, I just want one more thing before I do.' The devil scoffed at Jack. 'Could you... just get me an apple from that tree before you take me away?' Jack's voice was pitiful, and the devil rolled his eyes.
The devil climbed the tree, and Jack quickly placed silver crosses at the trunk. 'Let me live the rest of my life in peace, and I will let you go.' Jack said with a smirk. The devil was extremely angry at being deceived again by Jack, but agreed as the creature had no other choice.
Stingy Jack died years later. When he passed he was not allowed into heaven due to the deals he made with the devil. But the devil was still so angry with Jack that he refused to let him in hell.
Stingy Jack is known for his love of turnips and so his spirit hallows them out, and lights a candle within them so his spirit can see in the dark as he roams the streets of Ireland, with nowhere to go.

Me seeing a man in a dress: Holy shit, he looks amazing! I'm so happy to see people breaking gender norms!
Me when I'm wearing a dress but feel like a man: This... is... so... wrong...
the statements "clothes don't have gender" and "clothes can and do invoke gender dysphoria and euphoria for many people" can and should coexist.

Witchcraft and Paganism
This post is something in the front of my grimoire that I wanted to share with others. I am 100% open for discussion and constructive debate if people have other ideas on the topic at hand. Just please remember to be respectful.
Witchcraft
Witchcraft encompasses a wide range of beliefs and rituals. Tracing back to ancient paganism traditions, and folklore the craft often involves a deep respect for nature and ones divine happiness and self truth. There is no right or wrong way to practice witch craft, however many will agree that consent and bodily autonomy of oneself and others is important and spells such as hexes and curses should be a last resort. In popular media there is a depiction that only women can be witches, which is sexist and incorrect. Anyone can identify as a witch and gender has nothing to do with the identity. Some do assign roles in rituals based on gender, however this is purely a personal preference rather than a requirement.
Paganism
Similar to witch craft, paganism has a plethora of paths, though many do have cross over beliefs and traditions. The main distinction between witch craft and paganism is that paganism is a polytheistic religion and includes deities and other spirits, where as witch craft may not. Depending on the path, some pagans do hold rules for themselves however the general consensus for open practices is that the only guideline is to cause no harm to beings that do not deserve it. Some take this further and say harm none, no matter what.

Perhaps I should've worded it better, I simply meant the common misconception of tarot is that Fortune telling is it's only use.
I know many people think that telling the future is the only thing that tarot can be used for, this is where the misconception lies.
Tarot Misconception
Many people think tarot is a tool to tell the future. To some degree, this is true. However, the best way to utilise tarot and is to ask for advice on things.
'What can I do to reach this goal?'
'What is the best way to approach this situation?'
'How can I help serve myself in a positive way?'
These examples are what tarot is best for, as it can help you build a path to success. Whilst the popular 'past, present, future' can be a good start for beginner readers it's important to understand that tarot is a tool that can unlock good planning.
