Hiatus

If you've been following me for a while, you'll know that I often come and go. However, this time it feels like I might disappear for a longer time. I'll be starting my third year at university in September, so I will likely remain busy for the foreseeable future.

I'd like to apologise for all the requests that haven't been answered, unsure if I'll ever get round to them. As you all know, I started PIH as a hobby in my spare time, and in the 5+ years it's been running, I've been creating edits for free. If I ever do come back, that won't change, it will always be free.

I’m sure many of you are aware of what’s going on in the world currently. I’ve never used my following on tumblr to raise awareness on world issues, but I think its time we all stood together. I won’t be doing any requests during this time, and will continue to learn, reflect, educate myself and support charities however I can. Here are two ways you can help - ones I’ve personally used!

why dont you credit any of the artists that you take work from to use? you tell people not to repost or edit your work, and to give you credit. but you dont offer the artists you steal from the same respect

I only use direct screenshots/pictures from anime, movies, drama or magazine photoshoots. I try my very best to avoid using any fanart or artwork made by others. I do stand strongly by that, and if I get a request which only leads me to pictures of fanart - not official scenes from said anime/drama/movie - I don’t do the request. If I’m not very strongly certain the picture is from the official anime/drama/movie, I don’t use it. Simple as that.

Each post states that the original images belong to their respective owners, only the editing is mine. Under fair use, it should be okay to make edits out of sceenshots like I do since it’s not commercial - I do not gain any money from doing this, literally nothing. It’s similar to how you see fan-made music videos of famous tv shows on YouTube. Except with YouTube there is the possibility of gaining ad revenue if your channel is monetised. 

The ‘original artists’ you mention can be classed as the anime/drama/movie producers - which I do credit in a way, since each batch is named after the anime/drama/movie the screenshots are from. The only additional thing I could credit is where I directly found the screenshot, though in past I have used my own screenshots - my Goblin edits feature a lot of my own screenshots. 

I also understand that my edits might look like they use graphics I found online - however I make a lot of it from scratch. I use public fonts as Arial and free for personal use fonts from dafont. I make my own PNG cutouts - my face collages take me at least 2hrs each to make. Essentially everything besides the original picture is made, arranged and selected by me. Previously I’ve used my own art and scanned in textures to make lockscreens too. A lot of other lockscreen blogs (I won’t go into detail since we are talking about my edits not theirs) take pictures and just zoom into them - then post those as lookscreens. I try and avoid doing that as I feel that’s more or less the same thing as the original image. Instead I add my own touch of creativity to my edits - to make them unique and different.

This is one of the reasons why I ask that my edits not be reposted without credit. I have spent hours working on requests before, only to find that someone has claimed them as their own. It’s a very common thing to say in your bio - tons of other lockscreen-making tumblrs have it too. 

A lot of people might not have access to software appropriate to convert images into lockscreens themselves. I make these edits for fun, to practise my editing skills and because a lot of people seem to like them/have liked them in the past. I apologise if this has upset you - it’s not my intention to make anyone feel like that. I really just wanted to make some people happy, especially in these rough times.
