Evidence for short term application ONLY, of anti-psychotics :overuse prevention
https://www.psychiatrictimes.com/view/antipsychotics-and-shrinking-brain
"Animal studies can begin to address these issues. A study in monkeys conducted by David Lewis’ group prompted concern about antipsychotic neurotoxicity several years ago. Monkeys treated with haloperidol and olanzapine for 17 to 27 months lost roughly 10% of their total brain volume, both gray and white matter, compared with sham-treated controls, with greatest volume loss in frontal and parietal cortex.3 Further examination revealed a reduction in the number of glial cells4; a similar postmortem finding in schizophrenia brains previously had been attributed to the illness. However, this study included only 6 monkeys per treatment group and did not provide information on the time course of neurotoxic changes.
Other studies suggest that antipsychotic effects on brain volume may occur rapidly. For example, Vernon and colleagues5 found a significant loss of frontal cortical volume after only 8 weeks in rats given haloperidol or olanzapine.
Evidence of the rapidity at which antipsychotics can affect brain volume in humans was recently provided by Tost and associates.6 These investigators found a significant, reversible decrease in striatal volume in healthy subjects within 2 hours after they were treated intravenously with haloperidol. Loss of striatal volume powerfully predicted neurological adverse effects.
Taken together, these studies suggest that antipsychotics may contribute to early gray matter loss and, later in the course of treatment, to white matter loss. These effects may be dose-related and probably are not prevented by the use of second-generation agents. This argues for minimizing antipsychotic exposure both acutely and long-term. However, we are left with the additional dilemma that a longer duration of untreated psychosis (DUP) may also be neurotoxic. Longer DUP has been associated with poorer symptomatic and functional outcomes7 as well as brain volume loss.8 Studies of DUP have their own methodological limitations and controversies, but they should serve to warn us that the rapid control of psychosis may also be important.
Psychosis at any phase of the illness can be extremely distressing, disruptive, and potentially dangerous for patient and family. New approaches for early intervention are needed and, with existing drugs, the potential for neurotoxicity must be weighed against short-term and long-term clinical gains. In the meantime, clinicians should avoid using antipsychotics unnecessarily and, when needed, use the lowest effective dose."

Thinking a lot about therapy in current mental health system, as basic therapy alone is a component we really need to work on (re)integrating
Navigating the system first hand, it doesn't take long to see current mode of the system is in crisis management, & outpatient maintenance.. ..in order to cut down recidivism & increase true progression, we're gonna need to begin developing "inpatient"/"residential" type Rehabs.. rehabs & clinics that work with University grade curriculum ..cutting edge findings & research, and in a model of "Integrative Medicine" where you could have the space to come off of SSRI maintenance, & maybe, depending on your especial needs of current, work with say 2cb, MDMA, Ketamine, LSD, Psilocybin, & Ayahuasca during your stay ..but all the while yoga, meditation & prayer, healthy diet, and general conversations & experiences backing the progressive integrative potentials at large
(& evolution of current drug rehab programs ...say Bill W's 13th Step")
Theres also the immense service of the entheogenic to the practicioners & therapists personally as well .. in their own lives of course , but too in the psychedelic entheogenic assist in expanded mind maps, psycho-analytical shortfall minimization, the shamanic component, & in resilience ; in addressing the personal toll that picking up case after case can surely have on an individual. ..Psychotherapy may have been more a thing in the past, but there were a lot less patients then..
Backing up a bit we just need to see forward, & step towards..
The psychoactive-integrants will make their way (& of course sooner better) , in the meantime I am allll for therapists & practicioners getting "first dibs" ha ...the major fruit of the psychedelic/entheogen/entheogenidelicdepsyche is dank philosophy, wisdom, & spirit ..& with the current demand of therapy into our current system, this is a huge step.
theres obviously a shit-ton more to go into here, just wanted to cover a couple things that have been of particular 2:note ...
#MentalHealth #Therapy #Forward
,too, and, Mos Def (intention intended) #Cannabis4All
**Another pro to this movement, maybe you really need some Ativan on a couch ....with addiction out the window, this is no longer an issue ..
"A lot of these medicines we're talking about, like ayahuasca and psilocybin, MDMA, cannabis, they all facilitate what's called neuroplasticity, which is the brain sort of growing and changing and rewiring. And there are things called synaptogenesis, which is like new synapses forming. And then there's neurogenesis, which is new brain cells forming.
Anyone who grew up in the '80s has this idea that these drugs kill brain cells, but it's actually the exact opposite — that a lot of these plant medicines and psychedelic medicines, they engender brain cell growth and what's called neuroplasticity, which is sort of new connections being formed and potentially the brain being somewhat rewired, which really helps. That's what's fostering the growth and the change in behavior. And you don't necessarily see a lot of growth and change in behavior when people are taking antidepressants or even maybe going to therapy for years. With really good therapy [that] you go [to] for years, you do have behavioral changes. But to see them after one session is really remarkable. And it's hard to just go back to the daily dose after you see this kind of tremendous behavioral change."

in drafting a guide to mental health patient experience dissociations
one of the buggy components of mental health travels is the dissociations of experience ..really common example, feeling like you've fallen under the freeloader consumer nothing trip, wanting to be of service more than anything, but in process of getting there  ...often i think the process of mental gathering falls into the perception of active laziness..
have been thinking about the quirks of travels in mental health recovery a lot recently , ..there are a lot of dimensions that aren't a part of general awareness , especially with the component of chemical experience  ..so kind of working on a guide concept of sorts to help fill some of the gaps (& looking to make this an interactive collaboration piece)
some points-
-societal ins & outs , experience alone in being sidelined , implications of repeated experiences of such & effect on timeline and life connections
-chemical experiences , dissociations can arise even in inpatient settings where one may just be coming off of an 8-12 hour chemical straight jacket experience through the voids of conscious experience and get the "where the hell are they at?"s
-these combinic dimensions upon reentry to society where its just another day, ..maybe a couple weeks or months gone by, but time is no longer an applicable dimension of measurement in experience , which actually becomes a thing in general relatence department-medication side-effects (potentials from anxiety/akathesia/depression/suicidality to weight gain, sexual dysfunction, gynecomastia, diabetes)
-criminalization complex "they must be up to no good"
-general social implication complex "just stay away from them"
         -catch-22 , isolation = recidivism [...-rentacuddle - https://youtu.be/D1f5lE_j_bU (piece on professional cuddlers) ]
-frustrations via the dissociations with the metabolization or lack-there-of , of ones experience ("putting self in others shoes") that wind up turning any patient into hitler at a board meeting during the fall (which upon recidivisms can become a staple of ones identity ...personally fpr instance, insult trips are my least favorite trips. , sometimes its just the function at hand in breaking up autonomous function in practicioner naturally dissociated from autonomy & autonomous aeffect via being caught up in the "keeping the walls up amidst all the schizophrenia of the sector".  ..or can be just honest nerve reflex upon these dissociations of metabolization of ones current situation.. ...insults=beep beep  ...mental health/nhl analogy, line up shake hands later ..not deemance, rather plea to take a step back)
-inpatient interventions catch-22 , later implications e.g. restraint - theres no fix-all answers here, maybe an integration of scooby snacks will help in minimizing situationional arisals? , ..theta rooms? ..just sometimes post-interventions theres the .. "oh, so its like that." ...again its a catch-22, sometimes it definitely does have to be done. ...maybe some scooby snacks in post-intervened could help as well , ...scooby snack in theta room...
-its much more common for a mental health patient to receive flack in intervention than credit in intervention ...which often leads to later flack interventions & when someone else breaks in society somewhere with some weak ass dumb ass shit (like mass shootings, etc), it adds weight to those already with a load on their backs.
-PTSD "world against syndrome"
-even with macro reassurance, micro components
-dissociations of cause & effects over time heading to i don’t even                  know”s , &/or "demons"
-sometimes high cortisol levels upon reentry to society - increased vulnerability to reaction to otherwise benign stimuli
-general abstract travels that can lead to peaking anxiety levels at something like a coffee shop
tbc in collaboration
general rule of thumb, for everything ...assumptions are no good. cite: humpty dumpty

dissecting epidemia #mentalhealth #societalunrest
most people don't know what a haldol "trip is like
one knockout/akathesicnervelockarmsaroundbackstretch of haldol can be enough to have andre the giant striving to call his mother upon waking
..experiences like this aren't banked in the majorities psychoanalytic libraries, so individuals navigating these experiences most often wind up met with major question marks & head shakes
...on top of this, these drugs lead to shortened fuses and synaptic maladies

"if guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns
which gets me thinking if nukes are outlawed only outlaws will have nukes
..or the great paradox of anarchism, if laws are outlawed only outlaws will have laws
and then there's the other haunting thought, if marriage is outlawed, only outlaws will have inlaws"

note on AA/NA/Etc , The Anonymous Program of Drugs and Alcohol
i can't help but notice some of the side-effects of AA/NA/Etc traveling the welfare sector
AA/NA is a crucial social network. It too is a helpful program in working out of the crisis situations associated with autonomous drug use & risky internal debatory, allowing the afflicted to establish space from & support with their struggles.
The program however is far from perfect. There are flaws in literature (continue to 13th step).. ..Bill Wilson wound up leaving program he created. ..after being ostracized as a result of proposals made to the programs makeup. (13th step)
Bill Wilson partook in some LSD sessions (& with Aldous Huxely) that changed his life, and expanded his viewpoints. ..He felt there was a need to make some adjustments, some shifts & expansions in the literature, which was not agreed upon by the others.
Wilson's last act became demanding a glass of whiskey on his deathbed. .....which he did not receive.
-The most common rebuttal to this is that "Bill's addiction got the best of him”, but the reality is the work ahead of Bill much more than doubled as he discovered the ongoing mission of counter-culture in removing obstacles of enlightenment, restoring freedom, and bringing truth to light.
The current set literature of the anonymous program in long-term application is risky. ..There are A Lot philosophical limitations in there. Addiction has many dimensions to it, and we are in need to expand upon it in this literature. It is essential that we work on the literature of the program.
Why do people relapse all the time?
Its common, i mean this is common anywhere, but common you can find yourself amongst a gossip circle of people are yappin about some individual(s) and their senslessness and weaknesses etc..
Is this Really the Reality though?
Sure there are some people that screw themselves all the time (tho which even in the most frustrating of cases, always goes back to something that happened somewhere) ..but is society, and civilisation really so perfect that its just individuals fucking up.?
As a species, we've somewhat gone astray from the diets, and practices that allowed us to transcend upright onto two feet. ..These diets included substances which we classify as drugs today. "A drug is a drug is a drug" is an extremely dangerous line. ..and its stupid when you're drinking a coffee & smoking a cigarette. ...There are voids in place both individually, and collectively from the dissociation ..Both neurotransmittically & philosophically ..sometimes these cosms play catch", and double the issues as well. The movement to bring these truths back into light is very underway, there are just niches especially in need of some of this sight. ..rough quote by Ram Dass "it can become like being addicted to not being addicted" ...so in that area the yoga, meditation, sadhana practices
Again, The Anonymous program IS a LifeSaving program, And Network. ..There are just changes & updates that Need to be made
