@cjbolan so this is an interesting and valid take! But also, Hades's kids were almost massacred just for being his and his wife was successfully killed. In my opinion, "when he's ready" is a perfectly suitable timescale given what he might have to do (from Poseidon's perspective). He may have to run from his dying mother as the DiAngelos did, and Percy is not prepared to do that at age 12. He might have to fight the king of the gods or something, and that was a five year old.
Poseidon hates to stand back, but getting involved? That seems like it will hurt more.
Poseidon and Sally being good co-parents is really healing something in my child-of-a-divorcee heart. Sally can JUST summon him and he will JUST arrive.
"you won't want to hear it"/"no, but tell me anyway" MEANS SO MUCH TO ME. Like yes! Poseidon bearing part of the mental load means a lot to me.

There's something about Athena, goddess of wisdom, refusing to allow her child to be a free thinker at the cost of her LIFE and schools being a tool to create factory workers, not creative types.
There's something about Hephaestus, god of invention, now making machines that suit himself not the world. He is still selfish. He is still trying.
There's something about Hermes, god of thieves, living off of stolen moments with his son.
There's something about Hades, god of the dead, choosing not to allow more to die on his watch. He makes them work for it, because he is a god and inherently flawed, but thinks for his and others' safety.
There's something about change coming to Olympus, to the highest point. There's something about unrest. There's something about the way anyone can spark revolution.

Regulus Black was a musician.
Sirius never was, although he played the same piano notes. They sounded less poignant under his callouses, less meaningful from Sirius's carelessness. Sirius was not a musician in their mother's eyes.
Regulus would spend hours at the grand piano. Playing the same notes of the same songs over and over again. He had a way of making Beethoven fascinating, Mozart revived and Bach... well, there's not much helping Bach, but Regulus spent an equal amount of time making the dusty songs fresh.
Regulus was a musician of minor chords and melodies. His fingers darted across instruments like they were made for solely that purpose (because they were). Regulus was a musician who thrived on sound.
So why, in his final moments, was it silent?

Lily's used to loss. You have to, in the wartorn era they live in. She hopes one day she will not have to be used to loss, hopes that her black dress will grow dusty and unused. She hopes that she will not have her head tipped permanently in grief.
She's used to loss. She's not sure she can bear this.
ALICE AND FRANK LONGBOTTOM, CRUCIOED TO INSANITY.
There's a certain cruelty to it. To leaving Alice surviving, just barely, on the brink of consciousness. There's a certain cruelty to leaving little Neville, who took his first steps just weeks ago, with just enough of a mother to long for her but not ever enough to truly receive. There's cruelty to leaving him in the care if his grandmother, a vulture of a woman who could hardly stand her first flesh and blood.
Lily decides she'd prefer to just die.
Two hours later, she gets her wish

Lily Evans curses the day she met any pretty black haired people with wide smiles and mirth.
The newspaper clatters from her hand onto cold floor. Her green nails look pale in comparison to her face. She cannot focus on any of the white flaked lilies across her middle finger, nor the golden arches of an M on her thumbs. They make her feel more sick.
The hissing face of the Dark Mark above a house, a far too familiar house, mocks her in the moving photograph. The green light illuminates the pathway that she's trod so many times. Non-combatant. They agreed non-combatant. Why did they go after a non fucking combatant?
The title of the Daily Prophet reads MARY MACDONALD FOUND DEAD.
Lily Evans curses the day she met any pretty black haired people.

"Tell me you didn't," James demands. He's not a simple man, he understands the complexities of situations better than anyone else. However, there's reasons to steal and kill, and then there's reasons to join an anti-Muggleborn terrorist group.
He waits. He's not sure what he waits for, except he is, he's just really hoping he will wait an eternity. Regulus pulls his right sleeve up, and reveals the black ink. The Snake beneath is writhing around, trying to find a shelter from the skull that snaps at the Snake's tail.
Run, little snake, James thinks. Run.
He's not sure who he's talking about.

"You have to pick one, Regulus. The Dark Lord demands soldiers, and I must draft one of you." His Mother said.
Regulus froze. It was him or Sirius or ... both of their parents and them being hunted to extinction. They all knew Sirius wouldn't survive the week, by the Dark Lord's hands or by their family's. Sirius never was good at obeying.
"Me, me, it has to be me-" and he was babbling now, and he was signing his life and liberty away and he was signing his relationship away and he was signing any fondness anyone else had for him away.
And he was signing up to push Evan and Barty away. Those two had a tendency to jump into the jaws of death regardless of how sharp the teeth were, and Regulus couldn't fucking afford it. He was signing it away.
