i want 2 write or readddd a 70k+ fic of like early days like VERY early days DG and BW where its all civilian and domestic stuff with the cape stuff only happening offscreen albeit still impacting civilian stuff at times and where its clear that b just adores him and is adored back but theres so much fighting and tension and gutting stomach-drop missteps and angst and alfred is like part helping angel and part enabling and Bruce, though as we have said adores dg, is totally uncognizant and frankly unappreciative of all of these moments of tenderness and trust and DG doing things for him and changing his life and is just sort of like going thru the motions but all of it means so much to DG who IS cognizant and grateful for all of it and that makes him feel even more insecure of his place there because DG knows Bruce doesn’t really register all of it/feel that way yet and so dg lashes out and on and on and on

i have a firm belief that damian is going to achieve a higher degree of sentience at about 16 years old like he's going to suddenly log in to some more parts of his brain, as happens frequently with 16 year olds. unfortunately instead of having this happen as this does with most 16 year olds, where they realize that mom is like also a fully realized human being and maybe doesn't Actually want to do their laundry, it happens in the middle of the batcave when bruce is talking to dick in the way that bruce frequently speaks to dick, and suddenly a part of his brain becomes operational enough to formulate and then serve him up the thought: Hey. Father is speaking in a diabolical manner right now. Actually. Doesn't he always talk like this?

And while it's great that he has this realization and all he's still 16 and deals with this epiphany by cutting in with a "Why the FUCK are you talking to him like that?" and then lunging at bruce and turning the cave into fucking WorldStar in 2.4 seconds flat

UGH. what if u took in a tiny bright child and loved him so much you literally broke apart when you couldnt have him anymore and then he comes home and works with you and yyou get to have him and you miss him when he is right next to you and you love him so much you cant talk about it and then he gets shot in front of you when you are having a good day and he is cracking jokes and you are laughing except now hes bleeding out in your arms losing consciousness and all you can do is try to hold him together with your fingers and you are covered in his blood and he is covered in your regret and then he is lifeless in a cold sterile room for a month and you cannot do anything about it and. and then he isnt there anymore. and he's gone
