Hi, I'm Isa. I may work up the courage to post some original stuff on here but mainly this is to indulge my profound obsession with Torchwood. She & her // british // minor // autistic

Torchwood Band AU Head cannons
Personally, I play clarinet, and I've been in a few bands over the years.
Toshiko: Tosh plays viola OR harp :>>>>>>> She's definitely playing something unique and special. She's the most experienced player and has Jacob Collier-level music theory. She obviously obviously can play piano and synth as well. She's the most respected in any band. She has this absolutely hypnotic use of dynamics and complete control over the sound.
Owen: Percussion! Orchestra Percussion! Tiny guy running around at the back between the timps and the snare, and them big blocks of wood that take no skill to play. And triangle. So silly! In a rock band he plays obnoxiously loud lead guitar, knee sliding with his hair a bit of a mess, half-twat half-heartthrob. He seems like he wouldn't know any music theory but surprisingly he's fairly good at it, just dyslexic.
Ianto: Double bass in an orchestra, bass guitar in a band. Ever-present, quiet, low sound that you don't always notice when it's there, but without it everything completely falls apart. Maybe bassoon on the side? Also headcanon Ianto has perfect pitch which never falters and can play anything from memory. In some corner of my mind he plays drums as well, because you got this calm, reserved type of guy who then smashes the hell our of the drum kit and you're like. Wow. He must have a lot of pent up rage.
Gwen: Hmmmmm. Oboe? A bright, striking sound which leads the group and requires a lot of preparation. She's been playing the shortest amount of time compared to the others, and yet her sound is distinct and sonorous. I could also see her with a cello. She actually really struggles with reading music but pretends that she doesn't. In a rock band she sings, all confidence.
Jack: Tuba because its such a goofy instrument. Like, he's sitting on the back row with his enormous legendary tuba all curled around him and plays way too loud all the time. I can only see him with brass: trombone, french horn, euphonium. No idea what he might play in a rock band.

HCs for the Torchwood team as Teachers
Jack teaches P.E. Because. Yes. No one actively dislikes him but he's generally known for being a bit mad. I.E American and aggressively positive all the time. He never comments on bad behaviour and is constantly grinning and playing a character of himself for the lads, which means they do get engaged in his lessons. The school would defo use his charisma to have him run open days and assemblies and stuff. He's also in all the school shows, any of the chances for teachers to embarrass themselves. He would eat that up. Unfortunately I think he would absolutely make his group do The Bleep test, but he'd also want to participate, so after most people are out he's just running for a solid half the lesson while his group watches. He gets laughed at and it's the talk of the school. Then when they go to tournaments and stuff students at the other schools also noticed him specifically because, uh, he's pretty noticeable, and he becomes known as a bit of a legend in the community.
Toshiko teaches Computer science and Information Technology of course. She ended up with a physics set because of staff vacancies and sometimes students come to her for help with maths if they're otherwise too intimidated. I think her classroom would be super calm. She would set so much homework and punish pretty harshly if not completed. She's generally respected and some people find her boring, but she's the best person to have as a tutor (form teacher.) They go all in at Christmas, and she gives out lots of chocolates. Tutor time is just quiet drawing or revision to music while she takes lots of time to speak to everyone individually and learn about them. She'd spend a lot of it just chatting and probably tells them a fair bit about her life story and school in Japan and her interests. She treats all students equally and it does have an impact after she brings out the best in some of the more gobby and unengaged ones. I also feel like she would hold a senior leadership role like Head Of Science or Head of Year Seven. She's been teaching for a while.
I don't know that Gwen would be a subject teacher to be honest. I think she's either Head of Behaviour or SENco (disability support) She's the one with an enormous coat and heavy lanyard and frazzled hair. She's awfully condescending and constantly gets made fun of (for good reason tbf) I am not a Gwen basher but I think she'd be annoying in a school. We see a few times in the show she tries to comfort people because she wants to feel like she's more emotionally mature than them, and it reminds me of the teachers who see a kid looking upset and refuse to leave them alone because they're just so nice apparently, then explain to the child that their problem is entirely invalid and it's somehow their fault. Needless to say, students don't like her. However, the other teachers do, as does Rani's Dad the head teacher, who's name I can't remember. They think everything she does must be brilliant because she was in the police. She does assemblies about it. She does improve behaviour because people don't want to have to deal with her.
Owen teaches Chemistry. Owen bears an uncanny resemblance both physically and in personality and mannerisms to my irl chemistry teacher and I can't ignore it. He doesn't really realise what he's doing but he sometimes lets on personal information which the class cling on to, but he's never like "My partner." Anyone he communicates with outside of the school is just "my mate." I think he'd be super gentle and sweet to the year sevens and the second they're in year eight he treats them the same as every one else, I.E bitchy and exhasperated. He falls out with a lot of students and they start skiving because they can't stand him, equally the students that like him are getting brilliant results. He can't stand students who answer back; "Have you ever met someone with the personality of a damp pillowcase?" so sometimes he's just arguing with someone who he should really send out while the rest of the class are laughing their heads of silently. He absolutely favours those that behave well and study hard, but he's so willing to criticise them as well. He's so smug about everyone sitting on the science stools while he has a comfy chair.
Ianto does A level Sociology, Politics and Phycology. If it's a school in Wales he probably teaches Cymru in the main school, if not he teaches History at GCSE. Not many people have had him because he's mostly a sixth form teacher. He's super chill in class but in the halls his lack of volume control comes in handy. He's very good at the controlling the class and basically manipulating them into getting all the work done, as such his groups get some of the best exam results in the school. His classroom is the neatest, he never takes time off and is completely organised with lesson plans and resources. He does not get involved with any of the extracurriculars other than running Cymru club, and continues to wear a suit on non uniform days and when its 30+ degrees. He holds everyone to the same high standards regardless of whether they're eleven or eighteen, and speaks to everyone the same way. There's no such thing as a silly question in his class and he makes everyone feel very comfortable. He's never not in teacher mode. None of his students can imagine him outside of school, they theorise that he despawns the second he walks out of the gates. He never mentions his life so he's been (jokingly) shipped with just about every member of staff. Some of the students pester other teachers to tell them about him.

HCs for a TSJA & Torchwood crossover.
There are precious few fics about it which I find to be a bally shame™
It takes place over several months. This is its own series.
Starts with the tw team posing as teachers at Clyde, Rani and Luke's school for whatever reason...
Mr Smith is incredibly gracious and polite to Toshiko and Toshiko only. Compliments her in every conversation. It creates all sorts of ridiculous discourse about the Mr Smith/K9 relationship. But that's fine because K9 loves her too. Tbf I don't think Tosh is autistic, more of a undefined neurodivergent, but the way she would react to Mr Smith. All her dreams come true.
Owen and K9 are slagging everyone (and each other) off. Also at one point they have to pair up and Owen gets a pathetic "Why do I get the dog" moment.
Ianto and K9 needlessly formal hyper intelligent sarcastic side characters 🤝 The one liners that would come out of this. Also they bear shocking resemblance to C3PO from Star wars but also that's a cyberman which is a whole other conversation.
Gwen, Rani and Sarah Jane spend the whole time gossiping about anything and everything. Politics, boys, aliens. Rani has yet another Girlboss Mother. I also feel like Gwen and Gita would bicker.
Owen and Clyde bond as the supposedly-streetsmart-third-wheelers with absent fathers of the group and think everything is ridiculous apparently. Together. But there's definitely some sensitive conversations there too.
Ianto and Luke join forces and cause an autism black hole with the astronomical (physical) density of their combined autism. Ianto makes Luke laugh for the first time that isn't "Clyde has told me this is funny :DDD" and teaches him humour that makes sense in his mind. Ofc they both canonically have photographic memories as well so I bet they do competitions over it.
Sarah Jane absolutely dotes on Ianto and can't get enough of him. "Can we keep him?" (As though she doesn't make the decisions) Just finds him so charming and witty and because he gets on so well with Luke as well as being the youngest of the tw team she mothers him to all hell. He doesn't know how to react just is very polite.
Imo Jack/Ianto and Luke/Clyde is a very similar relationship dynamic and Clyde probably asks Jack for advice or smt.
When the team go to Ealing for whatever it is they need to investigate, Jack either sorts out with Sarah Jane for them to move into no. 10 Bannerman Road, god knows they have enough room, or they sort something else out. If they do the first, them all living together is something to get used to and Ianto constantly hides away from mealtimes and stuff because he needs time alone. It's either "My teachers secretly also know about aliens :0" or "My head teacher lives opposite me and is also my friend's dad, and now half my teachers live in my house."
Owen and Rani are very different so they end up never really talking to one another, but when they do it turns out they get on.
I know there aren't many Jack ones. Maybe I'll add some later. Also I'm going to make another post about the Torchwood team as teachers >:)
I would be absolutely honoured if someone took it upon themselves to write this oml

Why Restricted Archives Entries 031-049 is my favourite Torchwood Audio.
I haven't listened to many so far, and of course nuance is a thing, but I found this audio unique because of how entertaining it is with simply one character in one setting. Obviously this is a testament to everyone's favourite autism boy <3
The ending is kind of enigmatic ?? Because its like "I was only pretending to be a saddo to manage the alien threat >:D" but at the same time what we are shown for the whole audio that this is Ianto when he's not pretending, when he's not being polite. Maybe it shows that he's confident in his true personality to the extent where he's willing to accept that it can be used as a target to the threat, and takes it in his pride. In that case he had been pretending to pretend that he was "morose and lonely" as he put it. Or he was mocking himself in that scene, which also checks out. Either way he doesn't let on that he knows what the alien is until the very end, so it kind of implies that the whole thing is extremely calculated. But the listener is kept guessing, as are the team, about anything and everything that could be attributed to Ianto's personality.
It also gives a voice to the quiet ones. They didn't remember me, they don't listen to me, they didn't invite me, and I don't mind because didn't want to go anyway. If I had been offered I would've said no. But it still hurts. Well, that's just me. Its fine, it's fine, it's fine, I don't mind. Do you want anything? - And I think outside of the TV canon, writers often forget that about Ianto. Tosh is described as shy because of her tone of voice, but Ianto doesn't even allow himself to appear timid. Admittedly its probably hard to portray taciturn characters in media because you only see them when they talk, but I think viewers could take the initiative after he managed to hide Lisa in the archives for so long. James Goss is obviously able to express the complexity of Ianto's character artfully, and what brings it to life as always is GDL's performance. Bro is intensely reserved. More than any other character. He fears being perceived, as do many neurodivergents, and seeks to avoid socialising altogether because he is taken for granted to maintain a mask that is nothing other than useful, with a bit of his uniqueness bleeding through. Though voluntary, this can be very demanding. His true, withdrawn, meticulous, cynical, sarky, camp-y personality would be considered too weird. Because he's like this he gets fed up with how ridiculous the others can be in comparison. And so the cycle continues. His aura is too powerful 😔
"Vacuum cleaner... With vampiric tendencies. Give. me Strength."
Okay I never know how to end Tumblr posts.

What an honor !!!
This is from Kiss Kiss Bang Bang when they're in the car with John Hart. John is being horny about various girls through the window, apparently unaccustomed to the sexual conservativeness of 21st century humans, and Owen says "Oh god he's worse than Jack." Hart makes the comment about the poodle and Gwen says "That's a poodle 😐" Like that. That's the scene. <3
To paraphrase Torchwood a bit
Newly Summoned Swiss: *excitedly* Oh my Satan, what is THAT?!?!
Mountain: *genuinely confused* That? That’s a poodle.
Swiss: It’s GORGEOUS!
Mountain: Swiss. Please do not fuck the poodle.
I feel like I should know this but I cannot for the life of me remember this bit 😭😭
I've seen Torchwood a bunch of times but I'm going to ask my resident expert @r3verse-the-polarity to give me more context lmao

It is probably a neurodivergent thing because I feel like a lot of the people I know relate;
a person, regardless of how self-aware or intentional they are in their aesthetic or personality, is not just themselves, standing or sitting with you. One individual has a whole kind of "vibe" about them, which is very specific to them because it is the fusion of their style and personality and interests. Obviously the popularization of "aesthetics" through social media probably has a lot to answer for in this, but it's kind of nice.
This middle aged white man in a black puffer jacket and chinos... Mustard and lake water, TV ambience and coffee, enduring love, working hard, engineering.
Like, obviously this is all artistic and romanticised but I just get it.
I think that could be part of why music is so attractive to us. Every song is a whole atmosphere, and an album is a whole vibe And most musicians have a defined, manufactured visual and personal aesthetic to them. I feel like sometimes musicians and actors play a persona of themselves in interviews. We get so much more information from a subject than just... It.
Maybe and sometimes definitely it's wrong if we create so much chaos around looks and fashion before we know someone through conversation, and certainly we should not make assumptions about one another. I know that that sentence didn't make much grammatical sense but that's the way I thought it.
Creating characters I start with a vibe and it creates the person, rather than starting with the person and learning the "vibe" like we do in reality.
And I feel like this is when nd people become truly creative. We are so attracted to media because it's a controlled way of observing the world.
