I never wanted to learn how to cook because my mom, grandma, aunt, and everyone around me told me I should learn cooking since it would come in handy after marriage. And I never wanted to be identified as a wife whose cooking is great. I didn’t want to be someone’s personal cook for my whole life. But suddenly, quietly, I’m learning to cook—because I want to make meals for myself. I want to make my favorite dishes. I wish they had told me to learn cooking for myself. So that I could make the foods I like.
