The not so glamourous life of a Crow

The team ask Lucanis about his life as a Crow, as Rook, who is also a Crow, is suspiciously quiet about their organisation. He quickly realises how spoiled and privileged his childhood was, growing up in one of the major houses, compared to a lowly Crow like Rook who had been forcibly recruited as a child.

I loved DA:TV, however one of my grievances with it is how it almost glamourised the Crows, making them out to be more of a Mafia-like group rather than the one Zevran Arainai describes to the Hero of Ferelden during his time travelling with them. I have a theory that maybe it seems glamourised in DA:TV because we're dealing with those at the top of the Crows, the top Talons. Whereas people like Zevran (whose experience I have somewhat mimicked for Rook, along with a smidge of Black Widow's backstory from Marvel) have a very different outlook on the Crows. I wanted to keep the cruelty and hardness of the life Zevran lived with the Crows, and show that perhaps there are two sides to the Crows - those who are born into the major houses like Dellamorte and De Riva, and those who are forcibly recruited, like Zevran was. It's a theory, anyway. Hope you enjoy!

A Champion's Loss

Hawke returns to Skyhold to help the Inquisitor in their fight to protect Southern Thedas whilst Rook and their team fight the Ancient Elven Gods up North. However, upon her return to the historic building, Hawke is the last person to learn that their oldest and dearest friend is not returning.

As they near the final battle, Rook and Emmrich have an argument about their age difference and Emmrich's fear of mortality and death that is coming between them. It's not until Emmrich loses Rook in the Fade prison that he realises he has never really lived, hiding in fear, and the only time he had truly felt he was living was at her side.

I'm really enjoying DATV. I've almost finished the game and it's been a great ride, but it definitely has its faults. It lacked in the writing department at times, and in this fic I've rewritten scenes in the way I would've loved to see happen, and expanded on certain things that I felt were left out or that I would've loved to see. This isn't a slight against the devs and writers at all, but that's what fanfic is for - to fill in the gaps! There are spoilers for DATV so beware if you've not finished the game or want to romance Emmrich and go in blind!

I’ve been playing Dragon Age: The Veilguard and whilst I’ve enjoyed a lot of aspects to it, I’ve also felt quite disappointed. It’s giving me whiplash honestly.

The urge to just write a fanfic that details the entire story of DATV but adds in the scenes that I felt were missing, extends emotionally charged moments so they don’t end in a blink, add more romance scenes between characters to make their chemistry genuine and not feel forced, and add a little more conflict between companions is strong 😅

Would it take me ages? Yes. But am I tempted to do it because I don’t think we’ll get a patch anytime soon to fix these things? Also yes.

I’m on the final stretch of the game. Once I beat it…I’ll see how I feel.

No disrespect to the writers or developers of the game. I know they had a very messy development, and you can definitely see that in the game, but I’ve read some great fics so far since the game released that adds in the things we fans are missing!

When a villain attack occurs during a family outing in town, Present Mic and Eraserhead jump into action to save lives, leaving Hitoshi to stay back and stay safe. He gets lost in the rushing crowd, however, and ends up bumping into a couple who look eerily like Shouta...

Shouta is extremely resistant to the idea of his parents entering his adopted son's life. They were absent, neglectful parents who left Shouta to fend for himself growing up so they wouldn't have to be parents. He has sworn since the day he began fostering (and later adopted) Hitoshi that he would do everything that his own parents did not, being present in his son's life and letting him know he is loved, so when his parents announce that they want to built a relationship with not only his son, but him as well, Shouta is against the idea. But Hitoshi sees the conflict in his Dad's eyes, knowing that despite outwardly being stoic and indifferent to the situation, he's hurting inside, and sets about trying to make things right in this tense situation.
