Repost from my alt @grumblebricks Let's have some passionate debates today and not fret about hurt feelings, because on the road to new knowledge we will bump into each other. Sometimes being offended just means a deeply held worldview has been challenged. So being offended is a sign your crystallized worldview is cracking. You may discover something about your favourite celebrity, political party, or deeply held scientific belief. That said, let's not cause offense for the fun of it, it should be no more than an occasional accidental product of unlimited conversation. It is an inevitability that we offend each other on the road to truth, as each of us has a slightly different worldview and tolerance level. Freedom of speech includes the freedom to cause offense, the issue of deliberate harm only occurs when you can be proven to have gone out of your way to cause it. If I for example was to express my freedom as an atheist, a great many people may feel personally attacked. That is not because my speech is cruel but because to them, god is someone they are emotionally attached to. So a conversation about such huge subjects inevitably causes offense. I am sometimes offended when people pray for me or my family. I would much rather them send me a kind message or something else tangible. But my offense doesn't (and never should) limit their religious freedom. We are still friends at the end of the day. Regardless of our differences. I have had heated arguments with my favourite people before. And whilst initially it may cause slight hurt, if you're both smart, you'll both learn from it. So go and cause trouble. Go question authority. And I mean every authority. Your idols, your gods, your governments and parents and even yourself. I don’t understand tumblr.

I’m here to write stories and support other writers and weirdos, but I am deeply, deeply confused.

I first toyed with a friend’s account in college in 2011, and it was so alien to me that I abandoned the idea of tumblr entirely (that and a general anxiety of meeting people online, for reasons). I got one again in 2018, and remembered it this morning. So here I am. But it sort of feels like the new poetry. It’s all over the place, which usually means I’ll understand something right away. But I don’t know. I don’t know how to find things and things keep popping up where I don’t want them to and so far I haven’t found anything I like

I was on wikihow trying to work out how to rename my blog and the button was right there. Maybe I am just old.

I write this so my future self, who is no doubt more competent (we hope) will laugh at it. The tag is there because I want to be part of something here. I hope my technical inadequacies don’t make that impossible

One of the greatest pleasures in modern life is that I can wake up and easily find wisdom such as this without even leaving my bed. The only downfall is the allure of finding more, which leaves me quite often to sitting here for much longer than may be considered healthy. I was hungry two hours ago but started reading about the meaning of life. I have ascertained that the meaning of life exists only in the moment in which life is lived, that is to say that meaning is in the present. Any goals or memories are dead, you are only here now, as a collage of your regrets and ambitions. Do what makes you happy now. So your goal to own a shiny car in five years is really a goal to work a little toward it today.
