“Muuuummmmm, I’m home!” Y/N called as she closed the door behind her, she was greeted by the energetic golden Labrador that had been her best buddy since she was four. “Hey Doug, how have you been? Have you been a good boy? I bet you have.” she crouched down, showing some love to her four legged friend. Y/N hung her gym bag on the banister before walking into shelving area that flowed into the kitchen.
“Hey darling, how was cheer practise?” Her mother called curiously from the kitchen portion of the large room.
“Yeah it was good, pain getting there though. Apparently a train derailed in Manhattan this morning. Not that I have any idea what the hell happened, I forgot to take my phone to cheer and coach was so tough, I didn’t even get a chance to use one of the girls’. Mum, I swear these all day practises are killing me, I’ll be happy when competition season is over.” Y/N huffed, the day clearly having taken it’s toll. She had been cheering for over 7 years and adored every single day, despite the obstacles she regularly faced. Her mum went to reply to her daughters oblivious comments when her husband, her father walked through the door.
“Hello, my beautiful girls” He opened his arms wide, after closing the front door and throwing his keys in the bowl, calling them forward. “I was so worried about you both this morning. Especially when someone doesn't their phone to practice.” Y/N’s father sent a look in her direction as he pulled the two females into a tight embrace.
“Dad. I just left my phone at home. I do it all the time.” Y/N rolled her eyes at her parents protective nature. They've always cared, sure but never too the stage where their love felt this intense. She looked up from the family squeeze only to be met with worried glances.
“You really don’t know what happened this morning, do you darling?” Y/N’s eyes darted from her mother’s, to her father’s, to the tv screen he had just put on. What she saw, frightened her. A donut shaped space ship heading down a New York street flickered across the screen before the image transitioned to footage of Iron Man, Spiderman and, what Y/N assumed was an alien, fought across the street and into the park at the back of the shot. It was Spiderman. Her Spiderman.
Y/N’s eyes grew in panic as she watched her best friend of 6 years be hoisted into the air hanging on to the ship. “And now Tony Stark and Spiderman, whoever he is, are missing. No ones heard from them since this all went down.” Y/N’s father’s voice bringing her back to reality, the panic and fear of what had happened to Peter hitting her all at once.
Yes, she knew Peter was Spiderman. She had for a while. One night, after Vulture had nearly crushed Peter under a building, he didn’t know where to go. Mr Stark had cast him out, Aunt May would freak if she saw the state he was in and, to be honest, there was only one person who knew how to comfort him when he was feeling this low.
Peter mustered up all the energy he could to get himself to Y/N’s balcony, focusing purely on how much he needed her in that moment. Peter had felt stronger emotion than friendship towards Y/N for a while now, but it was when she opened her window, her face showing nothing but concern and heartbreak for the broken boy in front of her, that he realised he loved her.
They spent the night together, first Y/N cleaned his wounds to the best of her ability before getting some of his old clothes he had left at hers for him to change into. Neither of them spoke a word as Y/N left him the bathroom to change, while setting up the second mattress on the floor, parallel to her own. Turning to face the now civilian Peter Parker when she heard the bathroom door open she spoke the first words of the evening.
“So, you're Spiderman?” Y/N quizzed Peter, giving away no emotion in her face or tone of voice.
“Yeah, I guess I am.” Peter responded sheepishly, looking to the floor. “I wanted to tell you sooner, believe me I did. But you’re one of the most important people in my life right now and I can’t put you in any danger, especially after tonight.” He walked over to stand in front over, placing his hands on her shoulders softly. “I won’t put you in danger.”
“Peter,” Y/N interrupted his rambling. She admired the way he blushed, his man concern being her emotion, not the fact that he was currently covered in bruises and cuts. “You were protecting me, I get it. But you have to promise me, whenever you’re hurt, you’ll let me patch you?”
“Always”
Y/N was brought back into the world by the buzzing of her phone, a sound she had not heard all day. Under the confused gaze of her parents, Y/N grabbed her phone from the kitchen side, scrolling through the countless notifications from social media, mixed with texts from Aunt May, Ned, Michelle, and at the very bottom, a voicemail from Peter Parker.
“Hey Y/N, it’s Peter. I know you’ve probably seen the news and I know you’re probably freaking out right now, but I promise you I’m okay. Mr Stark needs my help but I’ll be back soon for you to patch up whatever injuries I walk away from this with.” Peter laughed breathlessly down the phone. “You need to promise me you’ll look after Aunt May. She knows, everything. She’s probably freaking out more than you right now, although sometimes I doubt that’s possible. Do you think, maybe you could tell her I’m staying at yours, you know just so she doesn't have to worry about me. ” The phone line started to crackle. “If it starts to get really bad down there, go to Ms. Potts, she’ll be able to help and then you can tell May if you have to. Mr. Stark said it’s important that our favourite girls stick together.” Y/N couldn’t help but blush at Y/N calling her ‘his favourite girl’ as the interference on the voicemail got louder. “I guess I should have said this sooner but, Y/N, I love….” The line cut out.
Y/N grasped the phone to her chest, tears slowly spilling from her eyes, no matter how hard she tried to keep them in. “Darling, is everything okay?”
“It’s just Peter,” Y/N responded to her mother’s concern, trying to hide her own, as the worry on her parents’ faces began to settle. “I’m gonna, um, go get some air, I guess. It’s just been a hectic day being stuck in the gym and all.”
“Okay Y/N, just stay safe.” She ignored their warning, running upstairs, grabbing her cheer bag on the way up.
Y/N flung her bedroom door open, scrambling around frantically. She dropped the contents of her duffle onto her unmade bed, before stuffing her bag with a coat, a phone charger and her purse. Y/N took a final glance around the room, ensuring there was nothing else she needed, when her eyes fell upon Peter’s hoodie thrown across the back of her chair.
“Come on Y/N, we need to get you home.” Peter guided you carefully towards the front of the house, away from the pounding music.
“No Peter please!! Just one more drink” Y/N whined, grabbing ahold of the banister in an attempt to stay at the party for us long as possible. She was drunk. Peter rolled his eyes at her cute yet desperate actions.
“No Y/N. You need to get home. Come on, say goodbye to Michelle.” Y/N latched her way on to the silent brunette who was holding the door open for the duo, stroking her hair while mumbling incoherent words. Peter would have loved to have a drink, just to forget about the pressures of being the friendly, neighbourhood Spiderman for one night, but he had no such luck. The accelerated healing he had gained meant that it was pretty much impossible for him to get drunk. Yeah he was underage, but what teenager didn’t want to break the rules for at least one night. Instead, he was designated sober person and had promised your parents to get you home before midnight.
“Byeeeeeeee MJ, you awesome yet slightly weird individual.” Y/N stumbled backwards into Peter. “I will see your beautiful face on Monday.” Michelle rolled her eyes sarcastically as she shut the front door. Finally! After 20 minutes Peter had managed to get you out of there.
With one arm over his shoulder, the two teenagers strolled towards Y/N’s house. “You’re staying tonight, right?” Y/N asked.
“Yes Y/N.” Peter confirmed, laughing at the paranoia his best friend was displaying.
“Good. I hate being alone at night.” There was a long but comfortable silence before Peter noticed Y/N was shivering.
“Here,” he offered, taking his hoodie off and placing it around Y/N’s shoulders. “This’ll keep you warm.”
“Mmmm,” responded the slightly tipsy female. “It smells like you. It’s like having a permanent hug.” Peter blushed as Y/N’s drunk ramblings continued, breaking the previous silence. “You know Parker, you’re pretty damn awesome. Some day, you’re going to make someone very, very happy. And that person will be very, very lucky. Oh I wish it could be me… but no.” Y/N trailed into a whisper turning down the pathway towards her home.
“What did you just say?” Peter encouraged Y/N to repeat herself. There’s no way she said what he thought she said.
“Huh?” Y/N quizzed. She was drunk, that had to be the only explanation.
Y/N grabbed the hoodie and brought it to her face, inhaling the familiar scent of her best friend. She swung it over her shoulders and removed the coat she had previously shoved in the grey duffle bag. She may have been drunk that night, but she knew exactly what she said. Her biggest regret to this day was not mentioning her drunken slur to Peter the next Monday when they walked to school together, as they did every morning.
Dialling May’s number, Y/N held the phone to her ear. It rung twice before there was answer. “Y/N thank god! Have you heard from Peter? I’m so worried about him.” Y/N took a deep breath. Telling May where she believed Peter was, and how much danger he might be in, was not worse the stress it would cause.
“Yeah Aunt May, he’s staying at mine. Just wanted to let you know he’s safe.” Y/N lied through her teeth, feeling guilty the minute the lie started spilling from her lips.
“That’s brilliant. Tell that boy he needs to get his phone fixed, I nearly had a heart attack.”
“I’ll let him know, May. Speak to you soon.” Y/N let out a shaky breath she had the phone call end. She had never lied to Aunt May, yet she had just lied about one of the most important things in the world to her, Peter.

The One Where Minho Lost Everything || A Maze Runner One Shot
Minho sat by the rock, just like he did everyday. The sun would rise and set around him but he would just sit there, starring at the monument in front of him. Until Brenda would get him, when it was time to sleep. Sometimes it would be Gally. Occasionally Frypan, but his friends hated to see him like this. They tried to make him feel better and be there for him, but the more time passed, Minho could practically feel them give up.
Around him safe haven was starting to look more and more like a village, Minho knew he should be up and helping them build this new start of their lives. But he couldn’t bring himself to do it. Vince and Jorge tried to get him to help, but they too quickly realized that he had no motivation left. They thought he would feel better after a couple of days but it had been weeks. Sometimes even looking at the stone monument in front of him would be too exhausting and he would fall asleep and sleep until Brenda would get him on her way back to the sleeping base, where he would sleep some more. He can’t remember the last conversation he had. He probably only gave one word answers anyway. He wondered if his voice would actually come out if he tried to talk, or if it’d just be a hoarse rasp in the back of his throat. He hadn't felt hunger since they arrived, but he made sure to catch at least one of the daily meals to not cause more worry than he already has.
He felt bad seeing their sad glances and not being able to do anything to make them happy, or for his own happiness. As cheesy as it sounded, there was a hole in his heart and he didn’t know what to do about it. He lost his best friends. Both of them. A warm tear slipped down his cheek and lingered at the corner of his mouth, making him taste the saltiness of the small droplet. His eyes lingered at the two names engraved in stone. If you looked close enough you could see how Minho’s handwriting transitioned into Fry’s halfway through his name. Minho’s whole body was shaking to the point where Fry had to finished the job for him before also engraving the other boy’s’ name next to it. He didn’t understand how he ever was supposed to get over this.
Slowly he rose to his feet, feeling a bit lightheaded. Everyday he woke with one thought in his mind, ‘I don‘t deserve to be here, not without them.‘ The things he would do, the sacrifices he would give for his two best friends to see this place. He took shaky steps towards the rock and slowly traced their names.
“I’m sorry guys.” Putting his forehead against the rock softly, he could feel how cold it was, how calm. He closed his eyes and stood there, blocking everything out. The waves crashing on the beach became mute as he thought back to the fateful day he would finally see his best friends again, before losing them for good.
In his thoughts he was running through the last city, on his way to Brenda for Newt’s serum. The pain from being tortured and having done basically no physical exercise over the six months he was a prisoner was pulsing from head to toe, but he just pushed it aside. The shoes he put on, after stealing them from on of the guards Gally took out, were at least 3 sizes to big, but he just kept on running. Gally... he still didn’t understand how it was possible he was running after him, he put a spear through his chest for gods sake! When he first saw the Glader he was sure this must be another simulation of WCKD, because there is no way he is still alive, but why would WCKD put Gally in the simulation and not someone he had a closer connection with? Like Ben? He couldn’t think about that now. The intercom came on and he thought he heard Teresa’s voice, but the airship was in sight on top of the stairs so he pushed himself up there not caring about his surroundings.
“Brenda!” The girl turned around shocked to only see two instead of four people looking back at her. “Where is the serum?” And with that they took off. Brenda was incredibly fast, even if Minho was in his best shape he was sure he wouldn’t be able to keep up with her. She was determined to get this capsule of serum to Thomas and Newt in time. Minho was following behind her, feeling the energy run out of his body. Gally and Frypan were close behind him, the gap between the boys and the girl becoming bigger and bigger. As long as she arrived in time, that’s all that mattered. There was an explosion going off close to the group of teenagers making the boys duck behind a car while Brenda just kept on running, maneuvering her body through people.
The next time they caught up with her it was next to a dead body. That body was Minho’s longest friend. No one said a thing as Minho sank to his knees, all energy left in his body leaving instantly, bursting into tears next to Newt’s frame. Fry kneeled by his head while Gally stood in shock next to a crying Brenda. Minho didn’t know how much time has passed before he heard Gally ask where Thomas had gone to.
“I don’t know, he took the gun.” Brenda started to say between sobs. “I thought he was gonna shoot himself, I tried to calm him down but no words came out, I was just so shocked. And then he just... took off.”
“We have to find him and get out of here.” Minho felt a hand on his shoulder. “Minho cmon we have to get back to the berg.” He looked up at Gally, both boys’ eyes displayed nothing but utter devastation over their mutual friend’s death. Minho knew they had to leave, but he couldn’t just leave Newt here. He took a shaky breath before putting his arms softly under the blonde’s neck and legs before carefully lifting the limb body. Every inch of his body was screaming in pain but he stood up on shaky legs and started walking back to the berg, an emotionless look on his tear stained face.
As they reached the stairs he collapsed under the weight of the body and the pain his body was radiating. Gally, who, just like the others, hasn’t said a word since they started their journey back to Vince and Jorge, stepped forward, wanting to help, but Minho just shouted “No!” with a raspy voice and pulled the body closer, pushing himself to his feet with a scream of agony and up the stairs, huffing with every step. Gally, Fry and Brenda walked behind Minho cautiously, to be able to catch the trembling boy’s body incase he would collapse again.
On top of the stairs Gally walked over to Vince and Jorge talking in hushed tones as they all host worried glances over to Minho as he carried the body into the aircraft and gently put it down, closing the eyelids while a tear slipped down his cheek. Brenda stood next to him, gently squeezing his shoulder. Soon enough the airship lifted off the ground and they started their search for the last glader. Minho zoned out, thinking about first meeting Newt in the glade, thinking about the day he found his body in the maze after he tried to kill himself by jumping off the walls of their prison. He noticec his surroundings again when Brenda and Fry where shouting that they had spotted Thomas. Minho scrambled to his feet and to the rear of the berg where he could see Teresa struggling to keep up Thomas’ injured body. Vince reached out, as the buildings around them collapsed and exploded, trying to grab the boy and heave him onto the aircraft but no luck.
“Closer!” Minho heard someone shout just before the building next to the WCKD headquarters collapsed straight into the building Thomas and Teresa were on. Minho locked eyes with Thomas just to see the floor collapse and Thomas fall. Around him everyone was screaming, but he focused purely on his face. Everything seemed to go in slow motion before he heard people scream his name. Then it went black.
A tear slipped past his closed eyes as the reality came back to him. He heard the waves crash on the beach and he felt the cold stone against his skin. They deserved to see this, they were the ones fighting for this after all. When Minho woke up they were already on the ship, on their way to safe haven. Gally told him that bringing Newt would’ve been too much of a risk for another flare outbreak here so they had to leave him behind. Minho sunk to his knees, a raspy sob escaping past his lips. I‘m sorry.

Lost (The Maze Runner: Minho imagine)
A/N: Hey guys. This is my second imagine. There are two writers on this page, me (Nic) and Tina. From now on we’ll write at the top who the author is. If you guys have any requests, let us know.
Author: Nic
Word Count: 1,680
The smell of coffee was overpowering as Y/N entered the small yet extremely busy café. “Hey Y/N! Over here!” Teresa called out to the clearly exhausted girl. Waving in response, she weaved her way through the crowd to the table her friend was sitting at. Teresa stood, embracing her friend. Y/N shrugged off her blazer, draping it over the back of her chair before taking a seat, a yawn sneaking out of her mouth before she could say a word.
“Someone’s tired. Long night at the lab?” Teresa asked. She worked longer hours than anybody and still managed to look flawless. Her skin was a perfect porcelain without a wrinkle or blemish in sight, with her flowing curling locks pinned away from her simple yet beautiful face, ready for the day ahead.
“It was indeed. Janson wants the new workspace ready by the end of the week, but I just don’t think it’s possible. There’s too much equipment at headquarters to bring over. And then I’ve got to find away to transport the infected test subjects without letting them loose on the city. I just don’t think I can do it T.” Y/N ranted, letting out a breath she didn’t know she was holding in.
“Everyone knows there’s a lot of pressure on you right now, but if anyone can do it it’s you. Ava and I were actually wondering if you’d like to come to the HQ today and look at the test patients. Might give you some ideas. She even suggested you could talk out any issues your facing with her. She has a great problem solving mind.” Teresa suggested, showing nothing but kindness and support. “But Y/N tell me honestly, are you still not getting any sleep?”
Any sign on Y/N’s face of excitement regarding her proposal disappeared as she asked that question. Anyone who knew Y/N knew that she hadn’t slept in months, maybe even longer. “T, why would you ask that? You know ever since..… No. Do you know what? I don’t even want to think about it. Not now. I’m already having a stressful week. I’m getting three hours a night, max. But that’s enough”
“No Y/n it’s not! I’m worried about you. We’re worried about you.” Teresa’s eyes showed sympathy, the emotion both the young women despised the most.
“I can’t do this right now Teresa. I don’t have the energy or the attention span so can we please just head to WCKD and get this over with.”
“Of course and if there’s anything you ever need. I’m always here”. And with those words, they both stood, Teresa bringing her coffee as they walked out the still overly crowded store and began heading towards the largest skyscraper in the city.
The walk to the WCKD tower was a short distance from where the coffee shop was located. For most of the duration of the journey, neither of the girls chose to acknowledge the elephant in the room, the giant wall separating them, from the rest of the world, from it.
“How long is that wall really going to work?”
“Indefinitely I suppose.” She was lying. Everyone knew it but no one wanted to argue it. Y/N couldn’t help but think about the people she lost, mostly outside of the giant concrete walls that felt more damaging than protective. Her gaze lingered at the wall before zooming across the landscape before her. Perfectly laid pavement paths, fountains, organized road traffic, orderly commuters, beautiful (mainly glass) buildings. The city was perfect. It made her sick to think about all those outside just wanting to get in and be protected by the damn walls Y/N hated so much. She’d give it all up in a heartbeat to be reunited with her best friend, and she wondered if Teresa felt the same.
The minute they walked through the glass doors, the extensive security measures were blatantly clear. Three rows of different security checks and badge scanners laid before them. “Don’t worry about it, Ava was expecting you.” Teresa’s smile was warm and inviting as they both started to go through security.
After passing the extensive security checks, Y/N followed the brown haired beauty into the elevator. Growing up, Y/N had always been jealous of Teresa’s natural beauty and intelligence and how she seemed to gain the attention of most adults, and later boys. After navigating what felt like a maze of levels and corridors, they arrived at a gigantic door, that towered far above their heads to the ceiling.
A silent knock came from the left as a soft voice called out “Enter” in response. Y/N pushed the door open gently to reveal an older lady, who’s face she recognized so well, dressed in all white. “You must be Y/N. It is pleasure to meet you. Ive heard only good things from Janson and Teresa.”
“Thank you Ava, that means so much. And thank you for agreeing to talk to me. I know you’re extremely busy and the work you do is so important so I really do appreciate it.” Y/N’s smile didn’t falter, keeping up the happy-go-lucky facade so many believe in.
“Of course my dear. I can’t imagine how hard your job has been without being able to see the full extent of what you are having to export.” Ava explains offering Y/N some water, which she accepts, before moving over to the large window wall overlooking the city.
“It has been difficult, but every job has its challenges. I understand that what WCKD do is fundamental to our survival and I didn’t want to interrupt anybody.” No one could deny the view was truly amazing from that height. The way the sun bounced off the glass buildings and echoed through the closed in space created by the concrete barrier, between them and the scorch.
“Well let’s eliminate one of those challenges. Teresa please give Y/N a full access pass so she can see what she is dealing with.” Ava commanded. This was the first sign over the intimidating nature Y/N had heard lied within Ava.
“Fu.. full access? Are you sure?” Teresa stumbled, clearly nervous about Ava’s request.
“Yes Teresa.” Ava gritted her teeth as Teresa gulped. “We have nothing to hide here.”
Y/N was suddenly alarmed by the tense atmosphere in the room. “I will give her a guided tour myself to ensure young Y/N is shown everything she needs to see. You are more than welcome to come alone Teresa, if you’re busy work schedule will allow it?” Both Ava and Y/N turned toward Teresa.
“I’ll clear my schedule if I have to”
“Very good.” Ava’s soft smile she had initially displayed when the two entered the room, once again lit up her ageing face.
**********************
“And this is the trials ward.” Ava gestured to the many separate labs all separated by windows that were made of anything but glass. Test patients were banging on the windows but not even seeming to dent the material. Y/N made note of the extremely sturdy material, wanting to take every precaution available to ensure the infected did not get loose in the streets of the city.
“So 40 infected. How many immunes?” Y/N asks both Ava and Teresa, to busy scribbling away on her notepad to look up at the two women, now wearing pristine white lab coats.
“25.” Teresa said sheepishly. This caused Y/N to look up, moving a stray strand of hair behind her ear to get a better look at Teresa’s expression. It was hard to read. Somewhere between scared and secretive. “And one extremely special case. Subject A5”
“Male or Female?” Y/N fired back quickly.
“Male.” Teresa answered just as quick. Ava removed herself quietly, entering one of the nearby labs to inspect progress.
“How old?”
“17.”
“Powerful?”
“I’d say so.”
“Hm.” Y/N pondered. “I better take a look. If he’s as important as your nervousness suggests, he’s going to need extra preparation and procedures.”
“No Y/N I’m really not sure that’s a good idea.” Teresa exclaimed suddenly. Y/N was confused at Teresa’s sudden outburst. Realizing she wasn’t going to take her to the ‘special immune’, Y/N entered the door she’d saw Ava leave through.
“Ava,” the scientist turned to face Y/N. “Would it be possible for me to see Subject A5?”
“Yes, of course. He needs to be kept under close watch, especially during this move.” Y/N nodded in compliance. “Follow me.” The three women walked in unison, Ava, followed by Y/N, followed by Teresa, down the long corridor of lobs and holding rooms full of immunes until the reached a glass door with an additional security pad.
Ava tapped in a code that neither girl paid much attention to, respecting Ava’s authority. As they entered the next wing of the complex building, the clinical white walls became a navy blue and grey with compliments of white. The atmosphere was calmer than the labs before. There were less people running round, showing the immense pressure of their work on their faces. It was odd. Y/N knew something was wrong.
Ava stopped in front of a steel door and opened it, in what felt to Teresa like, slow motion. The sudden movement of the door caused both young women to jump suddenly, and as Y/N stepped into the light and saw subject A5 for the first time, she felt as though her world was being torn apart and glued together all at once.
She remembered the good memories she had of the two building blanket forts together, spending hours inside watch movies and eating ice creams. She remembered the water fights in the summer and the Hot Chocolate by the fire in the winter. She remembered it all. The laughter. The tears. Their first fight. Their first kiss. Their only kiss.
Y/N turned to Teresa, tears threatening to fall. “Minho?” It was barely a whisper.
A/N: There could be more parts to this if you you would want to read them

The one where Newt is safe || A Maze Runner One Shot
Thomas was sitting at the beach, looking at the rusty boat on which they arrived here in Safe Haven, not that he can remember that, he was fighting to stay alive. The sun warmed sand under his feet felt soft as the sun set slowly but surely only to rise again the next day. Deep in thoughts he didn’t hear his friend approach him.
“You aren’t thinking about it again, are you?” Minho said sitting down next to the other boy. “Vince said no, even Brenda said no and you know she’s usually up for shit like that.”
Thomas sighed, the cold waves softly hitting his toes. “I can’t just leave him there Minho, I can’t-“
“No Thomas, what you can’t do is go back there, risking your life again just to get his body out of there!” Minho exclaimed, frustrated about the fact that Thomas still wasn’t getting it, even after the countless discussions they already had.
Thomas looked down at his hands brushing the sand off his thighs. His friend just sighed displeased and got up, starting to walk away, his feet sinking into the sand with every step.
“He would’ve done it for you.” Thomas whispered, making Minho stop but he wouldn’t turn around to face Thomas. “In fact...” Thomas now rose to his feet too, his voice filled with new found determination “He did. Yeah remember that, Minho?” He spoke, challenging him making Minho turn around and look at Thomas directly, “He risked his life to get you!”
“But I was still alive!”
“We didn’t know that Minho!” Thomas was now shouting, throwing his arms around in frustration. “You could’ve been dead! There was no way of us knowing if you were still alive. And you know who was first in line when it came to rescuing you?! Newt!” Minho tried to say something, but Thomas was furious at this point, and kept on shouting, slowly closing the distance between his friend and himself. “Even when he knew he shouldn’t come, when he knew he should stay with Gally and the serum he came with me to save you, knowing it would most likely mean his own death! And you are just letting him decay there! Inside of WCKD’s walls? He died for you Minho!” Thomas could feel his blood boil. “No! He died because of you!” Thomas spat through gritted teeth. Minho’s face fell. He knew it was the anger that made his friend speak like that, but for the first nights, after they arrived in safe haven, Minho laid awake at night blaming himself for his friend’s death. That was before...
After a few seconds of silence between the boys, he turned on his heel and stomped in the direction of the base of safe haven. Thomas looked after him for a moment before quickly following him, his voice much softer than it was just a minute ago.
“Minho... I didn’t mean what I just said.” But he got no answer. Minho was just walking towards the biggest building in the little village they had already built. “You know it wasn’t your fault... please Minho look at me, I didn’t mean it.” But Minho just keep on walking silently, eyes filled with determination, straight into the building, making Jorge and Vince look up in surprise, with Thomas still on his heels.
“Guys, you can’t just come barging in here li-“
“You have to show him.” Minho interrupted Vince, who’s position instantly went from relaxed to tense.
“Minho...” Jorge said softly trying to calm the situation.
“No. I’m done. Show him. Or I will.” Minho’s eyes never left the adults’ faces.
“What is going on? Showing who? Showing them what?” Thomas asked confused, from where he stood behind Minho, watching the scene, confused as to why it got so tense within seconds.
Vince and Jorge looked at each other defeated before Vince nodded. “Jorge get Brenda, please.” Jorge left without another word and Minho, Thomas and Vince waited in silence. Thoughts racing in his head, making it ache. What was going on? Minho still had his cold stare focused on Vince, who looked at Thomas with a worried expression. After what seemed like an eternity, Jorge reentered the hut closely followed by Brenda, who shot Thomas a worried glance. What was it with all these worried looks he was getting?
“Alright...” Vince’s glance changed to look at Minho questioningly and was met with a nod by the boy. “Let’s Go.” He looked back to Thomas before turning around and leaving the room through the back door, followed by Brenda, Minho and then Thomas, Jorge being the last one to follow the group. They walked to the edge of the village in silence, before a building, Thomas didn’t even know even existed, came into view. They walked up to it and stopped right before it’s door.
Vince looked at Minho once again, who just raised an eyebrow waiting, before nodding at Brenda. Brenda looked at Thomas as she started to tug on a silver chain, that was wrapped around her neck, carefully pulling it over her head and handing it to Vince, Thomas could see a key slipping out from its hiding spot underneath Brenda’s shirt. Vince took the key in his hand and turned to the door unlocking it and stepping in, waiting for everyone to follow.
They stood in a small room, no one saying a word, Thomas, for once, lost of words and questions, because of how confused he was.
“Wait here.” Minho spoke up, after about a minute, before pushing between Brenda and Vince into a room behind yet another door. Thomas looked around the unfamiliar room, the sunset outside painted the straw walls in this hut a nice, soft orange through a small hole in the ceiling. The air smelled awfully clean. It reminded him of the WCKD labs. He hated it.
“What is this place? Who built it? And why?” The three people just looked at each other, each of them hoping the other would answer. “Can someone answer me?! Why is no one talking to m-?” Thomas confusion and fear started to turn into anger as Minho slipped back into the room, making him stop mid sentence.
“Alright.Thomas follow me.” He looked at Thomas and nodded towards the door. Thomas started to walk to the door and Minho noticed Vince make a step forward. Minho blocked his path. “Only Thomas.” He looked Vince dead in the eyes.
“Listen kid-“
“No. You listen. He doesn’t need you in there. Trust me you’re the last person he will want to see after seeing what’s past this door.” He spat, their faces so close, Minhos’s nose was almost touching the elder’s. Jorge put his hand on Vince’s shoulder.
“He’s right Vince, let’s go.” And after a few moments, Vince followed Jorge and Brenda back out the house. Minho turned back to Thomas and the two boys just looked at each other.
“What is going on Minho?” Thomas asked softly and Minho answered by opening the door they were standing in front of.
“I was gonna make a ‘Surprise I’m still alive’ banner for this but apparently you couldn’t bloody wait.” Thomas’ head snapped up and turned towards the familiar voice in disbelief. “Hey, Tommy.”
