Togas fingers look picked and torn, implying Dermatillomania (compulsive skin picking) which is a stress response. There’s 2 knives behind Toga, the knives r the only thing outlined (in the background), foreshadowing who she will become. The eggs are unspecified bird eggs, and a cuckoo egg (a brood parasite), in the next scene, when the eggs are falling, it’s metaphorical of the innocent ppl Toga kills. As the cuckoo pushes eggs out of the nest when it hatches. The cuckoo egg is unhatched as well, symbolizing how Toga is…not so much innocent, but that she can change. While also cuckoos cannot control kicking eggs out of nests, it’s in their nature, and u can’t fault them for it. Similar to how Toga can’t “control” the urge to take blood.

This is less a detail & more a mistake (oops) but the robin is actually slightly (most likely) inaccurate, the reference image I used shows a robin from a specific area, of which Toga prob didn’t live in. The robins she prob would’ve seen have a black band in between the red & gray. It doesn’t matter…like at all but my ornithology heart can’t not mention my…inaccurate *gasp* birds

Huagh I got it done *cheers* (it took kinda long cuz I was studying the only days were I’d be able to draw for a long time. Today I just had more free time so I got lucky), as I was re-reading the dream sequence (for details) I realized WAY too late, the graffiti isn’t mentioned I don’t think. I got it mixed up with the PAINT. and I realized that, AS I WAS DRAWING THE GRAFFITI. and was like “uh oh. I have too much empty space” that was on me😭 y’all I was so out of it while reading that

ACTUALLY THE SAME THING HAPPENED WITH THE LIGHTERS. I thought they were glow sticks till I reread it (which I feel like is some type of metaphor. Like lighters instead of glow sticks? That’s suspicious)

So the bottom bit was meant to be the background, like the ball is coming out of the art, but Tumblr is allergic to joy and whimsy, so when I put down the transparent part, it just came as white. So I’ve included 2 images, 1 for dark mode and 1 for light💔

No speedpaint bc I don’t have CapCut (TikTok ban) to add music, and I don’t think any1 cares to watch like 2-3 minutes of silence

Anyways, I’ve realized i was like, super tired when reading bc how did I think the ball was meant to be Lux😭 she passes it TO Lux, the ball’s Zeri, it’s literally green in text. I’m not too sure how that metaphor works with her passing the ball to others, and eventually to Lux who scores. I feel like it’s foreshadowing, like Jinx will trust Lux with caring for Zeri, or helping with her? Allowing her to be family. Because of the ball being her, she’s getting shielded by Jinx in image.

Also Jinx’s number is ten, bc Jinx in arcane has a lot of Xs, and X in Roman numerals is 10 (like how VI’s tattoo looks like a Roman numeral)

Also the paint is yellow bc it’s like, a combination of Lux and Jinx-Jinx:paint, Lux:yellow(gold) yn?

Also Jinx’s bed has the depths of what appears to be HER. Like her weight in the bed making it sink. Cuz she’s sleeping but she’s not bc she’s playing basketball. (Tho I don’t believe Jinx would sleep so stiffly)

There isn’t as many hidden metaphors in this as the others, as I don’t really know what this is going to mean in the future, or what exactly this shows. This is my fault tbh(reading the chapter when like half my brain was working) but I have this sneaking suspicion that in the future I’m going to go “OHHHHHH SO THATS WHAT. Okay!” When the foreshadow foreshadows.

You know the drill (I’ve done this once b4) I’ll describe the symbolism of the piece.

Song- Poor George, James Supercave

So this was inspired by 2 things, the chapter itself, and my own book, in which 2 chars have a convo that goes kinda like:

“Is that not the meaning of life? To reproduce? Have kids?” “No. Not to me.” “Than what?” “To love.” And more so the concept of what is the meaning of MY life. Which combined with the chapter into “what is the value of YOUR life?” And how Lux, being from the Crownguards, her life is valued more than others. And “how many lives is my comfortability worth?” Which was a question not exactly said, but implied.

Because of this, Lux is being held above water, by people drowning in it, u get the metaphor.

But the way she’s held, looks like running, like she’s running away from this issue, she wants to confront it, but is scared too, and believes nothing will come of it. Which is why she allows herself to be held, why she’s limp in their hands. And SPEAKING of hands, none of the hands touch her face, hips, or chest, because the people are terrified of upsetting her, and they aren’t “good enough.”

The words in the back are in specifically Times New Roman, which is usually used for assignments, and I feel like Silco is a Times New Roman guy. Also he’s referring to her, but her as in Lux? Her as in Luxanna? Or her as in Pascal? But in reality, he’s asking LUX. bc that’s the only one that’s in line (of sorts) with the question.

Pascal is below her feet, as it’s “below” her, she’s a Crownguard, but Pascal is her way to rebel. And Luxanna is above her head (like a crown… tee hee) as it’s a glorified idea of what her parents expect, and made her into.

And to finish my metaphors, my pride and joy: the outfit she’s wearing, she’s wearing King Joseph of the Holy Roman Empire’s outfit. Or at least his outfit on Wikipedia, I’m sure he’s got a million of em. Now, if you don’t know your euro history or just forgot, he tried to be a enlightened monarch, however, he did this with poor care, and a lack of support. So everything feel apart, he took everything back, and reinforced the oppressive regime he tried to deconstruct, and died a failure (in his eyes at least). “Here lies Joseph, who failed in everything he undertook” -a actual quote from him

I chose him specifically, because he is, in a way, Lux, and what Lux believes is inevitable. She thinks that if she attempts to make a change, it will blow up in her face, as she thinks nothing can be done. Which is why she’s in his outfit. (Also in that outfit, he’s wearing his moms war satchel or something along those lines, and she is a Crownguard, which is like knights and stuff, I’d just like to mention that)

I meant to add this above, but tumblr and text and images r weird rn, so. But Luxs palms/pinkie is flexed, as that dark bit is shadows from the muscles being pulled inwards. She’s not happy his with position, wanting to form a fist, but refuses to… which might be the smallest detail I’ve ever put into a piece b4.

There’s some symbolism which I will explain down below, and perchance a rant about how I adore how Lux is written and the idea of freedom that this fic is exploring

ANYWAYS, symbolism time!!

this piece was inspired by Eleanor Rigby, so the “church” Lux is buried in is the lecture room, bc this is Luxs place of sanctuary. Her freedom, though “nobody came” bc she feels so isolated from others, following things she doesn’t particularly like bc she knows she’ll never get that in the future. We see this in the party scene where she wins, but her smile doesn’t reach her eyes. She feels alone.

Than herself, she’s yellow, a color of happiness and freedom and light, like her name itself, but ironically, she is trapped, as is why her dress is so tight. She lays under a spotlight, the same way her family always has its eyes in her. And a incomplete halo of sorts of blood, she is so close to being free, but she can’t nor will be. The blood comes from what I had assumed to be a blunt force trauma injury, but I’m starting to believe it was a contraption and not a injury that left the scar.

Silco is the priest, alone as well, like Lux, he appears to be some sort of parallel (he was what she is) he sees her injury, as is shown with the red eye, and (most likely) sees it in himself(This is a prediction). He is difficult to see, blending into the background as unable to help. As for Lux to be free, she must figure out who will be free first, and allow herself TO be free (see rant).

Than Luxs name is wiped away, and Luxanna written in top. This is because “Lux” is the free version of “Luxanna” and Lux will die if she goes back, as with Pascal, who is also being wiped away. (Pascal would have worked better with the metaphor, however, having a variation of her name being wiped away and her full name ontop works better thematically)

And than Jinx’s signature at the bottom left, a reference to when she drew Lux in the first place. She’s drawing this because, like her father, she is observant (the both of them noticed her scar). Also, this was an accident, but to make a metaphor of it, her name is written like Roman numerals, similar to how VI’s name is. Which could be used as a sorta parallel between Garen and Vi (in some way?? I feel like Vi and Garen are going to be foils or parallels in some capacity)

Anyways, rant time:

The way this fic has handled the idea of freedom is AMAZING. Usually in Lux fics, Lux can’t be free due to external forces, which sometimes have become internal, and to fix the internal, she must fix the external. But here, the external forces are gone, she’s the one who controls her freedom. And despite having freedom, she truly, has none. Because freedom with a end is not freedom.

So to make up for the fact she will no longer have freedom, she does stuff to try to make up for it: for example, the tree fairy costume I don’t remember exactly what it was called (also like drinking and smoking weed). Stuff she knows she won’t be able to do later. But the thing is, she doesn’t like this stuff, in trying to be free, she’s trapped herself. And now she’s trapped in 2 ways, of her attempts to be free, and what’s been instilled inside her.

We see she never truly lets her guard drop (other than 1 time, but that was when she was with Jinx), she always has a set smile for everything, everything is planned out. Just as how she sees her life. Because of this, she can’t let herself be free, because she doesn’t even really know who SHE is. There’s Luxanna, her parents child. There’s Pascal, the free, but her name ISNT Pascal, it’s Lux(Luxanna as well). Pascal is free, but she isn’t really Pascal. She’s Lux, and Lux needs to be free. But who IS Lux?

And WOULDNT YOU KNOW IT?? that’s what Silcos speech WAS ABOUT. It was about how his class with allow his students to find themselves. AUGH ITS SO GOOD. And the fact that Luxs guard WENT DOWN when around Jinx, if just for a second, if just for a accident, and Jinx CAN AND DOES SEE IT. Oh my golly gee I love it when you can see the arc, this is so good,
