remus driving himself insane after regulus’ disappearance because he just can’t accept that he’s really gone. he’s supposed to be comforting his best friend over his brothers supposed death but he can’t even accept he’s not still here.

he spends late nights scouring books and newspapers, spying on the Black manor for days on end, sneaking into his funeral for proof that he’s not in the casket. he even goes as far as begging dumbledore to give him a mission infiltrating the DE for answers.

eventually the search runs dry. regulus black has been wiped off the face of the earth and remus will never see him again.

but then sirius breaks out of azkaban and peter is resurrected from the dead so maybe, just maybe, regulus can come back too.

but then harry finds a note from one R.A.B. and all his hopes implode in an instant. no one can escape their fate from voldemort, not even regulus. for the first time since his lovers’ death, remus finally lets himself mourn.

after remus was bitten by greyback, the lupins moved to an isolated cottage in the south of wales, half an hour from the nearest village, with only a few neighbors. because remus spent his childhood with only his family as company, the thought of going from spending most of his time with his parents to being at school for most of the year almost made him not want to go to hogwarts.

to relieve remus’ anxiety, hope gave him her favorite necklace, a bronze pendant she had gotten from her mother, which lyall charmed so that it always smelled like home.

whenever remus is worried, he just takes the necklace out from under his shirt and brings it up to his nose. he never takes it off, and his parents stay with him whenever he is.

he starts waking up to dead bodies with no memory of killing them
