I love this, I’ve reread it a few times and am blown away each time! Dick Grayson-centric, follows the batfam dealing with dick through different headspace’s over the years, from his removal of Robin to Spyral. It does cover the issues of canonical non-con and abuse, so keep that in mind while reading! There is also MCD in the last chapter but it is not Dick or anyone that’s been Robin

SAVIOUR COMPLEX by Arwriter!!!

I preface all my dc fic recs with the fact that everything I know about DC, the Batfam, and Dick Grayson is from fandom spaces, so I can’t give an accurate rating on the characterisation of the characters!

I love this fic sooo much! The angst of it all with a bit of an unreliable narrator, I like that not everything is wrapped up completely but also ends with a happy ending. I’m not always a huge fan of miscommunication but I think this fic does it really well considering the comic circumstances it follows. I also appreciate how it doesn’t erase bad decisions from the main character, like they acknowledge it was a shitty move and have the other person involved still mad about it without a quick forgiveness.

I haven’t done one of these in a WHILE! But I have found quite a few new fandoms that I love, mainly DC - specifically Dick Grayson 😄

Anyway, for the first Fic Rec back, I present to you:

A ROBIN’S SONG!!!

I love this Fic so much. I’ve reread it so many times! It’s a song Fic, Dick Grayson Centric, addresses traumas he’s faced. ( tw/cw: this will cover mirage/tarantula which is canon non-con, it’s been covered a little in the last chapter but I don’t believe it’s anything too graphic, but just be aware, and there is a little bit of suicidal ideation/tendencies so be aware of that as well)

Only thing I can’t give a major opinion on is if it is out of character as I haven’t read the comics and everything I have learned is from fandom spaces.

Because it is a song Fic, there are so many comments about song suggestions so I went through them all to create a playlist of both the songs already written into the Fic, as well as all the recommendations!

Jason: This is so stupid- my mother used to kick me out when he drug dealer would come over so I didn't see her spending our very small amount of money on drugs.

Jason: nerds.

Cass: I was raised to be a weapon, a murderer. I brought peach rings.

Steph: I'm Steph and My dad was an alcoholic who thought he could go head to head with batman and outdo the riddler. And I brought Reese's pieces.

Tim: I'm Timothy Drake Wayne and I had left the house to try and find some guy before he killed my dad, just for him to kill my dad when I was gone. I brought sour rainbow strips.

Duke: My parents are in a mental ward, high on joker toxin. No one knows if they'll ever get better. And I got m&m's.

Damian: I am a highly trained assassin and-

Steph: cut. Cut. Damian. Civilian identities. Ok. Restart.

Damian: My mother randomly dropped me on some weird man's doorstep when I was ten. I brought rock candy.

I miss being 16. I miss my friends from when I was 16. I’m in a much better place, I’m following a path to reach a place I knew I was going to since I was in primary school. I have grown as a person and I miss who I was and who I never got the chance to be. I was 16 during the pandemic so I missed out on a whole bunch of experiences but the vibes, despite all the negative that was going on, were amazing. TikTok had so many people just being nice and embracing nature and the music was just calm and beautiful and that’s not to say that the current shift is bad, I enjoy a lot of things that have become popular right now. But I watched a movie that just gave me the same joy I had in the pandemic, I listen to the music and remember the friends I had then and the memories we made. I have moved on now, I don’t talk to them anymore, I’ve made friends that are better for me, but the old friends linger in my mind often. What are they doing? How are they doing? Do they still do this? Eat that? Are they still interested in this thing?

The pandemic formed me a lot and I don’t think I’ve ever realised how much. I had a lot more anxiety back then and I’ve managed to adapt and get used it and back into a better mindset but i also remember the trends that shaped a lot people in my life that in turn shaped me.

I miss being 16 when everything was so much easier. I miss being in high school where it was easier, where I didn’t constantly have the thoughts of everyone surpassing me, when I didn’t feel like I was falling behind. I’m 21 in less than 6 months and 18 months away from completing my university degree and yet I still feel so underprepared for what’s coming and I feel like everyone else got the manual for life and University and achieving everything they want and I’m just stuck on a conveyor belt pushing me toward my goals without the necessary knowledge.
