Catia had to move away while she was modeling and working on a humanitarian project long term. She returns, and plans to talk to your muse over dinner to see if the relationship is worth saving. Although, she assumes that your muse is going to break up with her.

Over the course of the last year, Catia steadily saw the change in what she thought was originally a very strong relationship. She wouldn't have agreed to a long distance relationship is she hadn't thought that they could overcome all of the obstacles together. Except, the longer they were apart, the less they spoke to one another. She hated the days of silence, and each time that silence stretched longer, she felt an uncomfortable feeling that things were about to end. This move wasn't supposed to be a permanent one, she'd told him that, it was only until the job was complete, and then she was coming back. Well, now she was back, and this was going to be the first time they saw each other in that year.

Her heart was pounding in her chest as she arrived at his door. Trying to prepare herself for what was sure to be an awkward dinner, she knocked on the door and waited for them to answer. When the door opened, she couldn't help the smile that formed on her face at the sight of him. He still gave her butterflies, even after all this time. "Hey..." she breathed out, "It's so good to finally see you."

good morning dc!! admin maig popping in with an important and (hopefully) quick message regarding beta editor! with the end of the month coming, tumblr is going to start to begin the full transition to beta editor, and coming in may, legacy editor will begin to be officially phased out. we know that the vast majority of you are already making that switch and getting used to the new editor and all of its quirks. but for those who are still using legacy we ask, that starting this week, you begin the transition to beta-- including starting any and all new threads in the beta editor, and we ask that you tag those new starters with "beta editor" or some combination of that to indicate the editor your partner should use! with that, we ask that you keep any threads started in beta editor, in beta editor. please please do not swap anything created in beta back to legacy editor, because while it's easy for you to cut the thread, it creates a headache for your thread partner trying to use trim reblogs. we know change isn't easy, but the admins, and your fellow members are always here to help you out! we have an incredible cheat sheet made by admin ollie that is linked HERE to help spot the differences and know which editor you're using. we appreciate everyone's patience and understanding as we all go through this transition together and please, as always, like this when you've read it, as the admins will be monitoring threads and messaging people to continue using the beta editor, if they keep switching back to legacy. thanks lovebugs ♥

An Introduction to the Beta Editor

Hello all! I’ve gotten some feedback that the tutorials on using the new Beta editor and xKit Rewritten has been confusing a few people, so I wanted to make my own! I’ll try to cover everything below, but if something isn’t clear or you need extra help, let me know please! This post is gonna be pretty long, but I sectioned it up so hopefully you can find what you need with ease.

Step 1. Switching to Beta

You very well may be able to skip this part, because all new blogs are automatically switched to the newer editor. But if you’re still using an older blog, don’t worry, it’s easy! There should be a big purple button in the corner, pretty hard to miss. Should look like this!

Go ahead and hit “Let’s go!” and, well... let’s go!

Step 2. Getting to Know Beta

The Beta editor is very, very different from what we’re all used to. But really, it’s kind of intuitive in a lot of ways. You have to know a lot less shortcuts. Whenever you highlight your text, you’ll see this little guy pop up:

Now, from left to right, here’s what we’re looking at: strikethrough, bold, italics, small text, link in text, and colored text. Most of your keyboard shortcuts should still work (I can’t speak for all computers, but the shortcut for small text no longer works for me with the Beta editor), but we also have handy-dandy buttons now, too! We also have the 'Regular' drop down menu, which opens this:

This one is pretty self explanatory, and it shows what the text will look like if you select that option. 

Step 3. Finer Details

I’m still personally getting used to a lot of the smaller details that come with the Beta editor, but here are some that I’ve learned! Hopefully I’ll be adding to this list when more troubleshooting comes into my realm of knowledge.

Auto-Readmores: For whatever reason, Tumblr has taken to cropping any posts over a certain length by itself? Annoying, but this is something you can toggle on/off in your Dashboard Settings!

Editing Tags: This isn’t something that needs to be fixed, but it was big news to me! Instead of having to delete your tag completely when you’ve made a typo, you can just edit your post and edit the tag! Handy!

Links on Gifs: This isn’t a bad thing, it’s just new, different, and weird. But if you dislike it, there is a way to stop it from happening! It’s just a manual task. When you copy and paste a gif into your reply, you’ll see three little images on it. We’re going to click on the circled one below.

That’ll open up a link box, with a link to your gif. Just backspace that, hit the ‘Done’ button, and boom! No more link at the bottom of your gif!

Step 4. xKit Rewritten

I know what a lot of people’s main concern is: cropping replies. This is how we get to that point. The first step is going to be to download the newest iteration of xKit. You do not have to uninstall your old one to do this, they coexist on purpose! New xKit and xKit Rewritten have different features, so I’ve found it best to have both and utilize all the features! 

xKit rewritten is a Chrome extension, and it can be found at this link! Just follow the instructions on that page to install it. Once it’s all good and installed, it’ll be found next to your other extensions, or by the URL bar on your browser window. Looks like this!

Now you have xKit Rewritten!

Step 5. Cropping Replies

Alright, this is where the money is. Just like with regular xKit, you have to toggle on the setting that allows you to cut replies down. Once you click on that purple X icon, you’ll see a drop down with lots of options. I’ve underlined the one we’re looking for right now, "Trim Reblogs."

Once you toggle that little switch on, you can go ahead and start replying. If you’re replying to a starter, then there is no need to worry about this feature. You have nothing to crop, so don’t worry! But if you’re replying to an active thread, here’s what you’re gonna do. Type out your reply, format it however you want, and then draft it. Then we’re gonna go into our drafts.

Here’s my thread with three tiers to it! The standard is two replies per post, and that’s what a lot of people like to stick to. So let’s make that happen! If you’ll notice at the bottom of that draft, there’s a scissor icon. I drew an arrow to it in the photo above. We’re gonna click on that.

And that icon brings this up! You’ll see it says “Select trail items to remove,” and it shows the trails separately. “Trails” are each individual reblog, and of course, we only want two of those, not three. This is really easy to fix! We’re just gonna select that top “trail,” aka the first reply in the thread, and hit the “Trim!” button.

And once we’ve done that, the first “trail” is gone! You just have the two more recent replies on the post, and you’re good to reblog it!

The one caveat of this is that you can no longer edit parts of other people’s replies, so you can’t format the posts to your heart’s content like we’re used to. A downside for sure, but so far, this isn’t something there’s a fix for. Hopefully in the future, xKit will figure that out for us!

Step 6. That’s All!

Once you have all that down, you’re a master of the Beta editor and a master of xKit Rewritten! Tumblr staff has mentioned phasing out the Legacy editor all together in the future, so it appears this will be our new reality. It is worth it to mention that the Beta editor is still, well, in beta, so it is subject to change. If it does and we get even more features or work-arounds, I’ll be sure to come back and edit this post! Until then, if you have any questions, please let me know! I am here to help!

Question is the legacy editor any good? I've never used it because I'm paranoid about it messing my posts up lmao but I'm curious

The short answer is yes. Legacy editor, the older way tumblr did posting, is in my opinion, the superior editor. I love the legacy editor. A lot. It is definitely superior and I'm sad staff has decided to slowly get rid of it.

However! With that said I've been pretty much exclusively using the beta post editor for the last like year when staff announced that they'd be eliminating the legacy editor eventually so I thought it'd be a good idea to get used to the beta editor. Which I suppose I did. I've gotten used to it and don't use legacy much at all anymore. I also wanted to use it because I got really tired of not being able to edit in mobile the posts I made on web using the legacy editor. With the beta editor you can edit across platforms which is soooo nice. (although it appears that in one of the apps many updates I can now edit a gifset I made today via legacy editor but not the posts I've made in the past using the legacy editor so who knows what's going with that).

But there's a lot of annoying things about the new beta editor that make it inferior to the legacy editor and I'm praying that staff will improve it. For starters, and probably my biggest complaint, is how awful it is to upload and rearrange images. It's so much easier in legacy editor to move images around. In beta the page moves when you start to move the image and it drives me CRAZY!!! I always end up putting the image in the wrong place because the page won't stop moving! Legacy is wonderful to arrange images. I do think the upload is slightly better in beta purely because it uploads multiple images in the order I select them where the legacy just puts them in whatever order it wants to and I have to remember what order I wanted my gifs in.

Legacy is also better because it actually differentiates between an image post and a text post. With the beta editor everything is technically a test post. So my gifsets are not considered an "image post". Some people have noted that the beta, since it's not an image post, it resizes the images a little and sometimes decreases the quality of the gif by doing that. I haven't really noticed that myself with my own gifs but doesn't mean it isnt happening.

The legacy editor also allows me to upload my gifs without stupid errors for no reason. Lately any time I upload more than 6 gifs at once I get an error message and have to upload them one by one. Its not because of size because they're always under 7mbs so I don't know why I can't upload them all at once. I hate it actually. And sometimes my gif will be under 10mbs (like 9.7mbs) and it'll tell me that the gif is too big. Excuse me tumblr but 9.7 is smaller than 10! I never had this problem in legacy.

The legacy editor is also better when it comes to using html, inserting links as text and not the stupid thing beta does where you paste the link and it becomes that stupid post preview thing that I hate, and oh my god is it awful for text blocks! When it first came out you couldnt select multiple texts blocks at all. You can now but it isn't the easiest. And it like expands when you do and makes it weird. Idk it's hard to describe. In legacy you can just...select all the text with no problems. Text blocks are treated like individual sections in the beta and make editing a major pain in the ass.

I also don't like thst apparently new xkit won't work in beta and you have to use xkit rewritten because fuck I don't want to learn how to use that one when I've been using new xkit for years but I guess I'm gonna have to now. I haven't been having any problems with xkit yet but who knows....

So yeah I think overall legacy is better. Beta Post Editor has some good things (I like the increased image upload limit, the editing tags is good) about it but there's so many problems. Unfortunately we're stuck with it so I've been sticking to using it exclusively to make the transition easier on myself. I do suggest becoming used to how it works and to just continue to provide feedback to staff about features we dislike or bugs we come across. Hopefully they'll listen and improve it.

Hi Jeanette! There may be an workaround with the switchover from legacy to the new editor for Trim Reblogs that should still work (I haven't tested it as I've been using the new editor for months now) that you could test.

So what matters to Trim Reblogs is the root post of the thread, i.e. the initial post of that thread. So let's say a thread is 20 replies--you want to go back to the starter for that thread. Let's assume, for ease, that Partner A was the one who started it, Partner B replied to it. This would then be Partner A's first post that we are looking for.

Previously, Trim Reblogs just didn't work on legacy posts at all until a recent update to it. A way that I found to go around this was by finding the first post of the thread and editing it using the MOBILE APP EDITOR. Not the browser, the Tumblr mobile app for Android/iOs (in my case, it was iOS). By editing it and changing something small--bolding or italicizing a word was my go-to, you could even just bold or italicize a period or something--it sort of "forced" it back to the NPF style post, and then it would be recognized by Trim Reblogs as the new post format (NPF).

It's something I would test & see if it works to possibly get around some of the issues that happen when you're trying to convert old legacy threads to the new editor & Trim Reblogs just continually glitches out (it happens sometimes).

Also, something to note: unlike with the old xKit, you do not have to have your draft written before you save the post in drafts. You can save it as a draft with nothing in it, cut it, and then work on your post with no issues. It won't randomly post your drafts like the old Editable Reblogs did. (Posting drafts is why I got rid of Editable Reblogs myself, because it was just a no-go for me given how often I switch between drafts).

Thank you so much for your guide! I'm glad to see people switching over to the new editor finally, as it's been... a struggle to deal with not being able to cut posts for months now when I got annoyed with Editable Reblogs.

Thanks for the info! That trick of editing the starter post to switch it to NPF is really helpful for people who don't want to go through all the trouble of moving a thread to a brand new post -- I'll edit my couple of posts to include that. I did edit last night to add that you don't need to have your reply written before using Trim Reblogs anymore. I know that was the case before, but now it seems you can trim at any point, like you said.

About the randomly posting drafts issue -- if that is the same problem I've experienced, you can get around that by switching the save to drafts button to anything else, then back. I wasn't aware of this being an issue with legacy/editable reblogs, though it wouldn't surprise me, and I'm not sure if you'll still have the problem on beta. But I've just made it a habit to switch the button before saving to drafts if I know something isn't ready to post yet.

ADDITIONAL SUGGESTIONS FOR THOSE USING BETA TEXT EDITOR

so a little over a week ago ( and before my OG source blog go terminated ), i made a post giving some suggestions on what to do if you're stuck using BTE. the only problem with this not everybody has the time to read all of the mutuals' rules all day, everyday. this is why it's beneficial to make posts every now and again, "hey. i've updated my rules. pls read them i'd greatly appreciate it." and then go on your merry way. however! there are a couple of other ways i think everyone should go about this to make things easier:

continue to put in your rules that you're permanently using BTE + XKIT REWRITTEN. this lets all of your new followers know that they need to use BTE with you.

state in your starters for people that you're stuck using BTE + XKIT REWRITTEN. this is super useful because it lets them know right then and there that you need them to reply via BTE. and you'll be able to tell if they read the tags or not based on their reply and if they post anything ooc in the tags.

make all of your initial starters / asks / etc. via BTE. this actually saves a lot of time for literally everyone because those who use LTE will still be able to edit it just fine and those stuck in BTE won't have to worry about it hardcore glitching.

when making your first reply to a starter or whatever, let said RP partner know you're stuck in BTE. especially if you hadn't roleplayed with them yet. this lets them know that they'll have to use BTE when roleplaying with you.

this one might be a bit tedious but open up a word document and jot down who is and isn't stuck using BTE. i know this isn't exactly what anyone wants to hear but it's there and it works. it's really no different than saving your tags into it!

and last ... but not least ... permanently switch to BTE. i know, i know. this suggestions sucks. but i honestly think this is one of those cases where "better late than never" doesn't work because at least you're getting an understanding on how it works before it's permanently integrated on the website for everyone. so ... in other words ... "the sooner the better".

the reason i bring up the last bullet point is because anyone who has made a brand new blog on or after november 26, 2022 is permanently stuck using BTE. so that's definitely something to keep in mind if / when you decide to make a whole new blog anytime soon ( if ever from here on out ).

The sun was setting outside of the window of the suite that he had gotten. Benicio looked at the changing light before checking his watch with a sigh. Hours had passed since he'd sent the hotel and room information without any indication of whether the information had been received. At this point, Beni wasn't even sure if they would show up. Heaving a sigh, he returned to reading the book he had brought with him. It was better than the work he'd also lugged with him. Everything had been silent when the sound of the door opening finally drew his attention. Turning his head to look in that direction, he saw a familiar face, a slow smirk tugging at the corner of his lips.

❄️ BETA EDITOR & XKIT REWRITTEN

Morning, Merrockites! As we mentioned in this mod post, today is the day we are asking anyone who has not already made the switch over to beta editor and xkit rewritten to do so.

To switch to beta editor, simply toggle it on in the upper right hand corner when you open the "new post" window. xKit rewritten can be downloaded through the Google Chrome store. To trim posts, you will need to have the "trim reblogs" extension enabled. A drafted or posted reply will have a pair of scissors at the bottom that you click on to trim out unwanted replies on a thread.

There is a post here that explains a lot of things in detail, but if you need help or want to talk to someone you know, please do not hesitate to shoot me a message either here, or over on my character account, as I will not hesitate in return to hop online and help you out as soon as I can. I can promise you that while it seems like a big change, most of us have actually come to like it and find it easier.

Any outstanding threads created in the legacy editor should be started over in beta editor (the best method I've found is linking to the reply, typing yours out, and tagging the character). If you created a starter in legacy, please start new threads for the replies you have, even if others reply in beta (beta and legacy just cannot get along).

To answer in the inevitable "but what if I don't want to use Beta, and continue to use Legacy?" question... we can't force you to switch, and we won't ask you to leave. But we also cannot dedicate more time to learning the workarounds or exhausting our options, nor will we expect those using Beta to. Tumblr has two editors: legacy and beta. New blogs that are being created do not have the option to use legacy, whereas all blogs (old and new!) have the option to opt into beta, which to us says that it's the right choice. We want to continue to be accessible, accommodating and inclusive for all writers.

Please continue to be patient with one another and understand that mistakes are going to be made, and hey, that's okay! And mostly, thank you guys for being so cool. It's nerve wracking to implement any sort of change as an admin, but when you have players as understanding and awesome as you guys, you truly make this easier, and I'm beyond appreciative.

➤ Ships will be based on chemistry, and are possible here. Though given the nature of the muse, it may be a very long game, or a difficult thing to initiate. Discussion for pre-established relationships of any sort are super welcome and encouraged.

➤ I love continuing ask memes as threads and I definitely encourage you to do so if you’d like to (though it’s not necessary!) as it’s a great way to break the ice and start something in general. Backstory:

(Prologue.**)

A traveling exorcist, of sorts. He was once a well-respected advisor to his monarch in a kingdom once known as Amaran. But that was before The Blackening... The evil that scorched the very brick and earth itself, tainting the soil permanently and taking the lives of all in the kingdom walls unfortunate enough to be trapped within, leaving nary a trace of what once was, save for an unmistakable aura of some since-passed, lingering darkness of what occurred in that unfortunate land. No one knows who he is for he wears a mask and never reveals his truth... His truth? He caused it. He was the villain that took the lives of his entire, beloved kingdom. All in the name of what was for the best... for the greater good of the kingdom. In the name of prevention of invading forces, in the name of paranoia and fear - well placed, but unnecessary and unwanted. He went against his kings wishes, arrogant enough to think he knew better, and he continued to dabble in magic of the hells and darkness, muddying his own soul in the process. The ritual he conducted in a desperate attempt to gain the upper hand to the rivaling kingdom succeeded, but then... failed. The spell splintered, fractured and became corrupted and in the end... he wound up conjuring forces beyond his control, but because of the twisting of the dark magic, it instead took the souls of all within the kingdom's walls, sapped the life of all plants, people, animals, everything until it was naught but husks and dust and blackness, and his soul became entwined with the very being he sought to control and send to destroy his enemies. His human soul became warped, tainted, and broken in irreparable ways... and now he, the sole survivor and misguided villain of his story, wanders far from what he has done in search of some kind of purpose beyond his unforgivable deeds. The melding of his mortal spirit with the essence of that great demon he sought to summon caused catastrophic damage, and now he must live with it, unable to die by conventional means, and too afraid of what he will turn into if the power he holds on a taut leash becomes untethered from his corporeal body. In short? He is, again, a traveling exorcist now, with those extraordinary otherworldly powers, a monster hunter at times, and a vagrant... The Vagrant. He does not go by his own name and has abandoned all that he once was - unable to face his own truth, let alone the judgement of others. He hides himself in plain sight, nothing but a lone wanderer with a stoic, bitter attitude that never stays in one place too long.

After dark in the middle of the week was evidently the deadest of times. The little occult bookshop had not seen a single customer in over an hour, not even a confused tourist barging in to ask for the way to the station. So Nick, shopkeeper by trade, took to the more boring tasks of his work life, unboxing and pricing new books and arcane trinkets.

He'd been at it for a while when the loud and prominent creaking of the shop's door made him stop in his tracks. He didn't need to look up to know the other was a wolf and immediately - reflexively - the grip around the boxcutter in his hand tightened; though eventually his pacifism prevailed and he put it down.

"Hello. Can I help you?" With great effort he managed to sound calm and collected. "New stock's not yet on the shelves I'm afraid."
