"You scared it away!" You yell at him, walking into the clearing and just plop yourself down in the snow. The crunching of newly laid snow fills the silence. She and Aemond had been betrothed the previous evening, when her grandfather, Viserys, announced to the whole family that they were to be married.

“Visenyra!” her mother shouted. Rhaenyra was sitting next to Daemon, her husband. Visenyra had been born after her brother Jace and before her brother Luke, and even though her brothers were Velaryons and had the dark haired features of Harwin Strong, she knew with her beautiful silvery locks, bright purple eyes and pale, pale, like translucent pale, like veins visible pale, like milk, like straight up freshly fallen snow, like that’s how white she was, skin.

She flew the dragon over King’s Landing, screaming into the air because she was so angry. “Dracarys!” she screamed and blew up the Sept because Alicent liked the Sept and she hated Alicent. 

The poor people scum didn’t hate her though because then she went to an orphanage and read them some books. They all told her how much they hate Alicent and how they wanted Visenyra to be Queen. She smiled because she knew she’d be a great queen, way better than Aegon would be because all Aegon did was get drunk and go to brothels and watch children in fighting pits. Freak. Chapter 9: Flos

The last year of high school had begun, the snow was still melting, and the first days of spring were on the way. My hair had grown a little more, and I was sitting at the vanity in my room, already having taken a shower and now attempting to do my makeup. I applied a blush with shimmer particles, did a thin brown eyeliner, applied mascara, and a pink gloss. I made some thin braids in my hair and arranged my bangs to be straight. Black polka-dot stockings, black shoes, and a burgundy long-sleeved dress seemed good for the first day of school. I went downstairs in search of a cup of coffee. Rosa was sitting on the couch all in black and impeccable as always, I gave her a little kiss on her cheek and headed to the kitchen. Esme had already prepared my favorite drink, I smiled and happily took the cup, sitting on the counter and enjoying the hot liquid.

___You look very beautiful - she complimented me, and I thanked her - Excited? - I agreed with her and we continued talking about the classes that were starting today. Alice arrived and was dressed like a fairy, a lilac floral dress, a beige cardigan, and lilac ballet flats as well. She had cut her hair last week, so she put on butterfly earrings to add a little extra highlight. She looked really cute.

Gradually, everyone came downstairs to grab a drink before leaving. Edward was wearing black pants and a gray long-sleeved shirt. He put his hand on the small of my back and called me to go. I hopped off the counter and went with him. The journey was quick and filled with calm music.

We arrived and went to get our schedules with the others. I would have most of my classes with Edward, which was good. I would have arts with Alice and physical education with Emmett, an excellent schedule in my view. My first class was literature, and today's theme was contemporary literature. I paid attention to everything and made my notes as usual. I looked at Edward, and he seemed to be lost in thought. I wrote on a piece of paper and passed it to him.

"What are you thinking about?"

"The teacher's voice would make a great lullaby."

He handed me back the paper, and I smiled. The class ended 15 minutes later.

___ She was about to work a miracle, putting a vampire to sleep - he joked as we left the room. Now it was biology class. Then applied mathematics. The rest of the day went by quickly; it was a good first day of school. We were already in the car - Do you want to do something?- he asked me.

___ I was thinking of putting fairy lights in my room and maybe buying artificial flowers for decoration. Can we go to Port Angeles? - I suggested, and he readily agreed. I bought everything I needed and we strolled around the city for a bit.

I saw boots on sale over there; I need a new pair - I ran, as humanly as possible, to the store and left him standing near a fountain. I ended up buying two new pairs of boots and two different-colored overcoats, a pale pink one and a baby blue one. When I returned to the square and went to the fountain, Edward wasn't there anymore. I looked around, but nothing. Before I could go back to the car, he appeared in front of me, holding a beautiful bouquet of delicate, light pink flowers - Aster flowers.

___ They're called Asters, it means 'star' in Greek, like your name - he explained. I looked at him, puzzled.

___ Thank you, they're beautiful - I was truly grateful; it was the first time I had received flowers from someone - Can I ask the reason? - I looked at him curiously.

___ Well, I saw the florist and thought it would be a good idea - he simply replied and headed towards the car. I walked behind him with my bags and flowers in hand. We arrived home a few hours later. I happily went upstairs with my things and looked for a vase to put the fresh flowers in. After storing my new shoes and coats, I took out the fairy lights and started hanging them up.

___ Wow, those flowers are beautiful! Where did you get them?- Alice entered my room as I was on a chair putting up the lights.

___ Edward bought them for me in Port Angeles. They're Asters, he said it means 'star' in Greek, just like my name. Isn't that sweet? - I exclaimed. Alice agreed and helped me hang the little lights. My delicate cherry blossom wallpaper perfectly matched with the addition of the fairy lights and the natural touch of the flowers. I took a picture of them with my Polaroid and put it on the photo board I made on one smooth wall of the room.

Spring had arrived, bringing flowers and sweet scents with it. The weather wasn't as rainy, although it remained cloudy. Today, after class, we went straight home. Edward and I teamed up to do a literature assignment. In fact, it was quite easy; he dictated, and I wrote. I was sitting in the middle of the bed, surrounded by books, pens, and papers, while he sat on my fluffy pink rug, looking around. His eyes landed on the vase with the flowers he had given me; they were already wilting. We finished the assignment in an hour and then watched a movie. Finally, it was Saturday, and I could laze around in bed until late with a sappy romance novel. As the couple was about to share their first kiss, I squealed and continued reading. A few hours later, I heard a knock on the door. Edward entered with a bouquet of lilies, white and pink. It was bigger than the last one. I jumped off the bed and went to him; he handed me the beautiful bouquet.

___ I noticed the last one was wilting, so I thought it would be best to gift you another - he put his hands in his trouser pockets - Your name comes from the Greek 'leírion,' which means 'beauty,'" I smiled from ear to ear.

___ Thank you very much, but you didn't have to go through the trouble.

___ It wasn't any trouble, since you enjoy decorating your room with flowers, I'll bring new ones as soon as the old ones fade away - he explained gently. I jumped into his arms and hugged him.

It practically became a routine; every time the flowers wilted, Edward brought me a new bouquet and always explained the meaning of their name. On any given Sunday, he called me to go hunting together. As always, the hunt was thoroughly enjoyed, but the dress I was wearing ended up tearing a bit. The day was sunny, so I took the opportunity to feel the warmth on my skin. I found the way my skin shimmered quite enchanting.

___ I want to show you something - Edward led the way through a path among the trees. We walked for a few minutes while chatting. I told him that I recently started listening to a new band, actually several, but I particularly liked a song called "Sparks" by Coldplay. Excitedly, I took my phone out of my pocket and played the song. Then, we arrived at a clearing full of flowers in all colors. I looked at Edward in amazement and walked into the field. The music played in the background, and I felt like a princess in such a beautiful setting. There were butterflies everywhere, and wildflowers dotted the landscape.

This excerpt of the song was playing when I turned to look at him, the sun was shining on his skin, which was glowing, and just like in the song lyrics, I saw sparks. I smiled and lay down on the grass full of flowers, to hide the feelings that were bubbling up inside me and starting to overflow. I could be misinterpreting everything, I sighed, and the music ended. Edward lay down beside me, and we stayed in silence. "Afterglow" by Taylor Swift started playing. I looked at him, and he was already looking at me. He turned and picked up a small flower, placing it behind my ear.

___You match the flowers - I smiled. I repeated his gesture and put some flowers in his golden brown hair, and he laughed. I got up and took a picture of him lying in the middle of the flowers with flowers even in his hair. It was perfect, the sunlight making his skin shine. I looked at the photo for a few more minutes, and Edward got up and put another flower behind my ear - Let's take one together now - I leaned against him and took a selfie; we both sparkled, with flowers in our hair, it was the perfect photo.

29. JUST IN TIME

ALICE! ALICE! WHERE THE HELL WAS ALICE?!

"Alice!" other voices murmured.

"Alice," Aro breathed.

I didn't know what to expect. I was relieved yet angry at Alice. Relieved because she came back. Angry because she was gone for a while and decided to come back now.

And then I heard them running through the forest, flying, closing the distance as quickly as they could with no slowing effort at silence. Both sides were motionless in expectation. The Volturi witnesses scowled in fresh confusion.

Then Alice danced into the clearing from the southwest and Jasper was only inches behind her, his sharp eyes fierce. Close after them ran three strangers; the first was a tall, muscular female with wild dark hair—I learnt she is Kachiri. She had the same elongated limbs and features as the other Amazons, even more, pronounced in her case.

The next was a small olive-toned female vampire with a long braid of black hair bobbing against her back. Her deep burgundy eyes flitted nervously around the confrontation before her.

And the last was a young man, not quite as fast nor quite as fluid in his run. His skin was an impossibly rich, dark brown. His wary eyes flashed across the gathering, and they were the colour of warm teak. His hair was black and braided, like the woman's, though not as long. He was beautiful. As he neared us, a new sound sent shock waves through the watching crowd—the sound of another heartbeat accelerated with exertion.

Alice leapt lightly over the edges of the dissipating mist that lapped at my shield and came to a sinuous stop at Edward's side. Bella reached out to touch her arm, and so did Edward, Esme, and Carlisle. There wasn't time for any other welcome. Jasper and the others followed her through the shield.

All the guards watched, speculation in their eyes, as the latecomers crossed the invisible border without difficulty. Felix and the others like him focused their suddenly hopeful eyes on Bella. They had not been sure of what her shield repelled, but it was clear now that it would not stop a physical attack.

As soon as Aro gave the order, the blitz would ensue, me the only object. I wondered how many Zafrina would be able to blind, and how much that would slow them. Long enough for Kate and Vladimir to take Jane and Alec out of the equation? That was all I could ask for.

Edward, despite his absorption in the coup he was directing, stiffened furiously in response to their thoughts. He controlled himself and spoke to Aro again.

"Alice has been searching for her witnesses these last weeks," he said to the ancient. "And she does not come back empty-handed. Alice, why don't you introduce the witnesses you've brought?"

Caius snarled. "The time for witnesses is past! Cast your vote, Aro!"

Aro raised one finger to silence his brother, his eyes glued to Alice's face.

Alice stepped forward lightly and introduced the strangers. "This is Huilen and her nephew, Nahuel."

Caius's eyes tightened as Alice named the relationship between the newcomers. The Volturi witnesses hissed amongst themselves. The vampire world was changing, and everyone could feel it.

"Speak, Huilen," Aro commanded. "Give us the witness you were brought to bear."

The slight woman looked at Alice nervously. Alice nodded in encouragement, and Kachiri put her long hand on the little vampire's shoulder.

"I am Huilen," the woman announced in clear but strangely accented English. "A century and a half ago, I lived with my people, the Mapuche. My sister was Pire. Our parents named her after the snow on the mountains because of her fair skin. And she was very beautiful—too beautiful. She came to me one day in secret and told me of the angel that found her in the woods, that visited her by night. I warned her." Huilen shook her head mournfully. "As if the bruises on her skin were not warning enough. I knew it was the Libishomen of our legends, but she would not listen. She was bewitched.

"She told me when she was sure her dark angel's child was growing inside her. I didn't try to discourage her from her plan to run away—I knew even our father and mother would agree that the child must be destroyed, Pire with it. I went with her into the deepest parts of the forest. She searched for her demon angel but found nothing. I cared for her and hunted for her when her strength failed. She ate the animals raw, drinking their blood. I needed no more confirmation of what she carried in her womb. I hoped to save her life before I killed the monster.

"But she loved the child inside her. She called him Nahuel, after the jungle cat, when he grew strong and broke her bones—and loved him still.

"I could not save her. The child ripped his way free of her, and she died quickly, begging all the while that I would care for her Nahuel. Her dying wish—and I agreed.

"He bit me, though, when I tried to lift him from her body. I crawled away into the jungle to die. I didn't get far—the pain was too much. But he found me; the newborn child struggled through the underbrush to my side and waited for me. When the pain ended, he was curled against my side, sleeping.

"I cared for him until he was able to hunt for himself. We hunted the villages around our forest, staying to ourselves. We have never come so far from our home, but Nahuel wished to see the child here."

Huilen bowed her head when she was finished and moved back so she was partially hidden behind Kachiri. Aro's lips were pursed. He stared at the dark-skinned youth.

"Nahuel, you are one hundred and fifty years old?" he questioned.

"Give or take a decade," he answered in a clear, beautifully warm voice. His accent was barely noticeable. "We don't keep track."

"And you reached maturity at what age?"

"About seven years after my birth, more or less, I was full grown."

"You have not changed since then?"

Nahuel shrugged. "Not that I've noticed."

I took a glance at Renesmee. I couldn't believe what I heard. I was just glad she isn't alone in the world.

"And your diet?" Aro pressed, seeming interested in spite of himself.

"Mostly blood, but some human food, too. I can survive on either."

"You were able to create an immortal?" As Aro gestured to Huilen, his voice was abruptly intense.

"Yes, but none of the rest can."

A shocked murmur ran through all three groups.

Aro's eyebrows shot up. "The rest?"

"My sisters." Nahuel shrugged again.

Aro stared wildly for a moment before composing his face.

"Perhaps you would tell us the rest of your story, for there seems to be more."

Nahuel frowned.

"My father came looking for me a few years after my mother's death." His handsome face distorted slightly. "He was pleased to find me." Nahuel's tone suggested the feeling was not mutual. "He had two daughters, but no sons. He expected me to join him, as my sisters had.

"He was surprised I was not alone. My sisters are not venomous, but whether that's due to gender or a random chance... who knows? I already had my family with Huilen, and I was not interested"—he twisted the word—" in making a change. I see him from time to time. I have a new sister; she reached maturity about ten years back."

"Your father's name?" Caius asked through gritted teeth.

"Joham," Nahuel answered. "He considers himself a scientist. He thinks he's creating a new super-race." He did not attempt to disguise the disgust in his tone.

Caius looked at me. "Your daughter, is she venomous?" he demanded harshly.

"No," Bella responded. Nahuel's head snapped up at Aro's question, and his teak eyes turned to bore into her face.

Caius looked to Aro for confirmation, but Aro was absorbed in his thoughts.

He pursed his lips and stared at Carlisle, and then Edward, and at last his eyes rested on me.

Caius growled. "We take care of the aberration here, and then follow it south," he urged Aro.

Aro stared into my eyes for a long, tense moment. I had no idea what he was searching for, or what he found, but after he had measured me for that moment, something in his face changed, a faint shift in the set of his mouth and eyes, and I knew that Aro had made his decision.

"Brother," he said softly to Caius. "There appears to be no danger. This is an unusual development, but I see no threat. These half-vampire children are much like us, it appears."

"Is that your vote?" Caius demanded.

"It is."

Caius scowled. "And this Joham? This immortal so fond of experimentation?"

"Perhaps we should speak with him," Aro agreed.

"Stop Joham if you will," Nahuel said flatly. "But leave my sisters be. They are innocent."

Aro nodded, his expression solemn. And then he turned back to his guard with a warm smile.

"Dear ones," he called. "We do not fight today."

The guard nodded in unison and straightened out of their ready positions. The mist dissipated swiftly as Aro turned back to us. His face was as benign as ever, but unlike before, I sensed a strange blankness behind the façade. As if his scheming was over. Caius was clearly incensed, but his rage was turned inward now; he was resigned. Marcus looked bored; there was no other word for it. The guard was impassive and disciplined again; there were no individuals among them, just the whole. They were in formation, ready to depart. The Volturi witnesses were still wary; one after another, they departed, scattering into the woods. As their numbers dwindled, the remaining sped up. Soon they were all gone.

Aro held his hands out to us, almost apologetic. Behind him, the larger part of the guard, along with Caius, Marcus, and the silent, mysterious wives, were already drifting quickly away, their formation precise once again. Only the three that seemed to be his guardians lingered with him.

"I'm so glad this could be resolved without violence," he said sweetly. "My friend, Carlisle—how pleased I am to call you friend again! I hope there are no hard feelings. I know you understand the strict burden that our duty places on our shoulders."

"Leave in peace, Aro," Carlisle said stiffly. "Please remember that we still have our anonymity to protect here, and keep your guard from hunting in this region."

"Of course, Carlisle," Aro assured him. "I am sorry to earn your disapproval, my dear friend. Perhaps, in time, you will forgive me."

"Perhaps, in time, if you prove a friend to us again."

Aro bowed his head, the picture of remorse, and drifted backwards. But then he eyed Alice, Bella and me, his mouth curved upward. "Such a prize," he whispered before he turned around.

We watched in silence as the last four Volturi disappeared into the trees.

It was very quiet.

"Is it really over?" Bella whispered to Edward.

His smile was huge. "Yes. They've given up. Like all bullies, they're cowards underneath the swagger." He chuckled.

Alice laughed with him. "Seriously, people. They're not coming back. Everybody can relax now."

There was another beat of silence.

"Now we have them on the run," Vladimir declared, marching. "Now it's the time to attack."

"Not today," Dad replied and hugged Mum.

Stefan bared his teeth. "You're all fools!" He roared at us. "The Volturi might be gone, but they will never forgive for what happened here."

Silence resumed once more.

And then it hit.

Cheers erupted.

Deafening howls filled the clearing.

Maggie pounded Siobhan on the back. Rosalie and Emmett kissed again—longer and more ardently than before. Joseph picked Rhona up from the ground and spun her around; Rhona wrapped her arms around his neck. Simon, Alana and Ethan embraced in a hug and Leah rubbed her head against Ethan's face.

Benjamin and Tia were locked in each other's arms, as were Carmen and Eleazar. Esme held Alice and Jasper in a tight embrace. Carlisle was warmly thanking the South American newcomers who had saved us all. Kachiri stood very close to Zafrina and Senna, their fingertips interlocked. Garrett picked Kate up off the ground and swung her around in a circle.

Stefan spits on the snow. Vladimir ground his teeth together with a sour expression. And soon, they ran into the woods. I stared at the trees, my fingers wrapping around my necklace and pressing it hard against my chest. Seth walked up to me, his paw prints fresh in the snow. I looked down at his eyes and he yelped.

"I know," I said. "Ayla will be safe now."

Seth nodded and then I gave him a hug, my arms around his thick furry neck. He purred and rubbed his nose on my sleeves. Once I let go, he ran with Leah along with the pack. I turned my head to see Dad with his open arms to me. I smiled widely and I raced to him. Once I hugged him, the whole family joined in.

Hi! BEHOLD! HERE THEY ARE!

I actually feel very good that I drew them. Now I have a clear image. These 12 lords are part of a union, something like the EU. They all have their own kingdoms but also are subjects to the one and only king who, to be honest, they don't like him. This is not because he's a bad king but because he seems immature (he's short and looks like a teen).

Between them, it's supposed to be harmony and collaboration, which is most of the time but some of these people are power-hungry and very selfish.

Here's a bit about each of them:

Ophyntan(dragon)- respected and loved by everyone; a tall lady and very strong

Kiyoko(kitsune)- is sort of a loner; people think that she and Ophy are dating secretly

Felicia(fairy)- the nicest fairy of them all; has a very high-pitched voice that could break glass

Marlevaur(elf)- a soft man, but very strong nevertheless and has very nice moves; gay?

Athenna(mermaid)- cool and lively; rarely leaves the sea and spends most of the time looking for corals.

Vlad(vampire)- the so-called "daughter killer", has a strange museum in his mansion and a superiority complex

Lauren(centaur)- hates intruders and won't hesitate to kill; the forest is a sacred place for her

Estelle (witch)- so-called "the scarlet witch", people thought she was dead but she's not... ?; Alice's grandmother

Freed(werewolf)- he and Lucifer are comparing for who had the most legitimate children, but he's far behind; cool dude nevertheless

Alize(unicorn)- is the most beautiful of all, even Snow White is jealous of her; very straightforward most of the time

Clovir(cyclops)- a tall dude with a big heart, wholesome but doesn't like to participate in official meetings

Raye(phoenix)- anger issues and can't keep a man, but very strong and delicate

Most of them took human forms because they think that humans are the most interesting and beautiful creatures since they're favored by God.

There are other lords out there but isn't much known about them or they refused to enter this "EU of magical creatures" for different reasons. This Union was formed after The Great War, when a large number of demons came to each kingdom and attacked everyone and since everyone was by themselves at the time it caused mass destruction. They barely won, so the queen at the time summoned all the lords and asked them to collaborate.

For context, the then-queen was mostly in charge of establishing and maintaining peace between humans and magical creatures and also was a door between everyone and Heaven. Yes, angels are also a door between everyone and heaven but they barely interact with anyone personally (I would like to make an introduction to them in the future).

So after that meeting, the ones who accepted were promised protection from demons and others who would harm any of their kingdoms and some other stuff. Oh, and they were asked to stop fighting each other (because yes, they were fighting a lot) because they were allies now. After that, some closed kingdoms opened their doors to people.

That was the beginning. It took a lot to build a connection between them, to allow marriages between people of different species, different species living in other kingdoms other than their own, etc.
