Alright, during the time of starting to write this post, this is my first post back! Now, let’s see what we have here-
Tumblr media
...I- W h a t - ...At the current time of typing this, it is 1:38 A.M. and I spent at least five minutes chuckling at whatever on Earth this is. I will continue typing this post another day-
-----------------
Hello, it is now “another” day, and I am alright enough to type this without dying at the screaming! Without further ado, we shall begin!
Tumblr media
TERRIBLE PAIN (テリブル・ペイン) is an UTAU created by sammy oster, and I was so afraid that I was moved to tears at how beautiful that song was. As the submission stated, TERRIBLE PAIN is an UTAU whose voicebank is made out of entirely screams, which means it’s not a CV or any other known format type of bank. It contains breaths, sighs, a sniff, a swallow, and a cough, as stated on the wiki. May your poor throat rest peacefully.
TERRIBLE PAIN’s gender, height and weight are all marked as ⚠, which probably means that this one of a kind specimen’s details remain a mystery. What is known though is that the age is marked as an “adult.” TERRIBLE PAIN is also said to be a “serenely happy individual” who happens to be both selfless and selfish at the same time. TERRIBLE PAIN likes soft fabric, hospitals and catharsis, while disliking the outdoors.
Now, please tell me you have the same case as me, where your throat would still be fine after an unhealthy amount of screaming. :D

(短評)映画『ビルとテッドの時空旅行 音楽で世界を救え!』
Tumblr media

Inochi no Tabekata ch 1-1 Translation
Part #1 水平に落下するペイン Horizontal Falling Down
“Oh, I kill so many bugs and beetles every night. Now I’ll be killed by a hawk. That’s how it is. Oh, it’s hard, it’s hard. I won’t eat bugs anymore and I’ll starve to death. No, the hawk will kill me before that.”
– “Yodaka no Hoshi” (The Nighthawk’s Star) Kenji Miyazawa (1)
Chapter 1-1 花はどうして咲くの How do flowers bloom Otogiri-Tobi
“Otogiri.”
A teacher with black-framed glasses called out in front of the school gate. Otogiri Tobi just glanced at the teacher and passed by. The black-rimmed teacher once again groaned, "Otogiri..."
"A stiff one, that teacher," The Backpack laughs.
"It's his job." Tobi replied in a low voice.
That teacher has given Tobi life guidance many times since he entered school. Tobi didn't even know the teacher's name because he's neither his class teacher nor a subject teacher.
"Oh, your bag isn't the one specified by the school, oh, your socks are flashy, oh, your bangs are hanging over your eyebrows– why do schools want to put people in a mold?” Baku mumbles.
Tobi ignored him and entered the school building. He changed his shoes at the shoebox.
"Do you remember, Tobi? For more than a year, that teacher bothered you every morning, because you come with the way your hair is, you......”
"Come on. Forget it."
Tobi climbed the stairs and entered the 2nd grade, 3rd class classroom. Tobi’s seat was the third from the front, by the window. He placed Baku on the desk and sat on the chair. Tobi fell down on Baku.
"Would you like to go to school in the morning or would you rather sleep? I don't have anyone to talk to, so I'm available. Why don't you make one or two friends?"
"Baku, shut up..."
"Come on, be careful, Tobi. You'll end up talking to yourself."
"---"
Tobi lowered his voice to the limit and said,
"... I didn't make it to where your voice could only be heard by me in the first place."
"Isn't it fine, even if only you can hear it? Maybe that's what causes you to talk to me."
"...It's rather annoying"
"Huh. Is that so? You think you're cool because you don't have any friends, right?"
"...I don't think so."
"No, I think so. Did you know, Tobi? That’s called narcissism. In Japanese, it's ‘jiko tousui’(2)."
"...Whatever you say."
“Okay.”
“…………”
"I'll tell you,  if you're thinking something like ‘if I keep quiet, he’ll shut up sooner or later,’ you're making a big mistake." Baku sneered, saying, “Kekeke.”
"As long as you're alive, I won't shut up. Don't forget, Tobi. You and I share a common destiny. We're one in the same."
“I will not forget.” Tobi muttered silently.
I haven't forgotten anything.
"... Well. What would happen if , for example, you were to be put in a fire and burned until you turned to ashes? Sometimes I think about such things..."
"Hey, can you hear me?"
"... you're not hearing anything?"
"Where are my ears?"
"……here we go."
"Hey, what happened to my hearing?"
"... I don't know."
"It's cold. You're a cold guy, you. Your heart is below zero. It's freezing."
I really wish it would freeze. Tobi only thought so in his heart. It's like adding oil to a fire. Baku's nonsense is limited to listening. He knows, but he just reacts. Not enough training.
"...What kind of training is this?"
---
Tobi ate quickly. His school lunches were eaten in seconds. Were seconds too much? But other than bread, he ate it all at once with the momentum moving it into his stomach. Then he quickly cleaned up and left the classroom with the bread. When the staple food for school lunch is not bread, but white rice or noodles, he left the classroom empty-handed.
At first, the homeroom teacher stopped him with a feeling of "Hey, hey, Otogiri...", but as he ignored him, he stopped saying anything.
Today was bread day. And it was a butter roll.
Tobi carried Baku on his back and walked briskly down the corridor.
"You like the butter roll, Tobi?"
"Huh? I don't really like it though?"
"Liar. You're walking too lightly."
"... I don't hate it. I don't like it, not particularly."
The corridor was deserted. Junior high school students were still eating school lunches politely in the classroom. Even so, Tobi kept his voice down just in case.
"Tobi. You've always been more of a fan of bread than rice."
"Either is fine."
“Are you more of a fish person than meat?”
"Seriously, either is fine..."
"Well, what if it's kinako and bean paste?"
"That's bean paste"
"Well, the bean paste? Immediate answer."
"... I don't like powdery things."
"I understand. No, I don’t understand! What do you think I am? I’m a backpack. I've never eaten bean paste or soybean flour."
"I didn’t know..."
"Is there such a thing as saying that? You and I are close, aren’t we?... What kind of relationship is this?"
"I don't know about that..."
"I guess it's a rotten relationship. Yeah."
"Ah. It might be like that."
"Is it rotten, the bond that binds us together? Is there a better way to say it?"
"That's what you said.”
"Correct me there. Tell me it's wrong. I'm sure you'll be lonely."
"I’ll miss you..."
"Just a little?"
Tobi went out into the courtyard. It was sunny today. There were lawns, benches, and flower beds in the courtyard, and it was a busy place during the lunch break. But no one was there yet. It was empty.
"Are you going to do it again?"
Baku said in an exasperated tone.
Tobi put his right, middle, and ring fingers on the pipe that was installed on the outer wall of the school building. On the fitting that holds the pipe in place, to be precise.
He hooked his fingers and the toes of his shoes in the grooves between the other metal fittings, the pipe, and the outer wall, and climbed up smoothly.
"Absolutely not. What's with the idiots and the smoke..."
I don't mind if Baku teases me. In no time at all, they reached the three-story roof, and he thought today wasn't so bad. It was smooth, never getting lost or stuck. It may be a good route to climb.
Actually, you can go to the roof from inside the school building. However, the roof entrance was locked. It was probably for crime and danger prevention.
If you don't have the key, you can't go up to the roof unless you climb like this.
As far as Tobi knows, no one had gone this far to go up to the roof. Only Tobi had.
The rooftop was flat. Concrete was left on. There are low raised walls on the perimeter. They seem to be a parapet.
Tobi lowered Baku and placed it at his feet and sat on the parapet. He tore open the plastic wrap and took out the butter roll from inside. He took a bite and closed his eyes.
"Is it tasty, Tobi?"
"... Not at all. Is that normal?"
"I don't think it's fair to say that it's really good. You're cynical and cynical."
"Oh, then, good, good, good, good, good, good, good, good, good."
"Don't say it over and over again. That's kind of a lie..."
"That's why it's normal."
"Which do you prefer, Koppepan or a butter roll?"
"The butter roll"
"See?"
"... See what? What is it?"
"Do you need an explanation?"
Tobi ate the butter roll in three bites and looked at the light-colored sky and broken clouds. He quickly got bored and turned around to look at the school building.
The middle school building that Tobi attends is U-shaped, with a courtyard in the concave part. Tobi is on the roof of the special classroom building, and on the other side was the classroom building. The first floor of the classroom building was for third graders, the second floor was for second graders, and the third floor was for first graders.
A chime rang, signaling the start of lunch time. After the lunch break started, students came out one after another in the corridor of the classroom building facing the courtyard.
Occasionally, about one in ten students, perhaps even fewer, has a strange object on their head or shoulder.
Even if he sees them, Tobi doesn't turn his head wondering what it is.
For example, three female students walking together in the corridor on the second floor. He doesn’t even remember their names, but all three of them are students in Class 3, 2nd grade, just like Tobi.
One of them, the girl in the middle, has a bat-like creature clinging to her back.
He can't rule out the possibility that she has such a strange pet that she dotes on and brings to school.
However, this wasn't the first time Tobi had seen that creature. He saw it in his classroom. Or rather, that creature was always attached to her.
---
Yet no one, teachers nor students, talk about the creature.
It seemed that she herself was unaware of the creature's existence.
"Weird," Tobi muttered quietly.
"Huh?" Baku replied immediately. "What's wrong?"
"No, nothing really."
"No, no. You said it was weird, didn't you? You said it clearly, because I could hear you perfectly. So? What's wrong?"
"... Well, if I had to say it, it would be you."
"Huh? What's wrong with me?"
"Aren't you aware?"
"You!"
"Eh ──?"
Tobi looked down at the courtyard. It wasn't Baku who called out "you!" in a loud voice.
A man in work clothes is looking up at Tobi. He’s  a janitor at this school.
"……me?"
When Tobi pointed at himself, the janitor shouted, "It's you! No matter how you think about it, it's you! Because there's no one but you!"
"Ah... well, that's right."
"That's right, it's not...!"
He looks younger than most teachers. It may be the structure of his face itself, but he was always smiling and unnecessarily amiable. Every time they met in the school, he greeted Tobi, and even though Tobi ignored him because he was annoying, he still talks to him without learning.
"You know, Otogiri-kun, the rooftop is off-limits!? Or rather, it's been that way for a long time, you know? Sometimes you’re on the roof! It's strange, but how did you get up!? It's locked! I'm checking it all the time! By any chance, do you have a spare key!?"
"I don't have a duplicate key."
"That so! If you made a duplicate key on your own, it would be a big problem! Anyway, get off at once!"
"You mean jump off?"
"Not like that!? No, definitely not! Oh no, Otogiri-kun, stay there! I have a lot to ask you, so I'll go there!"
The janitor ran towards the school building. He must’ve been going to the staff room to get the key or something, and get to the roof via the stairs.
"What are you doing, Tobi?" Baku asked with a half-smile.
“No matter what—” Tobi picked up Baku. "I won't wait. It's troublesome."
"That so."
"I really liked it here, but..."
Tobi sighed and stepped over the parapet. It takes at most 10 seconds for Tobi to descend to the courtyard along the outer wall. Naturally, by the time the janitor arrives at the roof, Tobi isn't there.
---
After school, Tobi was summoned by his homeroom teacher, Mr. Harimoto, and was told to sit in a chair in the staff room for instruction. He didn't know the specifics of the instructions. It was most likely about the rooftop, but Tobi ignored almost everything Harimoto said. Not all. Almost everything.
"Are you listening, Otogiri? Answer me." Harimoto confirmed once every few minutes. Only then would Tobi answer with "yes" or "I'm listening."
Harimoto was around forty years old and wore a red jersey unless there’s a formal occasion. Because of his surname, Harimoto, and the fact that he has short hair that stands on end and is hardened with hair styling products, he seemed to be called "Hedgehog" in the shadows, or "Harii" affectionately(3).
"As your teacher, I do not want to be bothersome like this. But, Otogiri. It's the bare minimum. There are rules in society that must be followed."
When Harimoto finally finished lecturing and left the staff room, it was already past 4:30 pm.
"Kek!" Baku grumbled vaguely.
"It's so damn long and drowsy, Harii. I'm tired of being silent."
"Don't call him Harii..."
Tobi left school in a hurry. He was hurrying for a particular reason, but Tobi doesn't have the habit of walking leisurely. Walk slowly with long strides, or walk fast. It's basically one or the other.
"How to walk. Race walking?"
After being bothered by Baku, Tobi involuntarily loosened his legs in front of the school gate.
"...shut up"
"You're impatient. Why don't you spare more time and live calmly?"
"That's why you should shut up..."
Tobi looked at his watch. It takes fifteen minutes on foot to reach the facility. It's less than an hour until curfew. Because of Harimoto’s lecture, he has about 40 minutes of free time left. Even if Tobi were to take a bus to the area where he used to live, it would take twenty minutes to get there from here.
"...Is it not possible today?"
He had just arrived at the school gate when he was frustrated..
The height of the school gate is less than two meters. It's easy to climb, but it doesn't make him feel better. Tobi kicked the tiled school gate and jumped up with that momentum.
"──Sshi"
Involuntarily, Tobi made a small fist pump. As intended, he was able to stand on top of the school gate without using his hands.
"Tobi, you know? There are rules in society that must be followed?"
Baku laughed and quoted the lecture from Harimoto. Tobi tried to retort, but forgot what he was trying to say.
There was a female student on the other side of the school gate. looking up at Tobi.
"ah……"
She had long hair tied up in a bun and sharp features, and seemed familiar.
Or rather, a classmate.
Unusually for Tobi, he also remembers her name. It's a slightly unique surname, so he remembered it just by looking at the character once.
Her last name was Shiratama.
Her first name is also somewhat unique, written as ‘Tatsunoko’(4) and read as ‘Ryuuko.’
Shiratama Ryuuko seemed surprised, and blinked several times.
It surprised even Tobi. Why was Shiratama in a place like this? There was no one near the school gate. Tobi had assumed that surely no one was there. Someone has been there. Moreover, a girl in the same class, instead of anyone else.
Tobi filled his mouth with air and pulled his lips together.
 What should I do?
Baku doesn't say anything. Say something at a time like this, Tobi thought so from the bottom of his heart. It doesn't matter if it's a silly thing, a mockery, or a boring joke, just say something. When Baku speaks, only Tobi can hear it.
Why is Shiratama also silent?
Awkward.
Tobi looked closely at Shiratama for the first time. He had the impression that she had a sharp face, but her eyes, nose, and mouth weren't particularly large. It's not unusually small. It's not crooked or one-sided. Everything that should be in place is in place, and there is not a single distorted part. Even if you look at it for a long time, you will never feel uncomfortable. It is a form that you will never get tired of seeing.
It's not for that reason, but Tobi was staring at Shiratama.
He couldn't look away, as if she was staring at him or something.
To be honest, Tobi was embarrassed. If so, he should turn away, but somehow he couldn’t.
What is this?
"What time is it?"
"Hey...!"
At that time, someone raised their voice from afar. It was that janitor.
"Get off the school gate! Or rather, Otogiri-kun! Isn't that you again...!"
It was as if the janitor's yelling had lifted the spell. Tobi turned around. The janitor brandished a broom in front of the school building’s entrance.
"Excuse me"
The janitor jumped up when Tobi lightly bowed his head.
“You just got scolded by Harimoto-sensei, but you haven’t regretted it at all, have you?”
"Even though I'm sorry..."
Tobi jumped from the school gate. He felt like the janitor was chasing him, so he hurried away from the school gate.
When he turned around two corners, no one was there. Tobi stopped running.
"That janitor is sluggish..."
"Looks like you've been completely targeted." Baku laughs, kuhehe. Tobi frowned.
"I want you to make an excuse."
"You can talk to him directly, not me."
"What should I say?"
"That's right. An example, ‘I’m a pitiful second-year junior high school student who is all alone in the world and is just doing his best to live a healthy life without running into delinquency, so please leave me alone’?"
"I don't feel sorry for myself, though."
"Isn't it a convenience? Is being alone for the rest of your life enough to make you look pathetic?"
"Almost. I'm not alone for the rest of my life."
"Ah?"
"I have a brother."
When Tobi brought up his older brother, Baku mostly kept his mouth shut. Baku does not know Tobi's older brother. Tobi met Baku after he and his brother parted ways.
Looking at his watch, it was 4:40 p.m. He should arrive at the facility just before the 5:30 curfew. Tobi decided to take a little detour.
Even though it's called a detour, Tobi just takes a detour and just walks. He wanted to avoid spending money as much as possible. He didn’t have enough money to waste to begin with.
At the facility where Tobi is enrolled, junior high school students receive an allowance of 3,000 yen a month. Tobi didn’t know if the 3,000 yen was too much or too little. However, if once in a while he takes the bus, 220 yen for one way and 440 yen for round trip will blow through it at once.
The money runs out in no time. In case of an emergency, you will be in trouble if you don't have something with you. If you don't want to be in trouble, don't spend money as much as possible.
That's why Tobi has never been to a hamburger shop or a donut shop. He tries not to go to convenience stores as much as possible because he thinks he might accidentally buy unnecessary things.
I don't hate walking.
Even though it’s limited to situations where there are no people around, he is also able to talk to Baku."
At least it's not boring.
"I have free time," Baku sometimes says things like he read Tobi's mind. "I'm basically just being carried on your shoulder."
"Do you want me to throw you?"
“Even if you make a mistake, you wouldn’t do that, would you?”
"If you flew in the sky, it might be fun."
"You know, you can't say that when you can't be thrown. You don't know the meaning of the word 'fly' even though you're ‘flying(5)’, do you? Now check it out in a dictionary. Check it out today. There's no mention of being thrown in the place.”
Tobi went from the street into the alley and out onto the street again. He thought he had never been around the corner before, so he tried to go around it. But it was a misunderstanding, and it was a road he knew. He had been walking around the school for over a year now. There are probably very few roads he hadn’t set foot on.
The junior high school that Tobi attends is in the district called Ourai-district, and the facility is in the neighboring district called Asakawa-district.
A river named Asakawa flows through the Asakawa-district. The river is wide, but the water is so shallow that you can walk across it unless the water level is rising due to rain.
"However, Tobi, don't you think it's an easy name? Asakawa is a shallow river (6)..."
"It's easy to understand, isn't it?"
"It’s an emotion."
Tobi walked along the bank of Asakawa carrying a backpack that cheekily talked about his emotions.
There is a tent village on the riverbed of Asakawa. It was just called a tent village, there were few tents used for camping. In reality, it's full of shacks made from plastic sheets and scrap wood. Also known as Asakawa Den. Den seems to be a word that means a burrow, a stronghold, or a cave.
Keep away from Asakawa's tent village.
Local children are taught that. In elementary school, junior high school, and facilities, all the adults say so. Sometimes it was said that it was dangerous there. Tobi has never entered the tent village, Asakawa Den. Sometimes he just looks at it from the bank like this.
It's not a particularly scary place.
The residents of Asakawa Den are probably not wealthy. Some people are not well dressed. But there are decent people too.
Once, when he broke the curfew and walked around this area at night, the residents of Asakawa Den surrounded a bonfire of oil drums. He didn't know how they lived. But he heard laughter. They were cooking something, eating and drinking and chatting happily.
People seemed to be having fun, but Tobi felt a little weak.
It was nice to see it from afar. He just didn't want to get too close.
"Tobi, you have a communication problem. You should fix it."
"It's not like that."
“Are you serious?”
"I just feel tired when I'm with people."
"No matter how tired you are or whatever it is, humans are social animals. You can't live alone. You have to learn to be patient."
"Baku is saying something decent..."
"I'm a great backpack, and I can talk about nonsensical things if I feel like it."
"Your habit..."
Asakawa flows from north to south. Tobi turned his back on the setting sun and began to cross the bridge over Asakawa.
Although the roads were getting crowded, the sidewalks were refreshing. Tobi suddenly climbed onto the railing of the bridge.
"Well, that’s like you..." Baku said in amazement. Tobi walked on the parapet without hesitation.
"Don't fall"
"How is it? Don't you know the words ‘let your guard down’?"
"I know that much, but I'm not letting my guard down."
"I'm used to it, so I'm fine, but I guess it is high up. You know, I'm scared, but I'm used to it. Only those who think they're okay will have an accident."
“Why are you so cautious?
"Careful. I'm naturally thoughtful."
"I was born..."
"Is that bad?"
"It's not bad at all. I was wondering how Baku was born."
"Ah? That's you──..." Baku groaned and thought.
Tobi remembers that man. A tall, one-eyed man in a top hat. That man left his backpack in front of Tobi. But Baku doesn't seem to understand what happened before he started talking.
Tobi stopped and turned to face the river. When he sat down on the railing, he felt as if his shoes would fall off because he didn't have anywhere to step with them.
"Hey, Tobi. If you do that here, you'll look like someone about to jump off."
"I won't jump down. Even if I fall, it's down to the river. I can swim."
"But it's shallow. It’s only the Asakawa."
"It's okay."
"Be careful, okay?"
"Yes."
Tobi nodded and shook his body back and forth. Baku made a noise.
"Hey! Come on, you told me you'd be careful...!"
"I won't fall from this much."
"You don't know!? That's exactly what you need to be careful about!"
"Don't let your guard down. It's on purpose."
"Right. On purpose. On purpose. Don't do it on purpose. Don't do it. Never do it."
"If you tell me not to do it..."
“Don’t pretend.
"Eh..."
“Isn’t it about time for curfew anyway?”
"Well, yes."
"Don't you want to go home?"
Tobi pretended not to have heard and didn't answer Baku's question.
Baku laughs.
"You don’t like that facility."
"I don't like it... I don't like it"
"Other residents say whatever they want and call the facility 'our facility', but you're different. You don't think of the facility as your own home. You just can't believe it."
Tobi dangled his legs. Before he knew it, his back was quite rounded and he was looking down. He couldn’t bring himself to straighten his back. He didn't want to face forward or upward.
"... it's not about the facility, it's just--"
"It’s just?"
"It just doesn't fit"
"Huh. What?"
"People."
"In short, you hate people."
"It's not that I don't like it. It just doesn't suit me. That's what you're saying."
"You're a troublesome bastard."
"Shut up..."
"By the way, Tobi."
"Hmm?"
"Did you notice?"
"What?"
"Right here"
"Huh? What?"
"There she is"
"Where?"
Tobi looked up.
He looked to his right and then to his left.
Only about a meter away from Tobi—of course, not on top of the railing, but under it, on the sidewalk of Asakawa Bridge, was a female student.
The girl was wearing the uniform of the junior high school that Tobi attends. She had an awfully sharp face. She had her long hair tied up in a bun.
"... Eh ──"
It was kind of funny.
It’s similar to the incident before. A while ago, or just a while ago.
Shiratama Ryuuko was staring at Tobi. Her eyes weren't wide open, but her gaze was as if she's trying to grasp the target firmly and tie it down. The target was Tobi.
A long time ago, when Tobi was younger, the teacher at the facility warned him to look him in the eye when he spoke. As instructed, Tobi looked into the teacher's eyes. Then, for some reason, the teacher didn't look into Tobi's eyes. The teacher looked at Tobi's nose and mouth.
Looking straight into someone's eyes is kind of intimidating.
Some kind of book in the facility said that cats dislike making eye contact with humans. A blunt stare was usually a sign of hostility.
But Ryuuko Shiratama just seems to be observing Tobi. Was she looking at Tobi as if he was a rare creature? She was trying to find out in detail what kind of shape Tobi had and what kind of ecology it was. That was the look in her eyes.
What was this person?
She was there earlier.
She’s here again.
Is it just a coincidence? He wouldn't say it's impossible, but it was strange. A strange story.
Or rather, scary.
Tobi wanted to run away. If he hadn't sat on the parapet, he might have started running without looking back. That's it. Run away You can stand up and run over the parapet, or you can go down. If you want to escape, you can escape now. Why doesn't Tobi do that? Tobi himself doesn't know. It was the same at the school gate. When Shiratama was staring at him like this, he couldn't look away for some reason.
At the same time as Tobi said, "Um," Shiratama called Tobi's name, "Otogiri-kun."
"Yes," Tobi nodded involuntarily. "... Huh? What?"
"Do you know me?" Shiratama asked, still staring at Tobi. She hadn't blinked in a while. Doesn't it make your eyes dry and painful? He was so curious about that.
"I know...but... Shiratama-san, right? We're in the same class. Shiratama, Ryuuko."
"So you do recognize me. Who I am."
Shiratama finally blinked twice, three times.
Then she lifted her chin slightly, narrowed her eyes, and slightly lifted the corners of her lips.
"Good. I thought you weren't interested in other people."
"... I'm really not interested, though."
"You’re not?"
Now she rounded her eyes and pursed her mouth. When the expression changed, Ryuuko became another Ryuuko. And yet she was her.
"Then how do you know me?"
"That's... the name is a bit weird?"
“Because it’s a combination of Shiratama and Ryuuko, it’s often said.”
"Yes... maybe. Well--"
"Tobi," Baku laughed, "heh, heh. Isn't it unusual that you're talking to your friends at school?"
‘It's not like we’re friends.’ Tobi was about to say something back. But Tobi guessed Baku was making fun of him by saying that on purpose. Besides, he can't yell at the Backpack to shut up in front of Shiratama.
"It's true that my name is so common—"
Tobi suddenly noticed something strange.
Shiratama didn't stare at Tobi. Although she was looking at Tobi, her gaze was not focused on Tobi. What was Shiratama looking at?
It was the backpack that Tobi carries with the strap on his left shoulder. Shiratama is looking at Baku.
"... What's wrong, Tobi?" Baku let out a suspicious voice.
Tobi didn't answer and put Baku back on his back and pulled him close to his body.
"Well, there is... a name... I mean... huh? What...?”
Shiratama didn't reply. She stared at Baku.
Tumblr media
"Wha──"
Baku began to panic.
"Wh-who is this woman? Well, no way, it's about me..."
"It's me," Shiratama opened her mouth. She still didn't want to take her eyes off the bag. “I want to talk to Otogiri-kun.”
"...Ambushed."
For a moment, Tobi didn't know what was going on. Thinking back, he understood.
"Ah... just now, at the school gate?"
"Yes," Shiratama agreed without looking at Tobi. “But Haizaki-san got mad and ran away, so I chased after you.”
"...Haizaki-san?"
"Our School Janitor"
"That's that person’s name. Haizaki..."
“Mr. Haizaki never fails to say hello to anyone, and he also casually accepts small talk. He is a very friendly person.”
"Heh..."
To Tobi, it doesn't matter. The name and personality of the janitor. It's not like he cared.
Rather than that, why was Shiratama ambushing Tobi? Why did you bother chasing me? What do you want to talk about? Then Shiratama was still staring at Baku. I can't help but worry about that.
“──So… Shiratama-san, do you have something for me… do you have something to do?”
"No business, no ambushes, no chasing here," Shiratama finally looked at Tobi instead of Baku and smiled.
Tobi put his face down. He just hung my head. Then he lifted his head. Tobi looked up at Shiratama and stared at her.
"That," Shiratama raised her right hand and pointed. "About the bag."
"... Eh... Baku...?"
"Baku," Shiratama said so and tilted her head.
"Bag? Baku? Because it's a bag, it's B-A-G (7). Correct, it's a bag?"
"Ah... um, I'm not very good at English..."
Tobi started calling Baku ‘Baku’ because Baku called himself ‘Backpack’.
It was a long time ago, so he didn't remember the details of the exchange. But from what he recalled, Tobi asked, "What are you?" and Baku replied, "I'm a backpack." Or it might have been “It's Backpack-sama”. Anyway, ‘Backpack’ is long and a little hard to describe, so he called him ‘Baku’ for short.
"... my Baku, no... uh backpack... a bag. Um, so, my bag... not a Baku... ugh. What's wrong with my bag...?"
“Otogiri-kun, you often talk with that bag, don’t you?”
“With the bag—”
Tobi nearly fell off the parapet.
"Wha-aa, with the bag? Me? Huh, you say I’m talking, eh? Wha, why? No, I don't talk, but...?"
“Are you good at ventriloquism?” Shiratama indifferently asked a strange question.
"ventrilo..."
Tobi considered ventriloquism.
Wait. It was impossible. Or rather, it's funny. To suddenly challenge ventriloquism that he’d never done before. He couldn’t do it anyway. No need to try here.
"... I don't have any experience with ventriloquism."
"Then, who is the voice other than you who is talking to you?"
“I…other than—”
"Hey, Tobi..."
Baku whispered in a low voice.
"It looks like she heard my voice. . . . She’ll find out."
"That voice," Shiratama nodded. "Correct. I know."
Is she serious? Tobi didn't just think so.
"... Are you serious?" He muttered out loud.
Shiratama puffed out her chest and filled her well-proportioned face with a smile in full bloom as if it were decorated with colorful flowers.
"I’m serious."

(1) Parts 1-3 have text at the beginning coming from famous stories. For this one, I had to use a Google Translation because I couldn’t find an official translation of the story.
(2) Put what Google Translate said those characters sounded like. Originally, he says「ナルシシズム」 (narushishizumu) then the Japanese term.
(3)  “Harii” (written originally as 「ハリー」) is shortened from 「ハリネズミ」 (harinezumi) means hedgehog
(4)  Its written here as 「龍の子」or “dragon’s child”
(5)「飛」, the kanji for Tobi’s name, meaning “fly.”
(6)「浅川」Asakawa is made of the kanji for ‘shallow’ and ‘river’.
(7) She spells it out 「ビーエージー」(“bii-ee-jii”) here.
