I've befriended a lot of the others. Some are a little standoff-ish and it might take a bit of time to get them to warm up to us, but I've made some progress. I am the oldest here so I feel like it's my responsibility to take care of everyone. I don't want anyone to feel excluded or left alone for too long.

I noticed that some of the younger ones have been depending on me like I am a mother, alongside Mrs. Kirisaki... I've been learning a lot about parenting from her. I never had kids of my own but it's such a special feeling to be able to care for them. Even though I'm no longer alive, I'm still experiencing and learning about things that I hadn't before, and I'm so grateful for that. It feels like a second chance, in a way. Without the others’ company, I don't know where I'd be!

Neil taps his fingers against his thigh, looking at the floor away from Jean’s searching eyes so he can think. Finally he comes up with something. “I… I would tell Stuart that Andrew is my friend. And he thinks this place is legit and that I work here. Duh.”

Jean laughs, rolls his eyes, and shakes his head all at once. “Alright, shit for brains. And after your uncle put a bullet through his head, what would be your next move?”

You let your phone drop to the bathroom counter, blinking slowly, unable to fathom the conversation that had just taken place. Had he really just said those things? Scrolling through the texts confirmed that yes, he had indeed. The bastard.

Charles had always been the jealous type. But attacking you like that when he had been the one to… It was absolutely ridiculous. Apparently he still couldn’t—or wouldn’t—grasp the depths of how much he had actually hurt you.

You’d loved him with all of your heart. Until he had ripped it out and hurled it to the floor, letting it shatter into a million tiny pieces. Yet, even then, you would’ve forgiven him. If only he’d apologised. If only he’d shown true remorse. But he hadn’t. And so you’d been forced to walk the path of mending your own heart, and move on with your life.

Perhaps a small part of you had hoped that he could be happy for you. That somehow, even after everything, you would be able to greet each other normally—that you could coexist peacefully. But as his texts just now had demonstrated, that wasn’t going to happen. Not right now. And definitely not next week in Texas. You sighed. It would’ve been too good to be true, anyway. Especially considering who you were currently seeing…

A light knock sounded at the door, startling you out of those thoughts. 

“Are you almost ready to go, darling?” a male voice asked, soft.

You swallowed the bitter taste that Charles’ texts had managed to leave behind. He wasn’t worth it, you repeated to yourself. You weren’t going to let his shenanigans ruin a perfect night—a perfect date. You ran a hand through your hair and readjusted the necklace around your neck when the bathroom door creaked open behind you. 

Looking up, your eyes met your handsome, new boyfriend’s through the mirror. He was smiling, eyebrows raised in silent question, ever patient as he waited for you to finish up. You felt your pulse quicken at the sight of him, dressed to perfection in a dark suit, hair neatly tousled.

As always, his presence was able to reassure you within the blink of an eye, the tense muscles in your neck and shoulders relaxing as you gladly let all of your complex emotions fall away.

“Yes,” you nodded, a genuine smile spreading across your lips. “I’m ready.”

au where coriolanus stayed in district 12 and continued his relationship with lucy gray. by the end of his 2nd year in d12 lucy gray became pregnant and even though they were overjoyed, they were stressing about their unfortunate circumstances.

coriolanus tried his best to be present for lucy gray during her multiple pregnancies, but there was only so much he could do while he still had his peacekeeper duties. he had to work very hard to keep his hands to himself whenever he would hear murmurs from the people of 12 when they would call lucy gray distasteful names or speculate about the father of her children. as their kids kept growing up it became harder to pretend like he didn’t know them. seeing them at the market trailing after lucy gray tugged at his heart strings, especially since the kiddos had been taught to pretend like they didn’t see their father.

however, when their children were 2 and 3 years old an incident happened: they had been walking around with their mama when some drunkard had reached for them and since coriolanus had been patrolling around, all hell broke loose. coriolanus had beat the man into a pulp and had to be separated by his partners. when he reached the commander’s office he received a stern talking to and was reprimanded, but as he was leaving his commander stopped him. “you know i’m not an idiot right? those kids couldn’t look anymore like you. i have been suspecting for some time, but seeing them up close today confirms all my suspicions. you’ve done a great job here, it would feel almost unfair of me to deny you the chance to have more off days to be with your family. maybe by next year you’ll get your own quarters and you could settle in with them if you behave and don’t pull some shit like what you did today again. take this opportunity i’m giving you and don’t fuck it up. you’re dismissed.” coriolanus couldn’t believe what he had just heard; had the commander grown a heart? he quickly shook that thought out of his head. he was too excited, he had to tell his little family the great news. ❄️🕊️

A moment later, the sand shifts beside him and Abram turns to find Andrew standing there in the cave’s opening. Based on his mer form, Abram thought he’d be much taller. He’s not sure why though, since his own tail is quite long and he only clocks in at 5’3” as a human. Andrew’s towel is vibrant and covered in tropical fruits. Abram has to hold in a laugh when he remembers how Andrew came to own it. 

Apparently the other walker seems to think Abram is amused at something else. He scoffs and Abram raises his gaze. Andrew’s arms are crossed over his chest, but he makes a show of rolling his eyes. “If you say anything about how short I am, I will eat you.”

“I wasn’t going to say anything,” Abram insists, making Andrew narrow his eyes. “I’ve barely got three inches on you, from the looks of it. In case you didn’t notice, the end-of-school growth spurt passed me by too.”

“Shut up,” Andrew says, pushing past him and starting across the sand on wobbly legs. Abram watches him for a moment, wondering how stiff they must be after all that time. Andrew stops abruptly and turns to Abram, his hair swishing against his back. “Are you coming?”

“I’d better,” Abram says, falling into step beside Andrew. Matching his bare-footed foot steps. “Otherwise, you’ll never find my motel room.”

Tu nous quittais le 13 octobre 2010 me laissant anéantie à vie.

Je me recueille devant ton urne chaque soir, et la bougie sera allumée ce soir pour te rendre hommage 🕯️ 🕊️

Merci de tout mon cœur pour tout ce que tu m’as apporté durant ton vivant, cet amour inconditionnel qu’on ne trouve pas chez les humains 🙏🏻 🙏🏻

Je ne t’oublierai jamais, je t’aimerai toujours 💗

(Poème écrit pour tes 20 ans le 12 février 2011)

🤍 MON GALOPIN 🤍

Mon petit cœur, Mon petit amour,

Mon fidèle compagnon, mon ami le plus cher,

Ce 12 février marque pour nous un jour anniversaire,

Celui qui, ce beau jour de 1991, en Ardèche, t’a vu naître,

Tu aurais eu 20 ans aujourd’hui, si seulement tu avais vécu,

Mais la grande roue impitoyable de l’univers ne l’a pas voulu.

Nous espérions tellement l’atteindre ce chiffre de 20,

Pour continuer ensemble vers de beaux lendemains,

Nous voulions tant battre tous les records connus,

Mon petit cœur, mon petit amour, t’en souviens-tu ?

Il y a 2 ans, un AVC sur toi, violemment s’abattait,

Te privant de l’usage de tes pattes, cruellement paralysées,

Devant le pénible spectacle, le désespoir nous envahissait,

Et des torrents de larmes de mes yeux jaillissaient.

Alors qu’à l’unanimité, la grande majorité te condamnait,

Après tant et tant d’efforts déployés et renouvelés,

Durant des heures entières et de longues journées,

Soudain, dans un ultime élan, tu te relevais et tu marchais.

Devant l’étonnement de nos grands yeux écarquillés,

Cet incroyable miracle, de bonheur nous remplissait,

Je t’ai admiré pour cette force unique, cette volonté.

Exceptionnel petit chien, battant, tu l’as toujours été,

Ce jour béni d’entre tous fût le plus beau de ma vie,

Dans cette douloureuse épreuve, tu m’as tant appris.

Cette rage de vivre, depuis, tu l’as toujours gardée,

Le 13 octobre 2010, un nouvel AVC destructeur te frappait,

Cette fois, brutalement et sournoisement, te terrassait,

Enfermant ton petit corps dans une paralysie totale,

Signant ainsi au fer rouge la condamnation finale.

Durant la dernière nuit, tes appels au secours retentissaient,

Et me contraignaient à prendre la décision tant redoutée,

D’abréger tes jours et ta souffrance, et choisir de te délivrer,

Effroyable décision que je ne pourrais jamais me pardonner,

Je le sais, tu voulais vivre encore et ne jamais nous quitter.

Sur la table du vétérinaire, ton petit corps sans vie gisait,

Devant mes larmes de désespoir et ma terrible détresse,

Dans un ultime pleur, tu me suppliais de m’accrocher.

La piqûre contenant le poison mortel ne voulait pas agir,

Sentant mon immense chagrin, tu refusais encore de partir,

Avant que tes yeux et ton cœur ne s’éteignent à jamais,

Me laissant là, abandonnée, impuissante et brisée.

Alors, en hommage à ta force et ton énorme courage,

Comme un emblème, je porte ton collier à mon poignet,

Pour que ton combat ne soit pas vain et ne finisse en mirage,

De me relever et d’être encore plus forte, je te promets,

Afin que ton âme si pure et si belle, puisse vivre en paix.

J’attends maintenant le jour béni de nos retrouvailles,

Ce jour sacré qui nous verra toi et moi à jamais réunis,

Ma seule volonté enfouie au fond de mes entrailles,

Celle de te retrouver enfin pour l’éternité, au paradis.

Je t’aime, à jamais, pour toujours,
