yeah i have a lot of thoughts about that, i just keep most of it off of here cause its like im not rly trying to have discourse about it
but as a gifmaker/poster in this space there's really obvious patterns in my notes lol and it frustrates me!
ok nick is my Guy we all know this, but it's impossible to ignore how obvious fandom is in it's treatment of non-white (and in this case specifically, asian) people just saying

I saw a post today that I didn't want to like..yuh know fuckin hijack cause I saw an artist talk about it. but I wanted to talk about it cause I've had folks unintentionally do stuff in my favor that I didn't appreciate. I've spoken about it on my facebook but not here. I notice this happens way too much and I beg you do not confront me that someone is copying my style... I have been around since the 2000's online. I have had many claim my art, topics, and style inspire them... yes pple will nip from me cause I inspire them and I'm okay with that. As long as no one is being racist towards me and my work I don't care. I'm happy I can inspire others in such a manner..do not go under their art going "this looks like tainted sweet meats art"..its rude af and personally if I see you do it I won't tolerate that and most likely comment on that post congratulating the artist’s work and make you look like a fool ( I’m very petty on that front).I also teach folks paid art classes privately online and the ones I teach under my wings as an apprentice will have styles like mine... THIS IS ON PURPOSE... so cut it tf out... On said post I understood where the artist was coming from about just being used as an inspo resource rather than treated as an artist. An it took me so long to realize what folks were doing when inspired by me cause I was so used to getting white folks be super racist with my my art and extremely fetishy race wise with me in the art community that I couldn't tell the difference if this was like genuine inspo or like are you poppin your rocks off at the fact that a lot of my art is asian/black coded. If that yuh know *spice* was something you can sell off me type thing as yuh brand. Cause I've had it happen where folks copy my work and even one creepy artist stalked me for years ripping my ocs to resell them as “urban adopts” and mentally I didn’t see that as inspo an was like damn just hard R me and get it over with at that point. It was kinda wild.( dont worry tho that artist was quickly called out by black twitter for some racist stuff they drew..like making a black vamp oc getting hung...woo boi...that was...that was something. hoooooooweeeever, I did notice it triggered others in the past when I spoke about it to target folks who just genuinely loved me and my work and that made me feel a bit protective over folks who just enjoyed my work and I inspired them to draw.  I think in my older age I can tell the difference very quickly and don't mind folks getting inspired by my work as long as racism and fetish aint the reason cause at that point I wouldn't see that as art inspo just plain overall disrespect to me as a person. Wanted to say a thing cause damn I felt that post and understood it. but this is just for me tho and my experience... every artist is different.

I honestly dont think White users on tumblr especially are actually reading any educational texts outside of MAYBE sometimes Queer theory featuring White people bc so many White users can barely be bothered to read text posts on tumblr gently explaining racism while holding their hand.
Thats why you have proshitters unironically calling teens who voice discomfort with the sexualization of child characters their age (or younger) "fascists", and why you have White users flinch and cry and sob about potential alleged deportation or genocide when Indigenous people so much breathe the word "landback" & "decolonization", why even White American & Canadian users somehow don't know about incredibly influencial, popular movements or political terms like MMIW or Idle No More (& they don't even know what those initials stand for despite living in the country it originated).
None of you know what anything means or is or bother to read or Google it to educate yourself & instead you just shit your pants in nonwhite users' inboxes & reblogs

Not only have i noticed the very white music taste (and im white too so i dont get the people who don't notice) but also the very american taste here. They mostly listen to music in english and i hardly know peoplw from the usa here who know music from my country, could that be prejudice too?, i wonder. Loved your post and hope you have the greatest of days 🇦🇷💗.
No fr. And the handful of times people do get their hands on some Non English / non American music they, meme it to death. Remember that hot minute where Gasolina and Despacito were popular on the radio and Tumblr users made a bit of them because thet were (checks notes) fun and standard club bangers but in Spanish? Fucking nuts dude.
Honestly yeah, I think it is a bit bigoted. I specified Rap in my post cus it's topical, but users on here are very weird about Raggaeton, Raggae Fusion, and other non Anglo / nonwhite genres too. Thank you for the fair wishes, the feeling is mutual ^_^

as a black genderfucked lesbian who is american, watching white american queers argue over stuff sometimes feels so.......like. hollow. or shallow. in a way. i dont know how to explain it. like it just feels like "lol. lmao even" because yes i GUESS these are valid concerns but you guys................can we focus on why you guys never include black people, or almost any nonwhite folks in your little rants that border on tantrums. i mean EYEEEEE know why but do YOUUU know why? i dont know. it just makes it hard to navigate because they're fighting battles i would never think to pick up simply because its like okay yes thats a problem but there is a giant tuna sitting on the grill rn i am not worried about anchovies
EXACTLY. It’s so exhausting being black and trans and trying to exist in trans spaces. White trans people never consider trans people of color when they’re talking about the community as a whole it’s so frustrating. Trying to find things that were useful to me as a younger trans person was pretty much impossible and sorta still is :’) Don’t even get me started on all the “trans stereotypes” that only ever include white people. I have never once related to any of that shit.
I truly wish it was easier for trans people or color to take up space in this community.

my redemption arc started when i was like 12 watching an Art Youtube video where they complained about the Tumblr Artstyle (didnt know what that was or why ppl were mad about it so i was tryna figure it out) and one thing the person said was that typical traits of it were drawing big/wide noses and visible body hair on cartoony characters and i was like. i like big noses and body hair on cartoon characters. also those are both characteristic associated with a lot of nonwhite ppl so this white ass artist (you can tell when they're white even if they dont show their face) who's like at most 5 years older than me is probably just a shit head who thinks its ugly for people to be non-white and hairy. bye forever.
it was such a formative moment for nooo reason like since that day i was like. big nose bitches get main priority. and while we're at lets make some of em hairy too. and here we are! years later and i no longer draw white people fasdilkmfsdagsg

Okay offering a bit of an alternative perspective, let me establish rn im not a fan of tme/tma either 👍
So i think it gets lost on people that tme/tma was coined SPECIFICALLY to describe intracommunity dynamics, like cis people were simply. Not factored into the coining of the terms, or the topics it was intended to discuss.
Honestly, i think the idea that transfeminine people being oft excluded from integrated community with transmasc individuals is grounded in reality, but it absolutely requires intersectionality for it to be legitimized and elaborated on in a meaningful way. Which, well, transradfems dont like intersectionality very much at all.
And speaking as a nonwhite perisex afab person. The trans women and fems who get excluded from trans men and masc circles are excluded for the same reasons poc trans men/mascs are excluded from those spaces. And you know the people i see doing much of the excluding, whether they declare themselves allies to transfems or not, are middle to upper class white transmascs. Speaking from personal experience, there does seem to be a demographic implicitly ignorant of the transfems they are in community with, and a lot of it stems from what i observe as a sort of inability or unwillingness to reject the politics of the communities they were raised in (lots of liberalism and cultural feminism). They sort of unconsciously reinforce socialization segregated by gender.
It’s a reproduction of a general pattern of thinking you see with cis gay people, who also tend to be white: i cant be that bigoted because im x. Obviously, this is also an issue with white transfems, but not in the same ways as they are with transmascs, and i think anyone who sweeps this issue under the rug are being dishonest with themselves. But my point stands that, within the demographic, certain groups of transmascs can be afforded a specific form of privilege, not because they *are* transmasc, but because theyre *not transfem*. Because at its core, that is privilege— not being subject to certain types of treatment, or being less prone to certain conditions, on the basis of not possessing socially marked traits you dont have control over.
Transradfem discourse fails in that it cant decide whether it truly wants to be about intracommunity discussion or not. Whether it treats transmisogyny as a grand or local narrative depends entirely on what’s convenient to argue a specific point. The only thing consistent about their worldview is that transfems are at the bottom, dehumanized, abused, and cast aside always, with no room for any nuance, because to acknowledge situations in which such totalizing logic fails can only ever be an invalidation of their trauma.
And perhaps the most important thing that should be kept in mind when talking about these things is that other trans people are hardly ever the enemy. Trans people with differing viewpoints on intracommunity relations are not the same as sellouts like blaire white or brianna wu who do the “fuck you got mine” shit. This goes for the transradfems who constantly talk down to “transandrobros”, but it also applies to some of us in that we cant let a vocal minority sway our perceptions of the majority. Most transfems dont give two craps about this.
I do not view "not being a transfem" as a privilege for other trans people, regardless of any nuance or moderation one may take that view with. You may not be subject to some extremely specific behaviors, but to call it "privilege" when one faces oppression on that same axis is highly misleading at best. Exclusion of transfems by transmascs is not worse or more pervasive of an issue than the reverse.
I'm also not a fan of how often intercommunity discourse gets boiled down to The Whites Are At It Again, especially because transradfems are often saying that about transandrophobia believers. Plenty of white transmascs are also excluded simply for their masculinity and to say all (including presumably white) transfems are treated like PoC trans men is, I feel, very dismissive and inaccurate.

Welp. I knew I had to leave Iran out of that ask. Now it took over any point I was trying to make about states being evil.
There's no inequality in islam, huh? It's not as bad as Christianity but I think you should try more to be aware of them. Hadith thinks the intelligence of two Women combined equals to one man, for a tame example.
"to single out islam ..." Why did you have to bring white people into this?
Yes what you said are personal wajibat. Sharia also exists.
Islam is fundamentally against monopoly and in favor of basic annual income, which is neat! It can fit into Maexist Leninist leftism. So I guess you're not wrong but I had an Anarchist perspective in mind.
Well thanks for your reply anyway and thanks for all you do. Before becoming a Kafir I read into islam a lot and I kinda fell in love with it too but just realised it wasn't for me so at no point I stand for islamophobia.
ok. well you didnt say states are evil, you said islam and leftism arent compatible.
also i said i don't think islam is *inherently* unequal. which was your question. there are things that can be interpreted as inequality. it depends on cultural and societal influences as well. there are also different interpretations of that hadith, and different translations. and historical context. plus there are some people who don't consider hadith useful or necessary when following islam. i don't want to get into it because i personally have pretty different views about islam.
if you know about the economic rules of islam, then you'd also know that women have economic rights inherent to them that specifically protect their income. so that's why i don't think its right to say islam is 'inherently' unequal.
also also. there are nonwhite christians? islam is not the only religion with brown people.
sharia does exist, i just dont think its a requirement in life as a muslim. you can live your whole life without being in a country that practices sharia and still be considered muslim.
theres no reason to talk down to me about this. everyone practices religion differently in life. i dont like to talk about my ideas about islam because i acknowledge they're pretty different from mainstream opinions.

ooooobliiiiigaaatory sso post because new dark rider design dropped! erissa (not sure why they didnt just keep elise or change it to eris? but that's ok!), the remake of chiyo, just dropped, and... she's white! interesting. there were a lot of ways sso could've saved the dark riders fumbles. there were a LOT of those fumbles, but the one i hammered on the hardest was chiyo, because i myself am japanese, and immediately know a bad design when i see one. likewise, i'm pretty spot on with calling how that character will most likely be written, and can make a few good solid guesses. i will say, i feel lots more in common with sabine, and am against the way they designed someone i could relate to and then painted them staunchly as a villain; likewise with all the dark riders, this may be sso's most diverse group yet, and they are villains. HOWEVER. at that point, they had already put them in-game, and now all i can hope for is some good old fashioned childhood "everything ends up fine" writing that shows these characters some love and perhaps sways them from their homocidal ways.
back to erissa.
why was chiyo's design racist? well, it wasn't just her. most of the dark riders were handled poorly. to be honest, i've talked SO much on this blog about why chiyo was such a bad design that i simply don't want to rehash it. was it the worst i'd ever seen? no. but putting in those stereotypes to a game children -- WHITE children -- play is like teaching children to hit bees nests for fun. it's pointless and hurtful to everyone.
SO: what do i think of erissa? she's cute! i like this design way better than the last.
that's it. whole idea. i think the colors are more comprehensive, i like the crochet details, i think the hobby horse looks a little silly but i kinda like it. overall, i am happy.
now you're probably wondering, "what, so sso can't make non white villains!?" and the answer to that is 1. don't be stupid and 2. of course they can. but they better put just as much effort into the rest of sso. they don't, though. our only buff woman is alex, who barely counts because she's kinda small as fuck in game. that leaves Sabine, who's more buff. her character is nonwhite, visibly has arm hair, and until proven otherwise, is nonhuman. not only that, she's evil. that sends some pretty strong messages, and, side tangent, but to anyone too goofy or too stubborn to see how that's a problem, i'm excited to see how the children in YOUR family turn out, be it yours or other family member's. will YOU teach them what racism is and why it exists and the complexities of it that people scoff at that allow it to continue to exist day in and day out, or will you let them play all the other games that DONT revise their writing, where the good characters are straight and white and every other type of "normal" and the enemies are gay or nonwhite or both? anyway. i hope you see my point.
"children will experience this stuff ANYWAY!" sure. why add to it?
"oh, so you're pulling a save the children thing? so what, you want everyone to be th3 same?" no. i want them to take chiyo's design, make her clothes look better, make her default state not like a mouse, and put her in the game as sso's like. only japanese character. i'd fucking love that! do you know how little representation there is for weird japanese girls? we dont got dick or shit. it'd be so fun to have a slightly redesigned chiyo as an npc, i'd totally fucking adore that! different clothes bc i think her past design was a little. ourgh. it'd be fun and cool if they made her like, a budding emo? omg that'd resonate with so many people i'm sure, and the purple hair is already suited to it. black hair would also be cool, though. do you see what im saying here, though? context is everything. im sad sabine is a bad guy. im sad every white girl who plays this game gets someone to relate to. i guess i too really relate to and like anne, but that's where the similarities end. it's easy to say "why does race matter?" in a sea of white people if you're white, but it can get lonely playing any video game if you're not white. sso is one of the best games ive found in terms of trying to really add diversity (although im still waiting for updated fat npcs), and that's why i weighed in so heavily. it matters to me. i love this game. i think they've done so much good with it recently, i'm really just beyond impressed and in love.
i think erissa is a good design.

i have been getting kind of interested in the idea of family abolition lately but i dont really know anything about it. i know its something that you’re pretty into so do you have any recommendations of things to read to start learning about it?
MY AGENDA YAAAY. ok ill list out the main couple of works that concern themselves with the abolition of the family - i've not read them through properly yet, but i'll try to include some choice excerpts for each:
friedrich engels - origin of the family, private property and the state, 1884
one of the first analyses of the changes of familial structures throughout society following economic developments, though not without its flaws in its anthropological terms. it details the mechanisms through which private property and thereby inheritance would become a driving force in creating what we recognize as the patriarchy today. less of a direct call for abolition than the next two but still very concerned with understanding and analysing the family as a tool through which capitalism reproduces itself.
"The original meaning of the word “family” (familia) is not that compound of sentimentality and domestic strife which forms the ideal of the present-day philistine; among the Romans it did not at first even refer to the married pair and their children, but only to the slaves. Famulus means domestic slave, and familia is the total number of slaves belonging to one man." (p. 31)
in general i'll always refer to marx or engels as the starting point for analysis of a lot of things, so you can also just take this as a blanket recommendation for their works. marxist feminism in general lays the foundation for family abolition, so i'd also recommend you read up on reproductive labour and other general feminist theory.
sophie lewis - abolish the family: a manifesto for care and liberation, 2022
a very comprehensive introduction to the concept of family abolition, with a lot of references to other authors and works to sink your teeth deeper into. i went to a talk about this book this summer with her as one of the speakers, so although i haven't read it yet, i can say that she presents the topic in a very engaging way. she stresses the intersectional nature of family abolition, discussing race and queerness and how these factors tie into family abolition and the tensions that can arise due to the family's role as a safety net and community.
If the family is a combined-and-uneven form of thriving, denied to some, while being a combined-and-uneven mechanism of violence, concentrating power in the hands of others, it is foolish to imagine that there is an interpellative strategy we could “safely” choose that would also be adequate to the magnitude of the problem that is the family. One option is to specify, when we talk about abolition of the family, that we mean the white, cisheteropatriarchal, nuclear, colonial family. This might feel safer, but might actually pose more dangers in its invitation to excuse or romanticize the political character of all nonwhite, mixed, gay, and/or indigenous homes, while neglecting most people’s family-abolitionist needs and excluding them from family abolitionist politics!
m.e. o'brien - family abolition: capitalism and the communizing of care, 2023
a general run-through of a. the violence enacted through and within the family, and how the idea of the family as a private household serves to reproduce capitalist society, b. the history of the family and its forms throughout capitalist society, and c. speculations on how an anti-capitalist revolution would necessitate a total rethinking and restructuring of how we approach care and the labour that is currently being done within the family rather than through communal efforts or larger systems.
"Family abolition is the horizon of collective love. We place vast hopes and desires in the family: for care, for sex, for consistency over time, for unconditional support, for material aid, for entertainment, for providing stability in daily life. At these, the family is generally a catastrophic failure and often an alienated disappointment. Our available alternatives are rarely any better. These positive human needs can only be fulfilled in the overcoming of the family and all the institutions of capitalist society. It is only through our collective emancipation that we can forge the relationships of love and care that we all yearn for, that we all desperately need." (p. 250)
m.e. o'brien has also co-authored a speculative fiction book together with eman abdelhadi called everything for everyone, which takes place in a near future after a revolution and the establishment of a commune in new york city. from the excerpts i've read it seems like a very interesting take on how communal care could look like in a modern society.
feel free to contact me if you want pdfs of the books mentioned in this post!

maybe im just being uncharitable, but honestly sometimes it feels like people on here are purposely obtuse. rather than listening and learning or looking things up on their own, they put all the onus on indigenous bloggers to explain literally everything
NO you're absolutely right, it's been getting worse I think. Not even just with Natives, but other ethnicities and marginalized groups as well. Anti intellectualism and learned helplessness & obtuseness is on the rise i think. And a lot of people are just lazy.
I think this also has evolved from online (& in this case on tumblr) through the years when nonwhite ppl were talking about our marginalization & we said "lf you care, listen to us", and then that morphed into us also saying "educate yourself", but then White people turned that into "educate me if I fuck up 😔" meaning like, White people also expected someone else to do the labor of teaching them 1. What they did wrong 2. How to be better 3. Hold their hand all the way through 4. Offer further instructions like readings (which White ppl then would promptly ignore), and now if you don't do this, them you're blamed for the failed interaction. Like you're an adult, there's various mediums to unlearn your biases & bigotry, people have just become accustomed to demanding being spoonfed any & every piece of information no matter how minor & how easy it is to Google.
Even just telling someone to google something gets the response of "but google is useless now" like, the general statement of saying "google it" doesn't only mean "specifically use the search engine Google dot com and search up your desired question", it means "the internet is at your fingertips and you have various means to find your answer through it, and you can find it yourself".
Like I know people dont mean to be annoying, but sometimes it gets ridiculous
